Chapter 34 [Tempest 12]

Niu Shengru was the prime minister of Tang Muzong and Tang Wenzong, and his son Niu Congren was the assassin of Muzhou. When he returned to the capital to thank the emperor, Xuanzong gave him purple clothes. The Muzhou Mansion of the Tang Dynasty was in Tonglu, Zhejiang, and later Fan Zhongyan of the Song Dynasty also served as an official there, and the famous Hai Rui also left a British name. Li Deyu, the former prime minister of the dynasty, is the mortal enemy of Niu Monk and Ru, you and I fight you and me, and I fight you for 30 years. Xuanzong saw and remembered their behavior of disregarding the image of the government for their own interests, and he didn't like this person very much. became the emperor, and demoted him to Hainan Island with a blow, where he died. According to Mr. Yu Qiuyu's "Notes on Mountain Residence", there are still descendants of Li Deyu on Hainan Island.

He attaches great importance to talent. After taking office, he thought of Bai Juyi, but when the edict was issued, Bai Juyi had been dead for more than eight months. He wrote a poem "Hanging Bai Juyi" and deeply missed:

Sixty years of jade beads, who taught the underworld to be a poet. The floating clouds are not white and easy, and the creation is not good. The boy recites the song of long hatred, and Hu'er can sing the pipa. The article has been full of pedestrians' ears, and Siqing was stunned for a while.

He is very strict with the good people. Don't let them hold official positions, don't let them participate in state affairs. A few years ago, the middle school textbook selected a story from "Zizhi Tongjian", which was about Luo Cheng, a musician. Luo Cheng's musical instrument played very well and was loved by Xuanzong. Because of this, Luo Cheng was arrogant and domineering, and killed people for a little trivial matter. Since ancient times, any dynasty that deprives others of their right to life has to pay for their lives. Xuanzong believes that killing people is justified, there is nothing to say, just kill it. Those colleagues who are usually with Luo Cheng advised the emperor, hoping to open up. One day, I waited for the emperor to come up and listen to music. They put Luo Cheng's qin in the place where Luo Cheng was sitting, hoping that Xuanzong would see the qin. can think of Luo Cheng's goodness, and punish him lightly. Xuanzong knew what these people meant. He said to these Youling. Ladies and gentlemen, what you value is Luo Cheng's skills, and what he values is the laws of the country. If he kills someone, can he still forgive the loan? In the end, he killed Luo Cheng and returned the law to justice.

Although the eunuchs were not particularly suppressed, they still had an attitude. A eunuch saw Prime Minister Zheng Lang and did not dismount. Xuanzong knew about this, and issued an edict to strip him of his official uniform and give him to Nanya as a lowly servant. He made another policy. Whoever is guilty of the guilt of the festival shall be overseered by the prison army. The imperial court of the Tang Dynasty feudal town troops sent officials to serve as supervisors, and those who served as supervisors were eunuchs.

He is not only strict with the people around him, but also with his relatives.

The story of the princess who was married twice is very famous, and it is also very rare in history. It turned out that Princess Yongfu had already promised to be married to Yu Cong (Reading Cong), and later withdrew the holy decree. The prime minister didn't know why he asked the emperor why he had changed his mind. He said that she was a little unhappy when she had dinner with this daughter recently. I actually broke the chopsticks in front of my father. With such a temperament, how can she go to the doctor's house to be a daughter-in-law! immediately issued a decree to make Princess Guangde marry Yu Cong. Princess Yongfu watched as her sister became her agent. Princess Guangde was the elder sister of Yizong, in the later Tang Yizong era. The husband was framed and exiled to the border by Yizong's concubine Wei Baoheng, and was willing to follow her husband. In 881, he was killed by Huang Chao.

The eldest daughter, Princess Wanshou, married Zheng Hao, a living man. As usual. To decorate the wedding car with silver leaf, he said. Decorate it with copper. Marriage is a big deal, but it's just a formality. A person's married life is good or bad. Whether the life of the couple is happy or not has little to do with the grade of the wedding, so you can save it. He also warned his daughter that when she went to her husband's house, she should strictly observe the woman's way and not despise her husband. Once, when Zheng Hao's younger brother fell ill, Xuanzong sent an envoy to visit him. After the envoy visited the patient, he went back to report, and Xuanzong specifically asked the princess if she was also there. The envoy said that she had gone to the Temple of Mercy and Grace to watch a play. When Xuanzong heard this, he said angrily, no wonder the scholar was reluctant to marry the princess, and he still knows his feelings! He ordered the princess to be called and reprimanded to her face. When the princess saw that her father was furious, she was so frightened that she hurriedly pleaded guilty. There will never be anything like this again.

2. Excellent memory

When Xuanzong was still a son, he was almost killed. Regarding this matter, Wei Zhaodu's "Reading the Imperial Family's Fortune" and Ling Hucheng's son Ling Hucheng's "Zhenling Legacy" are recorded in two books. In order to compete for the throne, Wuzong had his own uncle arrested and immersed in the palace toilet. There was a eunuch named Qiu Gongwu who had the intention to rescue him, pretended to kill him, wrapped him in a broken mat, and sent him out of the palace to survive. After leaving the palace, he was a monk for three years, and Wuzong died, and the eunuchs invited him out to be emperor. Ling Hujiao was a contemporary of Xuanzong, and his son lived not far from Wuzong, and Wei Zhaodu was the prime minister during the Zhaozong period, so his credibility should be great......

Legend has it that Xuanzong liked to sing "Bodhisattva Man", so the fox secretly ordered Wen Tingyun to write new words to advance. Among Wen Tingyun's words and Dunhuang songs, "Bodhisattva Man" is the most called. "Bodhisattva Man" was a popular song in Chang'an City at that time, and Xuanzong may have been a fan of "Bodhisattva Man" almost crazy.

Wen Tingyun was a lyricist in the late Tang Dynasty, and the 500 "Flower Collection" collected 18 "poet songs" such as Wen Tingyun, and his words were the first. His "Bodhisattva Man" has a total of eighteen songs, the first one:

"The hills overlap and the gold is extinguished, and the temples and clouds want to be fragrant and snowy. I am too lazy to paint my eyebrows, and I am late to make up and freshen up. Before and after the flowers, the flowers reflect each other. Newly embroidered robes, double golden partridges. ”

Write about a woman who waits for no one overnight, and the next day appears in a solemn scene, all of which are silent shots. The imagery of excellent poetry is also multi-directional, which can also be said to be a resentful woman in life, or it can be said to be a metaphor for a talented scholar. But no matter what kind of imagery is written, the feeling of disappointment and loneliness is hinted at with the help of movements and clothing, and the brushwork is delicate.

Regarding Linghu Xuan, Li Shangyin failed the Shishi examination, saying that it was caused by his obstruction, and satirized Linghu Prime Minister for "not knowing the taste of rotting rats, and guessing that the chicks have not ended".

The Five Dynasties' "Tales of China and North Korea" and "Northern Dream Trivia" and Lu You's "Summer Resort" also recorded that he fled south to the south of the Yangtze River and escaped into the empty door. At the beginning of the Song Dynasty, someone once said that he had been to Hangzhou. Zen Master Qi'an of Hangzhou Buddhist Temple valued him very much and took good care of him. After Xuanzong ascended the throne, Qi An had already died. Xuanzong gave the temple name, and Qi An was the master of Wukong, and there were poems to mourn. In addition, he also met Master Huang Di, and there was a public case "Huang Di Rite Buddha": the master asked him if he didn't look at Buddhism, and he didn't look at art. If you don't look at the arts, what should the elders ask for? He demanded that all localities change Taoism to Buddhism. Buddhism, which was strictly forbidden during the Wuzong period, was restored, and temples were built everywhere. Many monks were added. It adds a heavy burden to the state. At this point, Zhou Guowei was better than him in the later period of the fifth dynasty. In the second year of Guo Wei's accession to the throne, he abolished 3,336 Buddhist temples in the world, and destroyed the bronze Buddha statues in the world to cast money.

Wuzong did not appoint a crown prince before his death, but if he wanted to make him emperor, he himself did not believe it. When his life was confused and chaotic, the eunuch Ma Yuanzhen saw that Wuzong couldn't see things, and made him the emperor's uncle. Soon after, Wu Zong died. He ascended the throne. He was the only emperor of the Tang Dynasty to be succeeded by an uncle.

Why does he not even believe that he will be emperor?

In the ancient system, regardless of virtue and ability, the first person who ascended the throne was the eldest son of the in-law. Xuanzong was not born to the mother of the main palace, so naturally he couldn't get this vote. Naturally, the elder brother became the emperor, and it was Wuzong. Wuzong died and the prince succeeded to the throne, so he was even more hopeless. Besides, as a child he was like a mute. Everyone played with everyone, and everyone was elated. It shows the rich character of the royal children. He stood to the side stupidly, not saying that he looked lonely, at least his eyes were dull, and he hardly said a word. His elder brother Wenzong went to the Sixteenth House to play. I don't have anything to say to Brother Huang. When Wen Zong saw this foolish brother, he often laughed at him for being a foolish boy who didn't understand anything. It's like the ugly duckling in Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale, everyone laughs at him. Everyone bullied him, and no one took him seriously. It has become a pistachio after the dinner of the palace dignitaries and nobles.

Xuanzong became emperor. Unlike his predecessors, who did nothing. He's going to make a career. For the ancestral foundation, unremitting efforts have been made. He worked hard and arranged his work to the fullest every day. Not only does he care about national affairs, but he also often cares about the people around him. He has a very good memory, and he remembers the names of the palace transporter, the firewood, the cook, the fire aunt, the cleaning brother, the janitor, the nursery sister, and the tea girl. For these people, he can arrange work according to their strengths and hobbies, and there is nothing wrong with them. Sometimes, some of the names of the prison officials reported below, and all officials above the fifth rank asked the Prime Minister's Office to copy a list and resume to him. Put it on the table, take a look at it when you have time, and remember it at a glance. Even the words on the ledger can be remembered clearly.

Once, an official of the Inner Treasury cleaned up the defaced cloth in the warehouse, and mistakenly wrote "stain" as "Qing" on the report sheet. Later, the Chinese book reported this matter again, but it was written as "stains". Xuanzong was very angry when he found out, and handed over Sun Yin to the relevant departments, and was punished for the crime of changing the chapter without authorization, and was relegated to other places. Xuanzong's memory is extremely rare among kings. "Zizhi Tongjian" has made a lot of descriptions of his good memory, and the narration is full of beautiful expressions, which is intended to explain to future generations that Xuanzong is an emperor who works hard. This is very rare in history.

"Zizhi Tongjian" also recounts the following two events, telling everyone that Xuanzong, like Taizong, is a very great emperor, called Little Taizong.

Like many kings, Xuanzong also loved to hunt. One day, while hunting in Yuanbeitian, I met several woodcutters. He wanted to know what was going on in the area, so he called the woodcutter to his side and asked them where they were. The woodcutters told Xuanzong that they were from Jingyang County. Xuanzong also asked them who the current county commander is, whether the officials are honest or not, whether they are inactive in government, and how the people live.

The woodcutters told Xuanzong that the county order was called Li Xingyan, who was poor and honest in government, and was very good to the people. Over the years, the people of Jingyang County have lived and worked in peace and contentment, and their lives have been much better. Not only that, but there is a spirit in their parents that has touched the people of the county.

Xuanzong was very curious and said, please tell me what kind of spirit it is.

The woodcutters said that at the beginning, when he came to take up his post in the county, there were already several robbers who plagued the township and did all kinds of evil, and the people suffered greatly and suffered unspeakably. After Li Xingyan knew about it, he said that the emperor was wise, how could he let such a lawless beast run rampant! Immediately sent out a quick arrest to arrest them, but these robbers heard the wind and hid. Later, he secretly investigated and learned that the robbers were hiding in a soldier's house.

However, to go to the soldier's house to arrest him, this was not dared in the previous county order. Li Xingyan was very angry, it doesn't matter who you are, he ordered a search. A squad in the county was about to be arrested, but the soldiers stopped them at the door, and they were so mad that they refused to hand over the suspects. The combination of military and bandits, arrogance, no one can do anything. Li Xingyan was reported, how could he be so arrogant! Personally led the men and horses to the soldiers' house and arrested the robbers. Robbers are rampant, and they have a lot to do with this soldier. The county order arrested the soldiers for the crime of harboring, executed them according to the law, and beheaded them all over the house. Jing County has been peaceful since then, and the people live and work in peace and contentment, "yellow hair hangs down and they are happy"!

Xuanzong memorized the name of the county order at that time, and after returning to Beijing, he wrote the three characters "Li Xingyan" on a piece of paper and pasted it on the pillar in the room. In October, when he saw an opportunity, he promoted Li Xingyan to the history of Haizhou. When Li Xingyan entered the court to thank Xuanzong, Xuanzong gave him gold and purple clothes. And said to Li Xingyan, do you know why I gave you purple clothes? Li Xingyan looked at the emperor with a pair of upright eyes, shook his head and said, Your Majesty, the subordinates don't know. Tang Xuanzong immediately ordered to take the stickers posted on the pillars of the dormitory left and right and show them to Li Xingyan. Only then did Li Xingyan know that he had done real things for the people in Jingyang, and the emperor also knew. Now he is the assassin of Haizhou, which is appointed by the emperor. Haizhou is now Lianyungang, Jiangsu, and Xuzhou, one of the Kyushu states during the Xia and Shang periods. During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, it belonged to Lu first and then to Chu, which was called "Tan (Reading Altar) Country".

The Jingyang County led by Li Xingyan is in the hinterland of Qinchuan, 800 miles from Shaanxi, and about 50 miles south of Chang'an. Here is the most ointment in the Guannai, about the good name of "cabbage heart", south of the Wei River and Jing River. Tang Dezong and Xuanzong were buried there. The prototype of the Monkey King of the three dozen white bone spirits is a native of Jingyang, and Yu Youren, a famous Kuomintang figure and calligrapher, is also a native of Jingyang.

The second story was also learned during a private visit to Weifu while hunting. He was hunting in Weizhou, passing by the Lili Spring. The officials who followed him learned that there were dozens of elderly people praying for Buddha in the shrine. The emperor sent someone to ask, it turned out that the county commander here was about to leave office, and they went to the state capital to ask the superior leaders to keep him and continue to serve as the county commander, but they did not get a reply, so they had to come to the Buddha to bless him to continue to stay in office. The emperor was very moved, and asked them why he wanted to continue to serve as the county magistrate, and what the name of the county magistrate was. These old people told Xuanzong that his name was Li Junzheng (read yes), he was the county commander, the politics were clear, and the people were happy and safe, so they asked the Bodhisattva to bless him and let him be a parent official for a few more years.

The emperor smiled when he heard this, and remembered the name of this county order.

Those old people didn't know that the person who asked them was the emperor, but what they didn't expect was that they really asked for the Buddha. The emperor also seemed to remember Li Xingyan's name and left Liquan. When I went back, I wrote it down on paper and pasted it in my dormitory. Just wait for the opportunity to give him a promotion. (To be continued......)
