Confucius put forward the requirements of being a gentleman from different perspectives, which can be summarized in three points: first, we must always pay attention to abstaining from personal desires; the second is to have a sense of awe in dealing with things and prevent unscrupulousness; The third is to deal with it conscientiously and be strict with oneself at any time.

Fourth, a gentleman should emphasize righteousness and avoid profit, and pursue morality. Confucius believed that the difference between a gentleman and a villain also lies in having different attitudes towards life and different pursuits in life. He believes that "a gentleman understands the great righteousness, and the villain only knows small profits", "a gentleman only seeks the Tao, not food and clothing", "the gentleman only worries about the Tao and does not worry about poverty", "The gentleman misses morality, and the villain misses the countryside; The gentleman thinks about the legal system, and the villain thinks about favors." That is to say, as a gentleman, only by attaching importance to morality and pursuing morality can we distinguish ourselves from villains and truly embody the spirit of a gentleman.
