Chapter Seventy-Six: Highest Level of Authority
Unlike the battle-experienced elders of the military department, who talk and laugh, the director of intelligence, Fleck, has been busy lately and is feeling pressured. Because he had focused his work on Southeast Asia, especially the Vietnam War against the French colonizers and the Chinese Civil War, he had forgotten to pay more attention to European issues. It wasn't until the recent lockdown of East Germany that Fleck tried desperately to make amends, but there was a feeling that it was too late, because the intelligence officers sent to the GDR were unable to obtain any information under Stasi's watchful eye.
The level of frustration of Director Forlac can be imagined, once His Royal Highness Albert blames him, he, the intelligence chief, is likely to be unable to eat and walk away. He only hoped that His Highness Albert would not come to the door so quickly, and even if he did, he would not tell himself about East Germany.
But according to Murphy's Law, the less you want something to happen, the more likely it is to happen, and just as Director Flake racks his brains about how to make up for his mistakes, Albert comes to the door.
Albert didn't have time to be polite with Director Fleck, so he said straight to the point, "Director Fleck, you should know about the recent events in East Berlin." β
"Your Highness Albert, forgive me for my incompetence, I only have a small amount of information on the events that took place in East Germany, and the actions of the Soviets in East Germany are really beyond my grasp." Director Fleck told the truth, and it was not easy to hide it from the future king of Belgium.
Albert was not angry, he just threw a document to Director Fleck, in fact, in most cases of the East German problem, Albert took into account, only the secret resistance organization that provided arms aid was an uncontrollable factor, and the development of the fire that broke the Soviet-controlled East Germany could only survive sporadically for a while, it all depended on whether God blessed them or not.
"I would have known that I would have thrown them a batch of German versions of the rebel Bible "Selected Works of Mao-Zedong." Albert grumbled inwardly.
"The matter in Southeast Asia can be put aside for now, I want your agents lurking in East Germany to assist these guys, of course, don't let them know that we are secretly helping this group of people, just hope that their plan can be carried out smoothly."
Director Follett flipped through the folder, but the contents were dumbfounded, and he looked at it for a while before returning the document to Albert, "Go and assassinate Stasi's secret police leader Zeisel, these guys are too bold." The previous news from our agents was that Zeisel was surrounded by a large number of secret police and even protected by the army, and it was basically impossible to assassinate him. And, let this rabble start a riot in the GDR? Do these people think that the armored vehicles and tanks of the Soviet Union are just decorations? β
After listening to Follett's explanation, Albert closed the file and said slowly, "That's why I'm coming to you." Because I can now give you the highest level of authority in the intelligence organization, and I can even mobilize the secret unit of the Belgian special air service company to assist them, how about it. β
Director Flake's eyes widened and he asked in disbelief, "Are you serious, Your Highness Albert, who wants to give me the highest level of authority?" And use the secret forces to help this group of guys? β
"Of course." Albert nodded, "But not here, we're going to go to their training base to meet directly for authorization." β
Of course, Director Fleck knows what the highest level of authority is, which means that he can mobilize the secret force that is Albert's Baby Pimple, which is a team composed of a group of super elites, and it can be said that as long as there are more than two high-ranking soldiers in the Belgian special air service company, one of them will be absorbed by the secret force. Even Chief Fleck often complained that the secret forces were like the SS, and they were always able to transfer the best agents around him. I don't return it after that.
It was a hot, sweaty June day outside, and a dignitary like Director Flake, who liked to sit under the air conditioner in a tie, had rarely experienced such a hot weather. Although when he was a soldier, he also trained in the same heat in hellish heat, but everything is a thing of the past.
The car drove into the suburbs of Brussels, where a dense forest, the only entrance to the highway was guarded by a group of heavily armed soldiers, and after confirming Albert's identity, the soldier commander saluted Albert and then pulled up the railing and let the car in.
"This is the most heavily guarded area in the whole of Brussels, and it is even more densely guarded than the fortresses of Liège and Antwerp, so Chief Fleck knows how important the secrecy here is." Albert introduced himself to the director beside him.
"That's natural." Fleck hurriedly responded.
When the vehicle arrived at the gate of the base, Albert and Forlac had to obediently get out of the car to be checked, and even Albert's car was sniffed with a police dog in case the car was equipped with an explosive device, while Albert and Forleck were embarrassed to be searched and checked, in fact, these are the rules set by Albert himself, entering the secret army training camp, even if the king comes, he must undergo various security checks before he can be released.
After confirming that everything was correct, Albert and Fleck were released together, and the guards here were not like those under the mountain, they were completely expressionless. It seems that they do not know at all that the person in front of them is the future king of Belgium, and in their eyes only the issued orders are everything.
Albert, however, was in a good mood, and a group of soldiers who were loyal to orders was better than a group of men who would mutiniate and turn their guns at any moment. Others just take a division and exchange them for these people, Albert has to say NO.
"It's an honor for His Highness Albert to be here." The head of the barracks came out of his office and personally walked to the gate of the barracks to greet His Highness Albert.
"Who is this?" The head of the barracks saw the stranger beside Albert and looked at Director Fleick with a wary gaze, like a hungry wolf spying on a prey.
Director Fleck, whose identity was questioned like this for the first time, coughed awkwardly, and quickly introduced himself, so as not to be taken as a spy, "I am the director of the Chaoyang Intelligence Bureau, Fleck." β
"My name is Benedict Charles Bobber, the former company commander of the Belgian Special Air Service Company, and the current head of the secret unit." After listening to Fleck's self-introduction, Benedict's face softened a lot, but his eyes were still firmly fixed on Director Fleck, and Fleck's face touched his nose in embarrassment.
"I'm sorry that this is our occupational disease, I always feel that the one standing in front of us is our enemy, and I ask Director Forleck to forgive me." Seeing Forlack's embarrassment, Benedict didn't continue to dwell on the director's outsider problem, and led them directly to the conference hall.
"The equipment here is stricter than the top secret agency of the Intelligence Bureau!" Looking at the soldiers guarding the layers along the way, Director Flake was amazed.
"That's natural, once the secret of this place is leaked, I'm afraid the whole world will send spies to this place to snoop." Benedict said triumphantly.
Out of prudence, Benedict didn't want to take them to his office full of secret training materials, although most of those materials were provided to them by Albert, but seeing the scene of Director Fleck, Benedict was more or less obvious, "May I ask His Highness Albert to bring an unknown outsider this time, is it to give him the highest level of authority?" β
