Abstinence means the number of years a bhikshu has been employed, which means how long you have been a bhikshu. Of course, the longer you become a bhikshu, the more respected you become. Just like a business or a business manager, the longer you do it, the more people will trust you, and what will happen when you go out later, and the more money you get.
