In 32 AD, when Liu Xiu commanded the Han army to crusade against Kui, Gongsun Shu sent his own general Li Yu and others to lead tens of thousands of soldiers to rescue Lao Kui.

Out of consideration for the cold lips and teeth, Gongsun Shu hoped that Lao Kui would resist Liu Xiu, otherwise he would be the one who was beaten.
