5. Busy town
Compared with the traditional assembly, this citizens' assembly is more extensive and has a larger crowd. It doesn't matter if you have Roman citizenship or not, as long as you are willing to fight for this place, then you are considered a citizen, whether you are an adult man, or just grown up, as long as you can take up arms.
Whether you are a man or a woman, if you are willing to defend your homeland and fight against the invading enemy, then you are considered a citizen, and the most valuable thing is that you can participate in this convention even if you are only a foreigner.
Juventus and Ye Feng, as well as others, all clearly understand. Who you are, the color of your skin, or where you come from is never the most important thing, what matters is whether you are willing to protect the land, and if you do, then you are the owner of the land.
If the answer is no, then it's time for you to leave. Whether you have citizenship rights or not, this convention means nothing to you.
This is a challenge to tradition, and it is not something that no one has objected to. But everyone is soberly aware that both the rich and the poor. Now the biggest threat is the Germanic people, these invaders don't care if you have Roman citizenship or not, they don't care if you support Rome or not, they come here for only one purpose, to invade, to take everything, to conquer everything,
Whether you are a Roman, or a foreigner, it may be clear to you that it is clear and distinct, but for the Germanic people, you have only one identity, the conquered, the object of their enslavement.
Even the most stubborn and traditional Romans would not have raised any objections to this citizens' assembly, even if they could not accept it in their hearts, but it was undoubtedly correct. A few people alone could not withstand the vast sea of Germanic peoples, and they had to unite everyone, anyone who could take up arms, anyone who would be willing to fight.
Jon was not a traditional Roman, and although he had obtained citizenship, he had Germanic blood in his bones, but he had absolutely no sympathy or identification with the Germanic people in his heart. The reason why he came to Rome was that he was willing to endure Roman exploitation, that he was willing to look at the faces of those fat tax collectors, that he was willing to pay hard labor, but that he wanted to live a quiet life.
Jon was by no means a coward, he was braver than most fanatical Germans, and he understood Germanic qualities better than the Romans.
Jon was sitting in front of his blacksmith shop, molten iron boiling in front of him. He had a scar on his face, from his left ear to his chin, it wasn't new, it looked like it was decades old. The scars and the new flesh are completely tangled, like the roots of an old tree in the Germanic forest. He had a scruffy beard, black beard mixed with white hair, and wrinkles crept up his forehead.
But his occasional sharp gaze makes people understand that he is not a weak old man. The hardships of life made his face look older than he looked, and at just 40 years old, he looked like an old man in his fifties and sixties. But his strong arms are like unshakable iron pillars. It is coiled in front of the chest with bulging muscles. It makes people full of confidence in his force, and even two heavily armed professional soldiers can't shake him at all.
The sky was darkening, and the golden sun was losing its brilliance. The sunset has appeared, and the strange orange-red sky, like a bloody mouth, devours the creatures on the ground. Jon rested for a while, then continued to pick up the heavy hammer, hammering the iron ore that was about to take shape and hammer after hammer, his muscles tensed, and the hot sweat continued to flow, and his whole body felt like he had taken a bath.
He muttered, "Those big people have finally opened their minds, and I thought they wouldn't want anyone else to help them?"
Jon's son took his father's words and said, "Finally I can let them see how good I am, haha, if we come earlier, the northerners won't even be able to keep their hometown, just those few guards in the town, I can beat them down with my bare hands, and the northerners are no exception."
Jon's son looked extraordinarily excited, his handsome face was covered with wet blonde hair, he had the sunshine and confidence of a young man, and some conceit. Contrary to the old and serious Jon, this face is full of smiles and youthful energy. His spirit is just like his body, full of life, and his strong body gives him great confidence.
Qiao An frowned dissatisfiedly and scolded angrily, "Have you ever been on the battlefield? Have you ever killed someone? Okay, hit your iron, I didn't allow you to join the army, you just let me stay at home honestly, the battlefield is not where a child like you should come. β
But Jon's own eyes flashed with excitement, he went to report his name a few days ago, but his son didn't know that Jon's son despised his cowardly father, but his father had always been an authority, and he didn't dare to talk back.
He was suddenly beaten by his brother to the ground, and his originally high fighting spirit became sluggish, like a defeated rooster. Like traditional parents. Old people with a lot of experience are always dismissive of young people, or a kind of distrust. For young people who don't have any experience, old people will think that he is too naΓ―ve. More blow than encouragement, Jon would rather his son not take risks and achieve things than push his son into the fire pit.
Adults and young people are different, Jon doesn't want his son to take risks, he thinks that young people come first, wealth, glory, status, this is second. Because they are still young and have more opportunities, they don't have to take risks. But his son doesn't think so, glory above all else! He wants others to know about him, and when people see him, they don't say, "Hey! This is the blacksmith's son! Jon's son! Instead of calling out his name. β
Undoubtedly, Jon loved his son and didn't want him to do anything dangerous. However, wishes and reality are often opposites, he does not want his son to take risks, and even in difficult words, constantly undermines his confidence. This made him obliged to do it.
And in another family, a Roman family, his parents were persuading her son, and his parents were persuading: "This city needs you, the northerners are coming, the citizens' assembly has decided, we will fight the northerners here." Everybody agreed, everybody went, you shouldn't stay at home. β
And his father's words hurt even more: "You are a disgrace, coward!" β
In fact, his son didn't care about this, since everyone agreed, he didn't have an opinion, but his parents' forced attitude annoyed him.
Her son said angrily, "No, I'm leaving here, the war has nothing to do with me." You've got to think about me
, I don't want to die, I'm not even married, I don't even have a girlfriend, I haven't had time to confess yet, you guys are so selfish! β
The mayor of the town was in a mess, there was originally only one recruiting point, because there were too many people coming, so he had to add two more, but it was still not enough. An old man who looked thin leaned over and said, "Quick! Write my name, I'm from the village of Fuxili, those Germanic people, the regiment has tasted my iron fist! β
Mayor Grimace shook his head and explained, "No! You're too old! You can't even carry a weapon! This is not for you. β
But the old man was still entangled, and looked at the mayor with his cloudy eyes, and said, "I used to be a legionnaire, and my son, and so did he, but he went to fight in the Easterners, what a bastard!" That's where he is needed! And when I was younger, I could hit ten at a time! I'm the same now! Do you not believe it? β
The old man was a little anxious, he gestured with his fists, arched himself, made a fighting gesture, and said fiercely:
"If you don't believe me, I'll knock you over with one punch! Come! Come on, I'm telling the truth! Come on, you bastard! β
The mayor waved his hand, he didn't want to have the reputation of beating the old man, and said to the clerk next to him: "Okay, write down his name and arrange him into the logistics team." β
Then he said to the old man solemnly:
"War is not child's play, once you join, you have no chance to quit!"
At this time, the old man was not so pitiful and pleaded. He said angrily, "How interesting! Kid, are you telling a legionnaire that war isn't child's play? I forgot to tell you, I've been to this kind of child's play many times, and I'm not a rookie! β
After finishing speaking, he went out on his toes, as if he was not an old man who had been wronged and asked a moment ago, but a leader who came down to inspect.
