Chapter Six: Fighting the Civil and Military Lines and the World (II)
And as far as Han Gang knows, the scholars who pass the examination are called Gongsheng, and they can also be called Juren. However, unlike the lifting of people in later generations, this is not a lifelong universal qualification, but a one-time qualification. If you want to take the Jinshi exam again after three years, you have to take the exam first and pass, otherwise you will not be qualified to pay tribute and you will not be able to go to Beijing.
Unless the imperial court can change the poem to the scholar of the scriptures and righteousness, Han Gang will have no hope of being a jinshi. Despite this, Han Gang never had any intention of plagiarizing the poems of later generations. Don't deceive people if you don't have a background, you can deceive for a while, but it is impossible to deceive for a lifetime. Poetry and poetry are a general term, not just copying two crooked poems.
Even if you rely on two poems to change your reputation, when someone invites you to the banquet, will you go or not? At this time, the banquet must be composed of poems to help the fun, and a plagiarist can make poems that are appropriate to the occasion at the banquet?
The main social activity of the literati in this era was to participate in poetry meetings. Han Gang has seven or eight experiences in his memory. When composing poems at the poetry meeting, it is necessary to divide the rhyme and limit the rhyme, referring to the object as a poem. The poem should also be in line with the scene, and it should not be chaotic in the vast sky. Han Gang didn't think that he could reach the level of being limited in rhyme, looking at the scenery and utensils, and he could recite a good poem. There are also a few people who are in couplets, rhyming feet, you and I are sentences, and a long poem is performed. Such couplet poems are not only in Han Gang's memory, but also mentioned in ancient novels such as Dream of Red Mansions.
There are only one or two top-grade poems, and the rest of the poems are mediocre, and their performance at the poetry meeting is even difficult to see, and the gap will make people suspicious. If it is originally at the level of more than 80 points, it can be said that it has improved when you get a full score in the exam. But it was only at the level of twenty or thirty points, and if you get a hundred points, who will believe it?!
In the memories left by Han Gang in his previous life, there are many famous anthologies - although the details are discussed, but there are still catalogs - of which poems only account for a small part, in addition, there are tables, chapters, biographies, notes, treatises, as well as fu, form, book and other literary styles, not limited to poetry and other things. If you really want to pretend to be a literary master, you have to dabble in all kinds of literary styles. Can't you just recite two lines of poetry, can't you write a fu, can't write a table, can't write a biography?
You can find an excuse to say that you will no longer write poems, but in the future, there will be no less people who will be asked to write lines, epitaphs, and memoraries, and outsiders can ignore them, and can relatives and friends still push them? How can we deceive the past at this time? In fact, who can be fooled for decades without some real materials?!
The human heart is sinister, and the literati are especially felt. Jiang Yan only regressed slightly in words, and he was ridiculed as Jiang Lang. If the poems are high and low, and only a few good poems appear, is it possible that they will not be called plagiarism?
And being able to do poetry does not mean that you can be an official, important ministers of the past dynasties, and there are very few literary names. Li Bai and Du Fu have been ruined all their lives, so why bother to run up and add their own names. And to be an official, there is not only one way to become a scholar. There have always been not many Jinshi in Shaanxi, but there are not many officials, and it is not necessary to take the Jinshi examination.
In addition to the Jinshi department, the imperial court also set up examinations for subjects such as the Ming and Jing subjects to select talents. Han Gang's level of scripture is good, and the difficulty of the Ming Jing is not high, there is a saying of 'thirty old Ming Jing, fifty young Jinshi' - thirty years old to be admitted to the Ming Jing is already old, and fifty years old to be admitted to the Jinshi is still young. The foundation left by the predecessor is still there, and Han Gang asked himself that as long as he worked hard for a few years, it would definitely be much easier to take a Ming Sutra than a Jinshi.
Even if he didn't want to take the exam, Han Gang still had a way to be recommended and become an official, which was also a source of his confidence. There are frequent wars in the northwest, and the thirst for talent is much higher than in other regions. Han Gang is now practicing archery, also in order to gain fame. As long as the martial arts are literate and literati, and with their own brains and eloquence, it is really not difficult to get a background.
More than 20 years ago, Li Yuanhao raised the banner of rebellion against the Song Dynasty, and the party cavalry crisscrossed the northwest. At that time, the Northern Song Dynasty had not heard of the golden drum for more than 30 years, and no one was available in the court. Fan Zhongyan, Han Qi and other famous ministers came to the northwest from the DPRK one after another to stabilize the situation in Shaanxi. During this period, many Kansai talents were recommended to enter the court as officials. How many soldiers in the army took advantage of the situation and jumped into the sky.
Han Gang's teacher, Zhang Zai, may also be one of them. Zhang Zai had written to Fan Zhongyan at that time, planning to recover the Qingtang Dynasty and Tubo, as a partial division to attack the party members. Later, due to Fan Zhongyan's advice, Zhang Zaicai abandoned Wu Congwen to take the Jinshi examination and began to teach apprentices. But he never forgot to teach his disciples the art of war and tactics, and among the various Confucian schools in the Great Song Dynasty today, Zhang Zai's Guanzhong School [referred to as Guanxue] is the one that attaches the most importance to the art of war.
Zhang Zai lectured in the county school of Jingzhao Mansion three years ago, and two years ago he was the military judge of Weizhou, assisted Cai Ting to pacify Cai Ting through the passage of Huanqing Road, and also taught the apprentices in his spare time. Maybe Mr. Hengqu is not very famous in the Central Plains, but in Kansai he is highly respected, and the Kansai scholars are obedient to him.
Han Gang suddenly laughed at himself, saying that he still had to rely on his own teacher. once worshipped Zhang Zai as a teacher, it was indeed his own luck. No matter what era it is, it is much easier to win fame than others by being born as a famous teacher and having classmates to help each other. Zhang Zai's teacher is his biggest reliance at this time, and it is natural that Han Gang must have a deeper understanding of Zhang Zai's theory. It is for this reason that Han Gang has spent a lot of his energy in the recent period of time on sorting out the notes left by reviewing the lectures he left when he was listening to lectures by Zhang Zai's side.
'Void is air. ''Qi is a thing, scattered into the formless, suitable for my body. Gather into an image, without losing my normality'' too void cannot be without qi, qi cannot not be gathered into all things, and all things cannot not be dispersed into too void'
This contains a view of the nature of heaven and earth, the world is based on qi, and everything in heaven and earth is born from qi. Replacing 'qi' with matter and 'emptiness' with the universe, it can be seen that Zhang Zai's theoretical roots are materialistic.
'The air block is too empty, rising and falling, and it has not stopped. ’
This is another expression of 'movement absoluteness'.
'Gather and scatter my body, and those who know death but do not die can be related to words. ’
Well, this sentence is fundamentally the theory of the immortality of matter - whether it is dead or alive, the body does not disappear with death - so it is called 'death without death'.
In addition to these, Han Gang also saw the theory of quantitative change turning into qualitative change in some fragments of Zhang Zai's notes in his notes, although Zhang Zai called it 'gradual' and 'change'. There is also the rudiments of the dialectic related to the unity of opposites, 'one thing, two bodies...... This day is the place to go. ’
Although Zhang Zai's remarks can be described as contemplation, not as simple and clear as those of later generations, Han Gang will not ignore them lightly. Because Zhang Zai's theory of qi has many similarities with the philosophical theory upheld by Han Gang. As long as we put it in another way, we can even renovate and integrate the natural science theories of later generations, such as atomic theory, element theory, and dialectics. Moreover, these theories, which belong to the category of natural philosophy, have been verified by countless people for thousands of years, and their rigor is much higher than that of qi theory, and they can be verified through experiments—that is, they are in line with the Confucian teaching of learning from things.
It was an interesting idea to package the natural science theories of later generations into qi, and Han Gang felt that there was a good chance of success. Once successful, not only will Zhang Zai's famous words in history not only be a simple four words, but his qi theory will also be passed on to future generations. And Han Gang's long-coveted power and status will also follow.
In his spare time these days, Han Gang set up a schedule and set a time limit for himself, planning to spend half a year compiling this new theory contained in qi science. This is not a long time for the creation of a new theory, it can be said that it is very short, but it is enough for Han Gang. Because his plan is not to create an academic to replace Qi science, but to use the theory he already understands to make up for the lack of Qi science. At the same time, there is room for improvement in the future.
Half a step ahead of the times is a genius, and one step ahead is a madman. Han Gang did not challenge the arrogance of the whole society, he was not Don Quixote. His goal is to be able to protect himself and his family's power, nothing more, and not greedy. Only by this will he not be shaken by anything.
A self-justifying system cannot be achieved overnight if it is done slowly and step by step. At the same time, it is also an opportunity to gradually increase your fame. At the same time, the gradual increase in fame can bring you the power you want. The elevation of power can in turn promote the spread of doctrine. Academics and positions of power, the two are mutually reinforcing. Without the assistance of power, it takes decades or hundreds of years for a doctrine to spread.
Han Gang didn't know much about history, but he also knew the place of Taoism in history. Cheng Hao and Cheng Yi, who are the ancestors of science, are their teacher's cousins - last year, they saw Cheng Yi at home, which was a boring middle-aged man packaged in a serious and rigid manner, and his critical and harsh eyes made every student tremble, lest any rude loss of face would be lost to the teacher - but even when it came to Zhu Xi in the Southern Song Dynasty, science could not dominate, and was even banned for political reasons.
I only hated myself for reading Zhu Xi's biography when I was idle on the train, and I didn't go deep into the details, and I skipped over when I saw the chapter on science, but paid a lot of attention to Zhu Xi's gossip about accepting nuns and picking up daughters-in-law. This is called the fact that it is difficult to buy money and know that Han Gang is now regretting not being at the beginning.
Calm down, Han Gang buried his head in the case and studied carefully. When he has some results, whether it is an exchange of letters or a direct meeting, as long as the new theory can arouse Zhang Zai's interest. His fame in Guan Sergeant Lin also laid the first step.
PS: Zhang Zai was respected by Zhu Xi as one of the five sons of science, and his cousins Cheng Hao and Cheng Yi, as well as Zhou Dunyi, the teacher of the second Cheng, and his friend Shao Yong. However, the qi system founded by Zhang Zai is close to materialism, and completely deviates from the more idealistic science. This is the dispute between the various schools of thought in the Northern Song Dynasty, not only to cut down the roots of the hostile schools, but also to transfer flowers and trees to seize them.
In the Northern Song Dynasty, academic battles were no different from wars.
