Chapter 053: The Glory of Yuan Shu (I)
【The first half of Yuan Shu's life】
Yuan Shu, the word highway, a native of Ruyang, Runan, the son of Sikong Yuan Feng, the younger brother of Yuan Shao, is the eldest son. When he was young, he was known for his chivalrous spirit, and he often played with his son's buddies in the field, but later changed a lot. After he was recommended as filial piety, he was transferred many times to become the general of Henan Yin and Huben Zhonglang.
In the sixth year of Zhongping (189), Yuan Shu supported He Jin together with his uncle Yuan Kui and his brother Yuan Shao in the confrontation between He Jin and the eunuch group. After He Jin was killed by Zhang Rang and others, Yuan Shu and He Jin's general Wu Kuang joined forces to attack the palace gate, and Zhonghuangmen guarded the pavilion with weapons. At dusk, Yuan Shu set fire to the Nine Dragon Gate of Nangong and the East and West Palace, wanting to threaten Zhang Rang and others to come out, causing Zhang Rang and other eunuchs to coerce the Son of Heaven to run away.
Later, Dong Zhuo led his troops into Beijing to control the imperial court, stole power, and planned to depose the young emperor Liu Wei according to his own wishes, and set up Liu Xie, the king of Chen Liu, as the emperor, and let Yuan Shu serve as the general. Yuan Shu did not want to follow Dong Zhuo and cause trouble to himself, so he fled from Kyoto to Nanyang.
At the beginning of the first year of Chuping (190), Dongjun Taishou Qiaomao falsely transmitted a letter from the three princes of the capital, and sent a letter to the princes of each town, inviting the princes to crusade against Dong Zhuo, Yuan Shu immediately responded, and finally elected his brother Yuan Shao as the leader of the Kwantung coalition against Dong.
【Yuan Shu's First Glory】
After Sun Jian, the Taishou of Changsha, killed Zhang Zhi, the Taishou of Nanyang, he led his troops to attach to Yuan Shu. Liu Biao wrote another book recommending Yuan Shu to serve as the Taishou of Nanyang, and Yuan Shu took this opportunity to occupy Nanyang. At that time, the population of the entire Nanyang County was millions, and at the beginning, the people of Nanyang were happy to be the Taishou of Yuan Shu, who was born in a famous family, but after Yuan Shu's separation, the result was extravagance and wantonness, and the expropriation was excessive, causing the people to suffer from hunger and cold, and they were miserable.
After Yuan Shao and Yuan Shu turned against Dong one after another, Dong Zhuo was angry on the one hand, and on the other hand, he was afraid that the Yuan clan in Chang'an City would act as Yuan Shao and Yuan Shu's internal response, so he killed Yuan Shu's uncle Yuan Kui and all the Yuan clansmen in the city, and Yuan Shao and Yuan Shu brothers also had a blood feud with Dong Zhuo in addition to the national righteousness.
After the disbandment of the sour jujube coalition, Dong Zhuo sent Yin Xiu to negotiate peace with Yuan Shu, but Yuan Shu directly refused, and Yin Xiu was also killed by Yuan Shu.
Later, Yuan Shu wrote a letter recommending Sun Jian to lead the assassination of Yuzhou, and asked Sun Jian to lead the troops of Jingzhou and Yuzhou to crusade against Dong Zhuo, while he supported in the rear.
After Sun Jian was defeated by Xu Rong in the first battle, Yuan Shu did not give up his support for him, and later Sun Jian regrouped and defeated Hu Zhen and Lu Bu in the Battle of Yangren, and also beheaded Hua Xiong, the general of the Western Liang Army. Subsequently, Sun Jian was out of control, and successively defeated the main force of the Xiliang Army led by Dong Zhuo himself and Lu Bu who guarded Luoyang, and successfully recovered the old capital Luoyang.
At that time, Cao Cao had already been disabled by Xu Rong in a war, the sour jujube coalition army was disbanded, Wang Kuang's troops were also destroyed by Dong Zhuo, Yuan Shao could only stop in Hebei, looking at the multi-way Dong coalition army, only Yuan Shu won all the way, Yuan Shu also reached the first glorious period of his life, and his reputation was once close to his brother Yuan Shao, it can be said that "the princes of more than ten roads, only Yuan Highway made contributions".
[Brothers against each other, alliance and confrontation]
The two brothers, Yuan Shao and Yuan Shu, had already had a discord, but because the two of them had the same attitude and interests in fighting Dong Zhuo, they did not turn their faces for a long time, but after the separate incident and Zhou Ang's seizure of Yuzhou, the two broke up completely.
After Dong Zhuo was deposed, Yuan Shao did not agree with the legitimacy of Emperor Xian of the Han Dynasty, so he wanted to set up Liu Yu, a virtuous Youzhou pastor, as the new emperor, and sent someone to inform Yuan Shu and hoped to get his support.
However, Yuan Shu thought that the Han family had declined, so he secretly harbored dissent.
Yuan Shao later wrote to Yuan Shu again: "In the past, there was a method of building eternity with everyone in the Hangeul Festival (Note 1), hoping that the country would once again have the lord of Zhongxing. Now there is a young emperor in name in the west, and there is no royal blood. The ministers and other courtiers flattered Dong Zhuo, how could they trust them anymore! As long as troops were sent to garrison those important passes, they could be confined to the west. We will set up a holy king in the east, and the world will be peaceful, so what doubt is there! Besides, our whole family was killed, don't you want to think about how Wu Zixu avenged his father and brother, can you be a vassal to such an emperor again? Disobeying the Mandate of Heaven is ominous, and I hope you will consider it carefully. ”
But Yuan Shu's heart was already different, and he was even more jealous of the older Liu Yu, so he pretended to be righteous and replied: "The emperor is wise and wise, and he has the qualifications of King Zhou Cheng." The thief Dong Zhuo took advantage of the crisis to subdue the hundred officials, this is just a small bad luck of the Han Dynasty, although the chaos is not over, but (the Han family) will be revived again sooner or later.
Isn't it slanderous for you to say that the Lord has 'no royal blood'? From generation to generation, loyalty and morality have come first. Taifu Gong (Yuan Kui) was merciful and merciful, although he knew that the thief Dong Zhuo would inevitably become a scourge, but he still martyred with integrity and couldn't bear to leave. Although our old Yuan family was extinct and many people died, because of this, heroes from near and far came to help, and they didn't take advantage of this time to crusade against the national thieves and brush up on the shame of the family, and plotting these things is not what I Yuan Shu wants to hear. 'The whole family was killed, can you call yourself a vassal to such an emperor again', this thing was done by Dong Zhuo, is it the emperor!
The king's order, the heavens, the heavens cannot take revenge, let alone the king! I, Yuan Shu, are here to respectfully state my sincerity, and I only aim to eliminate Dong Zhuo, and I don't know anything else. ”
Yuan Shao originally hoped that his younger brother would help him, but instead he was taught a lesson by Yuan Shu's righteousness, and his heart was extremely angry, but there was no way to refute it.
Later, Yuan Shu's general Sun Jian won three battles and three victories, recovered the old capital Luoyang, and even completely defeated Dong Zhuo, welcoming back Emperor Xian was within reach, this time Yuan Shao couldn't sit still, he took advantage of Sun Jian's troops, appointed Zhou Ang as the assassin of Yuzhou, and sent him to capture Sun Jian's Yuzhou, Zhou Ang then led the army to attack Sun Jian's garrison in Yuzhou.
In history, Gongsun Zan was afraid that Yuan Shu would hate him because he had dissuaded Liu Yu from sending troops to Yuan Shu, so he sent his younger brother Gongsun Yue to help Yuan Shu. Yuan Shu sent Gongsun Yue to support Sun Jian against Zhou Ang, but Gongsun Yue was killed by an arrow in the battle. However, Yuan Shu and Sun Jian later defeated Zhou Ang and drove him out of Yuzhou.
Yuan Shao was very dissatisfied with Yuan Shu because of the establishment of another matter, and later, as the leader of the alliance, he couldn't stand the high progress of Yuan Shu's army, so he secretly stumbled, which led to the substantive end of Dong Zhuo's crusade and the further division of the Kwantung coalition army, Yuan Shu was also completely hostile to Yuan Shao because of this matter, and the confrontation between Dong Zhuo and the anti-Dong camp came to an end, and the confrontation between the two camps of Yuan Shao and Yuan Shu kicked off.
Note 1: I didn't find out who he was during the Hangeul Festival.
