Chapter XII: The Trial and the Taking
At half past two in the morning, the cadet dormitory
Ferrante held the magic scroll in her arms and glanced at Cassia who was sitting cross-legged beside her.
To open or not to open, that's the question.
But Sost was angry or not, and Cassia decided that it wasn't a problem.
Just as the two saw the affirmation in each other's eyes, Ferrante had already untied the scroll with one hand, and there was a sudden knock on the door of the dormitory.
Cassia subconsciously snatched the scroll the length of his forearm and tucked it into the gap of the couch, as Sost had never been in the habit of knocking on doors.
Ferrante came back to his senses and got up to open the door, and instead of a gentle gentleman's greeting, a team of strangers in black trench coats broke into the dormitory, and it seemed that they knew that they were well-trained, and soon occupied various key positions in the dormitory.
They wore daggers at their waists, but they didn't mean to draw them, but held in both hands a strange metal object, like a doorknob, like a banana.
Ferrante was pushed back to the edge of the couch by the crowd, the sound of moccasins hitting the floor sounded, and Kvass, with a wooden cane, walked into the dormitory, visibly taken aback when he saw Ferrante.
"President Kvass?"
Kvass nodded, not intending to say hello, but asked, "Sost lives here?"
"Yes, but he's out tonight. ”
“...... Then I'll trouble you. ”
"Wait, Mr. Kvass, what's going on?"
Seeing that the strangers around him had the intention of surrounding, Cassia asked first.
"Sost is suspected of breaking into the sixth floor of the Great Library without permission to steal books and killing a president of the Gewu Society, which has intervened in the investigation. ”
"What!?"
"Don't worry, it's just a simple inquiry, Gewuhui is not a church inquisition. ”
Kvass comforted the two, in his eyes, they were still just children, especially his impression of Ferrante was not bad, but the process that should be followed still had to be followed.
At his signal, the surrounding people gathered, Cassia and Ferrante looked at each other, and followed Kvas out of the dormitory.
The unnatural death of a president of the Gewu Society is no less than the assassination of a king.
Along the way, Cassia and the two obviously felt that the atmosphere on the street was not quite right, and the patrolling guards were on duty on the street in waves.
The headquarters of the Gewu Society is on the left side of the Avos Academy, and on the right is the Hall of the City of Evos, but it has little presence.
It's not the first time Ferrante has been here, and the buildings carved with gears and levers always give a sense of wit and mystery.
The two were sent into a small two-story building by a group of people, and when they entered, only President Gervass led the way.
"Don't be nervous...... "Kvas reassured.
The hall on the first floor of the bright hall brings a little warmth, and the surrounding area is filled with flowers that the two have never seen before, exuding a charming fragrance.
On the wall in front of the hall, a circular vintage wall clock larger than a bed struck the chime, three o'clock in the morning.
Like the sound of a bronze bell hitting the two of them, Ferrante, who was already a little addicted to the fragrance of flowers, his eyes were even more blurry and cloudy, while Cassia on the side was extremely sober.
There is a problem!Cassia quickly looked around, his brow furrowed, and pretended to be Ferrante's example.
Kvass nodded, and led the two into the side room, into a staircase that led to the basement.
Walking down the stairs is a long passageway, with iron doors on both sides of the passage, and there are no windows to peep into.
The three of them walked all the way, and as they passed through the iron gates, the sound of manic slapping and the terrifying laughter came from behind the different doors, and some of the entire doors were covered with frost.
The most normal door is unremarkable, but soap bubbles keep popping up from the cracks of the door, bursting in the air.
As he passed through the last door, Thorst's voice came from within, loudly defending himself, but Kvas ignored it and led the two into the room at the end.
The furnishings in the room are simple, three chairs, a table, candles all over the walls.
Kvass placed a pocket watch on the table and looked at the two with a smile.
Cassia could barely maintain his disguise, as it was Sost's pocket watch, but it looked like the glass on the surface had shattered.
Then Kvas asked the two of them question by question, and made detailed records.
Most of the questions were about what happened after coming to Avos Academy, and the answers were the same.
But when Gervass mentioned Sears City, Ferrante, who had nothing to hide, suddenly stopped, kept silent, and the confusion in his eyes gradually turned into madness mixed with guilt.
The sober Cassia hurriedly replaced Ferrante and answered the question with some concealment.
It wasn't until the hands of the pocket watch pointed to six o'clock in the morning that Kvas put away the notebook and looked up to ask one last question.
"Have you ever been in the Great Library?"
"Nope. Cassia replied.
Ferrante on the side was in a daze, as if he was about to faint.
Kvas bowed his head, got up and walked to the two, touched the top of Ferrante's head, and frowned: "Poor child." ”
......
......
When the two woke up again, they were back on the couch in the dormitory, Cassia remembered everything about last night vividly, while Ferrante had a slight deviation.
In his recollections, the two entered the small building, went to the basement, and heard Sost's defense through an iron door, and had no memory of the other iron doors.
Eating the afternoon tea he had just bought, Cassia didn't break him, thinking to himself that as soon as he walked into that small building, Ferrante had already been tricked, but why was he okay?
"Damn! Sost, what the hell is he going to do?"
"I don't think he's a random person. Cassia took a sip of his coffee.
Indeed, while Sost was a bit odd with him, Ferrante didn't think he would kill a leader of the Gewu Society, and he wasn't necessarily capable of killing him.
Ferrante quickly calmed down, and opened the gap in the couch to see the magic scroll inside.
"We're going to go to the Gewu Club again, and at least see Sost in person. Ferrante said with a frown.
"No!" Cassia put down his coffee, "we should go out and find him now." ”
"He's not locked up in ......"
"Have you seen him with your own eyes? only a pocket watch and a voice that is not entirely sure, do you remember what Sost said to you......?
Ferrante was stunned, thinking carefully about what happened last night, although the 'interrogation' part was vague, but Cassia seemed to have some sense.
"Another point, if Sost was caught red-handed, there is no reason why there would be so many patrolling guards on the streets, I just went out to buy food, and there is still martial law outside. ”
......
......
It's been a week since Sost's disappearance, and Avis is still under martial law, which makes Ferrante even more convinced of Cassia Assertion.
Sost escaped.
In the tavern outside the academy, Cassia and Ferrante sat in the corner, drinking cheap and low-quality ale.
According to him, this is a habit of contamination with the great paleontology instructor of Solan College, and it tastes good after drinking it for a long time.
"Do you think he's already leaving Evos. ”
"Probably not, the magic scroll is still in our hands, and he has to say hello even if he leaves, this is his lifeline, isn't it?" Cassia said, shaking his head.
"But how are we going to find him?"
Cassia took a deep breath, and he didn't know how to answer the question.
In the evening, the two left the tavern together, and as they passed the counter, they suddenly heard the tavern owner scolding and throwing a stone on the ground.
"What bastard, don't let me catch it!"
The stone fell to the ground, and Cassia, who had been more careful since his amnesia, suddenly stopped and picked up the stone.
On the back of the stone, a simple balance pattern is clearly visible, and after inquiry, it turned out that a guest took advantage of the boss's turn and paid the stone as a gold coin.
Cassia gave Ferrante a look, and unconcernedly, threw the stone into the cesspool, mixing it with the drinker's vomit.
Back in the dormitory, Ferrante finally couldn't help but speak: "He's really still here!"
"Don't make a noise, just act as if nothing happened, and he'll be sure to contact us again. ”
In the middle of the night, the sleeping Cassia suddenly woke up, and although autumn brought cooling, it was not so cold, and the water cup on the bedside table actually froze.
Subconsciously picked up the match and wanted to light the candle, but the moment the fire flashed, a cold air rushed straight to the heavenly spirit cover of cassia Ming.
By the flash of a match, Cassia saw a familiar tall figure floating quietly at the door of the room, the black mist churning under his feet.
I don't know if it's a devil or a ghost, but here it comes again.
"Dear you, don't waste your time here. The tall figure said abruptly.
Cassia Ming's thoughts were like electricity, and he understood the situation in an instant, the match went out, and he simply talked to the other party in the dark.
"My friend is in trouble. ”
"Friend, you actually have friends?" said the tall figure with a mocking tone, "I can only blame him for his bad luck." ”
"What do you mean!"
"Take him with you, you can't do without Evos City, Gewu will be stronger than you think, unless you ......"
"Unless what?"
"Unless you get your due. ”
"What do I deserve?" Cassia was confused.
"It's on the seventh floor of the Great Library, and with it, no one can stop you from leaving......"
The voice of the tall figure became smaller and smaller, as if the voices of countless people screaming in fear appeared again.
When everything was calm and Cassia lit the candle, the tall figure was gone.
