Chapter 056: Prince of Eastern Wu
After Sun Quan was crowned king, the initial establishment of the state of Wu, with his eldest son Sun Deng as the crown prince, Sun Deng was very Mingjun style, recognized by everyone, but unfortunately died early. After Sun Deng's death, Sun Quan succeeded the crown prince with his third son, and only named his fourth son and grandson Ba as the king of Lu.
【Sun Deng's death】
In history, Sun Deng is Sun Quan's eldest son, his background is similar to Cao Ang, and his biological mother's status is relatively low, and he was later raised by Sun Quan's wife, Mrs. Xu, and became Sun Quan's heir, and is the actual eldest son, and Sun Deng is also recognized as an excellent prince in history.
In the first year of Huanglong (229), Sun Quan ascended the throne and called the emperor, and set up Sun Deng as the crown prince, with Zhuge Ke as his left assistant, Zhang Xiu as his right Bi, Gu Tan as his assistant, and Chen Biao as his winged commander, which is the so-called four friends. And Xie Jing, Fan Shen, Diao Xuan, Yang Zhen, etc. are all guests, so the East Palace is known as full of talents. Sun Quan moved the capital to Jianye, and recruited the general Lu Xun to assist Sun Deng to guard Wuchang and manage the remaining affairs of the palace.
In the fourth year of Huangwu (225), Sun Quan married the daughter of Zhou Yu as the crown princess for Sun Denghuan, and ordered Cheng Bing to welcome Concubine Zhou from Wu County to Wuchang and teach Sun Deng. and selected Rui Xuan's daughter to be hired as Shuyuan.
Historically, Sun Deng was an orthodox person, caring for the people, delicate, and able to focus on big things.
As a member of the Sun family, Sun Deng also loved hunting, and there were originally shortcuts to small roads, but he often went around the fertile fields, did not trample on the crops, and when it was time to rest, he chose a free place. Even if it took a little more time, he didn't want to bother the people. He had been out on horseback and a projectile flew by, and the guards around him went looking for the person who shot the projectile. There was a man with a slingshot in his hand, and everyone thought that it was this person who shot the projectile, but he denied it, and the attendants wanted to beat him, but Sun Deng did not allow it, and sent someone to find the projectile that flew past him, and compared with the one that this person carried, the two were not the same, so he let the man go. Another time he lost the Shengshui Golden Horse Bowl, and found out that the thief was done by his own subordinates, Sun Deng couldn't bear to punish him heavily, so he only asked him to come and reproach him, send him home forever, and ordered the people around him not to show off.
Later, his second brother Sun Wei died, Sun Quan issued an edict to reduce the diet of hundreds of officials, Sun Deng thought that this move was inappropriate, so he traveled day and night, rushed to Laixiang, personally reported, Sun Quan immediately summoned him. Sun Deng saw Sun Quan crying in grief, so he persuaded: "Sun Jian can't afford to be sick, this is fate." Now that the north is not unified, and the four seas are looking up to hope, God has appointed Your Majesty, but Your Majesty has reduced the diet of the courtiers according to the ideas of the lower people in society, which exceeds the requirements of the etiquette system, and I am privately worried and uneasy. Sun Quan heeded his advice and increased his diet for this purpose.
Sun Deng lived for more than ten days, Sun Quan planned to return him to Wuchang in the west, Sun Deng interceded deeply for himself, thinking that the long parting made him unable to serve his parents, and Yu was a son's moral defect, and stated that Lu Xun was loyal and diligent, and Wuchang had no worries, so Sun Quan kept him to live.
Sun Deng's adoptive mother, Lady Xu, was later deposed because of jealousy, and Sun Quan sent her back to Wu County. At that time, Mrs. Bu was favored, and she also wooed Sun Deng, and the Bu family was rewarded, although Sun Deng did not dare to refuse, but he just worshipped. And the Xu family sent someone to give Sun Deng's clothes, but Sun Deng must have bathed before putting them on.
When Sun Deng was about to be canonized as the crown prince, he excused himself and said: "Only when the foundation is established can morality be generated, and if you want to establish a prince, you should first establish a queen." Sun Quan said, "Where is your mother?" Sun Deng replied, "In Wu County." Sun Quan was silent.
In May of the fourth year of Chiwu (241), Sun Deng died at the age of Chinese New Year's Eve. Sun Deng was originally buried in Jurong, set up a garden to be guarded according to law, and was reburied in Jiangling three years later.
Before Sun Deng died, he recommended his third brother Sun He to take over the position of crown prince, and recommended many outstanding courtiers including Lu Xun, Zhuge Jin, Bu Qi, Zhu Ran, Quan Cong, Zhu Ju, Lu Dai, Wu Cang, Kan Ze, Yan Ji, Zhang Cheng, Sun Yi and many other outstanding courtiers, hoping that Sun Quan could be more close to them to appoint them to make Wu prosperous. The last words before his death were very sincere, and Sun Quan was even more sad when he saw it, and he couldn't help but cry when he talked about it. Sun Deng was the crown prince of Xuan.
According to the record of "Jiankang Record", Sun Quan was surprised and sad when he learned it, and his grief could not be suppressed, saying: "The country has lost the wise prince, what blessing can the people have!" ”
【Canonization of Sun He】
In the early days, Sun Deng, as the eldest son, was extremely good, and other heirs could not be compared, so Sun Quan did not have the problem of successors, but after Sun Deng's death, although Sun Quan took the third son Sun He as the crown prince, he also named Sun Ba as the king of Lu, and he also admired it very much, and as a result, a situation of two palaces standing side by side, and the ministers of Wu also stood in line.
After Sun Quan's second son Sun Quan and the eldest son Sun Deng died one after another, the third son Sun He became the actual eldest son, and Sun Deng also recommended him to take over the crown prince before his death, so Sun Quan canonized Sun He as the crown prince in the fifth year of Chiwu (242) in the second year after Sun Deng's death, when Sun He was nineteen years old. Kan Ze is the Taifu, Xue Zong is the young master, and Cai Ying, Zhang Chun, Feng Li, Yan Wei, etc. are his attendants.
According to the "Book of Wu", Sun Deng's third brother Sun He was favored by Sun Quan when he was young. Sun Deng was close to Sun He, worshiped him like a brother, and often showed the idea of giving way to Sun He.
After Sun He became the crown prince, his performance was not bad. At that time, judicial officials mostly used regulations and laws to ask for crimes, and Sun He believed that treacherous and arrogant people would use lawsuits to mix personal feelings, so as to produce the idea of doing evil, and this trend should not be promoted, and the above table said that it should be stopped. There was also a governor Liu Bao who sued the middle concubine Ding Yan, and Ding Yan also sued Liu Bao, Sun He said to Ding Yan: "How many civil and military officials can be in charge?" If they turn their faces and attack each other because of contradictions, they all try to harm each other, how can this be lucky? So Sun He persuaded and mediated the two sides, so that they could interact with each other and treat each other well.
Sun He often said that the talented and learned people of the world should explore and study and learn knowledge, practice and practice martial arts, so as to be competent in the affairs of the world, and only know how to play chess to hinder their careers, which is not an enterprising attitude. When Wei Yao, the son of the middle concubine, returned home, he wrote a paper on the matter, and Sun He showed the article to the guests to circulate to persuade those who liked to play chess and might even make mistakes.
However, in the same year that Sun He became the crown prince, the hundred officials asked for the canonization of the queen and the four kings, but Sun Quan only took the fourth son and grandson as the king of Lu, and Sun Ba was favored and treated favorably, no different from the crown prince Sun He, and the two also lived in the same palace. Sun Quan's approach made everyone have a lot of ideas, and soon Sun He regarded Sun Ba as a threat, and Sun Ba also began to peep into the position of the prince, so the two were at odds.
Soon, the news of the discord between Sun He and Sun Ba reached Sun Quan's ears, but Sun Quan only forbade them to interact with the outside world, so that they could concentrate on their studies, and later ordered the two to live in separate palaces, and their subordinates were also differentiated.
It can be said that with Sun Quan's intentional connivance, the battle for the second palace began.
