Chapter 1: The Apocalypse
Looking at Lorenz from afar. Colonel Bach got into the submarine through the command hatch, Lynn's mood was somewhat relieved, but he quickly became worried: this cutting-edge large submarine should have the ability to sail to the sea, but the three next to it seem to be just ordinary submarines, maybe they have been thrown into the Atlantic Sea to break the battle, but in addition to the necessary submarine crews, the number of crew members that can be carried is probably not too much. Looking around, there are still hundreds of tankmen, armored car drivers, and combat infantry in the armored column, and everyone can board the boat and leave?
Regardless of where these submarines end up, they are safer under the surface than on land. Calculating that it was April 29th, two days before the fall of Berlin, and only two weeks before the surrender of Germany, Lynn felt that even if these tanks and vehicles and the equipment they carried were left to their own choice, the tired body and mind could not afford to gamble!
Moments later, a young and well-rounded SS captain stood beside the transport submarine and shouted "Assemble the Guards," and more than twenty SS soldiers quickly gathered around him. After counting the numbers, the captain told the soldiers to unload their excess belongings and board the submarine lightly, and the sailors on board were very cooperative in guiding the FΓΌhrer-wearing flag into the inner compartment through the hatches at the front and rear of the deck.
After the SS captain boarded the boat, the officer standing in the command compartment of the submarine ordered the sailors to untie the cables attached to the dock piles, and it seemed that the underwater vehicle in the best condition was "full". After a few moments, hearing only the sound of the water but not the roar of the diesel engine, the large, modern-looking submarine slowly sailed away from the dock, and the crew on it quickly entered the boat along the hatches. Seeing such a scene, Lynn's anxiety intensified, and he kept looking around, hoping to find Motchig or Ziggenk, but they had not been seen since the armored column arrived at the port, could it be that they had been sent on other missions halfway?
The big submarine was still slowly navigating the harbor, and another SS officer stood next to the second, ordinary-looking submarine, his right arm raised, and he shouted "Armored battalion assembled" - which still had nothing to do with Lynn. The tankmen in black armored uniforms were moved by the news, and compared to the previous combat infantry, they had far fewer belongings with them, only a few men carried submachine guns, and the others had a crossbody backpack, presumably stuffed with some necessary household items and personal belongings, but at the ratio of four to five men per tank and two to three people per armoured vehicle, there were still fifty or sixty people in the group.
As usual, the number of people was counted, and the Waffen-SS major, who was about thirty years old, arranged: "The third company and the battalion headquarters are on this submarine, the first and second companies are on the front one, and the second company and three platoons are also on this one!" β
These instructions sounded a bit round, but the armorers were not at all confused and lined up to board the boats, and in this way the two submarines were occupied. At the same time, another SS lieutenant appeared next to the fourth and last submarine currently next to the dock. Lynn narrowed her eyes, it was a familiar face, and her heart jumped with a small joy, and then she heard the officer shouting "Commando assemble", and several soldiers with night vision equipment immediately withdrew from the outer cordon. Seeing this, he could no longer hold back, ignoring the pain of the wound, and limped over on his right foot.
"Sir, I'm Lynn. Sergeant Gargo, 'Vampire' commando, my soldiers and I were previously part of the 167th Combat Group of the 4th Night Combat Group, and then incorporated into the 11th Night Combat Task Force in Berlin, and joined this escort unit on the orders of Colonel Bach. β
After listening to Lynn's words, the SS lieutenant grinned and said, "Sorry, man, I got the order to take the soldiers of the 1st Commando Team on the submarine and nothing else!" β
"But ......," Lynn was about to explain, but was inadvertently bumped by the soldier walking by, and immediately staggered back two steps, and the wound on his thigh suddenly tore like pain.
The lieutenant hurriedly stepped forward to support him, but he still said in a weak tone: "I'm sorry, man, I'm just acting on orders!" β
There were only a dozen soldiers left in the night commando at this time, but about half of them carried infrared night vision equipment with them, so after all the soldiers and two medics had boarded the boat, the lieutenant asked the sailors to remove the pedals. Although Tanze reluctantly walked to his side to support him, Lynn felt lonely, as if he was being abandoned by this ruthless world.
The second submarine had already started its diesel engine, and the stern was foaming white, and the third submarine was close behind, and it seemed that the fourth submarine was about to depart. At this moment, Motchig's voice came from afar: "Hey, Lynn, Lynn! β
Lynn hurriedly turned around, and saw his "lucky star" getting down from an armored command vehicle parked next to the pier, and his anxious mood calmed down a lot, and then looked around the pier, there were still many SS soldiers who came here with the armored column.
Considering that Lynn was injured, Motchig trotted over and whispered to him, "There are two submarines that have been delayed halfway through, and they are rushing this way, so ...... We'll have to wait! β
"Are there two?" Lynn roughly estimated that there were still thirty or so people left, and it would be more than enough to house them with two submarines. It seems that the people who arranged the retreat route by sea did not expect such casualties along the way.
"If nothing else," replied Motchige...... "are two combat submarines, which have arrived from Denmark and may have encountered enemy patrol planes on the way!" β
"Oh!" Lynn sighed slightly, "I thought we were abandoned!" β
Motchig smiled bitterly and laughed at himself: "Hey, it's possible that a useless person like me will be abandoned, and you are now the pride of the entire SS!" β
Lynn thought for a moment and described it in a not-so-authentic way, "It's just an artificial hero, right!" β
"Propaganda you say?" Motchig shook his head, "Then I'd rather be chosen!" β
Lynn had no intention of further studying this question, and taking advantage of the special atmosphere, he asked in a low voice, "Dude, can you tell me the answer to that question now?" What we protect is ......"
Motchige looked at Tanze beside Lynn with some vigilance, and saw that the young soldier was still childish, so he nodded slightly: "This, it's true." The one in Berlin, it's a fake! β
Really!
The long-suppressed doubts were finally answered, and Lynn seemed to have gone through a long tunnel and saw the sky again, and her eyes suddenly opened up. At this time, Major Ziggenke also stepped down from the armored command car, and Motchig didn't say much, but pretended to take out a cigarette case from his pocket and gave Lynn one, but didn't ask Tanze next to him if he wanted it or not.
"We forgotten people!" Ziggenke said in a strange tone, and when he came to Lynn's side, he said mysteriously: "If the submarine does not come, we will be martyred here collectively for the great FΓΌhrer and the great Germany!" β
"It should come!" Motchig said this as if to comfort himself.
Ziggenke turned his head to look to the east, and the sun had risen, and it would be a good sunny day.
"Look at this wonderful world, what a pity, but we will be forgotten by this world!"
Lynn was puzzled: "Sir, why do you say we will be forgotten?" β
Ziggenke did not answer, he looked at the open sea with emotion: "In this cruel war, how many fallen soldiers were hastily buried without leaving their names!" If we disappear, our families will be buried forever in the ruins of Berlin! β
Lynn couldn't answer, and when he turned his head to see the empty tanks and armored vehicles around the docks, he suddenly felt that he understood Ziggenke's words a little - if the Allied troops arrived here and saw empty tanks and abandoned equipment all over the ground, they would be surprised and would struggle with the answer, but they would only be able to think of an explanation that was easy for the public to accept, but it might be far from the truth!
Following Lynn's gaze, Motchig also looked at the chariots, thinking that Lynn was feeling sorry, so he said, "In half an hour, General Wink's troops will come and take over these weapons!" β
Lynn nodded, this can be regarded as a good use.
A quarter of an hour later, hordes of Allied warplanes appeared in the nearby airspace, apparently to avenge the humiliation of the German eagles in the morning. The German jet fighters actually took to the air decisively to meet the battle, and although there were only four of them, they still fought a fierce and wonderful air battle with the "Mustang" more than ten times their size. Watching the German pilots fly the Warhawk like a newborn calf through the Allied fleet, shooting down one enemy plane after another, and finally being hit by the enemy, Lynn's mentality quietly changed. Most of the aces of air combat have fallen, and most of the young pilots who are fighting are now fighting with little experience, but that's not the most important thing. The point is that everyone knows that the situation is irretrievable, and that the fall of the empire is only a matter of time, and it is better to bloom in the most brilliant moment than to watch it collapse in despair.
Although the battle was fierce, the disparity in numbers set the melody early, and by the time the third jet fighter was shot down by the Allies, the Luftwaffe's stubborn resistance was crushed, and the last "Swallow" retreated alone to the east, with a large herd of "Mustangs" in pursuit. Suddenly, several balls of light that shone like the sun flew from the southeast at a rapid speed. They did not fire directly at the Allied planes, nor did they use savage ramming tactics, but drifted near and far, approaching from the side or behind the "Mustangs" in a cold manner, and then climbed away at great speed. The formation of the Allied fighter group was disorganized, and it was evident that the pilots were frightened by the strange and strange flying object. After a while, most of the "Mustangs" turned around and returned home, and only a few of them tried to entangle with each other. These balls of light seem to be able to see through people's minds, and they detach eastward at high speed, leaving those clumsy "wild horses" behind in the blink of an eye.
Although she had seen the saucer up close, Lynn was still dumbfounded. Isn't this what some U.S. military pilots describe UFOs? Where is the tension that causes the illusion, these unimaginable things are real and have a great connection with the Third Reich!
Because Ziggenke was present, Lynn didn't ask Motchig questions, but kept them silently in his heart. After another half hour, there was a sudden noise in the calm harbor. Just like the scene in Pirates of the Caribbean when a ghost ship emerges from the bottom of the sea, a pitch-black submarine emerges, and then the crew appears on deck and raises a small German naval battle flag at the back of the conning tower cabin.
