Chapter XXIII

Beginning in late July 1905, starting with the addition of Chen Tianhua, the party organization expanded a lot.

On the second day after Chen Tianhua joined, He Zudao appeared with shame on his face. He has recovered, and this time he came to thank Chen Ke for saving his life. Chen Ke can understand the meaning of "life-saving grace" in this era, especially being saved from Hualiu disease, saving more than just lives. During the disease, the patient suffers from terrible pains such as "organ decay", which may be more terrible than death.

He Zudao is half grateful, half guilty. Seeing Chen Ke, the life-saving benefactor who personally treated him, he couldn't speak. Stammering and saying words of gratitude, He Zudao's face was red for a while and white for a while.

Chen Ke smiled as the listener waited for He Zudao to stammer, and then he asked, "Zudao, when will I be able to come back to work?" ”

"Mr. Wenqing, you, you asked me to come back to work?" He Zudao didn't expect Chen Ke's first sentence to be like this.

"Didn't you say in the previous paragraph that when you get better, you will come back to work? What's the matter, isn't your body all right? ”

He Zudao was so excited that he was about to cry when he heard Chen Ke say this. Since he was born, no one has treated him so well except his parents. If you are sick, you will be treated, and if you are sick, you will continue to work. After contracting flower willow disease this year, no one in a serious place will use you anymore. Listening to Chen Ke's words, He Zudao seemed to be just suffering from a cold.

"Mr. Wenqing, my illness has been cured. I'll be back to work right away. He Zudao choked up and said.

"It's good to be back to work. So, Footway, in my words, the disease is a contagious disease, and you have contracted it from your brother. Now that you're well, if you decide to come back, you won't be able to live with your brother anymore. If you are wronged, you should come to me as a long-term worker and move to live with me. As long as I'm still in Shanghai for a day, you'll have a place to live, a place to eat, and a place to get paid. ”

The comrades all looked at He Zudao, as the saying goes, "inseparable intimacy". Chen Ke's words are to kiss each other, but no one feels abnormal. Chen Ke has already made it clear, if He Zudao wants to come back, he must not affect the comrades. It's in everyone's interest. No one felt that Chen Ke's handling was improper, and if Chen Ke didn't deal with it like this and let He Zudao come back, even if everyone didn't publicly express their opposition, they would always feel very awkward in their hearts.

"Mr. Wenqing, I'll move here today." He Zudao said while wiping his tears.

Chen Ke walked up and patted He Zudao on the shoulder, "After you get sick, you will be so anxious that you will die, and we will have to find a way to live or die." Your sister You Wu didn't close her eyes in the laboratory for a few days in order to save you from medicine. The other friends did not do their best, just bought hundreds of rabbits for experiments, and they ran Shanghai several times. Since you've decided to come back, move over quickly. ”

After listening to Chen Ke's words, He Zudao was no longer choked, but cried loudly. He knelt on the ground, "Mr. Wenqing, Brother Huishen, I can't repay your great kindness even if I break my bones." ”

Chen Ke and Qi Huishen hurriedly pulled He Zudao up. Qi Huishen handed He Zudao a handkerchief, "Zudao, we are all friends, look at what you said." In times of crisis, can we help you, can we still stand by and watch? So you hurry up and move over, don't embarrass Mr. Wenqing. ”

"Yes, I'll go now." He Zudao wiped his tears while being dragged away by Qi Huishen.

Chen Tianhua looked at these silently, and then looked at Chen Ke. Chen Ke's special medicine, Chen Tianhua already knows. Chen Ke seems to be tolerant of letting He Zudao come back to work and provide food and accommodation, which is obviously recruiting "dead soldiers". He Zudao can be rescued by Chen Ke, at least this loyalty is not comparable to ordinary people. Chen Tianhua did not object to this. Revolutionaries need loyalty. Compared with the verbal loyalty to the revolution, He Zudao's loyalty is more precious.

He Zudao moved over that afternoon, and He Zudao was also able to attend the party meeting in the evening. Not only is He Zudao participating in the party meeting for the first time, but Chen Tianhua is also participating in the party meeting for the first time, and this time the clerk is actually He Zudao. Qi Huishen strongly recommended He Zudao because He Zudao's pen writing was extremely fast. Chen Ke provided a disposable oil pen, and as Qi Huishen said, He Zudao's handwriting was fast. In addition, after Qi Huishen taught He Zudao the shorthand method he discussed with Chen Ke, the recording speed was even faster. There are a lot fewer things where meetings are interrupted by recording.

"We must now pay attention to the distinction between inside and outside the party. My suggestion is that, since the revolutionary line within the Party has been discussed to this extent, it is a question of whether to follow the line of the people's revolution or the line of the revolution of its capitalist owners. Although now the revolutionaries of these two lines advocate the overthrow of the Manchus and the expulsion of the invaders. But in fact, there is an essential difference between the two. In the end, it is to build a new China in which the people can live and work in peace and contentment, or to build a new world in which the owners of capital can do whatever they want. In the future, even when the revolution has progressed to a certain extent, there will be contradictions, confrontations, and even wars between these two lines. Therefore, we have to launch a revolution and lead a revolution. But we can't help but be fully prepared for this. ”

The comrades are silent, for Chen Ke, this kind of understanding is only the knowledge that he must have as a leader and a believer in Grandpa Mao, but the views of the revolutionary youth are very different from those of the revolutionary youth in such a bloody future.

Today's young people are more loyal to Chen Ke than to the revolution. Or simply to be faithful to the "industrial and educational development" that the revolution has now pioneered. Chen Tianhua, the only new comrade, watched the other comrades quietly listen to Chen Ke's words, and watched Chen Ke talk about the cruelty of the future, he really had mixed feelings.

On January 4, 1903, in the name of celebrating his 30th birthday, Huang Xing invited a total of 12 people, including Liu Kuaiyi (a native of Xiangtan, Changsha Prefecture, who studied at Changsha Yuelu Academy in his early years), Chen Tianhua, and Zhang Shizhao, to gather at Peng Yuan's house in Baojia Bureau Lane, Changsha, to discuss matters such as the establishment of revolutionary groups. At the meeting, it was decided to set up Huaxing Society, known as "Huaxing Company" to the outside world, in the name of "setting up mining", and those who joined the club were called human shares, and "stocks" were membership certificates, and with the slogan of "concentric and face-to-face calculation", implying the meaning of "extinguishing the Manchu Dynasty".

On February 15, 1904 (Chinese New Year's Eve), Huaxing Society took the opportunity of the Chinese New Year's Eve banquet to officially hold its inaugural meeting at Longzhang's West Garden Residence. In addition to the 12 people who initiated the meeting, there were more than 100 people from inside and outside the province. At the meeting, Huang Xing was elected as the president, and Song Jiaoren and Liu Kuiyi were the vice presidents, and the strategic policy of "standing in one province and rising up with the provinces" was determined, and the call was to "expel the Tatars and rejuvenate China".

On September 24, 1904, the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival in the eighth month of the lunar calendar, the cattle and horse trade fair in Puji City, Liuyang was very lively, Liu Huayi was appointed by Huang Xing to preside over the solemn ceremony here, officially named Ma Fuyi as a major general, and awarded Ma Fuyi 20 guns, 40 pistols, and 40 horses. At that time, the crowd was overwhelming, and everyone was extremely excited, and it was agreed that they would only wait for a large number of ordnance to arrive in Shanghai, that is, to revolt in advance.

However, the rumors of the Huaxing Association have long been aware of the incident. When Liu Zuoji, the scum of the Hui Party (formerly a copywriter of Ma Fuyi), told Wang Xianqian about the meeting in Puji City, the authorities began to investigate and arrest Huaxinghui. Suddenly, the city of Changsha rode out in all directions, and it was terrifying. On October 24, Xiangfu ordered Huang Xing's arrest, and the military and police immediately surrounded Huang Xing's residence. At that time, Huang Xing went out and did not return, and the police hurried to the Dongwen Training Center. But Huang Xing had already learned the news, and hurriedly escaped through the back door and hid in the secret room of the West Garden of the enlightened gentleman Long Weirui's house. Two days later, under the cover of the Changsha Anglican priest Huang Jiting, Huang Xing moved to the back building of the Anglican Church and hid for nearly a week. After taking a series of measures to protect the revolutionary comrades, he disguised himself and sneaked to Shanghai in early November, and then went east to Japan with a large number of members of the Huaxing Association. Ma Fuyi fled to Xiangxi, and the following year he sought to raise righteousness again, but was arrested in defeat, and died heroically outside Liuyang Gate in Changsha on April 20, 1905, at the age of 40. At this point, the activities of Huaxing Association in China have basically ended.

In Japan, Chen Tianhua actively promoted the formation of the Alliance, and after meeting Qiu Jin, Qiu Jin showed Chen Tianhua the manuscript written by Chen Ke. The writing of this manuscript is very cold, very different from the impassioned and generous works of other revolutionaries of the era. But once Chen Tianhua read it, he couldn't let go. No revolutionary has ever been able to see the problem from such a high plane and point out the practical operation of many lines of national salvation. And the author deliberately concealed it, and in many places it was obvious that he did not say his true thoughts.

Chen Tianhua asked who the author of this work was, and Qiu Jin introduced Chen Ke to Chen Tianhua. Moreover, he introduced Chen Ke's ideal of "China's 40,000,000-person revolution". Although Chen Tianhua had a lot of work before the establishment of the Alliance, he still couldn't help but return to China to meet Chen Ke. This person named Chen Ke, as well as those revolutionary truths that were not put forward, captured Chen Tianhua's heart so much. Although Chen Tianhua was busy with work, Qiu Jin still suggested that Chen Tianhua rush back to Shanghai to meet with Chen Ke. Qiu Jin said that Chen Ke is a genius and thinks very highly of himself. It would be a pity not to let Chen Ke join the Alliance. But if he was forcibly invited, he would inevitably be rejected by Chen Ke. So Qiu Jin suggested that Chen Tianhua get along with Chen Ke for a while. Chen Ke will inevitably attach great importance to Chen Tianhua. Chen Ke is not a merciless person, at that time Chen Tianhua persuaded Chen Ke, Chen Ke will inevitably come to participate in the alliance.

Yesterday I had a long talk with Chen Ke all night, and today I read Chen Ke's manuscript and all the party meeting records of this small political party during the day, and Chen Tianhua was quite shocked. The "people's revolution" is a revolution that no other revolutionary party has ever proposed. The other revolutionary parties either agitated for a revolution among the propertied people or shouted the slogan of "popular uprising". Chen Tianhua has participated in both of these revolutionary parties. The result was a fiasco. Not only that, but as long as a dispute of interests is involved, the revolutionary parties will immediately become troubled internally, and no one can convince anyone. As a result, traitors emerged in the party. The precautions against comrades in the Party are much higher than the precautions against the enemy.

As a veteran revolutionary, Chen Tianhua did not understand the "people's revolution", and in his view, the people did not actually want revolution. After such a simple contact with the "people's revolution" proposed by Chen Ke, Chen Tianhua has already understood that the people do not want revolution, but that the people have no reason to work for the "current revolutionaries". If the people's revolution begins, the people will first have to "revolutionize the lives of the present group of revolutionaries."

This is Chen Ke's revolutionary concept, Chen Tianhua knows that this is not the "people's uprising" shouted by those revolutionaries in the past, Chen Tianhua regrets a little, and he may not come back. Every time I heard Chen Ke talk about the revolution, I tore off the masks of the world that had been smeared and showed Chen Tianhua the bloody truth inside.

Chen Ke always mentions interests and class struggle, but he never mentions any major righteousness. Chen Tianhua came from a poor background, which was what set him apart from other revolutionaries. Therefore, Chen Tianhua really cannot oppose what Chen Ke said against his will, and the current revolutionaries are indeed fighting for their own interests, as Chen Ke said. Before they came to power, they didn't think about the people, and if they succeeded, they wouldn't think about the people.

Now Chen Tianhua wants to figure out only one thing, whether the revolution of the "owners of capital" that Chen Ke called can succeed. Chen Tianhua has not yet been able to determine which side he wants to join. Or rather, he still hoped that the revolution of the "owners of capital", which was now in full swing, would succeed. It is not that Chen Tianhua cannot understand the revolution described by Chen Ke, but it is precisely because he was born in poverty that Chen Tianhua can understand the suffering of the people at the bottom, the suffering of the people at the bottom, and the anger, unwillingness and hatred they have accumulated.

Chen Tianhua felt a kind of fear of such a storm.

Listening to Chen Ke's narration, Chen Tianhua knew that Chen Ke was well aware of the meaning of different revolutions. From just one day of contact, it can be seen that Chen Ke must be from a famous family, a high-ranking official, and a wealthy family. So Chen Ke knew very well the meaning of what he said, and he was able to say what he wanted to say. It's just that Chen Ke, who was born in a wealthy and wealthy family, can't let these comrades with good backgrounds around him fully understand what he means for the time being. Because Chen Ke looks at the problem from the perspective of the whole country. A lot of things are obviously concerning. These concerns were that Chen Ke was not sure that some things would develop exactly as he had predicted. This is also the reason why those comrades could not understand what Chen Ke said.

But Chen Tianhua can understand. At Chen Ke's age, it is already appalling that his views on the world can be so profound. And although Chen Ke has some shortcomings, he also knows where the shortcomings are, and he knows how to solve them. That's why Chen Ke chose himself to be the party's propaganda minister.

Originally, according to Qiu Jin and Chen Tianhua's plan, they were going to let Chen Tianhua lobby Chen Ke to participate in the alliance. Looking at it now, Chen Ke will not participate. Chen Tianhua suddenly wanted to leave the party.

"Wen Qing, do you conclude that those propertied people refuse to join the people's revolution?" Qi will ask deeply.

"Let's take a simple example, education. The hustle and bustle of the world is for profit, and the hustle and bustle of the world is for profit. Why do you run an education? In order to get educated students. Who wants these students? Factories, banks, and now money banks, government departments, and the army also need educated students. But how many people are needed in these departments? What percentage of the people are there? It is certainly not possible for everyone to have access to an education. Moreover, the rich people who have studied now have basically enough for their own children. It's okay for those poor people not to study. The state runs as it should. So investing in education is for future profits, and since future profits can already be determined, what's the use of investing so much money? Isn't this a waste in the eyes of those who invest in education? Then it is impossible for everyone to read books. ”

"Not necessarily, right?" Hua Xiongmao said with a frown.

"First, China is so big, with a population of 40,000,000, even if it is a primary school that is compulsory education, there must be 60 million children who should go to school in China, and there must be 50 people in a class, and we think that every teacher can take all the homework from the first grade to the fifth grade. Then that's going to take 1.2 million teachers. How much is the annual salary of this 1.2 million teachers? According to a teacher's one hundred taels of silver a year, how much is that? 120,000,000 taels of silver. How much money did Xinchou Treaty accompany? The principal amount is 450 million taels of silver. This silver is not enough for the salary of so many elementary school teachers for four years. ”

"Shhh All the young people couldn't help but gasp. Everyone was worried about the number. Chen Ke saw that everyone was calculating, so he simply listed these calculations on the blackboard. Everyone looked closely, and sure enough, it was right.

Putting down the lime chalk, Chen Ke asked, "Who is willing to pay for this money?" Who can afford to invest in education? How many rich people are bankrupt to be able to afford this money? ”

The comrades were silent.

Chen Ke said reluctantly: "I'll imitate the bad guys." What would I do if I was a bad guy and I took care of this thing? ”

Chen Ke has always spoken of revolution in a positive way, and he suddenly said that he wanted to be a "bad guy". Everyone was immediately interested. Everyone's eyes focused on Chen Ke's face at the same time.

"I would ask all government officials, and the children of the wealthy, to go to school. Of course, these people are naturally the reason. When I set up a school, I will also deliberately set up two types of schools, one is a private school and the other is a public school. It is a school run by rich people, and a school funded by the state. The difference between these two types of schools is that private schools are admitted by recommendation, and you are a rich person and a connected person. I'll let you go, no money, it's okay, you don't want to get in. As for private schools, the education is very good, and it produces students with rich knowledge and well-rounded skills. There is no money in public schools, so everyone can go to school casually and just recognize a few words. If there are students who study very hard, that's not bad either. When applying for university, private universities give priority to qualified private school graduates, and then consider public school graduates. The most important thing is that the departments that run the state must have a private school background and be guaranteed by officials or chaebols when recruiting manpower. This serves a number of purposes: first, that the wealthy class can get the best education. Second, those who come from poor people also have hope. Third, I have also popularized education, and if you don't study well yourself, you can't blame me. After saying this, Chen Ke spread his hands.

Hearing this, everyone couldn't help but shake their heads and smile bitterly. Chen Ke, this bad guy, is really level.

In this way, those poor people have no education and no knowledge. It is certain that thousands of generations will be poor. Even if someone jumps the dragon gate, that's good, changing their status. And be an example. But these people are in the minority. Only those unwritten rules of key departments are enrolled, and only private school graduates are enrolled. It's enough to plug the loopholes. The people are dissatisfied and helpless. Even if the people rise up and rebel, as I said earlier, they have no education and no knowledge. It is impossible to organize, although I am small in number, but against the people who have sporadically revolted, I am so numerous that it is easy to suppress them. On the one hand, I gave the opportunity to a few poor people, and I showed no mercy to the harsh repression of those who dared to rebel. And I have money, people, and organization. What are you afraid of what they will do? Even if it is reasonable, everyone here is highly educated, and it is easy to coax some uneducated people. ”

Hearing this, everyone's faces changed. Everyone reflects on what Chen Ke said, although it is ruthless and domineering enough, but it is reasonable and well-founded, but it is a completely feasible method.

"Therefore, my revolution must be a people's revolution." Chen Ke summed up his words.
