Chapter 6: Success and Failure (2)
In the first month of 191 AD, a key event occurred in the eastern part of the country, Han Fu and Yuan Shao secretly planned to support Liu Yu as the emperor, which was a fuse that directly led to the division of the princes of the eastern part of the country. As the leader of the alliance, Yuan Shao was supposed to lead the generals to punish the thieves, but he took the lead in planning to start anew. If you start your own little calculations here, the ambitious people over there will follow suit, so that the princes will fully and directly expose their selfishness. It can be said that what Yuan Shao and Han Fu did could not help but directly divide the alliance between the princes, and also led to further chaos in the general situation of the world. It's a shame that Liu Yuning can't give in, otherwise Gongsun Zhan would probably not be the first person to denounce, but him.
In February, Dong Zhuo was promoted to Taishi. Sun Jian moved his army to the east of Liang County, and Dong Zhuo sent Xu Rong to lead the army to attack and defeat Sun Jian's army. Subsequently, Sun Jian gathered his subordinates and stationed them in Yangren. According to the record of "Zizhi Tongjian", when Sun Jian marched to Nanyang, tens of thousands of people had gathered under his hands, and after nearly a year of training, his strength should not be underestimated. However, Xu Rong was able to defeat it, which shows that Xu Rong still has some ability to lead the army. However, I don't know what Dong Zhuo was thinking, so he didn't let Xu Rong continue to pursue Sun Jian, but instead sent Hu Zhen and Lu Bu to lead 5,000 cavalry to attack Sun Jian.
I looked at the map and found that the Yangren were in the northwest of Liang County, probably only a few dozen miles away. Xu Rong's troops were stationed in Liang County, and Dong Zhuo sent another army, and his intention should be to attack from the north and south and eliminate Sun Jian in one fell swoop. However, people never expected that Sun Jian's defeated army would easily win Dong Zhuo's winning army, which can't help but make people feel very puzzled, what is the reason for this? According to the history books, due to the discord between Hu Zhen and Lu Bu, the army was in chaos for no reason and was attacked and defeated by Sun Jian. Such a statement seems to be too perfunctory to make people imagine, and even the movements of Xu Rong's troops are not mentioned, which inevitably makes people still feel a little questionable.
Actually, we can extrapolate a little. First of all, why did Lu Bu disagree with Hu Zhen? I think it may be because of the bandit-like behavior of the Xiliang soldiers, which aroused the disgust of Lu Bu and other soldiers in the state. As we have said before, Bingzhou has been invaded by foreign races for many years, and those soldiers who are born in Bingzhou will inevitably hate the foreign races who invade their hometowns. From Cai Wenji's poems, we can learn that the Xiliang soldiers under Dong Zhuo are basically from Qianghu and other foreign races, and they started to burn, kill and loot soon after they came to the Central Plains, which will inevitably cause the disgust of a group of soldiers from the state. In this way, Lu Bu will be at odds with Hu Zhen, and it is not difficult to imagine the reason.
However, what happened to the chaos between the two of them in the army for no reason? I speculated a little, maybe it was the two groups of people because of some conflict, and they got into a big fight, which happened to be learned by Sun Jian, so he immediately led his troops to raid, defeated the two teams, and killed the governor Huaxiong under Hu Zhen's account. Personally, I think only this explanation is more reasonable, otherwise it is difficult to imagine how Sun Jian won.
At this moment, there must be people who wonder again, where is Xu Rong's troops at this time? This point is not written in the history books, but it is not without a trace. Don't forget, Sun Jian is not fighting alone, Yuan Shu, who occupies Nanyang, is behind Sun Jian at this time. Perhaps Xu Rongzheng was temporarily restrained by Yuan Shu's troops at this time, so he didn't have time to attack from behind Sun Jian. Perhaps it was for this reason that Dong Zhuo sent Hu Zhen and Lu Bu to support Xu Rong.
In addition, one more point. According to the record of "Zizhi Tongjian", Dong Zhuo sent Lü Bu to fight with Hu Zhen this time, and appointed Lü Bu as the cavalry capital. I checked it, and it seems that there was no official position of "riding capital" in the Han Dynasty, but there was a captain in riding the capital. For example, when Cao Cao went to fight the Yellow Turban earlier, he served as the captain of the cavalry. I think this may have been omitted by Sima Guang when he wrote history, but I don't know if he did it on purpose. If it was only at this time that Lü Bu was appointed as a cavalry captain, then the previously speculated view that Lü Bu was converted from Ding Yuan's main book to Dong Zhuo's main book can be established. In addition, Hua Xiong's position should not be the governor, but the captain. Although Huaxiong's position as governor comes from Chen Shou's "Chronicles of the Three Kingdoms", it seems that this position did not begin to appear until the Three Kingdoms period after the end of the Han Dynasty, so the possibility of misloading is not ruled out.
In fact, there are many details in the records in the history books that are worthy of questioning and scrutiny, especially the different contents of different historical records of the same historical event in different historical books, which are more worthy of questioning and scrutiny.
After the two were defeated, Dong Zhuo sent someone to win over Sun Jian, but Sun Jian sternly refused. Dong Zhuo's cowardice, if you won before, it seems that you have some grace to win him over, and what do you do when you defeat him, doesn't this act show that you are afraid? Even if it is for his own reputation, how can Sun Jian be willing to fornicate with you? What's more, Dong Zhuo has always been unruly in his dealings with etiquette, how can Sun Jian easily trust him. For Sun Jian, a person who is also ambitious, Jingzhou at this time was taken by Liu Biao from Xiangyang to the south, which made him lose the territory of Changsha that he originally owned, so it is particularly important to fight for a piece of territory.
After being rejected by Sun Jian, Dong Zhuo's prestige was undermined. As a result, the morale of Sun Jian's troops was boosted by this, and in such a situation, Dong Zhuo personally attacked, but was defeated by Sun Jian. As the saying goes, the decision of the coach will have an immeasurable consequence under special circumstances.
After Dong Zhuo was defeated and retreated, Sun Jian continued to march to the city of Luoyang, and at this time it was Lu Bu's troops stationed in the city. Even Dong Zhuo's troops were defeated by Sun Jian, how could they resist with Lu Bu's men? Therefore, defeat became a matter of course.
However, I can't help but ask another question. According to the record of "Zizhi Tongjian": At the beginning, when Dong Zhuo entered Hanguguan, he stayed in Henan Yin Zhujun to guard Luoyang, and Zhu Jun secretly conspired with the generals of Kwantung. Because he was afraid that Dong Zhuo would send troops to attack him, he led the crowd to flee to Jingzhou. Later, Dong Zhuo appointed Yang Yi, a Hongnong, as Henan Yin, and Zhu Jun led his troops back to attack Yang Yi, but Yang Yi was defeated and fled. Later, Zhu Jun saw that Luoyang was too dilapidated, so he moved east to Zhongmu County.
It can be seen from this information that after Dong Zhuo was defeated and retreated to the west, it should be Zhu Juncai who stayed in Luoyang, and Zhu Jun still secretly conspired with the Kwantung generals. If this is the case, then what happened to Sun Jian's march to Luoyang and defeat Lu Bu? And after that, Sun Jian also swept the royal temple, and found the jade seal of the country, and then divided his troops to Mianchi and Xin'an to continue to persecute Dong Zhuo. However, why is there no mention of Zhu Jun's stay in Luoyang?
Sometimes there are some doubts left in history books, perhaps because the person who wrote history was forced to adopt a hidden method for some reason, in order to leave a trace for future generations.
In this regard, I speculate that perhaps the situation at that time was like this: after Dong Zhuo was defeated and retreated, Yin Zhujun of Henan Province was left to guard Luoyang, and Lu Bu, the commander of the cavalry, assisted him. And Zhu Jun secretly conspired with the generals of Kwantung, so when Lu Bu led his troops to meet Sun Jian, Zhu Jun suddenly turned against and stabbed him in the back. Under the unfavorable situation of the enemy on his belly and back, Lu Bu had no choice but to lead the people to retreat. Later, Zhu Jun was worried that Dong Zhuo would send troops to attack him after learning about his defection, so he led the crowd to Jingzhou with Sun Jian.
