Section 94: Riots at the port
Havena's intelligence, while mostly correct about the Swedes, ignores the fact that a Norwegian cavalry had already arrived at Skåne, led by the Norwegian hero Siegfried brothers, and that most of their Viking warriors had been withdrawn from the English Isles, numbering only three hundred, but each of them was a battle-hardened warrior.
"My Majesty, when do you plan to attack?" Under the night sky, the King of Sweden and the Siegfried brothers sit around a bonfire with a skinned boar and the smell of cooked meat in the air.
"My soothsayer is doing a divination, and he'll tell me when he's attacking." The Swedish king walked to the campfire, pulled out the knife at his waist, cut a piece of meat from the boar, and chewed it in his mouth.
"Fortune teller?" The Siegfried brothers glanced at each other, they were a little unimpressed, but they didn't say anything, divination was a normal thing for Vikings, because the god Odin himself was the god of magic and divination.
"I don't trust any prophets, I only believe in Thor, the god of thunder." As the elder brother, Siegfei tore off one of the boar's hind legs and said rudely.
"Warriors, real warriors." The King of Sweden was not annoyed, but laughed out loud, slapped Siegfried on the back, and asked for two skinned mead from his men, and the two of them drank bitterly from the skins of the wine.
Traditional Vikings believed that the so-called prophets had the power to foresee the intentions of the gods, and after devouring the dried mushrooms that grew in the Black Forest, the prophets would rise up and come to the Valhalla Temple in a trance to ask the gods about fate, sometimes the gods would be kind enough to help, but sometimes they would tease the mortals.
"Ulala, Ulala~~." The Prophet sat in a shed in the woods, chanting mantras in front of a bonfire, and next to the bonfire was a wooden bowl with some sun-dried mushrooms.
"Wow." When the Prophet felt that he was fluttering, he took the mushrooms from the wooden bowl and swallowed them, these psychedelic mushrooms carried the spirit of the Prophet out of the body.
In fact, it is ironic that the king of Denmark, who was facing each other on the other side, actually found a soothsayer, who was already in the court, and even though the Danish king himself converted to Catholicism and demanded that his subjects also convert to Catholicism, he did not expel the soothsayer who looked heretical in the eyes of the priests and bishops.
"Mu woo~~." The Danish king stabbed a bull to death with a sharp sword, and then the soothsayer stepped forward and cut open the bull's belly with his knife, revealing the steaming and colorful entrails in the bull's belly.
"How?" The King of Denmark asked the soothsayer with trepidation.
"I'm sorry Your Majesty, I've never seen such strange internal organs, everything is very blurry." But the soothsayer was unable to give the Danish king a clear answer, and he tossed and turned his liver over and over again, and his hands were stained with disgusting fluids and blood.
"What the hell is Your Majesty doing, how can you be a citizen of God and do such heretical acts again?" The bishop shook his head at the Danish king's behavior and complained to Queen Grace.
"He's under a lot of pressure right now, so let him go." Grace held her son in her arms, nursed her eldest son, and handed the child to the maid beside her.
"If you want me to say, it's time to gather the warriors and sweep all those heretics out of this land, so that Vikan can return to the arms of God." The bishop of the region said confidently, completely forgetting that these heretics were of the same race as him, and that they were all Vikings.
"I heard that Arold's ship was sunk by the Norwegians?" Ignoring the enthusiasm of the bishop of the region, Grace asked the bishop.
"I also heard about it, but it wasn't sunk, but I set it on fire and died together, I didn't expect those southerners to really have the guts." The regional bishop nodded.
"That's a good thing, the Norwegians burned Arold's ship, and he's definitely not going to let the Norwegians go, it's just that I'm curious what he's going to do?" Grace burst out laughing, and at this moment when the war was about to break out, the laughter seemed very abrupt, but the Danes in the wooden village saw the laughing queen Grace, but the original nervous mood relaxed a little, if the ruler could laugh, it means that the situation should be in their favor.
While the Danes and Swedes were preparing for war, Arold was not idle, and the port of Mecklenburg began to recruit ships, both fishing and merchant ships, all of which were called up temporarily, which made some merchants very angry, who made money by boats, and fishermen who had to go out to sea to fish to support their families, and these people gathered more and more in the port.
"These ships are our only property, and they can't be expropriated like that." Looking at the soldiers levied on the port, the merchants and fishermen said with some excitement that they would not dare to face the soldiers of Mecklenburg on weekdays, but now that their interests are at stake, they cannot remain silent.
"Dudu~~." A sharp brass whistle sounded, and the members of the town guard team, with their short sticks in their hands, ran to the port to maintain law and order.
"Who is impatient enough to dare to question the authority of the Duke?" The captain of the garrison walked up to the merchants and fishermen, and he looked at them with fierce eyes, and the members of the garrison were all retired disabled veterans, with a murderous and ruthless spirit, and the fishermen were all low-level people, and they had already retreated in their hearts when they saw the garrison coming.
"I, we just want to get back to our own boat." The merchants were the ones who traveled from south to north, and most of them were merchants from other realms, so they were not afraid of the garrison.
"These ships have been requisitioned by the Duke, haven't you read the proclamation inserted next to the harbor?" The captain of the garrison took a step forward, the tip of his nose almost touching the other man's face.
"But we're free traders, how are we going to do business if you do that?" The merchants said that although they would give three points to the nobles, these merchants were supported by the regional chambers of commerce, and if the lords did too much to them, then the merchants were likely to unite to strike the market, which was a huge blow to the nobles who were poor in materials and had to rely on trade circulation to maintain the economy of the territory.
"I only know how to carry out the orders of the Duke, and you can intercede if there are any problems." The captain of the garrison held a short stick in his left hand, slapped it on the palm of his right hand, and said to the merchants.
"Okay, let's go to the Duke's court to intercede." The merchants became angry and excited, and they turned around and walked bustling in the direction of the castle, and along the way, unknown people joined in to watch the excitement, and soon gathered into a procession of hundreds of people.
"What's going on?" The guards of Mecklenburg saw a crowd of people gathering on the road outside the castle and immediately became nervous, thinking that there had been a civil uprising.
"Blow the horn~, sound the alarm." The soldiers on the gatehouse immediately raised the drawbridge, lowered the iron gates, and sounded the horns of the guard.
Arold was discussing with Brother Elvet and others in the conference hall how to send troops to Skoo, deploy troops and choose commanders, but when he heard the sound of trumpets and the noise outside the window, he suddenly stopped.
"What's going on?" Arold asked Brother Elvet with a frown.
"I, I don't know, but I'll send someone to ask." Brother Elvet was at a loss, no one reported to him about the disturbances in the harbor, and the territory had been so calm in recent times that even the Swedes and Norwegians could not have crossed the sea so quickly.
"Go see what's going on?" Arold motioned to the Inner House Knight, and the Inner House Knight standing at the door hurriedly bowed to Arold, then turned around and left the conference hall to understand the situation.
After a while, the knights of the Inner House returned to report to Arrod, and outside the castle the merchants and commoners were united, and they were noisy as if there had been a riot.
"Riot, why?" Arold was a little puzzled by the fact that the territory had been in good order lately, and that there had been no signs of peasant or civilian riots in the Brotherhood or KGB.
