Chapter 315: Moving the capital to Chang'an
"Aiqing said, and then said, it just happened to be in my heart, and I was very interested." Seeing that Zhang Bin suddenly stopped talking, Sima Shu couldn't help urging.
"Yes, Your Majesty continued." Zhang Bin saluted the emperor, and then said, "Although it is now known as the Great Empire of the East, it is actually only in a corner of the East. Since the beginning of the Three Emperors and Five Emperors, our Chinese civilization has always influenced the east of the world, but it has never expanded to the west. But if you want to conquer the world and gain hegemony in the world, you must go west to compete with the Western countries! ”
"Look, on this world map, we are separated from the Western overlord of the Roman Empire by the countries of Central Asia and West Asia, so whoever gets these places in the middle first will be able to dominate the world. In short, if you want to conquer the world, you must first conquer Central Asia and West Asia, and if you want to conquer West Asia and Central Asia first, you must first conquer the Western Regions. ”
"Therefore, if we in China want to conquer the world, we must also conquer the Western Regions, but where are we now? We can't reach it! Therefore, our capital must be moved westward, all the way to Chang'an, Guanzhong, so that we can go out of Yumen Pass and face the Western Regions. As long as there is a change in the Western Regions and the time is ripe, I will send an army out of the Yumen Pass, and I will be able to force the countries in the Western Regions, and then the initiative to dominate the world will be in our hands! ”
"Good, good, good, well said, well said! It's really on my heart. Emperor Sima Shu said excitedly that the intellectuals and strategists of the Great Jin Dynasty have always only thought about the overall situation of the world in a piece of land within East Asia, they rarely raise their eyes to look at the world, and they never care about places outside of China.
Zhang Bin's voice just fell. Sima Shu couldn't wait to clap his hands and shouted: "Okay, good, Aiqing said it so well!" I have made up my mind. There are those who say that it is not good to move," said this, Sima Shu took out the sword from his waist and cut off a corner of the book case according to Dinglong, and the corner of the book case was cut off with a brush, and fell to the ground with a bang, and then Sima Shu said to the courtiers below, "There are those who say that it is not good to move and the case is the same!" ”
Sima Shu can be regarded as shocking the ministers who live at this time. No one said anything anymore. The court was quiet. Everyone can hear their own heartbeat.
Sima Shu paused for a while, looked at the ministers below, and no one spoke anymore, so he ordered. "With the first assistant Zhang Bin from today. He is solely responsible for the relocation of the capital. Make no mistake! Give Qing the right to play solo. If there is anyone who obstructs the relocation of the capital, the secretary has the right to cut it first and then play it. ”
"Obey! The ministers should do their best to do a good job in moving the capital. Zhang Bin knelt down and accepted the will of Emperor Sima Shu.
When the proposal to move the capital was decided, everyone knew that the move to Chang'an was unstoppable. Except for some Kanto families, most of them are quite excited. In any case, Chang'an is the first male city in the world, and it is best to use it as the capital.
"Your Majesty, the old minister still has a question in his heart to ask His Majesty!" At this moment, the second assistant Pei Wei bowed down and said.
"Oh? If Aiqing has any questions, you might as well say it! ”
"Your Majesty, once the capital is moved to Chang'an, how should the status of Luoyang City be handled? Do you regard her as the companion capital of the Great Jin or do you reduce it to an ordinary state and county governor? ”
Pei Wei raised another very important question, it stands to reason that Luoyang is no longer the capital master, and it should be the residence of the Sizhou Governor, but Sima Shu had to consider the feelings of the Kanto family. Just like when the Eastern Han Dynasty moved its capital to Luoyang, it did not reduce Chang'an to a county governor, but treated it as a companion capital.
Sima Shu looked at the family officials who were looking at him with straight eyes, and said loudly: "Luoyang, as the former imperial capital, she has fulfilled her responsibilities and obligations, and now her mission has been completed, but we should not abandon her, but treat Luoyang more kindly." Therefore, I decided to make Luoyang the eastern capital of my Great Jin Dynasty, and one of the three major accompanying capitals of my Great Jin Dynasty! ”
"Your Majesty is wise!"
"Long live my emperor!"
"Spread my will: from now on, Luoyang will be canonized as Tokyo, Chang'an as Xijing, Jizhou as Beijing, and Jiankang as Nanjing!"
In order to alleviate the dissatisfaction of the Kwantung family, and also to alleviate the population pressure faced by the new Jingshi Chang'an in the future, Sima Shu learned from the experience of various dynasties in later generations and set up four companion capitals in four more famous cities, so that each could only share the pressure of Jingshi Chang'an.
Luoyang, as the capital city has a long history, not only in the Eastern Han Dynasty, as early as the Spring and Autumn Period, it was the capital of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty. Although the Luoyang Imperial Palace was destroyed by warlords, the reconstruction of the Wei and Jin dynasties has begun to take shape, especially after Sima Shu ascended the throne, Luoyang has not stopped expanding. In addition, Luoyang is also the end of the west end of the North-South Canal, and it is an important water transport port of the imperial court, so it is enough to use her as the capital of the Great Jin Dynasty!
Not to mention Xijing Chang'an, which was the capital of the Qin and Han dynasties, coupled with Sima Shu's continuous expansion and renovation in the past fifteen years, Chang'an is now the first city in the world, even if Byzantium is built in the future, it will not be able to catch up with the scale of Chang'an. And because Chang'an has adopted a large amount of cement and stone, Chang'an is far more solid than previous generations.
Beijing Jizhou is an important town in the north, has always been the seat of Youzhou governance, but also the Central Plains Dynasty to resist the invasion of the Northeast nomads in the Central Plains military town, but also the northern section of the north-south canal terminus, is an important water transport hub of the Great Jin Dynasty. Since the imperial court recovered Youzhou, Jizhou has become the military and economic center of the north!
Nanjing Jiankang had always been the political, military, and economic center of Jiangdong, and now that it had returned to the imperial court, Sima Shu did not want to reduce its role. After all, the development of Jiangdong is inseparable from this huge city, and with the exemplary role of Jiankang, the development of Jiangdong will be smoother.
After more than a month of preparation, at the beginning of December of the twelfth year of Hongwu, the Great Jin Dynasty officially announced the relocation of the capital to Chang'an. A total of 50,000 people, including Sima Shu, the Son of Heaven, Sima Zhen, the Empress Dowager Xie Jiu, the Empress Wang Huiying, the four noble concubines, the nine concubines, the prince, the princess, the hundred officials, the guards, and the inner servants, went to Chang'an.
Emperor Sima Shu and the royal family sat in the carriage in the middle, with the Su guards in front of the road, followed by the hundred officials and the Praetorian Guards, and the whole team drove to Chang'an. Zhang Bin, who had already arrived in Chang'an, led a large group of bureaucrats to stand thirty miles outside Chang'an to greet the emperor and his party.
Thousands of carriages and tens of thousands of horses entered the Guanzhong along the east-west artery, and ten days later, they officially arrived in the suburbs of Chang'an on December 12, and after waiting for three days, until December 15, the imperial court will hold a ceremony to move the capital.
Three days later, on the fifteenth day of the lunar month, the ceremony of moving the capital officially began.
On both sides of the official road of more than 30 miles from the Bashui ferry port to the east gate of Chang'an, the soldiers of the Su Guard Army and nearly 200,000 people of Chang'an were crowded with people, and more than 100,000 people lined up to welcome them, waving colorful flags and ribbons, making noise with gongs and drums, and beaming with joy.
On this day, Emperor Sima Shu and the Empress sat on the chariot together, wearing the emperor's dress with red background and black edges, wearing a crown, full of energy, and kept waving to the Chang'an soldiers and civilians on both sides.
Sima Shu led the members of the royal family to worship the heavens and the earth and the Great Heavenly Zun, and then the Ministry of Rites Shangshu read the memorial proclamation, and finally Zhang Bin and Zu Ti led the civil and military officials to pay tribute to the Great Heavenly Zun. Next, everyone except the members of the royal family went to the Jingshi Royal Mausoleum to pay a quarter of an hour of silence to the heroic souls of the fallen soldiers here.
finally realized his long-cherished wish to move the capital to Chang'an, and Sima Shu was full of joy. Whether in the past or present life, Chang'an has always been one of Sima Shu's favorite cities, and he has always believed that Chang'an is the most imposing city in China.
In later generations, there was a historian who classified the capital of the Chinese dynasties, and found that in the early days of China, the establishment of the national capital, liked to move in parallel in the east and west directions, and the country was not in Chang'an, but in Luoyang. In the last 1,000 years of Chinese history, the establishment of the national capital, and the law of north-south movement, along the direction of the Grand Canal, the southern end is Hangzhou and Nanjing, the northern end, of course, is Youzhou, and later called Beijing.
This historical law of moving the national capital to the east and west, and moving the national capital to the south and north, each occupies half of the Chinese feudal society, constituting a complete ancient Chinese history. But if you look deeply, you can find that Chang'an is one of them, not only the longest built capital, but also the most suitable place as a political center.
This suitability does not lie in the water and soil, human feelings, and even the blessing of the gods, etc., but in the geographical location of Chang'an is very wonderful, just located in the Guanzhong Plain, which is not too small, by the mountains and rivers, the land is fertile, the terrain is like a jujube core, east and west, there are natural dangers as a pass, and there are hundreds of miles of Qinling Mountains in the south, as a natural barrier, among which this piece of narrow plain, known as "eight hundred miles of Qinchuan", can accommodate hundreds of thousands of troops stationed or gallop, and it is easy to retreat and self-consolidation, and use the terrain to wait for work.
In addition to the geographical advantage is an important reason for Sima Shu to move the capital, another important reason is that Sima Shu found that all the dynasties that built their capitals in Chang'an, or the dynasties that built their capitals in the direction of east and west, such as Zhou, Qin, Han and Tang, each had its own glorious history, constituting some magnificent epics of ancient society worthy of later generations of Chinese people, reminiscence and pride.
And the dynasties that began to move the capital north and south, such as the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, seem to be lackluster and deteriorating. At most, compared with those previous dynasties, it cannot be compared, and it belongs to some declining and declining dynasties. This can't help but make people feel that Chang'an should be the most suitable place to build a capital in ancient China.
With Sima Shu's official entry into the Chang'an Palace, it marked the westward shift of the ruling center of gravity of Huaxia again, and this was also the beginning of the shift of the national policy center of gravity of the Great Jin Empire to the west, and it was also from this moment that the Great Jin Dynasty opened the prelude to the struggle for hegemony in the world and westward expansion!
