Chapter Ninety-Three: The Monk's Diary (II)
The achievements of the patriarch are extremely huge, the Song envoy said that I am serving the diligent Buddhism as profound as the patriarch, so I was recommended to go to the ancestral court of the major sects of the Great Song Dynasty to debate and exchange, the travel expenses and all the expenses are borne by the Song envoy, if the results are huge, you can also get to go to Nalanda Temple and other Tianzhu ancient temples to seek the original scriptures. If this great deed, which can be compared with Master Xuanzang of the Tang Dynasty, is realized, it will be a merit of realizing my great wish. In the future, my followers and disciples will also think that my achievements can surpass those of my ancestors.
Song envoy said very thoroughly, it is easy to know Sanskrit, just go to Tianzhu to learn for a few years, the patriarch's "Sanskrit Sitan Character Interpretation", I can compile a "Sanskrit Bilingual Dictionary" to surpass; "The Truth and Meaning of Sound and Words" became the first philosophical work on language and philosophy in this book, and I could also write an easy-to-understand textbook to spread the language and writing of the Great Song Dynasty; "The Ten Dwelling Minds" is an epoch-making work in the history of Buddhism, and I casually annotate a Buddhist scripture or translate dozens of canons, isn't it as merit as one? Poetry, calligraphy, teaching, and architectural skills are all acquired abilities that can be practiced, and they are not very meritorious. As long as I can achieve the great merit of preaching the scriptures, everything will be floating clouds. What the Song envoy said is the ultimate goal that I have taught many bhikshus to pursue, and the income from years of practice is not as good as the income from a conversation with the Song envoy, this great opportunity is seized, the Buddha blesses, my Shingon Sect can be carried forward in my hands, and become the first sect of the Truth, even if I am tired to death, I am willing.
On the eighth day of the fourth month of the fourth year of Kuanzhi, he and the Song envoy met with the emperor, and the Song envoy proposed that the emperor ascend to the throne of the French emperor. This made the emperor in the prime of life very tempted, and the emperor, who was not yet forty years old, knew the truth that centralization of power depends on force, and in order to further strengthen the prestige of Shirakawain, the proposal of the emperor to advance to the emperor was very attractive. If Emperor Shirakawain agrees, he will be the fourth emperor to abdicate after Emperor Utain, Emperor Suzakuin, and Emperor Hanayamain. The samurai of the north will also receive a large amount of high-level assistance from the Song envoys.
In exchange, the Song envoys would receive a large number of trade preferences and privileges, such as Bai Jia and Chen Guanxian, who were the directors of the Great Song City's shipping department, and others proposed to open up many ports for trade between the two sides.
The specific contents are that all the cities of the Great Song Dynasty are open to the city, the two sides have signed preferential tariff agreements, and the ten largest ports in the Song Dynasty have been opened to China as trade ports; the two sides formally establish diplomatic relations and permanent envoys; It was publicly recognized as a vassal state of the Great Song Empire, and assumed and enjoyed feudal rights and obligations second only to the Xia State; As long as the emperor of Baiheyuan is a minister, after advancing to the emperor, he can receive a reward of 500,000 copper coins from the Great Song Dynasty every year and exchange the upper limit of 5,000 quintals of pure copper in exchange for other major Song copper coins; As long as the emperor agrees to ascend to the throne, he can also open the ban on all cultural texts, and all books on religion, art, and other fields, as well as the techniques of agriculture, handicrafts, mining, and construction, can be imported into the scriptures; It was agreed to sell Sado Island, Ezo Island, Izu Islands, Sanan Islands, and Tsushima Islands as a return gift for the Song envoy's generous gift of a large number of treasures and immortal methods, and at the same time gave the Song envoy 5,000 taels of gold and 40,000 taels of silver.
I actually heard the Song envoy suggest that the Emperor Shirakawain should set aside all the Shimogamo Palace Town at the confluence of the Kamo River and the Takano River, and use it as the headquarters of the Song Dynasty's subordinate industries in the business premises of the Song envoys, and all the taxes paid every year should be paid in a tax package manner, once every five years. Once this kind of tax system spread, all the lords would hand over many of the industries and even tax power of the fiefdom to more professional and efficient merchants and craftsmen, and only collecting money and spending by themselves would certainly greatly increase the income of the treasury and the various lords.
The Song envoy also explained to the emperor the advantages of the professional division of labor and the advantages of openly bidding for management rights in the territories directly under the direct jurisdiction of the imperial family, and in order to meet the annual tax package payment, the contracted businessmen would certainly invest a large amount to expand production and foundation, and properly manage the land that was returned to the public by seven or eight cents of the harvest. When the time comes, there will be a certain tax for five years, and it will definitely be found that the tax is higher. In order to prevent the contractor from maliciously looting and making up for the personal deficit and selfish desire of the tax revenue, the people of the territory are not living and the population is decreasing. Contracts are concluded with penalty clauses for the occurrence of various adverse consequences.
Subsequently, the Song envoy and the emperor, who had concluded the talks, went directly to the Shimogamo God Society to meet with the representatives of the lords and wealthy clans around Lake Biwa, and this meeting became a big pearl auction that everyone talked about in the future. After the Song envoy met with the lords and representatives of the wealthy clan, he showed a secret book of the techniques of artificial bead farming. It was also announced that the highest bidder would receive the technology, which allowed for a large number of cultured pearls. The sale will be made by Emperor Shirakawa as a witness, guaranteeing the legal surname of his patent. It is also promised that all income will be used as collateral security, and if the buyer does not succeed in achieving the agreed breeding results within three years, the auction proceeds will be returned unconditionally and a fine of three times the auction price will be compensated. The starting price is 500 taels of gold, and the price increase shall not be less than 100 taels each time.
All the delegates here were crazy and had not heard that pearls could be cultivated in captivity. If it could, production would increase dramatically, and prices would fall by at least half. If they had monopolized the mass production of such high-quality pearls, it would only take more than ten years to become the wealthiest family in the world. This kind of God-given opportunity is simply the fulfillment of the old saying, God will take the blame, if you don't try your best to fight for it, you will regret it for life.
Omi Province is the richest area in Komoto, because Lake Biwa has developed water conservancy and irrigation agriculture, and many of the surrounding lords and wealthy families have huge family assets.
The Emperor of Shirakawain only showed his face in front of them, and said that he would severely punish all kinds of treacherous behavior, and went to the backyard of the shrine to admire the poems, ink treasures and other items presented by the Song envoy to the shrine.
However, the accompanying Song envoys handed over the auction to their subordinates, and they all left the shrine and went to the Fujiwara Shishi Mansion of the Fujiwara Kita family to hold a lantern meeting. The Song envoy benefited from his transcendent identity, wandering between the emperor and Guan Bai and other nobles, and resolved the grievances between the ministers and the emperor and queen in the spring breeze and rain-like amusement. The struggle for power was not something that I, a person outside Vanity Fair, should be concerned about, but it was an irreconcilable contradiction for the emperor to take sole control of power, learn from the imperial system of his predecessors, and set aside the imperial court that was actually controlled by the Fujiwara Kita family. The Song envoys gave a large amount of money to the emperor, and constantly strengthened the emperor's financial, strength and even military strength, almost a fanfare declaration of full support for the emperor's centralized behavior. It is not known whether this was done in support of the already shaky ministers and the imperial court's control of the local areas, or to crack down on the conservative ministers and nobles who hindered the trade of China.
Whether it was the victory of the Emperor and the submission of many local wealthy clans throughout the Zoben, or the Fujiwara clan continued to maintain the long-standing regency situation with the help of the Great Song Empire, no matter who was victorious in the high-level struggle, the samurai group and the power of the Great Song Dynasty would eventually enter the imperial court, and the snipe and clam competing for the profit of the fishermen would always apply to the struggle of high-level politics.
I don't care who wins in the end, as long as the influence of Buddhism doesn't decline. It would be even better if my Shingon Sect could take advantage of this muddy water to grow and develop into the number one sect in this world.
