Yang Xiu was very knowledgeable and intelligent, and was once reused by Cao Cao and appointed as his chief secretary, but later because of his participation in the battle for succession, Cao Cao was dissatisfied, and was eventually killed by Cao Cao.

【Yang Xiu's Talent】

In history, Yang Xiu is still very talented, and there are several small stories about this, among which later generations are famous in addition to "chicken ribs", "broad word puzzles", "word puzzles" and "word puzzles".

The "broad word puzzle" says that after Yang Xiu took the post of chief secretary of Cao Cao, Emperor Wu of Wei, he was building the gate of Xiangguo's Mansion at that time, and Cao Cao personally came to inspect the rafters of the house just after the rafters were built. After reading it, I asked someone to write a "live" word on the door and left. When Yang Xiu saw it, he immediately asked someone to tear down the door. After it was completed, he said: "Add the word 'live' to the door, which is the word 'wide'." King Wei is just too big. ”

The "word puzzle" is about someone giving Cao Cao, Emperor Wu of Wei, a cup of cheese, Cao Cao ate a little, and wrote the word "he" on the lid of the cup for everyone to see, and no one could understand what it meant. It was passed to Yang Xiu in order, and Yang Xiu took a bite and said, "Gong Cao taught us to eat one bite each, what else is there to hesitate about?" ”

"Charade" says that Cao Cao, the king of Wei Wu, once passed under the monument of Cao E, and Yang Xiu followed him. I saw that on the back of the stele was written the words "Yellow Silk Young Woman, Grandson Yan Mortar". Cao Cao asked Yang Xiu, "Do you know what it means?" Yang Xiu replied, "Yes." Cao Cao said, "Don't say it yet, let me think about it." After walking thirty miles, Cao Cao said, "I have already figured it out." He asked Yang Xiu to write down his understanding separately. Yang Xiu wrote: "Yellow silk is colored silk, and the colored silk is synthesized into a 'absolute' character; the young woman is the meaning of a girl, and the girl is synthesized into a 'wonderful' character; the grandson is the daughter's son, and the woman is synthesized into a 'good' character; and the mortar is a hard work." Painstakingly synthesized into a 'word' (辤): this is the 'wonderful word'. Cao Cao also wrote down his understanding, and the result was the same as Yang Xiu's, so he sighed and said: "My talent can't catch up with you, and I thought about it for thirty miles." ”

Among them, the record of "charade" is obviously wrong, because Cao E's monument is in Huiji, and Cao Cao has never been able to go down to the south of the Yangtze River at all.

In history, Yang Xiu was finally killed, and his father Yang Biao also had a certain relationship, the Yang family, as a famous family, and Cao Cao, who was born as a eunuch, could not talk about all the way.

Earlier, Yang Biao accompanied the emperor to set the capital of Xu County. At that time, a big banquet was held by hundreds of officials, and Cao Cao, who was the assassin of Yanzhou at the time, saw Yang Biao's displeasure and left the banquet in fear. Soon after, Yang Biao was deposed.

Later, Yuan Shu claimed the title of arrogance in Huainan, so Cao Cao framed Yang Biao and Yuan Shu as relatives (Yuan Shu's daughter married Yang Biao, and Yang Xiu was also Yuan Shu's nephew), and wanted to collude with Yuan Shu to depose the emperor and put him in prison. When Kong Rong, the master craftsman, heard that he didn't even have time to put on the court clothes, he hurriedly met Cao Cao to defend Yang Biao, and Cao Cao still strongly argued: "This is what Your Majesty meant." Kong Rong replied: "If King Cheng is allowed to kill Duke Shao, can Duke Zhou say that he doesn't know?" For example, the reason why the corporal admires you is because you are wise and benevolent, assisted the Han Dynasty, recommended upright people, and repelled evil people, so that the Quartet was harmonious. Now that you want to kill innocent people, no one will be able to treat you with dignity at home! I, Kong Rong, am still a man in Lu Guoyi, and I will leave tomorrow and will not come to the court again. ”

After Yang Biao was imprisoned, he was tortured by Xu County's order to be tortured, but to no avail, and finally Man Biao also said to Cao Cao: "Torture Yang Biao did not find any evidence of guilt." If he is to be executed, evidence must be found before it can be executed. This man is well-known in the sea, and if he is executed without finding evidence, it will be a great disappointment, so please think clearly. Cao Cao had no choice but to release Yang Biao.

Although Cao Cao did not kill Yang Biao under the obstruction of Xun Yu, Kong Rong, Man Chong and others, it did not mean that he could not kill his son in the future.

【Yang Xiu's Death】

In the early days, Yang Xiu was actually very much used by Cao Cao, but Cao Pi and Cao Zhi had to compete to win over Yang Xiu first, and later Yang Xiu chose to help Cao Zhi, but he was too liberal and gradually lost Cao Cao's trust, Cao Zhi failed in the battle for the son, and Cao Cao decided to get rid of Yang Xiu.

According to the "Dictionary", at that time, "I always knew the outside and the inside, and everything was satisfactory." Since the prince of Wei has been down, and he is fighting for friendship", and finally Yang Xiu decided to help Cao Zhi, who was better at writing.

But although Yang Xiu is talented, he is too arrogant, and Cao Cao was already dissatisfied with the "chicken rib thing" during the battle of Hanzhong, and then Yang Xiu did not repent, and similar things happened several times.

Of course, Cao Cao's final decision to get rid of Yang Xiu was also directly related to the battle for succession. At that time, the competition between Cao Zhi and Cao Pi was fierce, Cao Pi in order to discuss countermeasures, many times hid Wu Zhen in the old bamboo box, and picked it up by car, but was reported by Yang Xiu, Cao Pi knew about it, and informed Wu Qian, Wu Zhen did not come next time, and Yang Xiu failed to monitor people, which made Cao Cao suspicious.

Yang Xiu also privately speculated about Cao Cao's intentions, and drafted more than a dozen replies for Cao Zhi in advance, which was finally known to Cao Cao, and Cao Cao was even more jealous of Yang Xiu.

According to the record of "Shiyu", there is another thing behind, so that Cao Cao can't bear it, when Cao Cao sent Cao Pi, the prince of Wei, and Cao Zhi each out of Yecheng, but secretly ordered the gatekeeper not to let go, in order to observe their behavior, Cao Pi returned fruitlessly, Yang Xiu knew but told Cao Zhi smartly: "If the door does not go out of the Hou, the Hou is ordered by the king, and the defender can be killed", Cao Zhi obeyed, and Cao Cao learned that Yang Xiu was killed by the intersection.

According to the "Dictionary", before Yang Xiu died, he said to the deceased: "I think it will be too late for me to die." It shows that Yang Xiu himself also knew that his death was related to Cao Zhi.

Participating in the dispute between the son-in-law itself is easy to get angry, and Yang Xiu has gone too far, many things have violated Cao Cao's taboos, Cao Cao did not hold Ding Yi's brothers responsible, but simply executed Yang Xiu is already very revealing.

Yang Xiu himself was born by Cao Cao's jealousy, but he was still arrogant, did not know how to restrain, and wantonly participated in the battle of the son, and committed Cao Cao's taboo several times, and was finally killed by Cao Cao.

【Afterlife】

Yang Xiu wrote a lot in his life, and the two manuscripts that were collected into the book have been lost, and he wrote 15 articles, including Fu, Ode, Stele, Praise, Poem, Lamentation, Table, Record, and Shufan. There are several works that coexist today, including "Answer to Linzi Waiting Notes", "Festival Tour Fu", "Goddess Fu", "Peacock Fu" and so on.

After Yang Xiu's death, Cao Cao asked again when he saw his father, Yang Biao, "Why are you so thin?" Yang Biao replied: "I'm ashamed that I don't have the foresight of Jin Riyan, and when I get old, I still have the feelings of an old cow licking a calf." Cao Cao's face changed directly after hearing this.

Note: Jin Riyan's son was liked by Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty and was called Lang'er. Later, he grew up, and one day, Jin Riyan met Lang'er playing with the palace maid in the palace, and he was afraid that he would affect himself in the future, so he killed Lang'er.
