Chapter 197: Aftermath
Although Webster did not approve of Leegot's killing of prisoners, he did not have much to say when it came to Lian Shang's brothers. At the most important thing to do, forget about it, that's the wisest thing to do.
Parks had no intention of pursuing the POWs either. He himself only turned a blind eye to this behavior of Li Gaote, and even had a kind of acquiescence in it. Otherwise, he would not have let Li Gaote escort the prisoners, because he knew that Li Gaote had the intention of killing the prisoners. And this idea may have been even stronger and bolder after the killing of the prisoners.
But there are no impermeable walls. Although Parks did not talk about it at the company headquarters or even with Lee Gotte personally, Captain Winters knew about it. His first reaction was the same as Miller's, that it was unbelievable and unforgivable. For this reason, he deliberately asked Parks to go to the small one-room room of the battalion headquarters' own office to give himself an explanation.
"It's not a small thing!" Captain Winters was uncomfortable as he waited for Parks, and he complained to Nickerson in one rare way, "This is not something we should have done." I'll have to talk to Lacey. β
Nickson shook his head and smiled bitterly: "I know you're in a hurry, you rarely do this." β
Winters smiled bitterly: "I don't want to do this either, but this kind of behavior is definitely not worth encouraging, you know, we know, maybe Colonel Sink already knows, I have to warn him, he is causing trouble for himself!" β
"I'm sure Lacey will handle it himself. Dick, I think it's because you can't let go of the brothers of E-Company! Nickerson smiled at him, "You now have your own separate cubicle at the battalion headquarters, and you are no longer the company commander who fights with your brothers." You have your own job, and so does Parkes. β
"Well, I'll admit, I'm a little worried a little too much!" Winters raised his hand and pressed down, "But there's nothing wrong with me doing this, Nick, I just want to help them!" β
"I believe in you!" Nickerson said as he pulled out a small wine bottle from his waist, feeling a little light, then shook it and laughed, "Looks like I'm looking for my own wine again!" β
Winters couldn't help but stand up, then walked to the corner of the room, lifted the lid of a wooden box, shrugged his shoulders at Nexon, walked over, took a bottle of wine from the wooden box, and poured it into the bottle, muttering, "I don't know why I can't change it?" β
Winters sat down again and looked at the door, Parks hadn't come yet, and he sneered casually, "Do you mean drinking?" β
"No, it's hiding the wine in your crate!" Nickerson said, taking a sip of his wine, "I'm already a captain!" β
"Then why don't you justβ" Winters dragged his voice, "Change!" β
Nickson looked at him in surprise, then smiled, "Quit drinking? β
Winters glanced at him and said solemnly, "No, the habit of hiding wine in my cupboard!" You're already a captain! β
Nickson smiled, then nodded, "Maybe you're right." This is probably the best place for me to quit drinking! This is now the forefront of the Allied offensive. β
Winters shook his head and smiled, then looked at the door again. He heard footsteps, presumably Parks had arrived, and he stood up, straightened his uniform, and then squinted his eyes to see Nickerson looking at him with some amusement.
"How?" Winters looked at him suspiciously, "Maybe there's something strange about me?" Horns on your head? β
Nickerson smiled, "It feels like you're very formal, do you want Lacey to salute you when he comes in?" Or do you salute him first? Please, Dick, why don't you think of this as a conversation between friends? β
Winters was stunned for a moment, then nodded thoughtfully, "Maybe you're right." β
At this moment the door opened, and it was not Parks who entered, but a thin private, who appeared at the door with a cup of coffee, and then skillfully closed the door, placed the cup of coffee in front of Winters, and busied himself with sorting out some of the papers on Winters' desk that were a little messy.
"Who is he?" Nickerson gave Winters a strange look.
"Chilinsky! Sir! Without waiting for Winters to speak, the soldier nodded to Nickerson, "It's Lieutenant Winters' orderly." β
"Wow!" Nickerson whistled, then smiled at Winters, "After you were promoted to deputy battalion commander?" β
Winters smiled and nodded: "You definitely won't believe that the deputy battalion commander will have a different treatment from the staff officer, which I will never experience before, I think, I have to slowly get used to having someone help me tidy up the table and other things." β
"Orderly? It's the prerogative of being in office, Dick. Chilinsky, I think you're going to do things like pour coffee. Nickerson smiled at him, "Black coffee, no sugar!" β
"Yes, sir!"
Chilinsky was about to go out, when suddenly they were pushed away again, and Lieutenant Parks came in, and he gave Chilinsky a strange look, and was a little puzzled.
"It's an orderly, Lacey!" Nickerson chuckled, "Maybe you can ask him to give you a bacon sandwich." β
"Very good offer!" Parks immediately understood that this was a scene that had been seen before, except that the subject had Halig replaced himself, "Bacon Sandwich." Watching Chilinsky leave, he shouted from behind.
"Now, sit down and talk, Lacey!" Winters gestured to a chair in front of him, next to which sat Nickerson. He smiled at Parks.
"Are you okay now, brothers?" Winters coughed dryly, then found a topic. He didn't want his conversation to be so abrupt that he could relax.
"Oh, Dick, you've only been back from E-Company for a few days, and look at their crazy performance that night, and you know how good the brothers are. Honestly, their state is very reassuring! Nickerson smiled.
Parks nodded and smiled, "Nick is right. The brothers are in a good mood now, of course, those who stay in the trenches right now may be a little low, but on the whole, it is still good. They seem to be exhausted! β
"Very good!" Winters nodded, then hesitated for a moment and said, "The battle that night was very good, although Commander Zinke was a little unhappy that day, but he mentioned it to General Taylor later, which is a good thing." β
"I know he's going to get you across. It's nothing more than telling me not to do risky things. Dick, I've heard you say it, I know what to do, don't worry! Parks nodded at Winters.
Winters was clearly righted by Parks. Nickerson looked at him and shook his head, it was clear that Winters hadn't cut to the chase yet, which made Nickerson a little amused.
"Dick, do you have to play this linguistic trick with Lacey? I suggest you still have something to say! Nickerson said.
"What?" Parks looked at Nickerson and then at Winters, "I know something must be something." Say, Dick, even if there's something wrong with what I'm doing, I want to be honest with each other. God, I don't want you to be like those bureaucrats. Talking can make people choke to death! β
Winters coughed dryly, nodded and said, "Well, in that case, I'll tell you the truth, in the battle that night, you captured twelve German prisoners, but these twelve prisoners were found on the other way back to you, and they were dead." Apparently they were shot. β
Parks was stunned for a moment, and then realized that someone must have said something. He shrugged his shoulders and nodded, "Yes, I already knew this." β
"What are you going to say to Colonel Zink?" Winters' expression was a little serious. This made Parks a little unaccustomed. Yes, he was not used to Winters treating himself with such a serious expression. After all, since the Tacoya Barracks, Winters has always had a very harmonious relationship with him, and he has never said anything to himself like this.
"Well, Dick, there's nothing wrong with Lacey. Don't make the same expression as Colonel Zink! Seeing that the atmosphere was a little wrong, Nickerson hurriedly came out of the round.
Winters may also realize that he was a little too serious, and couldn't help but smile apologetically, "I'm sorry, Lacey, you know, I was a little too concerned about this. β
Parks nodded and said, "I know, you still can't let go of the brothers of E-Company in your heart." Dick, it's not a big deal. We've done that, and the Germans have gone even further than we did. We cannot punish a soldier for fighting bravely, he will demoralize his brothers. β
Winters nodded, motioning for Parks to continue.
"This matter was done by Li Gaote, but I did not pursue it, and I have no intention of pursuing it." "In that case, I can assure you that this will never happen in the future!" β
Winters looked at Parks, nodded slowly, and said, "I believe in you!" Lacey, I'm sorry to call you over. I know how you're feeling, butβ"
Parks suddenly smiled at Winters, "Don't worry about that, I won't care about it." β
At this time, Nickerson whistled and laughed: "Okay, there should be an explanation for the matter." But Lacey, you'd better be able to write a report that gives Zink a reasonable excuse to explain! β
Then the door was pushed open again. Chilinski walked in, holding a plate of Nickerson's coffee and Parkes' bacon sandwich.
"Just in time!" Nickerson remembered the coffee and took a sip of it.
Parks also served the bacon sandwich and said, "A reasonable excuse? β
He took a bite of the bacon sandwich, chewed it in his mouth for a while, swallowed it, and said with a smile: "This is not difficult for me, what I lack the most is a reasonable excuse for all kinds of events!" β
