Then the only thing left is ethanol-based antiknock agent - MTBE - methyl tert-butyl ether antiknock agent. It was only in 1973 that the first MTBE antiknock agent production line was put into production in Italy, that is, the methyl tert-butyl ether that has been used until now.

However, MTBE is not easy to degrade, and due to long-term use, MTBE has been detected in groundwater in the United States, so much so that California legislation prohibits the use of MTBE antiknock agent! However, the oxygen content in the molecule of MTBE can effectively improve the combustion efficiency of gasoline and reduce toxic exhaust emissions, so in addition to California, Japan, the European Union, and China continue to use it in large quantities in the United States.

Later, Japan discovered another ethanol-based antiknock agent - ETBE - ethyl tert-butyl ether, which is easy to degrade and will not pollute groundwater, so it is currently being vigorously promoted on shijie. The main thing in China is that there is no large-scale industrial production, so it is not used much. At present, China mainly uses MTBE antiknock agent that has been completely localized and produced at the price of industrialized cabbage, and the production level of ETBE ether synthesis jishu industrial cabbage price has not yet been reached, so it can only be imported.

Xiaoqiang knows that if you do not add or add insufficient MTBE or ETBE for blending, you cannot directly use ethanol as an antiknock agent.
