Confucius said solemnly: "Qiu believes that the attitude of the Song Kingdom towards ghosts and gods is biased, and it is not their ghosts to sacrifice them, and they are also flattering. The righteousness of serving the people, respecting ghosts and gods and staying away, this can be said to be known. If the sacrifice to the ghosts and gods is too flattering. Even like the current Song Kingdom, all the surrounding gods are included in the temple sacrifice. It is unwise to enshrine the heavens high and the ghosts and gods in the middle, but to put personnel to the end......"

If the people of the world can believe together that ghosts and gods can reward the virtuous and punish the violent, and maintain reverence before doing evil, then how can the world be chaotic? ”

"Therefore, if the ruling ministers and incumbents of the Song State really want to seek the benefits of the Song Kingdom and remove the harm of the Song Kingdom, then they must not doubt the existence of ghosts and gods, and they must respect and commend them, this is the way of the Holy King, can the Master have any objections?"

Confucius, of course, disagreed: "The way of the holy king is to restore human etiquette and morality, not to ghosts and gods...... The way of heaven is respectable, but it cannot be blamed. ”
