364 Hunting the Red Baron

While the pressure on France continued, Germany was gaining victory on other battlefields.

In mid-May, Germany and Romania signed the Treaty of Gallest.

In this treaty, the Germans continued the far-sighted greed of the treaty with Russia, and also brutally oppressed Romania.

The Romanians were forced to lease their oil fields to Germany for 99 years, and in this treaty the Romanians received almost no benefits, so one can imagine the anger of the Romanians.

After the signing of the Treaty of Gallest, Ludendorff's next step was finally decided, this time Ludendorff's target became Lance and Soisson.

Unfortunately, both of these places were within Qin Zhiyuan's defensive range.

Ludendorff's goal was to threaten Paris and at the same time to attract Flanders' French forces to the Reims area, so that Ludendorff could continue to attack Flanders in order to break the stalemate.

In order to ensure the achievement of his tactical objectives, Ludendorff made careful preparations, which lasted for a month, not only to prepare artillery shells, but also to mobilize infantry divisions, and the Bavarian prince's forces soon increased to 50 divisions, and they were to launch a powerful attack on the front for which the Foreign Legion was responsible.

Ludendorff made another mistake in the choice of targets, and if Ludendorff had not targeted Reims or Sussonva, but at Verdun, the Germans would have been overwhelmed.

The current force responsible for defending the Verdun area is the French 7th Army, a patchwork of troops with many soldiers who are not sufficiently trained, and even a unit composed entirely of men over the age of 40.

Perhaps it was precisely because Qin Zhiyuan's record against the German army was so brilliant that Ludendorff could not ignore Qin Zhiyuan, which prompted Ludendorff to take the Foreign Legion led by Qin Zhiyuan as his next target.

At the beginning of June, the Germans had completed all their tactical preparations, and the offensive was about to begin.

While the Germans were preparing for war, Qin Zhiyuan was not idle. Almost every day, there were military columns arriving in Reims from Paris, loaded with shells and food, and Foch had a premonition of the German attack, so he increased his supply to Reims.

Throughout May, Qin Zhiyuan stockpiled 7 million shells, nearly 260 tons of various foodstuffs, and more than 400,000 bottles of various alcoholic beverages in Reims.

The supply of alcohol exceeded Qin Zhiyuan's expectations, so much so that Qin Zhiyuan had to send a telegram to Bruno Abel Garcia, who was in charge of preparing the supplies, asking him to replace the wine with diesel.

Garcia still didn't realize what fuel meant to the tank troops, Qin Zhiyuan's troops had hoarded 45 tons of diesel, which may sound like a lot, but in fact, if the tanks were all activated, it would only be enough for two days' consumption.

On June 10, the Germans launched an almost simultaneous artillery bombardment of the lines of Laon and Champagne Chalons, including Reims, which was silent in the middle, and the German offensive line reached a width of 80 kilometers, and the Second Battle of Reims began.

The Germans had a clear goal, which was to use their usual pincer offensive to break through from both sides of Reims, and then flank Reims on both sides, opening the door to Paris and threatening the safety of Paris.

When Paris felt threatened, Foch would bring his troops back from Flanders, and Ludendorff would be able to annihilate the isolated British army.

Unfortunately for the German army, which was about to attack, from Laon to Champagne Chalon, it was the Foreign Legion that was in charge of the defense, and this bone was hard to gnaw.

However, fortunately for the Germans, it was the overly optimistic 84th Brigade of the American Army, which had just arrived at the front, that was responsible for defending the Amifontein area, the focus of the German attack.

In charge of the defense of the Champagne Chalons area were two Senegalese divisions that were not very well managed.

Shortly after the Germans began shelling, the air forces of both sides were one step ahead of the fight in the sky.

There are nearly 100 fighters in Qin Zhiyuan's hands, which sounds like a lot, but in fact, it is far less than the number of fighters owned by the Bavarian prince.

Foch discovered Qin Zhiyuan's embarrassment in time and sent a group of British and French fighters to help in the battle.

The battle was extremely tragic, the air was full of fighter planes shuttling back and forth, from time to time fighters disintegrated in the air, and more fighters were shot down in black smoke, no matter what the situation, it was difficult for the pilots to escape.

Bao Deshui, the biggest ace of the Chinese Air Force, also attacked with the team, and encountered the famous Red Baron in the sky over Reims.

No way, the Red Baron's plane is too conspicuous, the harsh red represents death for the cowardly, but for Bao Deshui, this red represents challenge and passion.

In the last two months, the Red Baron has won 50 victories, and his total record now stands at 92.

This greatly stimulated the pilots of the Entente countries, and the pilots of the Entente countries painted their noses red, saying that they would definitely defeat the Red Baron.

During the truce, Qin Zhiyuan devised a set of tactics for the fighters of the Foreign Legion. In each attack, two Foreign Legion planes were dispatched at the same time, one of which was responsible for attracting the attention of the enemy aircraft, and when the enemy aircraft began to engage the first aircraft at low altitude, the other dived from a high altitude to deal a fatal blow to the enemy aircraft.

This kind of combat method that was popular in World War II was simply invincible in World War I, and in just two months after the start of the war, eight ace pilots were born in the Chinese Air Force.

Bao Deshui is still the most dazzling one, and now Bao Deshui's fighter has 37 successes, and even his wingman has become an ace pilot.

It was precisely because of the threat of the Chinese Air Force that the Bavarian prince maintained a high degree of caution, and he wanted to retain an air force to use against the Chinese Air Force.

The Red Baron did not die in the Somme region.

But in the Reims region, the Red Baron did not have a good time either.

On the 10th, the Red Baron led his hunting party over Omenancourt, preparing to expel the Allied fighters from the area.

The Bavarian prince had enough intelligence to prove that Qin Zhiyuan's headquarters was in Brimont, and Brimont was only five kilometers away from Omenancourt.

At Ommenancourt, the hunting brigade led by the Red Baron and the 1st Air Regiment led by Bao Deshui met.

Now there is no radar, and pilots can only rely on visual inspection to detect enemy aircraft, and the pilots' eyesight is perverted compared to ordinary people.

The Red Baron and Bao Deshui spotted each other almost at the same time, and like the Red Baron, Bao Deshui also sprayed his plane red, and not just the back half, but the entire fuselage, including the huge wings.

So all the fighters began to climb at the first time, intending to occupy a more advantageous position and attack.

Unlike the German army that flew two-wing or three-wing fighters, the Chinese fighters were almost all single-wing, thanks to the progress of materials and the research and development of higher-power engines.

The monoplane has a great advantage in the face of biplanes, especially after the surface of the aircraft has been optimized, the various concaves and convex objects are minimized, so that the air resistance to the aircraft is minimized, and the machine guns mounted on the two wings at the same time have stronger firepower, which is more than twice that of the German army.

From the beginning of the climb phase, the Chinese fighters had a clear advantage, they climbed faster, and in the same time, the altitude of the climb was higher, so that when the war started, the Chinese fighters could have a greater advantage.

This superiority was reflected on the battlefield, and as a result, German fighters were shot down one after another.

The Red Baron was not shot down at the first time, but he was also targeted by Bao Deshui and had to use all his resources to try to get rid of it, and he was embarrassed.

When a fighter fights in the air, low-altitude performance is very important.

The streamlined Foreign Legion fighters are actually inferior to the biplane fighters in the field of low-altitude combat, because they are too fast, and if they are not careful, they will fly over their heads and miss the attack position.

This is not out of the question, you can open the spoiler to increase air resistance and at the same time make the aircraft more accurate, or you can choose the hussar tactic, touch and go, and do not give the enemy a chance to counterattack.

Bao Deshui chose light cavalry tactics.

The light cavalry tactics are simply to use the faster speed of the fighter to repeatedly harass the enemy, just like the Mongolian light cavalry's "mangu", with high speed to occupy the target above, dive strike on the enemy plane, if the enemy plane is destroyed, look for the next target, if not, then rely on the high speed of rapid detachment, in the far end of the circle continue to occupy a dominant position and dive.

The Foreign Legion fighters with better fighters and better tactics are almost invincible with this tactic, and the German fighters have suffered enough in the past few months, and now it is finally the turn of the Red Baron.

In the first wave of attacks, 11 German fighters were shot down by the air regiment of 48 fighters in the Baude Water Air Regiment, and two of them themselves were shot down and two were damaged.

Then there is the chaotic air battle, and at this time, there is no need to pursue any tactics or formations, no matter what methods are used, just be able to beat down the enemy planes.

After Bao Deshui found the Red Baron, he gestured to his wingman Dou Yongyi, then pressed down the nose of the plane and rushed in the direction of the Red Baron.

Dou Yongyi and Bao Deshui have been cooperating together for more than half a year, and they have a common heart with each other and understand the meaning of Bao Deshui. Therefore, seeing Bao Deshui dive, Dou Yongyi continued to climb and prepared for a second dive.

The Red Baron is a big target, and at the same time as Bao Deshui dived, there were three fighters charging towards the Red Baron's plane, and no one wanted to let go of this big piece of fat.

The Red Baron's flying skills were indeed powerful, and since he was unscathed in the first wave of attacks, his good luck also ended there, because soon, the wingmen also began to dive, and the main engine had already broken away at high speed, ready to seize the advantageous position and continue to dive.

The cycle goes on and on, without a moment's pause, knowing that the tactical goal is achieved.

This is Bao Deshui's tactic, if they can't beat you, they will consume you.

The members of the hunting brigade under the Red Baron found out about the commander's dangerous situation, and they rushed to support, but to no avail, the rest of the fighters of the air combat group were not idle, they were also engaged in skillful two-plane formation operations, and soon shot down the fighters of the hunting group one by one.

The Hunting Brigade - this devil who made the pilots of the Western Front feel bad has finally become someone else's prey!
