Chapter 44: The Temple of Literature Essay (2)
[The second update, ask for red tickets, collect. ] 】
was left for dinner again, and Zhang Jian and Cheng Hao's enthusiasm made Han Gang feel very warm in his heart. The ability to pass the test this time also relied on their advice and teaching, and he was not indifferent because Han Gang was recommended by Wang Shao.
After a few days, Han Gang was almost cared for by Zhang and Cheng like his nephews. Zhang Jian and Cheng Hao even introduced Han Gang to their family members - this was a sign of extreme closeness in ancient times. The children of both are only about ten years old, but the excellent education of the poetry and book heirloom has made the learning of several children no worse than that of ordinary villagers, and the etiquette is even better.
At the dinner table, Zhang Jian and Cheng Hao no longer mentioned the topic of one hectare and forty-seven acres, they said it, they said it, they agreed and agreed, and it was not their character to be entangled in this matter, but to the questions of Han Gang's current exam, as well as Liu Yi and Cheng Yu, the two Ling Cheng who made a bad deal during the exam.
After listening to Han Gang's retelling of this exam question, Zhang Jian and Cheng Hao frowned at the same time. "It's not that difficult, is it?" Zhang Jian asked strangely.
"If you really want to be embarrassed by Yukun, you won't come up with such a simple question." Cheng Hao also had an idea with Zhang Jian.
"But when the students listened to Chen Juquan's words, they were alluding to the fact that Liu and Cheng were indeed thinking about making things difficult for the students." Han Gang didn't think he would read and hear wrong, this was his strength.
Zhang Jian thought back to what Han Gang had just said, glanced at Cheng Hao again, shook his head and said, "It's too simple." ”
Han Gang also felt puzzled, but he thought about it instead, the two people in front of him were both well-educated people, and Cheng Hao was even more at the level of a grandmaster, so it was not surprising that he couldn't grasp the difficulty of the Jingyi exam questions, which was the same as the normal junior high school math questions for doctoral students in the Department of Mathematics to evaluate the difficulty. But thinking about it this way, Han Gang suddenly found that his level of scripture and righteousness seemed to have become good, didn't he also realize that he was being troubled? I thought that Liu Yi and Cheng Yu deliberately made the topic simple.
Zhang Jian and Cheng Hao were still discussing, and somehow, they began to doubt the difficulty of the Ming Jingke exam from the fact that the difficulty of the exam was too low. However, Zhang Jian was born as a Jinshi, and Cheng Hao was also born as a Jinshi, even though their level of scripture is much higher than that of poetry, but they still got the Jinshi exam, and they don't know much about the exam questions of the Ming Scripture.
Zhang Jian said: "In a few days, look for the Ming Jing exam questions in the last few subjects and see what the questions are." ”
"I should look for it." Cheng Hao agreed: "If the exam questions are too simple, the imperial court's talent selection ceremony will lose its role in selecting talents." ”
"It's best to find the Nine Classics, if it's the Five Classics and the Three Classics, these subjects will be too easy."
"If the nine classics are not successful, let alone the following subjects."
The Ming Jing Department is different from the Jinshi Department, and according to the scope of the scriptures used in the examination, it is subdivided into several subjects such as the Five Classics and the Three Transmissions. The three passes refer to the three passes of the Spring and Autumn Period - "Zuo's", "Ram", and "Gu Liang", and the exam questions will not go beyond the scope of the three books. The Five Classics refer to the five Confucian classics of "Zhou Yi", "Shangshu", "Book of Songs", "Book of Rites", and "Spring and Autumn", and the scope of the examination is naturally among them. In addition, the Kaiyuan ceremony, the three rites, and the three histories are also the same. Among these subjects, the examination scope of the Nine Classics is the widest, including the classics to be tested in all the above subjects, and the difficulty is naturally the highest.
Listening to their conversation, looking at the two division commanders who were getting more and more excited the more they talked, Han Gang began to worry about the Ming Jing Gongsheng students of the next subject. There are two Confucian imperial historians staring at them, and they are both qualified to become examiners to preside over the Ming Jing Imperial Examination, and the examination that Ming Jing Gongsheng will face is afraid that it will be unprecedentedly difficult. If he heard the news that the Ming Jing was more difficult than the Jinshi in the future, and the candidates who failed the list ran to knock on the list and shout grievances, Han Gang would not feel strange at all.
"That's right! Yukun, "Zhang Jian came back to his senses from the discussion of the Ming Jing Science Examination questions one step earlier than Cheng Hao, after all, this is not a study room to discuss things. Thinking that there were still guests there, he asked Han Gang as if he was remedy, "The last case to be decided, you just said that it was the Ayun case, right?" ”
Han Gang nodded: "Exactly." ”
"Dengzhou's?" Zhang Jian asked again.
"It's from Dengzhou, indeed."
Hearing Han Gang say this, Zhang Jian and Cheng Hao's faces changed a little, and they asked together, "Yukun, how did you judge?" Is it exile? Or hanging? ”
Han Gang didn't know what Zhang and Cheng thought about Ayun's case, but he didn't think it would be the same way as Wang Anshi - maybe the gentle Cheng Hao was a little difficult to say, but with Zhang Jian's temperament and his maintenance of Gangchang, he must have supported Dali Temple's judgment and sentenced Ayun to hanging.
When Han Gang discussed the Ayun case with Wang Shao and Wang Hou, he expounded his views from the perspective of judicial procedures - Ayun and Wei Gao were hired during the mourning period, and the relationship between the unmarried couple was illegal, so it should not be used as a premise to be sentenced to prison.
But in front of the Confucian disciples Cheng Hao and Zhang Zai, he is not good at saying this, because this remark is close to Legalism, but it is better to show his Confucian level. At the same time, he had read the newspaper about the Ayun case earlier, and this matter was tantamount to cheating, and Han Gang didn't want to admit it. As soon as his mind changed, he ignored the provisions of the law and only led to the general righteousness of Confucianism:
"The words of the saints are all based on benevolence. Ah Yun did not harm anyone's life, and the crime did not lead to death, so the student was sentenced to exile. ”
"Benevolence-oriented?"
Han Gang explained: "Benevolence is the heart, etiquette is the outline of the law, and moderation is the way of doing things." The words benevolence, courtesy, and neutrality are a little experience of students' recent reading. ”
"Benevolence, courtesy, and neutrality?" Zhang Jian read softly, Han Gang's point of view is not surprising, but there are not many statements that put forward the three words in Renli alone.
"The sage said that the heart is benevolence, and a "Analects" involves the word benevolence in several hundred places. As for the matter of etiquette, the master said more. Benevolence and propriety are the foundation of the famous religion, and they are also the two words of the saint in Zinianzi. ”
"What about 'in'?"
"'Those who are in the middle are also the great capital of the world'. It is the way to act, and it is the golden mean. ”
Although Han Gang said it very concisely, and even a little biased, the idea of moderation has always been valued by Cheng Hao, Han Gang can see this, and put it forward emphatically, Cheng Hao is a little relieved to hear it, and can't help but nod and smile, not in vain for his teachings these days.
Han Gang's foundation Cheng Hao saw very clearly that Zhang Zai's disciple was very intelligent, good at dealing with people, and had a long talent in governing affairs, but he was not as good as him in learning, and he only swallowed the scriptures and meanings, and did not study them in depth. Without a great way to keep his heart, Cheng Hao was worried that Han Gang's talent would be used in crooked places, so he did not avoid suspicion and carefully taught, hoping that Han Gang would not go astray in the future.
Han Gang's assertion is not rigorous, and it is too simple, how can the way of a saint be summed up in three words? But Han Gang's ability to think, feel, and develop in his studies is a rare and valuable thing in Cheng Hao's view. Although Han Gang's heart is difficult to inherit the mantle of Zhang Zai or himself, if he can uphold the three actions of 'benevolence and courtesy', he can already be a gentleman.
Han Gang saw Cheng Hao nodding and smiling, and his heart was also happy. This means that his simple and direct summary of Confucian theories has been recognized by the Confucian masters.
The so-called 'I Note the Six Classics' explains the classics in a cumbersome way, and a 'if you say Ji Gu', you can pull out hundreds of thousands of words of commentary, which is the habit of Han Confucianism and Tang Confucianism. It was the practice of Song Confucianism to abandon these trivial commentaries and directly use the original texts of the Confucian classics to prove their views, focusing on 'I' rather than 'Jing', that is, 'Six Classics Commenting on Me'.
At this time, it was not uncommon to re-annotate the Confucian classics, including the Analects. Mr. Taishan Sun Fu advocated giving up the biography and seeking scriptures, writing "Spring and Autumn Zun Wang Fawei", abandoning "Zuo's" and other Spring and Autumn three biography; Mr. Anding Hu Ming, the author of "The Analects of the Analects", Mr. Shi Jie, has "Easy Solution", and Mr. Liu Chang has "The Seven Classics" and "Spring and Autumn Balance". Zhang Zai of Qi and Ercheng of Science, they are all like this, they all have their own views on the Confucian classics that are different from the commentaries of the Han and Tang Dynasties.
Han Gang is the same, although he can now understand the general idea of the main commentaries of the Nine Classics, and he will not leave ten. However, he annotated these classic texts word by word, which were thousands of times more cumbersome than the scriptures, but he did not have much high evaluation.
Han Gang has always believed that in order to spread ideas, the simpler the theory, the better. Therefore, he summarized Confucianism into three simple words—benevolence, propriety, and neutrality—and straightforwardly abandoned the commentary on the scriptures. Only looking at the general situation, not having time for details, and justifying himself with these eight words, Han Gang thinks that he will not show timidity when standing in front of Confucianism.
"In Gang's humble opinion, the behavior of Confucianism is nothing more than keeping benevolence, respecting the law, and adhering to the middle way. Benevolence is the basis of etiquette, based on the case of Ayun, if Wei Gao is killed, Ayun should be beheaded, if Wei Gao is seriously injured, he should also be hanged, but Wei Gao is only slightly injured, for a little injury to his life, but it violates the way of mercy and forgiveness. The disciple contemplated the sin of Ah Yun, and the rod was too light, and the killing was too heavy. Murder pays for life, and wounding serves a sentence, so the student was sentenced to 3,000 li. ”
Benevolence is the basis of etiquette, if according to Han Gang's idea, the so-called cannibalistic etiquette in later generations is only etiquette and no benevolence, and has entered the evil way, which is not the real Confucianism. For example, 'the king wants his ministers to die, the ministers have to die, the father wants the son to die, and the son has to die', such a statement that violates benevolence is the most shameless distortion of Confucianism.
What is the root of Confucianism? It's benevolence. Etiquette is only a rule, an external rule. The cannibalistic rites of later generations only cared about maintaining the etiquette and law, which completely deviated from the original intention of Confucianism, so it could not be regarded as Confucianism at all, but an outright cult. No amount of titles given to Confucius can change this fact.
Cheng Hao agrees with Han Gang's benevolent verdict that not killing anyone is more important than anything else. And Zhang Jian was dissatisfied, "Lu Gui is dissatisfied, although Wei Gao has not seen killing, but Ah Yun does have murderous intentions." Although Wei Gao was slightly injured, Ayun's charge of attempted murder could not be forgiven. ”
"That's what the gentleman said!" Han Gang bowed his head to be taught, and did not argue with Zhang Jian. Zhang Jian was stunned for a moment, then shook his head and smiled. If it is only an attempted murder and the sufferer is slightly injured, the murderer will only be mismatched. Ah Yun was sentenced to be hanged by Dali Temple because of her relationship with Wei Gao. Han Gang didn't mention this at all, and he didn't recognize the fiancée relationship between Ah Yun and Wei Gao during the mourning period.
However, Zhang Jian didn't want to fight anymore, he was still eating, and it was pointless to argue about a case that had already been decided.
