Chapter 43: "Youkai"
"Yo, a child!" a shrill voice suddenly rang out, breaking the silence in the Stygian Forest and interrupting Matthew's memory, startling him.
He followed the voice, and it seemed to come from deeper in the forest. But it was so dark that Matthew squinted his eyes and couldn't see clearly. He cautiously leaned over, raised his torch, and tentatively shouted, "Ada?
"Huh?" the voice expressed surprise, "how do you know me, child?"
As he spoke, a short figure stepped out of the depths of the woods with small steps. The visitor was wearing a black hooded robe, the hood was turned up to cover his entire head, and Matthew couldn't see his face clearly, only feeling that the other party's height was not much taller than his own.
"Are you the youkai Ada?" said Mar practiced an imperial social ritual.
"What a good boy who knows how to be polite, hehehe," the black-robed man took a few steps closer to Matthew, "It seems that you came all the way to find me?"
"Yes, Mr. Youkai. Matthew replied, "Oh no, Mr. Ida. β
Ida flipped her hood back, revealing her head.
Matthew was stunned, where was this "monster"? He had never seen such a delicate and beautiful face! Matthew only felt that he had read too little, and did not have enough words to describe the beauty of this face. Ada's skin was fair, and she naturally glowed with a hazy white light, like the moon in the night. The facial features on the melon seed face are exquisite, the cherry mouth is red and gorgeous, and a pair of crooked eyes are looking at Matthew with a smile.
This appearance is incompatible with this strange and gloomy forest. It should only be seen at aristocratic balls, to be sought after by everyone, to be presented with gorgeous poetry and the affection of countless noble gentlemen, and not in such a gloomy and cramped dark forest.
"What do you think you should call me?"
"Ada...... Miss...... "The child stared blankly at Ada.
Ida snorted, "So, at your young age, what is the important thing for you to come to this Styx Forest alone to find me?"
"Yes!" Matthew immediately came back to his senses, his eyes lit up, "I want to ask you to teach me summoning!"
"Oh, this is a ...... that requires spiritual power" Before she finished speaking, Ada saw that there were already two clay monsters standing beside Matthew, and they could vaguely distinguish between men and women, but their appearance was extremely ugly, strange and vicious.
The male clay figurines have broad shoulders and knotted muscles on their thick arms, and the texture is clearly visible. Female clay figurines are of medium height, with round faces and slightly chubby. The faces of the two clay figures are blurred, which is compounded by the richness of body detail.
"I want to resurrect my father and mother!" exclaimed Matthew, "you see, it's just a little bit there!"
Ida frowned, looked at the two ugly and strange clay figures with disgust, and sneered, "Where is this almost bad? If this is just a little bit of a short, then your parents are too ugly, right?"
"You are not allowed to insult my parents!" the young master suddenly became angry, and the two clay figures stepped on the left and the right, and rushed towards Ida at the same time.
The girl's face did not change at all, she tilted her head, and seemed to be unmoved, still standing there quietly.
Just as the clay figurines were approaching Ada, Matthew was surprised to see that his two clay figurines were photographed into mud cakes almost simultaneously. It was so fast, only for a moment, that he seemed to see a black shadow fall from the sky, right on the heads of the two clay figures.
"In this world, there is actually no summoning art. Ida sneered, "Because I don't use my psychic power to manifest anything else, I can only manifest this one one at a time, so people think I'm a summoner for granting." In fact, it is still the embodiment of spiritual power, but it is a little special. β
As she spoke, Matthew's eyes widened, and she felt that the skin all over her body had stirred up countless small bumps. His eyes were drawn to Ada's stunning beauty just now, and only then did he see a huge monster in the shadows behind her. The monster was a behemoth to him or an adult, two or three stories tall.
The monster is not made of pale blue psychics, it is all as if it is engulfed in shadowsβor it may be a shadow of nothingness itself, in short, pitch black. A large scarlet eye opened slightly in the shadows, staring at Matthew steadily. Compared to its body, its arms were thin and long, and its huge claws hung ethereal at its ankles, looming in the shadows. It should have been the claws that clenched their fists just now, smashing Matthew's clay figurine in an instant.
The most terrifying thing was the big mouth on the monster's abdomen, grinning a little from time to time, revealing two rows of white teeth. But when it closes tightly, it merges with the darkness of the entire torso.
Matthew was shocked and admired, and fell to his knees with a thud: "Please, teach me the summoning technique!"
Ida pulled her face down: "I told you that this is not a summoning technique, don't you understand me?"
"Yes, no matter what it's called, as long as I learn, will I be able to resurrect my parents?"
Ida didn't answer, but asked, "How did you learn to be spiritual?"
"The teacher taught. β
"Teacher?" Ida asked, "Which teacher?" "It's a strange thing that there are psychic teachers in this world.
"Mr. Regin. Matthew replied proudly.
"Regin......" Adamer said the name, a hint of strangeness flashing in his eyes, "Regin?
"I don't know, we just call him Mr. Rekin. β
β...... So he taught you these tricks......" Ida seemed to sigh in the darkness, "didn't he tell you that the manifestation of psionic powers is only our own spiritual world, not some resurrection?"
Matthew didn't speak, his eyes were vacant, as if he refused to listen.
Ida thought for a moment and asked, "Why do you call those two clay figures Mom and Dad?"
This time Matthew reacted, and he said with some dissatisfaction: "Because they are Mom and Dad! They died very early, and I don't remember what they looked like, so I couldn't get it right." Later, I taught myself to study the human skeleton, as well as the position of muscles and organs, so that my parents have what they are now. Am I very talented?"
Ada's eyes were sharp, and she asked, "Where did you learn the location of bones, muscles, and organs?"
Matthew looked at the girl in front of him strangely: "Where did you ...... from?" he thought for a moment and stretched out his hand to Ada, "Of course it's from a person." Ah, when I first learned about bones, I learned from corpses in the cemetery. Grandpa scolded me for a while!"
Ida was silent for a long time before asking, "Do you know why I'm called 'Youkai' Ada?"
Matthew shook his head, nodded again, and pointed at the huge monster behind Ada: "Is it because of it?"
"Well, almost. Ida said, "As I said just now, your so-called summoning technique is actually embodiment. It's just that my psychic power isn't about embodying something or creature, or anything that comes up with it, butβ" Ada deliberately paused slightly, looked at the child in front of her, and then smiled slightly, "Embody your own soul." β
"Soul ......? So, this is ......?"
"That's right, that's what my soul looks like. That's why people call me 'Yokai'. β
Ada laughed proudly as she took a few more steps towards Matthew, and the youkai behind her silently followed.
"Can you imagine? My soul is a monster like this! It's a masterpiece!" Ida looked intoxicated and lonely.
Matthew saw it more realistically.
It was a living youkai, not a spirit or illusion manifested by some kind of psychic power, nor was it achieved by changing the shape of matter like his own clay figurine. The monster didn't just have one head, but one on each side and behind it, but it was hiding in the shadows before, and Matthew couldn't see clearly. Behind its back, there are two other slender arms hanging from its sides.
"You're not the first to ask me to learn summoning. Everyone who wants to learn from me, I will directly show him my 'results'. If he hadn't been scared away, I'd tell him the truth β I never hid it. Ida smiled charmingly, "It's just that I don't care if I want to learn it later." After all, to be honest with your soul, I'm afraid ......"
What Ida was about to say was interrupted because Matthew didn't look right at this point. His jaw trembled, his eyes glowed with strange excitement, and his psychic power flowed around him in confusion. He muttered, "Mom and Dad, Mom and Dad, you are about to be resurrected! My soul, my soul must have you like you!hahaha......
β...... It turned out to be a lunatic maniac who ran out of psychics......" Ada shrugged as she watched Matthew's uncontrolled psychic flow, "Waste my time." With that, she put her hood back on, ignored Matthew, and disappeared into the shadows with her youkai.
After a long time, Matthew suddenly came back to his senses and found that Ida was gone. He shouted Ada's name, but no one responded to him, whether it was "Yokai Ada", "Mr. Yokai", or "Miss Ida". He seemed to be the only one in the forest. Finally, he finally got tired and retreated.
"It's okay," he reassured himself, "anyway, I already know the secret of Miss Ada's summoning technique, and I'll practice it myself, I'm sure I can." β
He smiled again and said to the two recreated clay figures around him, "Don't worry, Mom and Dad, I can do it!" β
