238 Ceylon Miscellaneous Notes
Since April, the navy of the Naval Resistance Force has been training and undertaking escort missions. After the First World War in Somalia, the army began to expand.
In October last year, when the Maritime Resistance Army moved from Shixiang Island to Tanggang, there were only a few battalions that were not fully formed.
After half a year of recruit training, the number of personnel in the army has been greatly increased. Li Guang's emotion is twofold: First, the army of the Naval Resistance Army has finally achieved his goal, and the front-line combat strength has exceeded 10,000. Second, in a country with a large population and resources, even if the Naval Resistance Force is overseas, the army is still the easiest to expand. It's much easier than the Navy and the Air Force.
In light of the current development trend, Li Guang readjusted and expanded the ground forces of the Naval Resistance Army.
First of all, the field battalion, which was expanded into a field regiment, tripled its strength to a total of 5,000 men (it will be full by the end of the year).
Among them, there are three three-company infantry battalions (temporarily less than the number of units), one three-company firepower battalion, and one three-company baggage battalion. A two-company engineer battalion. A regimental headquarters (company level).
The mountain battalion was also officially expanded into a regiment, but in addition to the three infantry battalions, this regiment had only one baggage battalion and one regimental headquarters. There are no fire battalions and sapper battalions. The total number is close to four thousand.
The Jungle Battalion was officially expanded into a Jungle Regiment with only three infantry battalions and one baggage battalion. The total strength was only 3,000 men.
Bai Chongfu's amphibious company was independent and expanded into a battalion of three companies, equipped with 48 landing craft. After the first battle in Somalia, the Naval Resistance Army discovered another element of the landing war, and the first batch of landing troops must not be less, and ammunition must not be less. After the research of the engineers, this amphibious battalion has a special equipment, specially equipped with a lot of manpower wheelbarrows, in fact, it is the kind of unicycles common in rural areas in China, but this kind of unicycle in order to adapt to the sand passing, specially used wide car rubber tires.
In the past few months, the development of technological arms has been faster than in the past year or so. Last year, the Navy's resistance army got 2,000 science and engineering students, and these students were divided up as soon as they arrived on Stone Statue Island. Among them, there are nearly 1,000 people who are physically fit to join the army, the navy accounts for one-third, the submarine forces, artillery, armored forces, and the air force divide the rest.
And more than 1,000 science and engineering students who were not able to enter the army were quickly looted out by various units.
In modern society, college students are everywhere, and Li Guang is not aware of the preciousness of 2,000 science and engineering students.
Li Guang hoped to recruit another 2,000 student soldiers before Japan launched a war against the United States, so that his planned fleet and air force would be truly fully manned.
But this wish was not realized. Even though the propaganda of the Naval Resistance Army had spread all over the Chinese circles in Southeast Asia, it still recruited less than 400 people. In Southeast Asia, the living standard of the Chinese is slightly higher than that in China, and the education level is slightly better. But in fact, in the education of this era, a college student can be called a high-level intellectual. The education of Chinese in this era, due to the imperial examination system for thousands of years and deep-rooted concepts, the proportion of college students studying liberal arts is as high as ninety.
Li Guang realized the country's backwardness from the difficulty of recruiting science and engineering college students. I also truly realized that these 2,000 students are a huge asset even for the whole of China.
And if Chairman Chiang had not been forced by the war situation, he would not have been willing to organize so many talents to provide to the Naval Resistance Army.
In this era, science and engineering students are simply the treasure of the treasures for China, the elite of the elite, and these students cannot have so many even if they search a relatively developed province in China, which is the foundation of China's future development.
After Li Guang realized the preciousness of this group of students, he even felt that if these students were really sent to the battlefield, then he, Li Guang, was not contributing to the country, but committing a crime. He made a lot of adjustments very quickly. All branches of the military, except for essential positions, try not to use college students.
Most of the college students were quickly assigned by Li Guang to various factories under the Naval Resistance Army, especially ships, submarines, torpedoes, explosives, artillery, diesel engines, and tanks, which were the most technical departments.
In addition, Li Guang also singled out three to four hundred science and engineering elites to specialize in several important research work, of which Plan A occupied the most talents, reaching 240 people.
For college students with development potential, Li Guang also selected more than 100 people to be sent to the United States for further study.
The arrival of more than 2,000 college students has filled many vacant positions in the Maritime Resistance Army. It also provided more assistance to the Naval Resistance Army in the years to come. That's their family.
Students who can go to university in China have families that are quite wealthy. A small landowner with one or two hundred acres of land simply cannot support a college student. The families of these students easily had an information connection with the Navy, then an economic connection, and then an inseparable whole. The influence of more than 2,000 wealthy families, in many places belonging to the local gentry and celebrities, and the help they provided to the Navy, was simply inexhaustible.
In fact, there are not many student soldiers who actually participate in the front line of the army, only less than 600 people. However, the improvement of the strength of these 600 people in the Naval Resistance Force is real.
Let's talk about the Air Force first, except for twenty or thirty college students who have become pilots. Seventy or eighty people were assigned to aircraft maintenance and auxiliary services. Many of the auxiliary services needed by the Air Force are really difficult to accomplish if they are not college students, such as meteorological staff officers, such as communications staff officers.
With sufficient maintenance personnel and logistical support, the current Air Force can finally produce personnel in a planned manner. About 10 pilots can be added every month, and it is expected that by the end of the year, the number of (first-line elite) pilots who can participate in air combat will reach 150. There will also be one hundred and fifty pilots in the second echelon. With the proficiency of these new college students, this rate may even be doubled.
In the same way, with the addition of university students, the armored battalion has lived up to its name. No longer a company of troops, guarding a whole bunch of tanks. In fact, there is no shortage of drivers in the armored battalion, and there is no shortage of gunners. Driving and shooting a tank is actually not very difficult, and a young man with a nimble mind can master it very skillfully in less than a few months.
However, the Naval Resistance Army was in dire need of maintenance personnel before, and according to the previous allocation of maintenance personnel, the dispatch of two companies of armored troops was already the limit.
After receiving sixty science and engineering students, the armored battalion truly lived up to its name. In the establishment, although it is still called an armored battalion, it is already an establishment at the level of a deputy regiment. The battalion had six armored companies and six heavy engineer companies. The total number of troops is 2,500, of which the number of combat units and logistics personnel has reached 1 to 1, and they have complete combat effectiveness.
The mixed artillery battalion was also a big change, and there were originally only two companies with combat effectiveness. The problem with the artillery battalion is not that there are not enough artillery, but that there is not enough except artillery. However, after acquiring sixty college students, there were enough artillery staff officers to organize sixty or seventy artillery platoons, not to mention anything else. (The Navy's resistance army has four guns in one artillery platoon, and some have two guns.) After knowing the contents of artillery technology, these college students will be able to take up the role of artillery staff officers within a few months, and they will have mastered a fairly high level of knowledge necessary for artillery staff officers, such as formulating and calculating shooting elements and working on maps, and in time these people will surely become the backbone of the artillery battalion.
The five artillery batteries of the artillery battalion, after other conditions are met, it is not a problem at all to become five artillery battalions. In the future, if five artillery regiments are formed, even the five artillery divisions will have a talent base. (By the way, in World War II, the Soviet Union used tactics of large-scale artillery, in fact, because of the lack of artillery talents, a mature artillery commander often has to command dozens of artillery pieces, and it is not unusual for a regiment to have only one artillery staff officer who can formulate a shooting element, and its gunner is only responsible for manual activities such as loading shells.) In fact, the artillery battalion of the Naval Resistance Army was no worse than that of an artillery division in Germany or the Soviet Union.
As for the navy, departments that must have a high degree of education, such as chief navigator, torpedo chief, chief engineer, and gunnery staff officer, have suddenly increased the number of reserve personnel, and many warships have double or even four posts.
All this is worth it, according to the ship-building plan of the Naval Resistance Force, these personnel are far from enough.
