Chapter 652: The Suspicion of the Bead Gun

Lin Yiqing waved his hand, and an attendant stepped forward and threw a cowhide vest full of traps in front of Balchi.

"You always recognize this thing, don't you?" Lin Yiqing stared at Balchi and asked.

Seeing an iron box full of honeycomb holes on the chest of this cowhide vest, Barchi's body couldn't help but tremble.

"It's ...... My Brother's ...... Killing Needle...... Balchi suddenly raised his head, a fierce glint in his eyes, "What happened to your brother?" ”

"I killed him." Lin Yiqing replied calmly.

"Why did you kill him?" Barred asked viciously.

"He was going to kill my woman, so I killed him." Lin Yiqing replied.

"I see." Balchi was very clever and immediately understood, and a sinister smile appeared on the corner of his mouth.

"Good." Lin Yiqing nodded, "Since you guessed, I won't talk nonsense." As he spoke, he waved his hand, and one of his attendants stepped forward and opened a small wooden box, which contained small medicine bottles arranged in a neat row.

"You tell me which bottle is the antidote to the life-killing needle, and the use of the antidote, and I will let you and your men survive." Lin Yiqing said quietly.

"What if I don't say yes?" Barchi sneered.

"Then I will guarantee that you will die a very painful death." Lin Yiqing's voice was still very calm, but the people around him felt a chill when they heard it.

"I told you that you healed your woman, but I am afraid that you will kill me immediately." Balchi looked at Lin Yiqing with a smile, "Do you think I don't know the thoughts of you dog officials?" ”

"What I said. It never counts. Lin Yiqing's voice turned cold, "You have no choice. ”

"Hehe, that's what to say. Left and right are one death, we have nothing to talk about, come on! If it's a man, give me a good time! Barchi sneered.

Lin Yiqing stared at Balchi for a while, squatted down, silently picked up the vest, and pressed it gently.

A steel needle suddenly shot out of a hole in the tin box, and stabbed it straight into Balchi's shoulder.

Balchi obviously didn't expect Lin Yiqing to shoot himself with the poisonous needle left by his brother. He understood Lin Yiqing's intentions, and a pair of eyes flashed with horror.

Lin Yiqing stretched out his hand and pulled out the knife from the waist of his attendant. A knife cut the rope on Barchi's body, and the rope was loosened, but Barchi did not pounce on the medicine box to get the antidote.

"You ......" Bal Chi stared at Lin Yiqing deadly. It's like looking at a devil.

"The antidote is there. Do it yourself. Lin Yiqing sneered.

Balchi's body began to tremble, half out of fear, half from the onset of poison, and he shuddered and stretched out his hand to grab the medicine box, but before he could catch the medicine bottle, the strange change suddenly happened.

A shot suddenly shot was fired in the forest, and only a "whoosh" sound was heard. Balchi's head burst open, and his body slammed forward. Don't move.

Lin Yiqing was taken aback and took a step back, and two ninjas holding steel shields in front of him.

Qu Feipeng raised his gun violently and shot a shot in the direction where the bullet came, and at this time, Abkai suddenly rushed to the place where the "stolen goods" were placed, pulled out the Spitfire Bullet Gun, raised it and shot at the forest.

After Qu Feipeng fired two shots, he retreated to a tree to reload, while Abkai shot one shot at a timelium, Lin Yiqing couldn't help but be surprised when he saw this scene.

The gun in Abkai's hand was an ancient musket, but in front of the trigger there was a large disc with a wrench on it, and with each shot he fired he pulled the wrench, and in a few moments he fired a dozen shots.

Qu Feipeng loaded the bullet as fast as he could, raised the gun again to aim, Abukai's continuous bullets hit a tree in the distance, in the firelight, Qu Feipeng saw a running figure, and immediately shot out, and the figure fell in response.

At this time, the Bo cavalry also shot arrows into the forest, and after a rain of arrows passed, everything returned to calm.

"You guys, go over and have a look." Lin Yiqing waved his hand.

Several of the attendants answered and ran quickly into the forest.

Lin Yiqing looked at Balchi, who no longer had half of his braincase in front of him, sighed, closed the medicine box, and handed it to the entourage beside him.

By this time Abkai had emptied the magazine, and he ran to the "booty" again, rummaged through it, found a well-decorated box, opened it, took out a horn box inside, and began to fill the gun with gunpowder.

Lin Yiqing looked curiously at his charging action and this strange musket, and suddenly flashed in his mind.

Could it be that this is the pipa that has been talked about by countless patriotic fans in his original historical time and space?

"Your gun, show it to me." Lin Yiqing said to Abkai.

Abukai was shocked, his hands were a little trembling, he didn't dare to look at Lin Yiqing, but quickly glanced at Dai Peng as if asking for help, and saw Dai Peng nodding slightly to him, his heart was a little settled, he turned his head and bowed to Lin Yiqing, and said: "Wait a minute, after the medicine bullet is loaded, I will ask the lord for guidance." ”

Lin Yiqing saw his cautious appearance, smiled slightly, and nodded.

After a while, Abkai finished loading the ammunition and came to Lin Yiqing, knelt down on one knee, and solemnly presented the Flying Fire Gun to Lin Yiqing with both hands.

Lin Yiqing took this ancient musket with exquisite carvings and played with it, he quickly figured out the structure of this gun, and couldn't help but think of the controversy on the Internet about the "first machine gun in China" invented by Dai Zi in the early Qing Dynasty in China.

Dai Zi was a native of the early Qing Dynasty (1649-1726) and was known for his firearms making. History records that he has made "Lianzhu Fire Gun", "Pan Intestine Bird Gun", "Cupola Cannon" and so on, and among them, the Lianzhu Fire Gun is especially famous. At that time, there were many books and periodicals introducing Dai Zi, classifying his invention of the "Lianzhu Fire Gun" as a machine gun, and calling it the ancestor of modern machine guns. For example, in "Dai Zi, a firearms manufacturer in the early Qing Dynasty", it is said that it is "similar to modern machine guns", and "this kind of continuous bead gun is not only the first in China." It was a new weapon in the world at that time"; "Dai Zi, who invented the Lianzhu firecracker" said that "this firearm that can continuously fire projectiles is very similar to modern machine guns, and can be said to be the ancestor of modern machine guns"; A Military History of China? "Weapons" said when introducing Dai Zi's "Lianzhu Gong": "This kind of firearm similar to a modern machine gun had not yet appeared in the world at that time"; In the section "Guns of the Qing Dynasty" in "The Spring and Autumn Period of Dry Ge". He also believed that the Lianzhu Gun was a machine gun, and said that "Dai Zi's invention was more than a century earlier than Westerners". For a while, beautiful words flew all over the sky.

The authors of these articles all believe that the Lianzhu Musket is a machine gun, which raises a new question: the world's first machine gun is recognized as the invention of the British-American Maxim in 1883, and the Lianzhu Artillery Gun manufactured by Dai Zi is nearly two centuries earlier than the Maxim machine gun. Some people asked, is Dai Zi's Lianzhu fire gun a machine gun? If so, it would have been obvious that the invention of the machine gun would have been much earlier. This is an important issue in the history of the development of weapons.

Countries around the world have a common definition of machine guns, that is, machine guns are "automatic weapons". Automatic weapons refer to weapons that rely on the energy of gunpowder gases formed when firing to unpack and fire in bursts, that is, as long as the trigger of the firearm is pulled. You can shoot continuously until all the ammunition in the magazine is exhausted.

It can be said that the crux of the question is whether the Lianzhu firearm made by Dai Zi has the characteristics of an "automatic weapon". The earliest documentary record about Dai Quan is the "Notes on Reading Wei Caotang", of which Volume 19 "Luanyang Continuation (1)" records the conversation between Ji Yun and Dai Zi's descendant Dai Suitang. Suitang" said that he was a native of Zhejiang. Clever and clever in order to compete with Westerners. In Qintianjian, he and Nan Huairen were resentful, and then migrated to Tieling. Therefore, Mr. is a native of Tieling. When he was young, he saw that the first man made a bird's mirror, which was shaped like a pipa, and all gunpowder and lead pills were stored in the spine of the gun, and the wheel was opened and closed. There are two opportunities, such as a peony. When the first machine is triggered, the gunpowder lead pellet falls from the barrel, and the second machine moves simultaneously. The stone burst into flames. Twenty-eight rounds were counted, and the gunpowder and lead pellets were exhausted, and they needed to be restored. It is intended to be dedicated to the barracks, and a man in the night dreams of the day: 'God is a good life, if you offer this instrument to spread the world, your descendants will have no such thing.'" 'But fear and not give. When he said this, Gu his nephew Bingying Ri: 'Are you still in your family today? Take a look. His nephew said: "When he was studying in the household department, the son of the fifth brother stole the pledge money, and there was no way to investigate it. However, this device is also amazing. The article refers to Dai Quan as a "bird gun". In the "Qing Historical Manuscript", there is "Dai Zi's Biography", which began to be called "Lianzhu Fire Gun" when recording his events, and in addition to copying the record of the shape of this gun in the "Notes on Reading Wei Caotang", the book also came to the conclusion that "the law and the Western machine gun are combined".

From the record of "Notes on Reading Wei Caotang", it can be seen that Dai Gong has long been lost, and there is no physical object to examine. In the book, there is also "when one machine is triggered, the gunpowder and lead pellets fall from the barrel, and the second machine moves simultaneously, and the stone fires out and fires." Counting 28 rounds, gunpowder and lead pellets are exhausted", from the literal sense, there is a bit of an automatic weapon, so starting from the author of the "Qing Historical Manuscript", until later generations, they have come to the conclusion that Dai Gun is a machine gun.

However, some careful scholars, after examining the history of the development of firearms, believe that the conclusion that Dai Gun is a machine gun is illogical.

Even from a modern point of view, the machine gun is also a relatively complex mechanical system, which is the product of the development of firearms to a certain level, and is based on a certain level of scientific and technological development. In order to achieve the purpose of triggering a machine gun and firing continuously, it should have at least several technical prerequisites: first of all, it should be a rear-loading gun, that is, loading ammunition from the tail of the breech, and at the end of the 17th century, when Dai Zi made a series of firearms, Chinese and foreign armies were equipped with front-loading arquebuses or flintlock guns, and front-loading guns could not achieve continuous loading. Although there were also attempts to load the gun at that time, there was a great difficulty, that is, how to connect the moving tail of the gun and the barrel so that it was easy to open and close, and the problem was very difficult to solve at that time. As a result, the breech-loading rifle was not tested for a long time, and it was not until 1840 that the Prussian Dreisai was the first to successfully manufacture the breech-loading rifle.

Secondly, it should use fixed gun cartridges. At the end of the 17th century, arquebuses and flintlock muskets used bulk ammunition, that is, they were first loaded with a propellant, then a projectile, and then a primer at the fire gate, which could not achieve continuous fire. In the late 16th century, paper shells appeared in Europe in which the propellant and the warhead were wrapped together, but this was only to simplify the loading and control the amount of propellant more accurately, and the paper barrel had to be torn during reloading, and the gunpowder and projectile were loaded into the chamber of the gun. Therefore, it is not a fixed ammunition. The real fixed-loading cartridge appeared in France in 1812, where the bullet, propellant, and ignition powder (then called primer) were linked together in a paper cartridge case and loaded into the chamber from the tail. The reloading process is greatly simplified. After 1860, metal cartridge casings appeared, which further improved the air-holding performance of the cartridge case, and increased the strength of the cartridge case, preparing the conditions for continuous and rapid reloading of gun shells.

Finally, it should be a firing gun, otherwise it cannot trigger a fixed cartridge. This is because the cartridge places the primer inside the cartridge case. It cannot be started by fire rope and flint. At the end of the 17th century, there were no rifles in China or abroad. One hundred years later, in 1799, British chemists invented thundermercury. In 1805, General Fauci of the United Kingdom used thunder mercury as the initiating charge of gun bullets, and invented the fire method for bolts, which was used to hit thunder mercury with a hammer and let its flame ignite the propellant in the chamber. The breech-loading gun invented by Dresser in 1840 first used a firing pin device. It has a pin-shaped firing pin. Loaded in a sliding bolt, when firing, the firing pin penetrates the paper cartridge of the charge and, with its striking force, ignites the primer at the bottom of the firing bullet. After the invention of the firing pin gun, the flintlock pistol was quickly eliminated and the conditions were created for the emergence of automatic weapons.

All in all, it is only after these technical prerequisites that the machine gun can be invented. And these technologies only appeared after the 19th century. It is more than 100 years later than the era when Dai Zi made the Lianzhu Fire Hammer. Moreover, the machine gun itself must have a set of mechanisms for automatic loading, firing, shelling, and reloading, and these parts must be processed more precisely. The requirements for metal processing technology are high, which is also difficult to achieve in Dai Zi's time. Therefore, it is not in accordance with the law of firearms development to designate the Lianzhu firearm as a machine gun.

So what kind of gun is Dai Gong? If you only rely on the record of "Notes on Reading Wei Caotang", it is difficult to get the answer. But now the structure of this musket in Lin Yiqing's hand is very similar to the record in "Notes on Reading Wei Caotang"!

The total length of this gun is about 150 centimeters. The barrel is 60 cm long, the caliber is about 2 cm, the bolt is a flint firing device. On the butt there were magazines for cartridges and propellants. The magazine runs from the tail of the butt to the wheel, the inner wall is smooth, and the magazine is exactly 28 rounds of projectiles. There is a rectangular propellant compartment below the magazine, the lid can be opened and closed, the propellant compartment also has a hole leading to the wheel, and a rotating wheel is installed at the tail of the gun chamber, the wheel is slightly conical, and can be inserted into the cone hole of the gun body, and the fit is tight and there is no gap. There are two small circular grooves on the wheel, which coincide with the outlet hole of the magazine and the outlet of the propellant compartment, which are used to store projectiles and propellants. The left end of the wheel (the thinner end) has a square nut with a wrench on it, and a thin handle at the right end of the wheel, on which there is a powder slot, and the fire door is in the center of one end, and the fire door communicates with the propellant tank through the inside of the wheel. There are two upper and lower holes in the rear of the inner wall of the cone hole of the gun body, the upper part is the bullet hole, the lower part is the discharge hole, there is a hole in the front part of the inner wall of the cone hole of the gun body, that is, the bottom hole of the gun chamber, the bolt adopts the impact flint fire, the nose is sandwiched with flint, and there is a dozen fire sickles in front of the nose. There is a powder compartment in the middle of the bolt, and the upper cover is opened and closed, and the compartment is also in line with the powder tank on the thin handle of the wheel.

Before shooting, he first opened the round cover at the tail of the butt, loaded 28 round lead bullets in turn, and then opened the cover of the propellant compartment and the cover of the ignition magazine, and filled it with propellant and ignition powder. Align the small round grooves on the wheels with the discharge and discharge holes, tilt the muzzle slightly downwards so that the projectile rolls into the cartridge groove, and the propellant and ignition fill the charge groove respectively. The left hand pulls the wrench forward to rotate the wheel for half a circle, and the projectile enters the chamber first, and then turns forward to align the propellant tank with the bottom hole of the chamber, and then the ignition powder tank is also upward to be burned. Pull up the nose of the machine, and an iron hook connected to it will hook up the fire sickle in front of it, and it will be ready to fire. Aim at the target, pull the trigger, flint fire, ignite the gunpowder, and shoot the projectile out. Then the wrench continued to turn back for half a week to return the wheel to the position of loading ammunition, and so on, and 28 projectiles were fired in turn.

Compared with the gun in Lin Yiqing's hand, it can be seen that they are very similar in appearance and structure. Dai Gong is "shaped like a pipa", that is, the butt of the gun is pipa-shaped; "All gunpowder and lead pellets are stored in the ridge and opened and closed by a wheel", that is, the ammunition is stored in the butt of the gun and controlled by the rotation of the wheel; "There are two machines", that is, there are two bolts, a trigger and a wheel; "Similar to each other", the peony originally refers to the female and male animals, the ancient books also often refer to the reproductive parts of animals and even people, this sentence refers to the combination of the wheel and the gun body like the combination of male and female animals, the metaphor is very vivid, when later generations, in the machinery manufacturing industry, the "shaft hole matching" is often called "male and female matching"; "If you trigger a machine, the gunpowder lead pellet will fall from the barrel", that is, use a wrench to turn the wheel and put the ammunition into the chamber; "The second machine then moves simultaneously", that is, after the left hand triggers the wheel, the right hand triggers the head and bolt, instead of turning the wheel, and the bolt is automatically fired.

Judging from the current situation, this kind of gun is obviously to achieve the purpose of continuous shooting, so it is called "Lianzhu gun", but from the perspective of construction principle, it is fundamentally different from the machine gun, it is not an automatic weapon, and it cannot automatically complete the process of continuous shooting, so it is wrong to call Dai Gun, which is similar to this gun, "the ancestor of the machine gun" in later generations, and it is simply wishful thinking to put gold on the face of his ancestors.
