Dong Zhuo's crusade

After the Yellow Turban Rebellion, the prestige of the Han family was frustrated, and power was needed, and the local armies organized their own forces, and the struggle between the eunuch Shi Chang and his cousin He Jin also intensified. Pen & Fun & Pavilion www.biquge.info finally in the first year of the Yonghan Dynasty (189), after the death of Emperor Ling of the Han Dynasty, the eunuchs of the relatives fought again, and He Jin was killed.

Although He Jin's general Yuan Shao led his troops into the palace to kill the eunuchs, the emperor Liu Wei and his younger brother Liu Xie were held hostage by the eunuchs and out of the palace, and then Dong Zhuo, who was summoned into Beijing by He Jin and prepared to crusade against the eunuchs, was preemptively found and controlled. Dong Zhuo wanted to depose the young emperor Liu Wei and proclaim his brother Liu Xie, the king of Chen Liu, as emperor, so he used tactics to strengthen his own power and eliminate opponents, such as inducing Ding Yuan's subordinate Lü Bu to kill Ding Yuan to seize his soldiers and horses, and forcing away the opponent Yuan Shao. After everything was ready, it was convenient to depose the young emperor as the king of Hongnong on the day of Jiaxu in September, and push Liu Xie as the emperor to dedicate to the emperor, and on the day of Bingzi, he killed the Empress Dowager He and became the actual controller of the Han family and served as the prime minister. He carried out a reign of terror in Luoyang, conniving at the rape and plundering of soldiers, and even the royal family, princesses, and palace people were not spared.

However, Dong Zhuo was reappointed by Zhou Yu and Wu Qiong in order to accept fame and calm opposition, Xun Shuang, Chen Ji, and Han Rong were all involuntarily appointed, and Yuan Shao was appointed as the Taishou of Bohai, Han Fu as the pastor of Jizhou, Liu Dai as the assassin of Yanzhou, Kong Ling as the assassin of Yuzhou, Zhang Miao as the Taishou of Chen Liu, and Zhang Shi as the Taishou of Nanyang. But these moves have not quelled resentment everywhere. Yuan Shu, who was in Kyoto, fled to Nanyang for fear of Dong Zhuo, and Cao Cao believed that Dong Zhuo would be defeated, so he also fled from Kyoto. Cao Cao, who had fled to Chenliu, scattered all his family wealth, and with the help of Xiaolian Weizi, organized about 5,000 rebels to prepare for a crusade against Dong Zhuo, and finally raised troops in Jiwu in December 189. On the other hand, Qiao Mao sent a letter to the prefectures and counties that falsely claimed to be the third duke of Jingshi, stating Dong Zhuo's evil deeds and hoping that all localities would raise troops. When Han Fu received the letter, he doubted whether he should help Yuan Shao or Dong Zhuo, but Liu Zihui, who was engaged in his governance, retorted that he should help Yuan Shao or Dong Zhuo to save the country, thinking that he would look at other people's actions before acting, Han Fu agreed, so he wrote to Yuan Shao to state Dong Zhuo's evil deeds and asked Yuan Shao to raise troops.

The course of the war

prophase

In the first month of the first year of the first year of the First Peace Period (190 years), a group of heroes from all over the country raised troops and played the banner of fighting against Dong, including: Bohai Taishou Yuan Shao, Later General Yuan Shu, Jizhou Mu Hanfu, Yuzhou Thorn Shi Kong Ling, Yanzhou Thorn Shi Liu Dai, Hanoi Taishou Wang Kuang, Chen Liutai Shou Zhang Miao, Guangling Taishou Zhang Chao, Dongjun Taishou Qiao Mao, Shanyang Taishou Yuan Yi, Jibei Xiang Bao Xin.

At that time, Yuan Shao and Wang Kuangtun soldiers in Hanoi, and Zhang Yang also led thousands of people to take refuge; Zhang Miao, Liu Dai, Qiao Mao, Yuan Yi and Bao Xintun soldiers were sour dates, and Cao Cao belonged to Zhang Miao's army; Yuan Shu stationed troops in Luyang, and Sun Jian rushed from Changsha to join Yuan Shu; Kong Lingtun Bing Yingchuan; Han Fu stayed in Yecheng and gave the coalition army rations. All the heroes elected Yuan Shao as the leader of the alliance, but only Bao Xin believed that Cao Cao was the most capable of overthrowing Dong Zhuo. Yuan Shao called himself the general of the chariot cavalry, and everyone else was falsely awarded the official title, such as Cao Cao, who was awarded the rank of general of Fenwu.

In the face of the power of the Kwantung Army, Dong Zhuo was shocked, and Dong Zhuo's son-in-law Niu Fu sent 30,000 soldiers to crusade against the defeat of the Hedong Baibo Army. Later, he proposed to move the capital to Chang'an in Guanzhong, Yang Biao and Huang Wan repeatedly dissuaded him, and Dong Zhuo dismissed Huang Wan and Yang Biao from their posts on February Yihai on the second day of February on the basis of disasters. But Dong Zhuo regretted killing the two again, so he reappointed Huang Wan and Yang Biao.

But the move of the capital did not stop, and at the beginning of Dinghai Day, Dong Zhuo drove the emperor to the west. Millions of people from Luoyang were forced to Chang'an with infantry and cavalry, and the roads filled with people trampled to death, trampled to death by horses, starved to death, robbed and killed. Dong Zhuo stayed in Luoyang Biguiyuan and ordered the arrest of the rich men, killing them on charges and confiscating their property, and countless people died. He also sent Lu Bu to dig up the tombs of the first emperor and the tombs below the ministers, and confiscated the treasures inside.

In the end, he set fire to the Luoyang palace temple, the official mansion, and the home, within 200 miles of Luoyang, the buildings were all destroyed, and the chickens and dogs were not left, so Dong Zhuo stayed near Luoyangyuan. On the second day of March, Emperor Xian arrived in Chang'an, and because Dong Zhuo did not arrive, he was assisted by Wang Yun. On the day of Wu Wu, Dong Zhuo killed his uncle Yuan Kui, Yuan Ji and his family because Yuan Shao raised an army, involving more than 50 people, including babies and women.

Despite this, the coalition army was still afraid of Dong Zhuo's strong army, so he was reluctant to go first, only Cao Cao thought that since he had raised troops to fight Dong, he should take action, so he led his troops to the west and prepared to enter Chenggao, and Zhang Miao also sent Wei Zi to lead the army with him. When the army arrived at Xingyang Bianshui, they met Dong Zhuo's general Xu Rong, and the two sides fought, Cao's army was disadvantaged by the small number of soldiers, Cao Cao was shot by an arrow, and his mount was also injured. Cao Cao's cousin Cao Hong gave the horse to Cao Cao, but Cao Cao did not accept it, so Cao Hong said: "There can be no Hong in the world, and there can be no king!" So he let Cao Cao get on his horse, chased after him on foot, and fled at night. And Xu Rong saw that he had fought for a day, and the sour jujube (ancient place name) was not easy to attack, so he led his soldiers and horses back. After Cao Cao returned to Suoju, he saw that although the coalition army had more than 100,000 people, they only set up banquets and gatherings every day, and did not try to make progress, Cao Cao was very dissatisfied, so he made a plan to them: as long as Yuan Shao led the Hanoi soldiers to Mengjin, the sour jujube generals were stationed in Chenggao, occupied Aocang, and established camps in Yuyuan and Taigu to control the dangers, while Yuan Shu went from Nanyang to Dan and Xi, and entered Wuguan to attack Guanzhong, and then the situation could be settled, and he thought that if he did not try to make progress here, he would only lose his reputation in the world and attract shame. But Zhang Miao and others did not accept it, so Cao Cao took Xiahoudun and others to Yangzhou (not today's Yangzhou City) to recruit more than 1,000 soldiers, stationed troops in Hanoi, and transferred them to Yuan Shao.

On the other hand, Sun Jian went north from Changsha, and after killing Wang Rui, the assassin of Jingzhou, and Zhang Zhi, the Taishou of Nanyang, he finally joined Yuan Shu, and was listed as the general of the Broken Captives, the leader of the Yuzhou Assassin History, and his subordinates Yuan Shu, preparing to attack the north. In winter, Sun Jian sent Changshi Gong Qiu to return to the state to supervise the military rations, set up tents outside the east of the city gate, and invited officials and subordinates to set up a banquet for Qiu Cheng to see him off. It just so happened that Dong Zhuojun's tens of thousands of steps and horses suddenly appeared, but Sun Jian was still carrying out the drinking order, talking and laughing freely, rectifying the trilogy, and ordering them not to act rashly. Later, when the cavalry of the Dong army gradually arrived, Sun Jian got up, slowly led the army into the city, and said to them: "Why I did not get up immediately and take avoidance, I was afraid that the soldiers would compete with each other for the first place, so that everyone could not enter the city." Dong Zhuojun saw that Sun Jun was neat, and he did not dare to attack and returned.

Stalemate

Later, Sun Jian changed to Liangdong, and Dong Zhuo sent Xu Rong and Li Meng to plunder, and had an encounter with Sun Jian in Liang County, Sun Jian was defeated, and Sun Jian and dozens of cavalry broke through. Because Sun Jian liked to use a red turban, he was recognized by Dong Jun, so he took it off and put it on the close general Zu Mao, leading away the cavalry of Xu Rongjun, while Sun Jian escaped from the path. Pursued by the enemy, Zumao dismounted and placed his turban on a burnt pillar while hiding himself in the grass. When the cavalry saw the turban, they thought it was Sun Jian, so they surrounded the turban, and when they looked closely, they realized that it was a pillar, and left. Most of the soldiers of Sun's army were captured and killed by cruel means, such as Li Min, the Taishou of Yingchuan, who was cooked to death, and the other soldiers were wrapped in cloth, hung upside down to the ground, and killed with hot oil. In addition, Wang Kuang of the Tun army in Hanoi also sent Taishan soldiers to Tunhe Yangjin to prepare for an attack, Dong Zhuo sent suspicious soldiers to cross the river from Pingyin, and secretly sent elite soldiers to cross the river from the north of Xiaoping, bypassing Wang Kuang's army, attacking in the rear, and breaking Wang's army in northern Jinbei, with many dead.

Han Fu was afraid that Yuan Shao would endanger him, so he gradually reduced the food delivery to the Hanoi and Suozao coalition forces, and after the army ran out of food, the coalition forces returned to their respective defensive positions, but the armies still maintained an alliance relationship. At the same time, Liu Dai and Qiao Mao have always been at odds, so Liu Dai killed Qiao Mao and led the East County Taishou with Wang Qiu. When Dong Zhuo saw the retreat of the allied forces, he sent Han Rong, Yin Xiu, Hu Muban, Wu Xun, and Wang Gui to negotiate peace with Yuan Shao and others. After everyone arrived in Hanoi, Wang Kuang informed Yuan Shao that Yuan Shao did not agree and asked Wang Kuang to kill Hu Muban, Wang Gui, Wu Xun and others. Yuan Shu also killed Yin Xiu, only because Han Rong was famous for virtue and was spared.

Yuan Shao and Han Fu wanted to make Liu Yu emperor on the grounds that Emperor Xian was young, and was controlled by Dong Zhuo, and they were separated from each other, and they didn't know whether Emperor Xian was safe, but Cao Cao refused to participate, and Yuan Shu also objected. Yuan Shao got another jade seal and raised his elbow to Cao Cao in his seat, suggesting that everything had been prepared to make Liu Yu emperor, but Cao Cao just laughed, but secretly he was very disgusted with Yuan Shao. However, Yuan Shao and Han Fu still elected Liu Yu as emperor in February, so they sent Zhang Qi and others to invite Liu Yu to discuss matters.

Liu Yu angrily scolded Zhang Qi: "Now there is a big chaos today, and the monarch has lost power. I have been greatly gratefully gracious, but I have not been able to clear the shame of the snow. You should work together to repay the royal family, but you are rebelling and rebelling, which is to bring shame to each other! Han Fu and others wanted to ask Liu Yu to lead the book, but Liu Yu still refused, and even killed the messenger, and Yuan Shao and the others had no choice but to stop.

At the same time, in February, Sun Jian recovered the stragglers and stationed troops in Yang, Dong Zhuo sent Hu Zhen as the chief governor, Lu Bu as the cavalry governor and many other governors, leading 5,000 cavalry to attack Sun Jian. Hu Zhen threatened to kill a commander as a means of purging military discipline, and all the governors hated him very much when they heard about it. When he arrived at Guangcheng, which was dozens of miles away from the city of Yangren, it was already dusk, the soldiers and horses were tired, and he was affected by Dong Zhuo's temperance, so he went down to feed the horses, rested, and prepared to set off at night and attack the city the next morning. The generals hated Hu Zhen and wanted to sabotage his plan, so Lu Bu and the others threatened that the soldiers of the Yang people had left and should be pursued immediately. Hu Zhen immediately sent troops, but it turned out that Sun Jian's army had reorganized the garrison, and Dong Jun was helpless, coupled with the hunger and thirst of the officials, and the men and horses were tired, so they had to rest on the spot. Lu Bu shouted again that someone was sneak attacking, and the whole army was in chaos, abandoned his armor and fled, and lost his saddle. Escaped more than ten miles away, only to find that there was no pursuer, just dawn, so he gave up his weapons and wanted to attack the city again, but the army had been discovered by Sun Jun and strengthened the defense of the city, and Hu Zhen and others had to retreat. Sun Jian went out of the city to pursue, defeated Dong Zhuojun, and killed the governor Huaxiong and others.

Yuan Shu saw that Sun Jian defeated Dong Zhuojun, and someone said to Yuan Shu: "If Sun Jian gets Luoyang, he will not be able to check and balance him, this is to get rid of the wolf and attract the tiger." Yuan Shu was suspicious, so he did not transport military rations to Sun Jian. Sun Jian rushed back to Luyang overnight, and severely reprimanded Yuan Shu, Yuan Shu was ashamed, and immediately transferred military rations, and Sun Jian also returned to Yangren. Dong Zhuo also heard that Sun Jian was so powerful, so he sent Li Dao to persuade Sun Jian and his relatives, and even said that his children could be made to serve as assassins and county guards, but Sun Jian scolded Dong Zhuo and refused. Immediately marched to Dagu, Dong Zhuo personally led his troops to fight with Sun Jian in the tomb of the first emperor, Dong Zhuo was defeated, moved to Tun Michi, and gathered troops in Shaanxi.

Sun Jun entered the Xuanyang Gate in Luoyang and repelled Lü Bu. Sun Jian swept away the temple, sacrificed to heaven and earth, divided his troops to send a letter to Guguan, and went to Xin'an and Mianchi to defend Dong Zhuo's army. Dong Zhuo said to Changshi Liu Ai that only Sun Jian was noteworthy in the Kwantung Army, and everyone should pay attention to it. He left Dong Yuetun to fight in Michi, Duan Xuantun to Huayin, Niu Futun to Anyi, and other generals to stay in the counties to balance Shandong, and set off to Chang'an. After Sun Jian repaired the tombs, he led the army to return to Luyang. Due to the serious damage, Luoyang only became a place for Dong Zhuo to confront the Kwantung Army. Although Sun Jian invaded Luoyang, most of the heroes in the coalition army formed grudges in this battle, and turned from fighting Dong Zhuo together to expanding their own territory.

outcome

Although this battle was nominally a joint crusade, in fact, the various heroes evaluated each other's opponents and preserved their own strength, and formed a lot of grudges for this. The two most respected heroes in the alliance, Yuan Shao and Yuan Shu, were the first to provoke infighting, and Yuan Shao first used a strategy to seize Han Fu's Jizhou and start a war with Gongsun Zhan. Yuan Shu owned Nanyang and had a bad relationship with the new Jingzhou assassin Liu Biao, and his subordinate Sun Jian, who was famous in the crusade against Dong Zhuo, was killed in an ambush while attacking Liu Biao. Later, the two brothers of the Yuan family broke up, forming a melee in the Central Plains. Subsequently, Cao Cao attacked Taoqian in Xuzhou due to personal grudges; Liu Dai, Qiao Mao, Zhang Yang and other weaker forces also fought openly and secretly; and Sun Jian's subordinates supported Sun Jian's eldest son, Sun Ce, who also attacked various parts of Jiangdong and divided one side. Since the imperial court has been controlled by the traitor Dong Zhuo both nominally and in fact, the open killing among the princes in various places has been uncontrollable, and there is no longer even a need to use any pretense.

After Dong Zhuo arrived in Chang'an, he did not reduce the reign of terror, but intensified, calling himself Taishi, and even more oppressing ministers, killing people, extravagant, and dictatorial and ferocious, which made the ministers of the court hateful, Situ Wang Yun and Huang Wan, Shang Shufu Shooter Sun Rui, Yang Zan and others conspired to kill Dong Zhuo, and contacted Lu Bu, the Zhonglang general in charge of Dong Zhuo's guards, and Li Su, the cavalry commander of Dong Zhuo's subordinates.

In 192 A.D. (the third year of the first peace), on the day of Ding Si in April, Wang Yun, Lu Bu and others killed Dong Zhuo outside the gate of Weiyang Hall in the name of the emperor's edict and ended Dong Zhuo's rule. However, Dong Zhuo's subordinates Li Dao, Guo Yan and others thought that in the name of avenging him, they quickly led their troops to break through Chang'an, killed Wang Yun, repelled Lu Bu, and continued Dong Zhuo's ****. In the end, Emperor Xian was forced to flee from Chang'an, displaced, and finally took refuge in Cao Cao, and the Han dynasty existed in name only.
