Chapter 13: Carrier Battle Group (2/2)
On December 3, 1931, the lead ship of the Tianwang-class large aircraft carrier, the Dongfang Zhiguo Tianwang (CV-1), completed sea trials and was officially delivered to the Datang Royal Navy at the Longmen Port Naval Base in Yanjing. On January 5 of the following year, the fourth ship of the Tianwang-class ship, the Northern Tawen Tianwang (CV-4), also completed the final sea test.
Zhang Xinhai and Zhang Meng attended the handover ceremony, and announced that the Datang Royal Navy had formally established the first aircraft carrier battle group, and Li Haichen had been promoted to rear admiral and became the commander of the first aircraft carrier battle group of the Datang Royal Navy. Air Force Colonel Li Jianhui, deputy wing commander of the Yanjing Air Wing, and Air Force Colonel Zhao Changzhi, deputy wing commander of the Jinling Air Wing, served as the first and second deputy commanders respectively.
It can be seen from the composition of the command personnel of the aircraft carrier battle group that Zhang Meng arranged two air force officers to serve as deputy commanders from the very beginning, indicating that the real dominant position of the aircraft carrier battle group comes from the naval aviation Liliang.
The First Aircraft Carrier Strike Group has four large aircraft carriers, 12 light cruisers, 24 destroyers, 20 submarines, four electronic reconnaissance and jamming ships for communication and notification, six supply ships, one naval hospital ship (under construction), four amphibious landing ships (under construction), and a large number of auxiliary ships, including offshore frigate gunboats and torpedo boats.
The four large aircraft carriers are the USS Tenno (CV-1) in the East, the USS CV-2 in the South, the USS Hirome Tenoh (CV-3) in the West, and the USS Tamon Tenoh (CV-4) in the North. These four aircraft carriers with a full load displacement of 37,000 tons may only be considered light aircraft carriers by 21st-century standards, but throughout the thirties and early World War II, they were classified as large aircraft carriers.
The four aircraft carriers were divided into two teams, A and B, and each team of two aircraft carriers operated jointly. The purpose is to ensure that the carrier-based aircraft on one aircraft carrier can attack the enemy, and the carrier-based aircraft on the other aircraft carrier can provide defense, so as to achieve both offensive and defensive capabilities.
Team A: Holding the National Heavenly King and Growing Heavenly King.
Team B: Wide-eyed Tennoh and Growth Tenno.
The twelve light cruisers naturally refer to the twelve Lin Xian-class light cruisers bought back from the British, but they were reclassified as Poseidon-class by the Datang Royal Navy, or called Haizihao ships according to the traditional naming rules of the Tang Dynasty.
The twelve Poseidon-class light cruisers were divided into four teams, three each.
Team A: Poseidon [CL-1], Haitian [CL-2] and Haifeng [CL-3].
Team B: Haichao [CL-4], Haizhen [CL-5] and Haidai [CL-6].
Team C: USS Haichen [CL-7], USS Tsunami [CL-8] and USS Haiqi [CL-9].
Team D: USS Starfish [CL-10], USS Haiyue [CL-11], and USS Haiquan [CL-12].
The twenty-four French-built Utopian-class destroyers were reclassified by the Tang Royal Navy as Fengshen-class, or Fengzi ships, and were also divided into four teams, six ships each.
Team A: Fengshen [DD-1], Fengyue [DD-2], Wind and Rain [DD-3], Fengyun [DD-4], Fengfeng [DD-5], Fengying [DD-6].
Team B: Wind Snow [DD-7], Storm [DD-8], Wind Wind [DD-9], Feng Gao [DD-10], Feng Qing [DD-11], Wind Sand [DD-12].
Team C: Storm Thunder [DD-13], Wind Storm [DD-14], Wind Wave [DD-15], Wind Xiang [DD-16], Wind Flame [DD-17], Wind Wave [DD-18].
Team D: Wind Ling [DD-19], Wind Fire [DD-20], Wind Sprint [DD-21], Wind Ridge [DD-22], Wind Drop [DD-23], Wind Knife [DD-24].
Each group of light cruisers and the corresponding group of destroyers form a convoy and are responsible for the sea and air vigilance and defense of aircraft carrier battle groups. Or a light cruiser and two destroyers form a pilot reconnaissance detachment to serve as an alert and patrol mission for the aircraft carrier battle group.
At present, the Datang Navy has 40 V-4 class submarines in service, which are divided into 10 teams: A, B, C, D, E, G, G, XIN, NON, and GUI, each of which is named after the fish in the major waters and oceans of Shijie, symbolizing that the submarines of the Datang Navy control all the waters of Shijie.
Team A: Flower Fish [SS-1], White Fish [SS-2], White Scaly Fish [SS-3], Sardine [SS-4]
Team B: Carp SS-5, Silver Carp SS-6, Herring Fish SS-7, Big Yellow Croaker SS-8
Team C: USS Mullet [SS-9], USS Eel [SS-10], USS Herring [SS-11], USS Knife [SS-12]
Team D: Swallowfish SS-13, Red Fish SS-14, Butterfly Fish SS-15, Papaya Fish SS-16
Team E: USS Black Ghost Fish SS-17, USS Cod SS-18, USS Perch SS-19, USS Bighead Carp SS-20
Team: Catfish SS-21, Crucian Carp SS-22, Saury SS-23, Flathead Fish SS-24
Team Geng: Billfish SS-25, Bamboo Clipfish SS-26, Mackerel SS-27, Mackerel SS-28
Team Xin: Barracuda SS-29, Spectacler SS-30, Willow Leaf Fish SS-31, Six-Thread Fish SS-32
Team Non: Songyu [SS-33], Sheepfish [SS-34], Archaeosum [SS-35], Thornfish [SS-36]
Team Grim: Magnetic Fish SS-37, Hookfish SS-38, Min Fish SS-39, Rice Fish SS-40
Among them, the five teams with the strongest combat effectiveness were assigned to the aircraft carrier battle group as the fleet escort and reconnaissance submarines, and the other five teams continued to remain in the establishment of the Datang Royal Navy's submarine fleet, shouldering the use of reconnaissance submarines in the surrounding waters and key sea areas of the Tang Empire.
The four communication and notification electronic reconnaissance and jamming ships are epoch-making high-tech warships newly refitted by the Datang Navy, with a displacement of about 2,000 tons, and their hulls come from the "Farragut" class destroyers built for the US Navy by Jihua at the Philadelphia Shipyard in the United States. This class of destroyers was the first type of destroyer designed by the United States after World War I. It was basically an enlarged version of the British destroyer of the time, with a high bow and two chimneys, and was armed with a new 127 mm high-level dual-purpose gun and a high-quality Mk37 fire control system. Because the rear main guns of this class were unprotected in the open air and the front main guns were only semi-protected, the US Navy decided that she was too rudimentary after receiving six destroyers of this class, and due to the impact of the US economic crisis, the US military unsubscribed to the next eight. The Philadelphia shipyard had already completed the construction of the hull section and the engine system, and had no choice but to transfer it at half price.
Originally, the Soviets Jihua bought these four destroyers that had been completed by two-thirds of the time, but in the end Datang came forward to stir up the situation, and the US Congress banned the export of semi-finished warships to the Soviet Union, so the Philadelphia shipyard resold these four semi-finished destroyers to the Datang Navy.
According to Zhang Meng's instructions, the Datang Navy removed the rear mast of the four semi-finished destroyers, installed a large radio tower, installed the radio full-band reconnaissance and interception equipment developed by Tesla, and changed the four destroyers into electronic spy ships of the Datang Navy.
As the first country in the world to be equipped with electronic spy ships, the Tang Empire did not make a statement, and these four spy ships were incorporated into the battle sequence of the Royal Navy of the Tang Empire in the name of communication ships.
However, due to the limitations of the industrial level, it is impossible for the Tang Army to hand over this epoch-making equipment to foreign companies for development and production, so it relies on the existing industrial equipment and Jishuliliang for research and development and manufacturing, and its detection and interception range is much smaller than that of the mainland land base of the Tang Empire. The maximum detection range of each spy ship at sea is only 200 kilometers, and the signal interception range is only 50 kilometers.
The four spy ships were not actually included in the battle sequence of the Datang Navy, they were disguised as Swiss merchant ships, and their weapons were only one parallel 12.7 mm heavy machine gun, one on the front and one on the front and one on the front deck, and they were usually concealed below the deck by elevators, and used as self-defense weapons in critical situations.
The crew members are white Europeans born and raised in Datang, and they are all agents of the Datang Homeland Security Agency, so the four spy ships are actually affiliated with the Homeland Security Agency.
Due to the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese War, the four spy ships have been collecting intelligence in the coastal waters of Japan, and have taken turns following the Japanese Combined Fleet all the way, constantly intercepting the internal radio communications of the Japanese Navy and deciphering them.
Because the Japanese were worried that when Ono Sasanori's fleet was completely annihilated, it was possible that the internal codebook and encryption algorithm of the Japanese Navy would be obtained by the Tang Army, so the Japanese Navy changed the communication code. But they didn't know that there was an expert in radio cryptography in the Ministry of Defense of the Tang Empire, and Ma Xinlan had already eaten up the codebook and encryption algorithm according to the code book and encryption algorithm obtained from the intelligence officers of the Japanese Special High School before, and after a week of cracking work, the Japanese Navy's new radio encryption method was quickly mastered by her.
Therefore, at this moment, the entire content of their radio communications of the combined fleet of the Japanese Navy was in the hands of the Tang Army.
In the face of this new type of war under high technology, what will be the fate of Takuzo Kobayashi and his fleet?
