Chapter 019: "Emperor" or "King"
Sun Quan claimed that the emperor posthumously called Sun Ce the king of Changsha Huan, and built a temple for Sun Ce in the south of Jianye Zhuque Bridge, and his son and grandson Shao were named the Marquis of Shangyu. Sun Ce and Sun Quan's father, Sun Jian, was posthumously named Emperor Wulie.
But for Sun Wu, Sun Ce is the founder in the true sense.
【Father and Son Comparison】
Although it is now often said that the Sun family ran Jiangdong for three generations, in fact, Sun Jian rarely stayed in Yangzhou after becoming famous, and almost all of the Sun family's work in Yangzhou was laid down by Sun Ce.
Sun Jian did manage the place, but also as a state and county level boss, after the Yellow Turban Rebellion, he was appointed as Changsha Taishou, in Jingzhou swept down the rebellion of Ou Xing and others, when anti-Dong Sun Jian was also elected by Yuan Shu as the assassin of Yuzhou, in the first line and Dong Zhuo confrontation, but on the one hand, Sun Jian actually did not manage the territory, at that time he was mainly as a military general, mainly military, Changsha Taishou during his service to the imperial court, when he crusaded against Dong Zhuo, he was attached to Yuan Shu, can be said to be not an independent prince, In other words, during the Sun Jian period, the Sun family had not yet formed a complete force of its own.
On the other hand, Sun Jian only served as a petty official such as a county official in Yangzhou, he was not in Yangzhou after he became the state and county Taishou and the state assassin, and he himself was basically not in Yangzhou in the later period, it can be said that Sun Jian ran Jingzhou, or Yuzhou, but it is very reluctant to say that Sun Jian ran Yangzhou.
In contrast, Sun Ce really broke away from Yuan Shu and became a prince, and laid down Wu County, Huiji, Danyang, Lujiang and Yuzhang, and controlled five of the six counties of the original Yangzhou, it can be said that the foundation of the Sun family in Yangzhou was laid by Sun Ce, it is undeniable that Sun Jian's remaining old department helped Sun Ce a lot, but after all, Sun Jian has been dead for a long time, and Sun Ce is the man who was in charge at that time. It was Sun Ce who reunited his father Sun Jian's old department, it was Sun Ce who left the foundation of Jiangdong, and it was Sun Ce who became the lord of Jiangdong.
In these respects, Sun Ce is more qualified than Sun Jian to be posthumously called "emperor" (Note 1). Sun Jian only left a foundation for the Sun family, and it was Sun Ce who laid the foundation.
It is very unfair that Sun Ce, as the actual founder of the Soochow Group, has not been posthumously called "emperor".
[Jurisprudence and Practice]
Because the righteousness of the imperial court still existed at that time, Sun Quan's ascension to the throne still had to go through the procedures of the Xuchang court, and Sun Quan did not inherit Sun Ce's title and only received military talismans.
But this is obviously very ridiculous. First of all, the power of the imperial court at that time was only in name only, de jure, in fact, Jiangdong was no longer under the control of the Xuchang court at that time, Sun Quan controlled Jiangdong because Cao Cao sent Sun Quan to go, no, it was because Sun Ce entrusted Jiangdong to Sun Quan, Jiangdong Group recognized Sun Ce's will rather than the appointment of the imperial court, at that time, if Sun Ce let Sun Yi lead the military power, then the Huiji Taishou would be Sun Yi's, Xuchang was just forced to go through the procedure due to the situation, Cao Cao did not designate Sun Quan to replace Sun Ce, he just pushed the boat along the river.
Besides, if Sun Quan is not Sun Ce's heir, even if he becomes a general and a Huiji Taishou, it is useless, so he can only control the land of Huiji County at most, including Wu County, Yuzhang, Lujiang, Danyang, and Luling Counties, and the officials of the counties will not have any obligations and reasons to listen to Sun Quan's dispatch. And why did they obey Sun Quan in the end, isn't it because Sun Quan is Sun Ce's heir, this is the innate righteousness of Sun Quan's ability to finally control Jiangdong.
Therefore, in history, Sun Quan is undoubtedly the successor of Sun Ce.
So why was Sun Quan only willing to give Sun Ce the title of king after he became the emperor, but not the emperor?
【Reason for the king】
Sun Quan's decision to crown Sun Ce as king was not only out of selfish considerations, but also his inevitable choice as a mature politician.
In ancient Chinese history, the pursuit of the emperor and the pursuit of the king are two completely different concepts. Emperor is the title of the supreme ruler of ancient China, if Sun Ce is posthumously named emperor, then it not only recognizes Sun Ce's establishment of the foundation of Eastern Wu, but also shows that Sun Ce's descendants also have the right to inherit the great cause of Eastern Wu, the first point is that Sun Quan must be recognized as the successor, but the second point is that Sun Quan cannot tolerate.
Although Sun Ce is Sun Quan's own brother, it is impossible for Sun Quan to be given to Sun Ce's descendants in this world.
In this, Sun Quan has his own selfish considerations out of human nature, but then again, after Sun Quan inherited Sun Ce's great cause, he further expanded Jiangdong's power and territory, and stood with Wei and Shu, and finally became the emperor, these are all things that Sun Ce did not do early death, Sun Quan's position as emperor itself was won by himself, Sun Ce left Sun Quan Jiangdong foundation, but Sun Ce was only a marquis at that time, not even a duke, and the emperor was still far away, Sun Quan's throne was never inherited from Sun Ce, Therefore, it is understandable and natural that Sun Quan is ready to leave the throne to his descendants.
On the other hand, due to political considerations, the situation in the world at that time was full of three kingdoms, far from stability, if Sun Quan gave Sun Ce the title of emperor, then Sun Ce's son must be given higher power and title, which may make them have illusions, and even create civil strife to seize power, and may also be used by external forces, so Sun Quan only gave Sun Ce the title of king, and he was indeed a little sorry for his brother, but this is also for the stability of Eastern Wu, which is due to righteousness.
Sun Quan, as a mature and steady politician, is completely understandable in doing so.
【The Death of Sun Ce's Descendants】
However, some things are always unexpected.
Sun Ce did not have much time to think about his descendants when he handed over Jiangdong to Sun Quan, and Sun Quan said that the emperor only posthumously called Sun Ce the king of Changsha Huan out of various considerations, and did not give Sun Ce's descendants a chance to regain Jiangdong.
Sun Ce's descendants do seem to be more honest and have no changes, but in this world, they can be shot while lying down.
Sun Ce's son was named Sun Shao, and in the first year of Huanglong (229), Sun Quan was proclaimed emperor, and Sun Shao was named Marquis of Wu, and then changed his title to Marquis of Shangyu. After his death, his descendants will inherit the title.
After Sun Hao inherited the great cause of Eastern Wu, he was mediocre and tyrannical, and was disgusted by the people of Eastern Wu, so it was rumored everywhere that Sun Hao was dead, saying that one of Sun Feng or Zhang Anhou Sun Fen would become the emperor, and Sun Hao knew that he killed Sun Feng.
After Sun Feng, there is no record of Sun Ce's descendants.
Note 1: This is not to question whether Sun Jian is qualified to be posthumously named emperor, but to emphasize that Sun Ce's contribution to Eastern Wu was greater, and it was normal to posthumously praise his father and grandfather as emperors in ancient times.
