Chapter 611: War Memories and Revelations

As a survivor of this war, Lieutenant General Yoshio Shinozuka recounted the bloody and tragic scene at that time in his memoirs: the Chinese army launched an overwhelming offensive in a place where they should not have appeared, hundreds of tanks divided into two parts, flanked left and right, and it only took a few minutes to tear a big hole in our already thin defensive line.

When I ordered a large battalion of chariots to support the attack in front of me, I had a premonition that it would fail. I knew that this brigade would definitely be finished, but I didn't expect them to be finished so quickly, more than five hundred and sixty well-equipped soldiers, all over twenty minutes! The village brigade that went to support was covered by the rocket artillery of the Chinese army, and nine out of ten were killed and wounded, and then the Chinese tank unit was shocked, and the whole army was annihilated, and the gap in the right flank widened dramatically, and we could hardly spare the troops to fill the gap.

The addition of the Rapid Reaction Brigade of the Chinese Army has cornered us. The equipment and training funds of these soldiers are worth the digital infantry of a small squad of the First Class Army moving like ghosts on the perimeter of our defensive line, and we can hardly see them, while the automatic artillery attack ammunition they guide from them continues to fall on our heads one after another, blowing up our important fortifications one after another!

I've tried to keep the ghosts out of the way, and I've sent a squadron to do so when I'm desperately strained, and I haven't seen a single soldier in the squadron again. By the afternoon, the battle situation became more and more fierce, the offensive of the Chinese army became more and more fierce, and several rapid assaults of our army were crushed by their armed helicopters and attack aircraft (Warhawk-3 fighters), especially after they had already won the air battle. The powerful attack planes that have liberated their power have reached the point of madness.

Can you imagine how low they fly? As far as I've seen with my own eyes, these backward Warhawk-3s are flying almost like shaved heads against our scalps. One of them ran out of all the ammunition, and as soon as it pressed to the end, it swept by at an ultra-low altitude and cut off a telephone line that we had so hard set up with great difficulty!

One can imagine what terrifying lethality the bomb-carrying and ferocious attack planes with sufficient ammunition load and fierce firepower will exert in the hands of these madmen, and the bombs and machine cannon shells have been plowed on our positions again and again, and I don't know how many soldiers have been covered with blood and flesh in the light of the strafing of machine guns and the explosion of bombs.

We'd rather be carpet-bombed by the Globemaster than run into these god-killing strike planes, it's a nightmare! Our command may have been exposed, and several warhawks were circling over our heads, dropping aerial bombs one after another. The guards were killed and wounded.

A Chinese tank even killed our military headquarters. They ran directly over the tents of the division and regimental headquarters, and swept wildly with machine guns side by side, and hundreds of guards and miscellaneous personnel who had managed to escape the bombardment of the Chinese army's air force were either killed or wounded.

Later I learned that it was a Rhino tank. It's a sad thing. We don't even know what weapons our opponents are using. A phrase I've always believed. Knowing oneself and knowing one's opponent will not be defeated in a hundred battles. It became the biggest joke at the time.

As far as I know, the commanders of the two divisions under my command were so angry that they lost their minds and went out in person. He led two anti-tank detachments to chase after this hateful tank, firing more than 30 rounds of anti-tank rockets and nine anti-tank missiles, and finally destroyed it.

This small victory boosted the morale of our army to a certain extent, and the division commander regained the respect of the officers and men of the whole army. It's just that it doesn't help us. The despicable long-range bombers of the Chinese army aviation are always firing missiles and gliding aerial bombs outside the defense zone, patiently clearing our remnants of artillery and missile launchers, and over time our losses have risen almost geometrically, and the air defense has been weakened to the point of nothingness.

More vintage bombers joined the killing, killing with aerial machine guns and aerial bombs, and we were bloody.

Here I have to mention the air assault division of the Chinese army, which is in the limelight, and our evaluation of them is: crazy air assault division! They didn't seem to know tiredness, hunger and thirst, and even less the horror of death, and under the cover of the air force and artillery, they attacked wave after wave.

Through radio listening, we can even hear their division commander's ghost crying wolf: "Rush me, rush me!" Give the pig to Lao Tzu and burst out of his intestines! "Then there was a tsunami-like offensive.

The artillery fire rolled back and forth on our position like rolling thunder, the huge armored troops rushed up to the land like a tide, almost covering the ground, and the frantic strafing of three attack planes, each with six machine guns, wrapped every point of fire we exposed in the barrage, and we couldn't even lift our heads! In seven hours they launched seventeen fierce attacks, which we repulsed seventeen times, and each time we gasped for breath and collapsed in the trenches to rest, praying that they too too exhausted to fight again, they rushed over.

Anyone with a little common sense knows that it is unrealistic for them to want to eat 60,000 or 70,000 of our front army with one brigade and that air assault division, and the smartest way to fight should be to find ways to entangle us, prevent us from slipping away, and wait for the large army to come and launch an attack, but they rushed over again and again with red eyes, and there was a great tendency to never give up until we were completely annihilated.

Seven hours later, we were all exhausted, and the Air Assault Division had probably received the latest order to temporarily halt their frantic offensive, and we could finally breathe a good breath. But it would be a mistake to think that they would just let us go.

Just as we were about to eat something to replenish our strength, the shells screamed and smashed over, and some poor insects were blown away without eating a mouthful of anything, and even if they dodged the shelling, they couldn't eat, and the food was splashed with a layer of mud, even the dogs couldn't eat it. I had no choice but to make another one.

The meal was not yet cooked, and the shells came again, and this time it was the cooking squadron that was blown up, and we got it. They didn't even plan to let us have a meal at all!

At that time, I was about to lose my position, a general must always maintain his sanity, roaring like thunder, let the artillery return fire, artillery wing commander Ogasawara Osa told him with a wry smile, the artillery shells are not even enough for a base, we will definitely lose in the artillery battle, there is no way, we can't bear it, we still have to endure it.

Fortunately, the opponent maniac finally had a little scruple and did not release poison gas. Otherwise, if we don't die, we will have to die halfway.

Nibbling on a hard compressed biscuit. The commander of one of my divisions said to me: "General, we must find a way to disengage from the enemy tonight, otherwise the entire First Front Army will be doomed!" ”

I choked on the dry biscuit and asked in surprise, "How is that possible?" It's not easy for us to win against each other. But it's not necessarily going to be defeated! ”

At the time, I didn't think about leaving my position. Because the honor of a soldier does not allow me to retreat at all. The whole Motherland. It has been wiped out, the Pacific islands have been occupied by China one by one, and even the crown of Korea has been taken away by China. The only Far East. It is absolutely impossible to defend against hands. If I were to die, I would like to die here. As an imperial samurai, give your last thing to His Majesty the Emperor.

The division commander said: "Because the three main forces of the Chinese army are rushing at full speed!" There is no army in this world that can block the full force of these three armies, there was none, there is none, and there will be no in the future! If it can't get rid of the entanglement at the front as soon as possible, the First Front Army will be crushed by the torrent of armor of the Chinese army! ”

I didn't speak, I didn't blame him, I just shook my head gently. Indifferently rejected his offer. I myself know very well that the Kwantung Army now has one less chief officer, and even if he retreats, it will not be good. But I really can't do it myself. Once China is allowed to cross the river smoothly, the Kwantung Army will lose the entire Far East.

Although your own strength cannot change the entire battle situation, you should work hard, and there will always be a chance to change, do nothing, have no chance.

Many years ago, my old commander asked me, when is the most vulnerable of an army?

Regardless of the answer given, "retreat" will always be in the top three, especially when retreating at night and when the battle situation is unfavorable. As for retreating at night when the battle situation is unfavorable, it is even more fatal, and if you are not careful, you will have a mess, and once you get out, the consequences will be unimaginable.

Just like the first front army now, tired from a long battle, frustrated one after another, and may be devastated by the Chinese army at any time, it can be said that the military spirit is floating, this retreat, everyone does not have much fighting spirit, if it is not for their old subordinates to lead by example, pressing behind, I am afraid that the troops responsible for the broken rear will run first.

The lives of his two division commanders have been put to the fore, just to stabilize the morale of the army -- God knows if China's terrifying heavy armament army is already in place, and if they are allowed to find a flaw, the First Front Army will really be doomed!

It is undeniable that their subordinates have really done their best, and even do better, no matter how critical they are, they can't blame them, but unfortunately, the initiative is not in our hands.

So at that time, I would not retreat from public or private.

When they saw me, the division commanders under me showed a painful and depressed look, as well as a kind of helplessness that could not be screamed.

After nightfall, the Chinese army scouts and digital infantry kept swimming around the edge of our defense zone, making a little movement from time to time, trying to lure us into firing to expose the target, we could only passively endure their harassment, and as a last resort, let the snipers fire to drive them away, because we only had three bases of ammunition left, and we couldn't waste any more.

The tireless scouts of the Chinese army annoyed us enough to toss until the middle of the night, probably because they didn't think it was fun, and finally quieted down.

However, before we could take a break, my heart instantly cooled when four flames erupted in the sky around me in the distance. The explosion was so violent that I couldn't hear anything for a moment, and if it weren't for my guards who threw me to the ground and gave me an oxygen mask, I probably wouldn't have had a chance to record it all at this point.

When I woke up in a daze, I found that my guards had suffocated to death, and the entire headquarters was filled with staff officers who had clawed their throats and died. I was the only one alive, and I was very confused.

Trembling and struggling to get up, when he slowly moved to the outside of the headquarters, the entire position was full of dead soldiers. Not a single brigade of guards survived.

At this point. I felt a burning pain in many places on my body. Many of the corpses on the ground were shriveled. If I hadn't been crushed by the guards, I would have been roasted to death by the heat, even if there was oxygen, but I was glad that I wasn't at the center of the explosion.

I knew right then that it was a cloudburst bomb. On the soil of the motherland, I don't know how many people died under this weapon. And I experienced it once.

When I heard the sound of a Chinese helicopter flying in the distance, I decided to accompany my subordinates to serve His Majesty the Emperor. There was no time to stick a katana into his abdomen. It was caught by several Chinese soldiers who had abseiled down from the helicopter.

And then there's what I wrote, war, it's really not a very pleasant thing. However, at that time, I was just a soldier. A military man who can only obey orders. Powerless to change anything.

My country did everything it could. It has been 18 years since the Great East Asia War, which fought bloodily and finally failed. Japan finally began to try to establish a political power with the assistance of the Chinese garrison. But the future must not be considered smooth.

Today, it is the Japanese people themselves who determine Japan's future.

Historically, most of the research on war history in our country has been entrusted to the hands of soldiers. Therefore, I believe that there seems to be a lack of work so far, that is, to study and draw lessons from the question of guiding the war from the perspective of political, strategic and strategic unity through a wide range of far-sighted people from all walks of life and on the basis of abundant information. This may be one of the reasons for today's doom.

After the war, the peace-loving people of our country must spare no effort to prevent the recurrence of the scourge of war.

After the end of the war, various writings on the war appeared and seemed to have served their purpose, but the history of the war, based on accurate and reliable sources, is the study of the history of the war that ran through the strategy and strategy of the war. This work extensively collects and organizes the outline of this huge war, reveals to the world the truth that guided the war at that time, and recounts the ins and outs of the army and navy's operations in all aspects, based on secret information that has never been made public.

After the publication of this book, people are bound to further deepen their understanding of the war and become more active in commenting on the right and wrong of war guidance, operations, armaments, and other aspects. During the war, the author twice served as the chief of the operations section of the War Department of the base camp, devoted himself to the battle, and after the war, he was still immersed in the study of war history. For the author, it may be my life's wish to stand in front of people from all walks of life and to receive their stern criticism based on accurate information.

It has been 18 years since the unprecedented defeat in this great war. We are finally ushering in the new year of independence. But is the future of the new Japan really a smooth road to light? In the old days, it might have been said that now was the time to wait for the birth of great philosophers, statesmen, and scientists.

However, in today's era, we should not wait in vain for the emergence of great men, but every citizen must become a patriot and a person who cares for the country, correctly consider and determine the direction of the country by himself, and gather all his strength for this purpose. I am convinced that the rise and fall of the new Japan will depend on this.

History is the course of development of a country and a nation from the past to the present, from the present to the future, and it cannot be denied that there is a profound causal relationship in it. We must always look to the past, recognize where we are now, and look to the future.

In other words, the study of history is an indispensable and important condition for a true Japanese person to take control of his own destiny. It is said that during the Napoleonic Wars, Fichte was a famous German philosopher and thinker, and in 1805 Prussia was defeated by Napoleon and concluded a peace treaty, from which Berlin was placed under the control of the French army, and in the winter of 1807 or 1808, he published the book "To the German People".

In front of the window, while looking at the painful scene of Berlin, the capital of the beloved motherland, being tragically ravaged by the French army, he told the story of his famous book "A Complaint to the German People". The book is said to tell the history of the Germans and calls for a return to true German character. When I think of this, I can't help but feel the need to re-understand the importance and value of history.

I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing, I played a very dishonorable role in the war. I am certainly an insignificant being, but after all, I am a person in the whirlpool of war. Not only that, but after the war, I moved from Hanjing Prison in China to Tokyo Prison in Japan because of my advanced age.

While he could still think, he immersed himself in collecting and sorting out materials on the Great East Asian War and compiling war history. During this period, I conducted profound introspection and discussion on the issue of war. War is certainly a tragedy in human history, but it can also be said to be predestined on certain occasions.

The Great East Asia War was truly a tragedy for Japan. The estimated 22.6 million killed and the 1.5 million crippled are all the more heartbreaking when you think of the families of the deceased, who are several times as great.

Because of this, I am determined to suppress my grief and devote all my energy to conquering this war history. Fortunately, last year I was granted the right to visit the prison library on a regular basis, and I immersed myself in fulfilling my tragic wish to write a war history that had not been completed for several years.

Admittedly, I personally have some points of introspection and shame, and I am not without some criticism of individual issues, but this book is not my memoir, and I know that I am not qualified to do so. The memoirs are only small chapters, and they are better than nothing.

When I was writing, I was not bound by my personal past, and insisted on trying to explore the truth of historical facts with a fair and objective attitude. Therefore, instead of avoiding the historical facts that are obviously mistakes and failures, I do not hesitate to take up a lot of space to clarify the truth of the facts that have been buried in history.

Generally speaking, it is intended to make it have both comprehensive policy and strategy and to give a comprehensive historical explanation of the policy and strategy. In other words, it is intended to be written compactly into a history book that includes the guidance of war, the supreme commander, the important operations and battles of all aspects, and the organic connections between them.

The autumn grass has dried up, and the winter flowers are gone;

And wait for the spring to be warm, full of green and new.

Although Japan has gone through 18 years of anarchy, I can see that the Japanese people at this time seem to be much better off than they were in the Showa era. That's probably my greatest consolation right now.

The Meiji Restoration, a rich country and a strong army, I hope that such thoughts will not appear on the land of Japan again. A rich country and a strong people are the only way to stability.

(Meiji Restoration: Through the Meiji Restoration, Japan broke the dream of a paradise under the century-old policy of locking down the country, and embarked on the path of development from a feudal country to a modern capitalist country.) It was not only staring at the splendid material culture of the advanced countries of Europe and the United States, but at the same time being amazed at the sharp momentum of the invasion of East Asia by these advanced imperialist powers. It can also be said that the reform of governance is the product of history as an opportunity of the eastward expansion of the material civilization of Europe and the United States and the invasion of East Asia by the imperialist powers of Europe and the United States.

As a result, the government and opposition figures in Japan, a backward country, invariably turned their attention to overseas and regarded the so-called enrichment of the country and the strengthening of the army as a national policy, in an effort to build a country that could be in company with the great powers. Japan's nationalist and even militaristic tendencies. In fact, it began to take shape and develop in the objective situation after the Meiji Restoration and Japan. )

We must hope for a long and lasting peace in the future, and forge ahead courageously at the dawn. I firmly believe that turning misfortune into blessing. (To be continued......)

PS: I don't know if I write it like this, will it be sprayed by everyone!! Look at the war from a Japanese perspective.

But the gorgeous is still written, and I don't want to revise it.
