(222) The eve of the storm
Xi Xue noticed that Yang Shuoming's pupils suddenly flashed a faint red light, and although it was not the first time she had seen him like this, she couldn't help but shudder.
"It's time for an end." Yang Shuoming said to himself, returned the report to Xi Xue, came to the railing, and stretched his body in the golden sunlight.
"What's the end of it?" Xi Xue couldn't help but ask behind him, "Are you going to fight again?" β
Yang Shuoming looked back at her, and couldn't help but be a little surprised when he saw the anxious look that flashed in her eyes unconsciously.
"Of course not." Yang Shuoming pointed to the huge warships sailing under his feet and said, "These warships, the muzzles are always external. β
Xi Xue's face flushed, as if she felt a little regret for what she had just said.
"This country has experienced enough wars, and I will not let the Chinese fight on their own as long as possible." A harmless and even innocent smile appeared on Yang Shuoming's face, but it made Xi Xue feel a chill.
"Some things don't necessarily have to be fought to the death to be able to distinguish the winner from the loser, and some other means can also achieve the goal." Yang Shuoming said, "Since I came here, I have actually learned a lot of things. β
Hearing his brainless words, Xi Xue felt very strange, but she didn't ask the same question just now.
"The storm is coming, let's go down!" Yang Shuoming looked at the large dark clouds floating in the sky in the distance, and said to Xi Xue.
Night, Yanjing, the clubhouse of the Chinese Youth Party.
"As the National Socialist Party said, this election was an outright bribery."
"During the election period, there were at least 16 powerful Beiyang soldiers from all over the country who had secret telephone exchanges with Xu Shuzheng, and among the 17 provinces participating in the election, Xu Shuzheng was able to influence 12 provinces. In other words, with the exception of Jiangxi, Fujian, Yunnan, Guixiang, and other five provinces, almost all local leaders joined forces with them to control the election. In most cases, Xu Shuzheng even directly sent the list he wanted to be elected to the provincial overseers, asking them to accept it as ordered, and these overseers really accepted it as ordered, and the people selected were the goods on the list, and they were exactly the same. Xu Shuzheng also called it spending money to 'buy fish'. How unreasonable! β
"This election is a re-election system, in which the constituencies elect the elected candidates for the scheduled primary, and then these elected people elect members from each other. The votes in the primary election were relatively cheap, and as long as local leaders such as township directors and patriarchs were bought, a large number of votes would be in hand. I bought it in the primary election, and I had to buy it even more in the second election. So at the time of the re-election, buying tickets is particularly obvious and presumptuous. Almost all provinces participating in the elections have similar problems. It can be said that wherever the local warlords' 'auxiliary election' is not effective, Xu Shuzheng's bribery is a little stronger. The place where the ticket buying and selling tickets are traded makes the market lively, especially the teahouse, tavern, and the record house are several times more profitable than the market. Like Baoding, the original prostitution industry was depressed, and there were only three first-class records houses left, and since the election was prevalent recently, six more were suddenly added. It's unbelievable. β
"Bribery requires money, elections need money, in fact, elections themselves need funds, if you want to indulge in elections and buy votes, you can't do it without a lot of money. But Duan Qirui was in the election, where did he Xiao Xu get the money? β
"This material has been said very clearly, and most of it also comes from borrowing from Xiang himself. said that the purpose of the loan he lent to Duan Qirui was mainly to help him build up his own armament. β
"This is my own loan, which is said to be borrowed from Mitsubishi. The handlers are Cao Rulin and Nishihara Kamezo. It is said that more than 17 million yuan of the first 20 million yuan borrowed by Nishihara was used in the congress and later in the presidential election. β
"Suncheon Times publicly reported that the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Communications each sent 700,000 oceans, which is obviously far from enough. Zeng Yujun (another core aide of Duan Qirui) also said that the monthly allowance for the members of the Anfu Club is 300 yuan per person, which Xu Shuzheng withheld from the War Department. β
"It is precisely because of this large amount of money that they have made this 'Anfu Club' that was temporarily entangled for the sake of the election, and they were able to defeat the research progressive party that was in the limelight, swallowing up the vast majority of seats in the current Diet, which is known as the Anfu Congress. said that he has always been shrewd, since they lent money to Duan Qirui to build a private army, they should not be unaware of such a big flaw in the use of money, but they were silent, and they were willing to do a big wrong. It can be seen that it was premeditated. β
"We should make this public."
"We should now try our best to prevent the danger of China's redness, and at this time, we are afraid that it will do Soviet Russia a great favor."
After listening to everyone's words, a scholar-like man in a black suit at the head lifted the gold-wire glasses on the bridge of his nose and said in a deep voice: "It has always been the purpose of this party to resist power outside and eliminate national thieves internally. Russia and China are both the great enemies of China, and both need to be on the same guard and must not be neglected. β
This person is Zeng Qi, the leader of the Chinese Youth Party.
The Chinese Youth Party was founded on December 2, 1918 on Rue de la RΓ©publique de la RΓ©publique de la Rose Village in Paris, and its founders included 12 people, including Zeng Qi, Li Huang, He Luzhi, Li Buyi, and Zhang Zizhu. The inaugural meeting defined the purpose of the party, which is "to adopt the spirit of nationalism, to adopt the means of revolution of the whole people, to resist the power of power from outside, to strive for the reading power and freedom of the Republic of China, to eliminate the thieves of the country, and to build a country for the welfare of the whole people." Since then, the purpose of "resisting power from outside and eliminating thieves from within" has been upheld by Al-Shabaab.
To a certain extent, the founding of the Chinese Youth Party has the meaning of competing with the communitarian ideology that has just been introduced into China. Chen Qitian, one of the founders, solemnly pointed out when the Youth Party was founded: "Since the founding of the Republic of China, although aspiring young people are enthusiastic about patriotic movements, they are not enthusiastic about political activities. By the outbreak of the October uprisings in Russia, there was a great deal of admiration for Bolshevism in the country, and a group of people secretly formed in accordance with the instructions of Soviet Russia and the Third International, and carried out political activities in various ways. This generation began to carry out redification in the 'Shaozhong' Association, and then decided to join the revolutionary party and sell dog meat on the head of a sheep. The revolutionary party also began to unite with Russia to give it a chance to develop, so that the aspiring youth, who had been enthusiastic about the patriotic movement but not the political movement, had to rise up and try to resist the political movement of the Red Army. β
This antagonism between the Shabaab and the Chinese Bolsheviks can be traced back to the internal split of the Young China Society. The leaders and founders of the Youth Party, Zeng Qi, Li Huang, Chen Qitian, Zuo Shunsheng and others, were the initiators and backbone members of the "Young China Society" in the early days. Originally, the purpose of the society was to advocate social transformation and stay away from realpolitik, but around 1919, there were serious disagreements among members about whether to participate in realpolitik. There is even more disagreement on how to engage in realpolitik. Li Huang, the founder of the Young People's Party, said: "As early as the establishment of the 'Shaozhong High School', due to the influence of the world's ideological trends, except for a few members who still do not care about politics and specialize in academics, such as Wang Guangqi, Zhou Wu and others, most of the members have differences because of their different views on the transformation of China, and this disagreement was first seen in the correspondence and discussion between Li and Zeng Qi, Li advocated that the China question is a world problem, and if you want to save China, you must first participate in the world revolution; He once advocated that a world revolution is absolutely impossible in view of the current international situation, that China needs to seek self-improvement and self-help, and that internationalism is only an ideal and is by no means reliable. β
This disagreement, described by Li Huang, was later reduced to a dispute between "[***]" and "nationalism." At that time, a group of members of the "Young China Society" represented by Li Shouchang and Deng Zhongkang were deeply influenced by Soviet Russia and believed that the era of the proletarian world revolution had arrived, and that if China wanted to get rid of the fate of being oppressed by foreign powers and having warlords at home, it must eradicate all exploiting classes at home and participate in the world proletarian revolution.
However, in the view of another group of members of the "Young China Society" represented by Zeng Qi, Li Huang, and Zuo Shunsheng, it is unreliable to pin their hopes on Soviet Russia for the fate of the Chinese revolution, because any country participating in international affairs will inevitably take its own interests as the starting point, and the so-called true internationalism does not exist. In his 1918 book The State and Youth, Zeng Qi very clearly opposed the "class standard" and called on young people to think about China's future and destiny "based on the country and the nation".
Obviously, there is little room for compatibility between the "nationalism" of Zeng Qi and Li Huang and the "communalism" of Li Shouchang and Deng Zhongkang -- the former emphasizes "national interests above all else", while the latter advocates "workers without a motherland"; The former advocates the politics of the whole people, while the latter believes in world revolution and class dictatorship. This disagreement eventually turned into a heated controversy -- one day in the spring of 1920, Zeng Qi, Li Huang, Chen Qitian, and others, together with Li Shouchang, Deng Zhongkang, Zhang Yinhao, and others, discussed each other's political ideas in Zuo Shunsheng's apartment. β
Whether in France or at home, the core figures of the Chinese Youth Party, "Zeng (Qi), Zuo (Shunsheng), and Li (Huang)", and the early core figures of the Chinese Bolsheviks, such as Li Shouchang, Deng Zhongkang, Zhang Yinhao, and others, have never ceased to debate their political views. In France, the Bolsheviks had the semi-monthly Bloodlight as their position; Zeng Qi and others founded the weekly newspaper "Xiansheng"; After the two sides returned to China at about the same time, Zeng Qi and others founded the weekly newspaper "Awakening Lion" to counter the Bolsheviks' organ publication, "Chinese Youth".
For the Chinese Youth Party, their real political demand is to hope that China will follow the path of "nationalism". Its founding purpose is "to resist power externally and eliminate national thieves internally", which has always been adhered to by party members. Zeng Qi, as the leader of the Youth Party, once explained the meaning of "resisting power outside and eliminating national thieves inside":
"The definition of a national thief: What is a national thief? That is, the behavior of the person who is contrary to the public will of the people and harmful to the survival of the country. According to this definition, for example, we can find a number of national thieves, who are the public enemies of the people, who are said to have absolutely impossible to survive in Europe and the United States, and who are like vines and grasses growing in our country. β
"Types of national thieves: It is difficult to list all the types of national thieves, but according to the above definitions, the most significant ones are as follows: 1. Warlords who steal national power and destroy people's lives; 2. Bureaucrats who engage in fraud for personal gain and bring disaster to the country and the people; 3. A political party vying for political power under the guise of external forces; 4, a politician who is incorruptible and shameful; 5. Control the locality, the indiscriminate gentry of the villagers; 6. Collusion with outsiders to plunder the wealth of the country; 7. Destroying public welfare and seeking private interests; 8. Deceive the world and steal fame, irresponsible hometown wishes; 9. Relying on outsiders and suppressing the followers of their compatriots; 10. Hooligans who disturb society and harm the state. β
"The Definition of Power: What is the Power? That is, those who impose all kinds of pressure on individuals or countries are also. The method is either 'direct' or 'indirect', and according to this definition, for example, there are the countries of Britain, France, the United States, and Italy that claim to be great powers, which are the most sufficient footnotes to the great powers. Gai Qi invaded and bullied a weak country, like a tiger and a leopard against dogs and sheep, and its ferocity was unbearable! β
"There are four types of power: (l) a policy of armed aggression (e.g., the direct occupation of land by force); 2. Policies of cultural aggression (e.g., advocating a nationalized education); 3. Policies of economic aggression (such as tariffs and salt taxes that control the lifeblood of the economy); 4. Policies of religious aggression (e.g., sending priests to China to preach). β
From Zeng Qi's description of "national thieves" and "power", it is actually impossible to see that the founding purpose of the Chinese Youth Party is to "resist power outside and eliminate national thieves inside", and it has the meaning of referring specifically to Soviet Russia and the Bolsheviks. However, at this time, the Young Party members had already seen the danger of exporting the revolution from Soviet Russia to China, so Zeng Qi described in detail the difference between the views of the Young Party and the communists on the issue of "foreign resistance to power" in the weekly newspaper "Awakening Lion":
"The so-called phrase 'down with international capitalist imperialism' came from Soviet Russia, which practiced communalism,...... The first reason is that we believe that the foreign powers have different policies toward China, and that they have many opposite interests, and that we should deal with them separately, as Turkey did. It is absolutely impossible to oppose at the same time, and to obey the orders of the Soviets. Second, we advocate 'nationalism', but in order to protect our own country, we have no intention of 'interfering in other countries', and the phrase 'overthrowing international capitalist imperialism' contains the meaning of interfering in the internal organization of other countries, which is obviously a kind of 'world revolution'. When we ourselves are still in bondage, I am afraid that we will not have the strength to do this. Thirdly, if we only call for the defeat of the capitalist empire, if there is a non-capitalist empire in the world that comes to us by force, or according to our territory, or force us to obey the command, what will we say at that time? Therefore, it is better to change it to 'external resistance to power', indicating that we only want to 'protect our own country' and not interfere with others, and that all powerful countries that are combined with pressure, regardless of what kind of system they have, should rise up and resist them by force in accordance with the principle of 'national self-defense', which is the duty of a nationalist! β
"Yes, now the threat to our country is far greater than that of Soviet Russia." Another Shabaab leader, Zuo Shunsheng, said, "If you look at the conditions of the Xiyuan loan, half of it is a loan from the Bank of Communications, nominally to stabilize China's financial system, but in fact it wants to control China's financial lifeline and support the pro-political forces within China's political axe. With regard to the various loans from the three eastern provinces, the purpose was to consolidate and expand their influence in the northeast. The railway loan is to extend its hand to the Jinghan Line and the Jingpu Line, and as for the military aspect, it is to extend its hand to China's army construction and ordnance manufacturing. This is the content of the fifth number of the 'twenty-one articles' of that year! Its intentions are so sinister! β
"And most of these loans are still in the name of private loans, just to hide people's eyes!"
"Yes, the so-called 'private forces' that have always existed in China are not really people, as long as it is something that I interfered in, there will definitely be no good thing."
"So we can't sit here now." Zeng Qi got up and said, "We must take action and call on the people of the whole country to rise up and let Duan Zheng axe step down!" Replace it with a political axe made by a good person! β
"Our party has not been established for a long time, and it is alone and alone, and this matter was first discovered by the National Socialist Party, so it is better for our two parties to take joint action." Someone suggested.
"The Kuomintang Socialist Party is the first to advocate science, open cooking, and freedom, and also takes nationalism as the guideline, and there are many people who are similar to the purpose of our party, so we might as well join forces this time." Zuo Shunsheng agreed.
"The Progressive Party is the only group of literati politicians allied with the Anhui faction since Yuan Shikai's restoration, and this time it has parted ways with Duan Zhengaxe, so on their side, we might as well secretly inform that their gang are all veteran politicians, who are good at political disputes, and they are also mobilized to have a greater chance of success."
"Although we have evidence in our hands, we can't take it lightly and take it too easy." Zeng Qi said, "Duan Qirui is the founder of the 'rebuilding of the republic', who came to power after Yuan Shikai's death, and he represents not only his own Anhui system, but the entire Beiyang system." Even within Beiyang, most of them think so. Although there are already internal factions in the current Beiyang system, they have not yet clearly diverged. Duan Qirui was originally the No. 1 Beiyang figure under Yuan Shikai, and did not participate in the Hongxian Empire, and there were quite a few complaints, after coming to power, not only the Beiyang system unanimously supported, but even the south also expressed its approval, and no one in the 'North Cai Nanyang' had a different word, and even some people who originally belonged to the overseas revolutionary party system also said that it was acceptable. A bribe alone will not bring him down. If you want to bring him down, you must focus on the purpose of the loan. β
