At the end of last year, I went to Xi'an with Yanjiu Garan, the ancient capital that I had always dreamed of. Although the atmosphere of the Tang Dynasty is no longer there, standing under the Big Wild Goose Pagoda in the sunset, I still have a feeling of traveling through time and space in a trance, and the grand occasion of the inscription of the former Wild Goose Pagoda seems to be right in front of me.

At the end of "The Merry Affair of Zhumen", I once longed for the pen to write about the prosperous Tang Dynasty. However, Yīn made a mistake, and eventually Jihua ran aground. After nearly two years, after my trip to Xi'an, I made up my mind that I must write about the Tang Dynasty.

In the history category, some authors are good at the infinite passion and fire generated by the collision of heroes, some authors are good at the chaotic wars that arise from the twilight of the empire, some authors are good at officialdom games, and some authors are good at graceful and elegant feelings. And I, now, prefer the various characters that have been lost in history, which is another atmosphere thousands of years away from us, and it is also a distant time and space, where people live a completely different life from today.

This time, I'm not just going to write about an era of heroes. It was an era of literary elegance, with the most outstanding literati and artists from ancient times to the present; It was an era of famous eunuchs, with one prime minister and famous minister after another; It was an era of competition among all kinds of artists, from music and dance to silk and bamboo orchestras to the sound of winding beams, all of which were peerless; It was an era of generals and phases, people dismounted and chanted poems to get drunk and lie in a wine shop, got on the horse and galloped on the battlefield to fight the sword and kill the enemy, showing the majestic and arrogant bones, confident and calm; It was an era when Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism were leading the way, and various ideas collided with countless sparks of wisdom.

It was the brilliant glory of an empire before it reached the top, it was the struggle to get rid of the old and the new, and it was the immortal cause of all nations to come.

Recalling the heyday of the Kaiyuan Dynasty in the past, Xiaoyi still hides thousands of rooms. The rice is fat and the corn is white, and the public and private warehouses are abundant.

"The Wind and Moon of the Tang Dynasty" started from Kaiyuan. Stay tuned.
