377 Military power

With the assistance of the Soviet Union, the economies of various socialist countries in Europe had already begun to enter the stage of recovery.

In Germany, northern Italy and Czechoslovakia, war-damaged factories have been repaired and production has resumed. Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and other socialist countries with poor industrial bases also began to embark on the road of industrialization after receiving machinery and equipment aided by the Soviet Union.

However, compared with the "Marshall Plan" of the United States, the "Manturov Plan" of the Soviet Union did not provide much assistance and the effect of aid.

In addition, the Soviet Union had to assist more countries than the United States, and many of them had a more backward foundation, and the degree of damage suffered during the war was greater, so that the aid resources taken out by the Soviet Union were thinned out by many countries, and in the end, the resources that could reach each country were not too many.

But even so, the Soviet Union received the unwavering support of many socialist countries in Europe through this aid program, which not only helped them develop, but also strengthened the influence of the Soviet Union itself and the strength of the entire socialist camp.

The consumer goods and industrial equipment obtained by the Soviet Union from Germany and Northern Italy have improved the industrialization level of the Soviet Union to a certain extent, and some people in the Soviet Union have also used high-quality products such as Leica cameras and Faber-Gargar stationery, enriching the material life of the Soviet people.

At the same time as resources were being allocated to foreign countries, the Soviet Union's own industrial economy was developing at an astonishing rate. In 1947, the Soviet Union's steel production had already exceeded the 35 million ton mark, and in the first half of 1948 it also reached 20 million tons, and it is expected that the annual steel production will exceed the 40 million ton mark.

For people at that time, steel production was still one of the important indicators of a country's industrialization and economic strength, because the country's industrial production or construction and development needed to use a large amount of steel, the more steel production in the country, the stronger the country's industrial production capacity, the faster the pace of development and construction.

On the contrary, when the country's steel production declines rapidly (such as during the Great Depression in the United States), it means that the country's construction and development will come to a standstill, the demand for various industrial products will fall sharply, and its industrial economy will begin to regress.

Judging from the data, the post-war economic development rate of the Soviet Union is still quite impressive. Although Stalin still adhered to the principle of giving priority to the development of heavy industry, the development of light industry in the Soviet Union was not slow at all, at least during this period of time, the material life of the Soviet people was greatly improved, and the supply of various consumer goods became sufficient.

The speed of the development of heavy industry in the Soviet Union was even more terrifying, and the military-industrial enterprises that produced tens of thousands of tanks during the war (such as the Stalingrad Tractor Plant and the Novosibirsk Plant 179) also produced a large number of tractors, harvesters and other agricultural machinery after the war, many of which were exported to the socialist countries of Eastern Europe as part of the aid program.

In terms of military industry, the Soviet Union did not put it down because of the end of the war, on the contrary, it has been providing a lot of R&D resources to R&D institutions such as the Kharkov 520 Design Bureau, the Yakovlev Design Bureau, the Tupolev Design Bureau, and the Grabin Design Bureau, and sent the best talents in related fields there.

By 1948, the Soviet Union's military industrial level had basically reached the level of leading the world in all aspects, and its T-54 tanks, AK-47 automatic rifles, RPG-2s, and MiG-15 fighters and other equipment had become a symbol of the Soviet Union's military strength.

The weapons of the Soviet Union were not only ahead of Western countries in technology, but also reached the mark of crushing the others in terms of production quantity and production efficiency.

A strong army has become an important force in defending the dictatorship of the proletariat, and the reason why Stalin has vigorously developed the military industry since he came to power is also out of consideration for defending the achievements of the revolution.

Although the Soviet Union has not been able to achieve the world's first-class position in naval power for many years, its air and land forces are strong enough to defend the proletarian power of the Soviet Union and its strong influence in Europe and Asia.

When the Soviet Union led the world in military power, the American Empire, as another superpower, naturally did not do nothing, and they also invested tens of billions of dollars in the development of weapons that could compete with the Soviet Union.

Although the United States was much more powerful in naval power than the Soviet Union and its air force technology was more advanced than that of the Soviet Union, it could not close the huge gap with the Soviet Union in land power.

Moreover, the Soviet Union's progress in army technology is not less than that of the United States, when the Americans began to develop the M26 refurbishment project, the Soviet Union's research and development department has already received a lot of research and development inspiration from Manturov's mouth, found the right direction for future research and development, and began to develop the technology used in the next generation of tanks, such as smoothbore guns, tail stabilized armor-piercing shells and composite armor.

When these technologies are developed, the T-62, T-64, and even T-72 and other tanks that surpass the world level will be able to enter service with the Soviet army in advance! It is expected that these epoch-making tanks will be seen in the 1950s.

In terms of air force technology, although the United States is ahead of the Soviet Union in some aircraft technology, the main force of the US Air Force, the F-86 fighter, is still not the opponent of the Soviet MiG-15 fighter, plus the Soviet Union's MiG-17 was put into service ahead of schedule, and the research and development of MiG-19 related pre-technology is also in full swing, making the United States' goal of surpassing the Soviet Union far away.

However, although the Soviet Union is ahead of the United States in army and air force technology, it is not even as good as Britain, the younger brother of the United States, in naval technology, and the speed of naval shipbuilding is not superior, at least for the time being, the Soviet Union cannot achieve the level of being able to launch a destroyer in a week like the United States.

But even then, after absorbing German and Italian naval technology, the USSR made a leap in its technological level. After the end of the war, the "Project 72" program was launched, and four 30,000-ton aircraft carriers were built, all of which were launched in 1946-1947.

The second aircraft carrier program of the Soviet Union was also launched in 1947, and it was planned to build four light aircraft carriers of 30,000 tons, called "Project 85".

Unlike contemporary aircraft carriers, the "Project 85" is far inferior to the U.S. Midway-class aircraft carriers in terms of tonnage, but at Manturov's suggestion, it adopts an epoch-making design of an oblique flight deck, which effectively improves the efficiency of aircraft take-off and landing. It allows aircraft carriers to carry out simultaneous take-off and landing of aircraft, and allows aircraft that fail to land to accelerate take-off without affecting the stopped or taking off aircraft.

After years of construction and development, the Soviet Union has undoubtedly become the most militarily powerful country on the planet. But even if the Soviet Union had the most powerful army in the world, it would not necessarily be able to defend the proletarian power of the Soviet Union, and it would not necessarily be able to prevent the demise of the Soviet Union, as Manturov knew this very well.

It was precisely because the Soviet Union was so strong that it had no friends that Western countries turned to the means of "peaceful evolution" to destroy the Soviet Union, which was indeed successful in history, and plunged the Soviet Union into disintegration as a superpower.

For Manturov, a time-traveler who had lived in the Soviet Union for many years, the main reason for the success of "peaceful evolution" was not because the Western media claimed that "communism was not viable", but because the Soviet Union had gradually deviated from the path of Marxism-Leninism since Stalin's death and allowed the bureaucracy to control the government.

Historically, when the Soviet Union had completely deviated from the Marxist-Leninist path and communism was no longer the goal of the CPSU, the Soviet bureaucrats in high positions would tear off the skin of socialism, let the Soviet Union collapse, and after the collapse of the Soviet Union, they would become big capitalists commonly known as "oligarchs".

In order to prevent such a situation from happening, it is not enough to rely only on the means of developing the military and engaging in ideological propaganda on a large scale, but it is also necessary to bring down the revisionists and bureaucrats, and as long as there are revisionists and bureaucratic elements in the top echelons of the Soviet Union, the Soviet Union will still have a chance to disintegrate.
