Zhang Zhi saw that the momentum was not good and wanted to leave. But there were soldiers all around, and there was no way out. After a while, the chief bookkeeper came in again and asked Sun Jian for instructions: "Nanyang is too guarded to stop the volunteers, so that the thieves will ask from time to time, please accept the case and engage in military law." As he spoke, he ordered his subordinates to push Zhang Shi out of the military gate and behead him. The officials of Nanyang County Government were shocked, and from then on, Sun Jian's troops could have whatever they wanted.

After Wang Rui's death, Dong Zhuo appointed Liu Biao as the successor of Jingzhou Assassin, and then all over the country raised troops to fight against Dong, Liu Biao did not join the coalition army, but he also showed Yuan Shu as the Taishou of Nanyang, and showed favor to him, and the two were not offended.
