Germany's military arrangements were generally carried out as scheduled in accordance with historical arrangements, and the entire Polish campaign was marked by the variable of Zhang Jun's SS First Panzer Corps.
It can be said that it can be said that it is not, the most important battle of the Polish campaign in history was the Battle of Warsaw.
What is the history of the Battle of Warsaw?
Warsaw is the capital of Poland, bordered by the Vistula River to the west, and is politically, economically, and militarily important. For the Germans, the rapid capture of Warsaw could deal a heavy blow to the Polish army's morale and will to resist, and was conducive to a quick victory in the campaign.
Just a week after the outbreak of the war, on September 8, 1939, the vanguard of the German 4th Panzer Division had arrived under the city of Warsaw. According to common sense, the Polish defenders of Warsaw were in a hurry, unprepared, and already showing signs of retreating eastward. Normally, the best strategy was to allow the Polish army to withdraw from Warsaw and encircle it again, but the Germans did not raid the city by surprise, but instead made a detour to surround it and then advance eastward, causing the Polish army to resist desperately, and the Germans did not conquer the city until September 28, 1939. Of course, there was an element of heroic resistance from the Polish army, but more importantly it was Hitler's intervention, which many may overlook.
On September 9, 1939, the day after the arrival of the Germans under Warsaw, Hitler issued Order No. 3 to prepare the army and air forces attacking Poland to be transferred to the Western Front. It turned out that on this day, the French 4th Army on the Western Front launched a tentative attack on the German army, and Hitler was very worried that this was a prelude to a large-scale offensive by the other side. In order to prevent a two-front battle, Germany, as a company, needs to conserve its strength, especially the strength of the armored forces and the air force, so that it can quickly move westward if the situation is urgent. However, until the intentions of the French army were clarified, the German army should not be transferred to the Western Front, and could only be in a state of readiness.
At the same time, for the German army, it is also necessary to prepare for the fact that it will still have the strength to rely on the remaining troops to defeat the Polish army after the transfer of troops to the west, which requires it to seize the time before the transfer to encircle and annihilate the Polish army as much as possible, so as to reduce the pressure of the confrontation between the Polish army on the eastern front in the future. If the Polish defenders of Warsaw were allowed to withdraw eastward, it would be difficult for the Germans to ensure that they could catch up with and annihilate the 120,000-strong force before moving westward, and the French army's actions on the 9th were clearly aimed at the arrival of the German army in Warsaw at night on the 8th. The German army's strategy of encircling Warsaw without restraint should be said to be quite clever, on the one hand, it was conducive to stabilizing the French army, and on the other hand, it could buy time to annihilate more Polish troops.
It was for this purpose that the Germans blocked the Polish army, which was preparing to retreat eastward, back to Warsaw, and abandoned the victory of the rapid capture of Warsaw, and turned eastward in order to annihilate more Polish troops and their new corps, and lay the foundation for the final victory. Sure enough, a few days later, on September 12, 1939, according to the instructions of the British and French tops, the French offensive was stopped. On September 13, 1939, German troops approached the Brest Fortress. This time, the Germans reversed the previous siege of Warsaw and did not resist it, but concentrated their forces to conquer the city after four days, and then formed a siege of all the Polish troops west of the Bug River.
In the process of conquering the fortress, in order to prevent the French from launching another offensive and the lack of troops to attack the fortress due to the pinning down of the Polish army in Warsaw, the German army requested the Soviet Union to send troops on September 15, 1939. Two days later, on September 17, 1939, the Soviet Belorussian Front (with the 3rd, 4th, 10th, and 11th armies, as well as the cavalry mechanized regiments and the 23rd Separate Infantry Corps) and the Ukrainian Front (under the 5th, 6th, and 12th armies) marched into eastern Poland under the command of Kovalev and Timoshenko, respectively. This action immediately pinned down and attracted more than 300,000 troops east of Brest, so that the Germans also quickly conquered the fortress.
Of course, another reason why the Germans asked the Soviet Union to send troops was also related to the Battle of Warsaw. Due to the pinning down of the Polish army in Warsaw, it was difficult for the Germans to capture Brest. Moreover, from this battle, the German army also had a keen insight into the difficulties of attacking eastern Poland: the Polish army in eastern Poland still had more than 300,000 people at this time, and the north-south distance in eastern Poland was much longer than that in western Poland, and continuing to advance eastward was bound to greatly lengthen the front, and the total strength of the German army was insufficient, not only was it difficult to quickly annihilate the remnants of the Polish army, but also because it was getting farther and farther away from the western front, it would be impossible to transfer a large number of troops to the west in time. Obviously, it would be better to ask the Soviet Union to send troops to help.
When the fighting in eastern Poland ended on 25 September, a demarcation line was agreed upon, and the Germans launched a general attack on Warsa and soon captured the city. This fully shows that the Germans left the Polish army in Warsaw in the late stage of the campaign not really because of the lack of troops or the strength of the Polish army, but in order to annihilate more of the Polish army's vital forces and facilitate the westward transfer. It was precisely in the more than 10 days obtained by this that the German army annihilated the main force of the Polish army east of Warsaw and west of the Bug River, and achieved a huge advantage over the Polish army. In this way, even if the main force is transferred to the west on the Western Front, the remaining army can calmly deal with the remaining Polish army, and the danger of fighting on two fronts is basically eliminated. Otherwise, the German army may not be able to annihilate the main force of the Polish army, nor can it prevent the serious consequences of the French army being caught between the Polish and French armies in the event of a large-scale attack.
From the analysis of the historical Warsaw Campaign, the deployment of the German army is also completely correct, and has achieved great success, and now there is Zhang Jun, the "-stirring stick", in the case of basically eliminating the German two-sided battle, it took a day to break through several lines of defense of the Polish army in a row, and the troops were under the city of Warsaw, of course, this has the factor that Zhang Jun wants to test the troops through the Polish campaign, and the other factor is Zhang Jun's selfishness, because Zhang Jun has not yet made war exploits in Germany and is in a high position, which has caused the dissatisfaction of others. Therefore, Zhang Jun must make great achievements in the Polish campaign, if Zhang Jun is still indispensable in the situation of absolute superiority in the Polish campaign, then the protagonist is a waste of a crossing indicator, and this strategy is also arranged by Hitler.
……
It was already the evening of September 1, six days earlier than in history, and Zhang Jun and Rommel were still talking softly, and instead of a pencil, a piece of bread and a cup of tea and boiling water, they were sipping bread and tea.
"Ahem, ahem...... General Rommel, we have also analyzed all the circumstances, the reason why our Guards are running 300 kilometers in such a short period of time, that is, the SS is a new army, and now it is not favored by the Wehrmacht guys, and even looked down on by those guys, saying that we are just standing guard, and now we are going to show great military might, make the enemy fearful, and let everyone know that the German SS represents victory and death. ”
"Commander, I completely agree with your point of view, the 1st Panzer Army of the SS Army represents victory and death, crushing all the enemies who dare to block the advance of our army to pieces, and the 1st Panzer Army of the SS will win 10,000 victories, and Germany will win."
Zhang Jun looked at Rommel with a smile on his face, feeling the changes of Rommel over the past year, originally Rommel was a very strict Wehrmacht colonel, after "fooling around" with Zhang Jun, a slippery German Chinese, he also began to become fanatical and oily, it seems that our later famous general "Desert Fox" was taken by the protagonist.
"Yes, my general, I am also convinced that our SS is capable of crushing all enemies, and now the opportunity is in front of us, victory is not far ahead, my general, will you fight with me to the end? All for victory, all for Germany. ”
"Commander, being able to fight side by side with you is the honor of my pride in this life, even if I become a pile of skeletons, I will fight to the death."
After eliminating the things in their hands, Zhang Jun and Rommel began to nervously formulate a campaign battle plan, first Zhang Jun and Rommel worked out a large framework, handed it over to hundreds of operational staff officers to improve, and when the perfect battle plan was sent to Zhang Jun and Rommel, the two carefully scrutinized, reviewed and revised it, and after confirming that it was correct, they handed it over to the operational staff staff for study, and after confirming that it was correct, Zhang Jun could sign it at this time, indicating that the battle plan had been approved for implementation.
Throughout the process, Germany's highly qualified staff officers played a very important role, so high-quality staff officers are an invaluable treasure for every army.
The battle plan drawn up by Zhang Jun and Rommel was not very complicated, the "Skeleton Division" attacked due north of Warsaw in a pincer formation, the "Imperial Division" attacked due south of Warsaw in a pincer formation, and the "Viking Division" attacked Warsaw from due east.
The goal of the "Skeleton Division" and the "Imperial Division" was to cut off Warsaw, and then the three SS Panzer Divisions completely surrounded half of Warsaw and encircled it with all their might. The other "Prinz Eugen Division" is the reserve mobile unit.
……
Hitler, who returned to the office, sat on the sofa decadently, and Hitler, who felt physically and mentally exhausted, rang the bell, and soon a guard asked the great Führer what arrangements he had, and Hitler just told the guards to bring Zhang Jun back to Germany to call the Chinese medicine doctor, and now Hitler has completely liked Chinese medicine, if he is not feeling well, let the Chinese medicine massage it, or prick it with a long silver needle, and his spirit will immediately be much better.
Hitler's hands will tremble when he is angry or excited, that is the precursor of Parkinson's disease, if this disease is completely attacked, it is not curable, and there is no special medicine to cure this disease, but Zhang Jun brought back the traditional Chinese medicine from China, in conditioning, the treatment of Parkinson's disease has a good effect, the current Hitler is much better than the historical Hitler's health, if it is not for Hitler's favorite "little radish head" may be dangerous, Hitler will not have this huge emotional fluctuations.
The guards hurriedly went to call a Chinese medicine doctor, and Hitler took out a yellowed photo from his jacket pocket, which was a photo of the young Hitler holding Zhang Jun as a child, seeing this photo, Hitler's mood suddenly relaxed a lot, and there was a smile in the corner of his eyes, his face was full of kindness, and at the same time, he could hear Hitler's muttering:
"My little turnip, you're a genius of war! How can you risk your life, don't you know that Germany needs you, I need you? You must be safe! ……”
