Chapter 8: Success and Failure (4)
A joke is a joke after all, and it cannot be taken as a fact without a conclusive basis. So, as long as it is used as an after-dinner conversation, it is fine.
Because Wang Yun had a very good relationship with Lu Bu, when Lu Bu went to see Wang Yun, he talked about how he was almost killed by Dong Zhuo. Speaking of which, the reason why Dong Zhuo was angry with Lu Bu was not necessarily because of Lu Bu's active apology. Perhaps it was because Lu Bu showed strong martial arts that he was shocked, and he would continue to rely on Lu Bu for his future security work, so Dong Zhuo expressed his attitude of calming things down in order to take into account the overall situation. Thinking that if there is a different person, based on Dong Zhuo's usual personality, even if he doesn't peel his skin and cramp, it is estimated that he will have to cut off his hands and ears in order to relieve the hatred in his heart.
When Wang Yun heard Lu Bu say this, he informed Lu Bu of his plan to plot against Dong Zhuo, and hoped that Lu Bu could make an internal response for them. In this regard, I can't help but wonder a little, how did Wang Yun, a scheming guy, so easily inform Lu Bu of the secrets related to everyone's lives? Isn't he afraid of being listened to by others, and then going to inform Dong Zhuo? Obviously, there must be a very key reason for this, which made Wang Yun inform Lu Bu so reassured. In my opinion, there are two reasons for this. First, Lu Bu himself disagreed with Dong Zhuo's style of acting, and for some reason he had to stoop to serve Dong Zhuo, but Wang Yun knew this very well; The second is that Lu Bu is very trustworthy, Wang Yun believes that Lu Bu will definitely not report this matter to Dong Zhuo, and even thinks that he will help him.
According to the records of historical books, when Lu Bu served under Ding Yuan, he was deeply trusted by Ding Yuan, and the original record is "Zhuo Yibu sees faith in Yuan". When he served under Dong Zhuo, he also won Dong Zhuo's trust, and the original record was "Zhuo Xingzhi often defended himself with cloth, and he loved to believe in it". Since this is the case, it shows that Lu Bu is a very good person, he is more dedicated and fair, so he can win the trust of his boss. At this point, Luo Guanzhong also thinks so. However, why did Lu Bu kill the people who trusted him? The crux of the problem naturally lies in the reason for the conflict between the two ideologies. The so-called "Tao is not the same" is a consistent view of Confucianism, and in fact it seems to be the case.
With Lu Bu's ability, he will not starve to death wherever he goes, and saying that he is mercenary, such an evaluation may be unfair, and others will not believe it. Therefore, since Chen Shou, most of the commentators have made a big fuss with the word "repeated".
In April, Emperor Xian of the Han Dynasty recovered from his illness and met with hundreds of officials in the Weiyang Palace. Dong Zhuo rode in in a court uniform, in addition to the strict guards on both sides of the road, there were also guards in front and behind Lu Bu and others. Wang Yun asked Shi Sun Rui to write the edict by himself and then handed it to Lu Bu. Lu Bu asked Li Su, Qin Yi and more than ten others to pretend to be guards and wait in ambush at Beiye Gate. As soon as Dong Zhuo's car entered the door, Li Su stabbed Dong Zhuo with a halberd, and because Dong Zhuo was wearing iron armor, he failed to hurt the vital point, only scratched his arm. Immediately, Dong Zhuo accidentally fell out of the car. At this time, Dong Zhuo hurriedly turned around and shouted, "Where is Lu Bu?" Lu Bu said: "There is an edict to beg the thieves!" Dong Zhuo immediately scolded: "Son of a bitch, you dare to do this-" Before he finished speaking, he was stabbed to death by Lu Bu with a spear. Then, Lu Bu urged the soldiers to step forward and cut off Dong Zhuo's head, and Dong Zhuo's chief bookkeeper, Tian Yi, and the servant and other three people rushed in front of Dong Zhuo's corpse to stop them, and they were all killed by Lu Bu. Then, Lu Bu took out the edict from his bosom and said to the officers and soldiers: "The emperor only punishes Dong Zhuo, and the rest of the people are not guilty!" After hearing this, the officers and men stood still and shouted long live.
This paragraph is the process of Lu Bu killing Dong Zhuo, and the original text is from "Zizhi Tongjian". As for that edict, it is not clear whether Lu Bu knew that it was only written by Wang Yun and them. If Lu Bu didn't know, it meant that he was probably deceived by Wang Yun in the name of the emperor. If he knew, it meant that he was a man who knew more about politics, and it was most appropriate to do such a thing under the pretense of the emperor's orders. And Dong Zhuo's death, after Emperor Han Xian found out, he didn't know if he was happy. It should be quite happy to think about it, and even this matter may have been tacitly approved by him in the first place.
Subsequently, Liu Xie asked Wang Yun to preside over the affairs of Shangshu. And appointed Lü Bu as the general of Fenwei, fake festival, the position of the third duke, added the title of Marquis of Wen, and took charge of the government together with Wang Yun. In terms of seniority, Lu Bu is actually a little shallow, at least he is not as good as Huangfu Song. However, Emperor Xian of the Han Dynasty wanted to appoint Lü Bu to take charge of the government with Wang Yun, and I have to say that this has something to do with Lü Bu's ability to govern. And this was also reflected in the later problem of dealing with Dong Zhuo's subordinates.
In the same month that Dong Zhuo was killed, two other people also died, one was Cai Yong (ancient as "Yong" or "壅"), and the other was Liu Dai. For these two people, those who want to come and know the Three Kingdoms know it, so I won't say anything. There is another thing that may not be clear to everyone, that is, earlier, Shangshu Zheng Tai, Huangmen Shilang Xun You and others also conspired to assassinate Dong Zhuo, but they were discovered by Dong Zhuo, except for Zheng Tai who escaped and defected to Yuan Shu, Xun You was arrested and imprisoned. Originally, Xun You was supposed to be executed, but it happened that Wang Yun and Lu Bu's plan was successful, so he was spared. This conspiracy to assassinate may be the reason why Dong Zhuo asked Lu Bu to guard him closely.
In May, Huangfu Song was appointed general of the chariot cavalry. In the same month, the court began to dispute over how to deal with Dong Zhuo's subordinates. Originally, before that, Lu Bu made a suggestion to Wang Yun, the original text of the history book is: Lu Bu persuaded Wang Yun to kill Dong Zhuo's tribe, and Yun said: "This generation is not guilty, no." ”
Lu Bu is very aware of the style of those Xiliang soldiers, Dong Zhuo couldn't restrain them when he was alive, and now that Dong Zhuo is dead, no one can restrain them, once they are given a chance to breathe, what are the consequences, I'm afraid no one can afford this responsibility. Judging from the series of messy incidents that occurred later, this suggestion put forward by Lu Bu is still more in line with practical needs, as long as all the generals under Dong Zhuo's original command are killed, they can deter the remaining Xiliang soldiers. But Wang Yun did not take this suggestion.
Lu Bu understood that Wang Yun's actions were digging a pit for himself, so in order to deal with the next unexpected situation, he planned to take out Dong Zhuo's property and reward it to the ministers of the court and the generals of the unified army, in order to be able to entrap the minds of these people. However, Wang Yun disagreed, which inevitably made Lu Bu a little angry.
Later, someone suggested to Wang Yun that Huangfu Song could be sent to command Dong Zhuo's old troops and stationed in Shaanxi County to restrain and pacify him. In this regard, Wang Yun's attitude is still disapprove. Regarding the person who made this suggestion, there is no clear record in the history books who it is, but I personally speculate that it may be Xun You. Because Wang Yun was stubborn and self-serving, made wrong decisions, and neglected the timing, Xun You felt that sooner or later there would be a big mess, so he abandoned the official and left the court. As for why it is not written in the history books, it is impossible to know, perhaps because I am afraid that it will cause a bad impact.
It didn't take long for rumors to spread in the city of Chang'an that the imperial court was going to kill all the people of Liangzhou, which further worsened the situation. But I don't know who spread this rumor. At this time, Lu Bu understood that he couldn't drag it out like this anymore, otherwise it would cause a collective riot among Xiliang's soldiers. So, Lu Bu didn't discuss with Wang Yun, so he directly wrote an edict and asked Li Su to take him to Shaanxi County to kill Niu Fu. Niu Fu was naturally unwilling to subdue the law, so he led the army to meet the attack and defeated Li Su, who fled back to Hongnong, but was then executed by Lu Bu.
Regarding Lu Bu's execution of Li Su, some people have raised objections. I personally speculated, I think it should be because Lu Bu did not discuss this matter with Wang Yun, which made Wang Yun feel very dissatisfied, and Wang Yun said before that these people could not be executed, so Wang Yun executed Li Su for violating the order, in order to give Lu Bu a warning. The history books say that Wang Yun has always regarded Lu Bu as a military general and does not want Lu Bu to interfere in court politics. In fact, the truth is not the case, it is all because of the exclusion of power, not because Lu Bu is just a military general who does not understand politics, so he does not want him to interfere in court politics. Therefore, the execution of Li Su was most likely an order given by Wang Yun, but later generations did not figure it out, but it was counted on Lu Bu's head, which made Lu Bu wronged.
