Chapter 9: Coincidence
Leaving the apartment building where Daniel lived, James was about to ask Zach where he was going next, but he found that he was leaning against his back, and when he looked back, he found that the vampire was holding his small wine bottle, and a pair of eyes looked expectantly at a drop of bright red on the mouth of the bottle, hanging in the air, but it could not be dropped.
Without further ado, James stuffed Zack into the back seat and drove towards the Southside.
"Will you continue to investigate those lists?" asked Zach, leaning back in the back seat.
"I will. James looked at the empty rearview mirror, thought for a moment, and replied.
"Leave Grande's phone. Zach leaned back in his chair, he didn't want to talk much now, if it wasn't James's car, he would light a cigarette to make the lethargy feel a little lesser.
James pursed his lips, not refusing or agreeing. Zach didn't say more, looked out the window, it was almost noon, the sun was shining through the car window, shining on the vampire's pale skin, Zach felt the blocked blood flowing under the skin, adjusting his breathing.
On the section of the road that had not yet completely left the North End, large crowds of people crowded on the side of the road, ambulances, police cars parked on the side, and James's attention was completely diverted.
"Stop over there. Zach reluctantly pointed to a shadowy street corner, knowing that James wanted to meddle in his business.
James turned around and parked in the alley of the building, with a good conscience. Pushed open the door and walked towards the crowd.
James looked around, to the southwest of Barton's North District, to the east of Paising. Perhaps the most conspicuous building is the church of Our Lady of Barton, which is depicted in the canon as the mother of the Son. Among the churches of the various themes in the Federation, Our Lady represents the most 'loving' one.
These crowds are probably worshippers.
James saw Mrs. Cousson on the outskirts of the crowd, a middle-aged woman with her daughter in her arms and anxiously looking inside.
"Mrs. Cousson!" James ran over, "What's going on?!"
"Lance!" said Madame Curson, with surprise on her face, "you're here too!"
James examined the bodies of the two men and found no injuries, and the crowd seemed to be calm, and there was no commotion, a little relieved, "Where's Curson?
"He's still in there. Mrs. Couson grabbed James's arm, and when she saw James's face suddenly tense, she realized that she had mispronounced, "He's not hurt, he's searching inside." ”
James breathed a sigh of relief: "What happened?"
"There was a collapse on the second floor of Mary's Chapel. Mrs. Coussen's body trembled, "A lot of people are injured, he, he's organizing the search and rescue and evacuation. ”
"You stay here. James pressed Mrs. Curson's arm, "I'll help." ”
Mrs. Curson nodded, and James had pulled out his badge and made his way out of the way, drowning in the crowd.
James was not really a believer, and except for his symbolic baptism as a child, and the occasional service with his mother before he came to Patton, he did not fulfill any religious obligations, and like most of the Confederalists, he regarded it only as a tradition.
Mary's Church is large, the largest church in Barton, and at this time the main entrance has been sealed by the police, and smoke and dust are leaking through the door. James flashed his badge and walked in, and there were a large number of firefighters and ambulance crews in the church, searching for the injured.
James looked up, and almost a third of the second floor was covering the first floor. Cement debris continued to fall from the zigzag fractures overhead, bent steel bars stretched out abruptly, and cement blocks attached to the steel bars hung in the air.
"Hey!" James's arm was grabbed and he stepped back, and Corson glared at his young and reckless partner, "You're standing here and want to die!"
"Uh, sorry. James withdrew a somewhat surprised expression, "What's going on?"
Cousson glanced at James in disgust: "Can't you see it? That's it! Fortunately, I found out early and started to evacuate the crowd in advance, otherwise!" Cowson waved his hands and pointed to the part of the first floor that was being suppressed by the collapse of the second floor: "Otherwise, this time, a hundred people will see God!"
It must be reminded that Detective Corson is not a devout believer either, and he is looking up at the ceiling in a daze when everyone is bowing their heads in prayer......
James had already sensed Coulson's smugness, and asked helplessly, "I mean, what's going on? Why did it collapse?"
"How do I know!" Corson raised an eyebrow, "I'm talking about getting people out first, and we won't have anything to do with it in the future." ”
Corson is very practical, they are a homicide team, and they can't control the accident. Yes, in Curson's eyes, this is an accident.
James looked again at the collapsed breach on the second floor, and for some reason, at the statue of the Virgin at the end of the church, where the woman with a serene face was holding a baby.
As Coulson says, he was fortunate to have noticed it early and started evacuating the crowd before the accident happened. There were no fatalities, many were injured, and some were trampled in the chaos that followed.
After all the wounded had been recorded, the scene was emptied and sealed for investigation, and noon had passed, and James casually made an excuse to say goodbye to the Coersons and returned to his car parked in the alley.
Zach is already 'asleep'.
Find a stick and stick into the vampire's heart, clean the back seat, and then quit Patton's job to return to the general's father in order to avoid Grande's pursuit. Such a thought really did not cross James's mind. He started the car and continued to drive towards the South District.
On Route 27, James's car seemed to have a companion, an old van with the words Patton Telecommunications emblazoned.
Toot!
The van's whistle for no reason, parallel to James, sticks out of the window with a face: "Lance Detective!
When James heard the voice, he turned his head to the side in confusion. Apparently lean, skinny body, slightly pale face, messy hair, "Detective Lance!
"Fitz!" James smiled and raised his hand to greet him, "Work?"
"yes!" Fitz exclaimed, apparently pleased to meet someone he knew, "Detective Reims, do you work too?"
"Sort of!" called James back, both of them slowing down, and it seemed like a funny thing to shout across the car, and James seemed to be in a better mood for the day.
"Where's Detective Cowson? aren't you together?" Fitz is also very welcoming, please understand the social disability of otaku, for him, it is a very magical thing to get to know the detective, although the process is not very pleasant.
"No! it's just me!" replied James, as if to say more, "where are you going?"
"Ah! there's a place called Grande House to install a new telephone!" said Fitz.
James's face froze, a head poked out of the back seat, and Zach's voice was still a little weak, "Hey!
