(612) The Theory of Hell and Heaven
"However, the recent trend of public opinion doesn't seem to be too favorable to you......" Huang Yunzhi looked at Yang Shuoming for a while, but still said the hidden worries in her heart.
"What did you hear?" Yang Shuoming smiled and took his beloved wife's hand and asked.
"It's nothing ......" Huang Yunzhi smiled and said, "You have been busy with front-line military affairs for a while, and you have been flying around in the sky all day, and you may not have read the newspaper." She took a newspaper and handed it to Yang Shuoming, "There have been more and more anti-war remarks in China recently, saying that our Huaxia participated in the Imperial War of Righteousness and Righteousness, just like the European War in the past, and exchanged the surnames of countless young people for the interests of chaebols and warlords......
"To put it bluntly, it is to cry out for the grievances of the Soviet Union!" A hint of anger flashed in Yang Shuoming's eyes, he took the newspaper and glanced at it, and couldn't help but sneer.
"Our Huaxia is now a country of open cooking, freedom of speech, and it is normal for such voices to appear." Huang Yunzhi sensed the anger in Yang Shuoming's heart, and regretted that he shouldn't have said this, "After all, after so many years, there are still people who have been poisoned by the idea of communalism, and those slogans and doctrines are too demagogic." In the past, the poor peasants at the bottom were easily deceived by it, but now that the peasants are rich, not many people listen to them, and those who shout these views are just some literati and ignorant young people with ulterior motives, so you don't have to take them to heart. ”
"That's not what I said." Yang Shuoming shook his head, "This shows that in terms of propaganda, we are still one layer behind the Soviet Union." At this juncture, it's easy to have a bad impact. ”
"What do you want to do?" Huang Yunzhi asked worriedly, "No...... Kill on a killing spree, right? ”
"Where do you want to go?" Yang Shuoming said with a smile, "You know, the mind is not afraid of bullets, so we have to use a better way to deal with it." ”
"What do you want to do?" Huang Yunzhi asked.
"President Roosevelt always likes to make a 'fireside talk' when he has nothing to do, and I plan to learn from him, and by the way, promote domestic television and sell it." Yang Shuoming said with a smile.
The next day, at 9:30 a.m., Central Plaza.
Although China has fully joined the Second World War, because the battlefield is basically far from the mainland, people's daily life has not been disturbed too much, but the military ranks and ubiquitous recruitment advertisements appear on the streets from time to time, reminding people that the war is still going on.
What is different today is that many people gather in public places such as squares early in the morning, gathered in front of huge TV screens.
What they were waiting for was a televised speech by Yang Shuoming, the acting president of the Chinese Federation, to the people of the whole country.
At this moment, in bars and restaurants, wherever there is a television or radio, people are gathered to listen to Yang Shuoming's speech.
Soon, the advertisements on TV stopped, a familiar figure appeared on TV, and the radio station also terminated the broadcast of the advertisement, and Yang Shuoming's voice sounded.
After a short opening remarks and blessings, Yang Shuoming got to the point.
“…… I know that many people have questions of one kind or another about the war we are fighting, or rather, the war against the Soviet Union: Why are we fighting against such a country as the Soviet Union? Why should we see the USSR as our uncommon enemy? I hope that today I can give you a clear explanation of this issue. ”
In 1920, Vychensky, a Soviet national, was appointed by the Communist International to come to China to found the Communist Party of China. In 1921, the Communist Party of China was founded with the help of the Communist International and became its branch, receiving monthly funds from the Soviet Union from 1,200 yuan per month to 14,000 yuan per month in 1926. In 1927, a total of 1,100,000 rubles, 300,000 U.S. dollars, 100,000 Chinese yuan, 10,000 Shanghai banknotes and a large number of military supplies were allocated internationally to finance the Chinese Communist Party to launch a nationwide uprising and try to establish a satellite regime of the Soviet Union in China -- they even had the name of the country in mind, called it 'Chinese Soviet power' -- the imperialist countries only absorbed our assets and shackled our siblings, and the Soviet Union actually bought our conscience and corroded our souls; Imperialism only wanted to fool our bureaucrats and soldiers, and the USSR went so far as to fool our youth and scholars...... I'd rather ask, what is this not the enemy?! ”
"The Soviet Union, like the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, claimed to be a paradise on earth, and the people who were seduced by it seemed to forget that what always turns a country into a hell is precisely what people try to turn into a paradise."
"When the course of civilization takes an unexpected turn – that is, when we find ourselves not moving forward as we anticipated, but by the evil which we associate with the barbarism of the past, we naturally complain without reproach. Aren't we all already striving for our best ideas, and aren't many of our best minds already working ceaselessly to build a better world? Haven't all our efforts and hopes been aimed at more freedom, justice and prosperity? If the outcome is so different from our aim, if we are faced not with freedom and prosperity, but with slavery and suffering, then the forces of evil must have thwarted our intentions, and we have fallen victim to some evil force that we must conquer before we can continue on the path to good things, is it not obvious? No matter how much we divide in pointing out the culprit, whether it is the unjust capitalists, or the evil spirit of a particular people, or the stupidity of those who came before us, or the social system with which we have struggled for decades but which have not yet been completely overthrown, all of us, at least recently, have affirmed that there can be nothing wrong with the dominant ideas of the previous generation that were shared by the majority of good people, and which determine the main changes in our social life. We are ready to accept any explanation for the present crisis of our civilization, but apart from that, the state of the world may be the consequence of our own real mistakes, and the pursuit of certain ideals that we hold dear to us has clearly had consequences that are very different from what we expected. ”
"When we devote all our energies to the end of this war, it is sometimes difficult to imagine that the values for which we are now fighting, even before the war, have been threatened here and destroyed elsewhere. While hostile nations at present are at war for survival and represent different ideals, we must not forget that this conflict arises from a struggle of ideas that, not so long ago, existed in a common world civilization. The tendency that would eventually create a totalitarian regime was not confined to countries that were deeply entrenched in it. While our immediate priority now is to win this war, winning this war will only give us another chance to confront the fundamental problems and to find a way to avoid a repetition of the mistakes of similar civilizations. ”
"However, the key issues that we, the good people, are still rarely aware of, are not only the magnitude of the changes that have occurred in the last generation, but the fact that they represent a complete change in the direction of the evolution of our ideas and social order. At least in the years before the specter of totalitarianism became a real threat, many of us had already deviated from the basic ideas that underpinned world civilization. The fact that the movement, which we have entered with such lofty hopes and ambitions, has brought us directly to the threat of totalitarianism is a profound shock to the current generation, which is still reluctant to link these two facts. However, this development only confirms the warning of the fathers of the liberal philosophy that we still follow. We have gradually renounced freedom in economic affairs, without which there would never be the kind of personal and political freedom that we had before. Despite the warnings of the great thinkers that socialism meant servitude, we made steady progress in the direction of socialism. And now that we have seen this new form of slavery rise before us, and we have forgotten all this warning, it is difficult for us to think that the two things might be linked. ”
The fact that socialism has replaced liberalism as the creed of the vast majority of progressives does not simply mean that the warnings of the great liberal thinkers of the past about the consequences of collectivism have been forgotten. It happened because they believed in something that was exactly the opposite of what these thinkers had prophesied. It is astonishing that the same social favouritism, which was not only recognized earlier as the most serious threat to liberty, but which from the outset was quite openly a reaction against the liberalism of the French Revolution, gained universal acceptance under the banner of liberty. It is rare for anyone to remember that social favoritism has been straightforward from the very beginning. The French writers who laid the foundations of modern socialism had no doubt that their ideas could only be put into practice through a strong axe of reading. For them, socialism meant that it was nothing more than an attempt to 'put an end to the revolution' by prudently reforming society along hierarchical lines and imposing a 'spiritual force' of coercive castes. When it comes to freedom, the founders of social benevolence make no secret of their intentions. Free thought, in their view, was the source of the evil of society, and Saint-Simon, the first of the modern planners, even foretold that those who did not obey the planning committee he proposed were to be 'treated like cattle'. ”
"Boiling is essentially an individualistic system, in irreconcilable conflict with socialism, which expands the scope of individual freedom while socialism restricts it. Mingzhu gives value to everyone as much as possible, while social favoritism only makes everyone a tool, a number. Boiled and social benevolence have nothing in common except for the word 'equality'. But notice the difference: Boiled seeks equality in freedom, while socialism seeks equality in bondage and slavery. In order to alleviate these doubts, and to make for its own use the strongest of all political motives, the desire for freedom, social benevolence began to exploit the promise of a 'new freedom'. The advent of social favoritism will be a leap from the kingdom of necessity to the kingdom of freedom. It will bring 'economic freedom', without which it is 'not worth it' the political freedom that has been gained. Only socialism can complete the long-term struggle for freedom, in which political freedom is only the first step. ”
The subtle change in the meaning of the word liberty is important by changing the meaning of the word liberty so that the argument sounds plausible. For the great advocates of political freedom, the word meant freedom from coercion, freedom from the arbitrary power of others, liberation from bondage that left individuals with no choice but to obey the commands to which they were subject. The new freedoms promised, however, are freedom from necessity, liberation from the compulsion of circumstances that inevitably limit the choice for all of us, albeit for some more than for others. ”
In this sense, of course, freedom is nothing more than a synonym for power or wealth. Yet, while this promise of new liberty is often compared to the irresponsible promise of a greatly increased material wealth in a socialist-benevolent society, it is not because of this absolute conquest of nature's miserliness that economic freedom is within reach. This promise actually means that the great disparity that exists in the choice between different people will be eliminated. The demand for this new freedom, therefore, is merely synonymous with the old demand for an equal distribution of wealth. But this new term gives the socialists a synonym with liberals, and they make full use of it. And while the term is used in different senses by the two groups, few people have noticed it, and even fewer have questioned whether the two freedoms promised are truly combined. ”
"There is no doubt that the promise of greater freedom has become one of the most effective weapons of social philanthropist propaganda, and that the belief that social benevolence will bring freedom is genuine. But if the path promised to us to freedom turns out to be in fact a road to slavery, the tragedy is even worse. Needless to say, the promise of more freedom has lured more and more liberals down the path of social-philanism, blinded them into the conflict between socialism and the basic principles of liberalism, and often led social-favoritarians to usurp the names of the old liberal parties. It is not surprising that social favoritism is regarded by the vast majority of intellectuals as the natural heir to the liberal tradition, and therefore cannot accept the view that social favoritism leads to the opposite of freedom. ”
"In recent years, however, observer after observer, despite their very different expectations in studying their subjects, has been impressed by the similarities in many aspects of the situation under 'fascism' and 'communism'. While the 'progressives' in this country and elsewhere continue to deceive themselves that communitarianism and fascism represent opposing extremes, more and more people are beginning to ask themselves, are not these new tyrannies the result of the same tendency? Even the communitarians must have been more or less an old friend like Lenin, Max? I was struck by the kind of declarations made by Mr. Ismen; He himself had to admit that Stalinism was not better than fascism, but worse, more cruel, ruthless, barbaric, unjust, immoral, [***], hopeless, and it could best be called 'ultra-fascism'. ”
"As early as a few afternoons, Mr. Chamberlain, an American journalist who had lived in Russia for 12 years, saw that all his ideals had been shattered, and summed up his research there, in Germany and Italy, in this way: 'The socialists will surely prove that, at least at the beginning, it is not the road to freedom, but the road to the reading and the anti-reading, to the worst of civil wars.' Social benevolence, which is realized and maintained by open boiling, does seem to belong to the utopian world. In the same vein, a British author, Mr. Voight, who had observed the development of Europe in detail for many years as a foreign correspondent, concluded that 'Marxism has given rise to fascism and national socialism, because in its whole essence it is fascism and national socialism'. ”
"The generation to which we belong is now learning from experience what happens when people give up their freedom in favor of compulsory organization of their affairs. Although they expected a more affluent life, they certainly let go of that expectation in practice; With the increase in organized management, diversification of objectives will inevitably give way to integration. This is retribution for the principle of reading talent in planned social and human affairs. ”
"I believe that from the publications of recent years you can pick out other similar narratives made by many people who are capable of making judgments, especially those who have experienced this transformation as citizens of the present totalitarian state, whose experience has forced them to revise many cherished beliefs."
"The complete collapse of the belief that freedom and equality can be achieved through Marxism has forced Russia to follow the same path that Germany has been following, that is, to a totalitarian, purely negative, non-economic, illiberal and unequal society. This is tantamount to saying that communalism and fascism are essentially the same. Fascism is a stage reached after communalism has been relegated to be an illusion, and communalism has likewise been proven to be an illusion. ”
The link between the two systems has become apparent to many who have recently observed the transition from socialism to fascism, and most people in a country still believe that socialism and liberty can be combined. There is no doubt that most of the socialists here are convinced of the liberal ideal of freedom, and they will turn back if they realize that the realization of their program will mean the destruction of freedom. Socialism, the great utopia of recent generations, is not only unattainable, but the struggle for it produces something so different that few of those who now have hope for it will be ready to accept such an outcome. No one will believe this association unless it unfolds in all its aspects. (To be continued)
