Chapter Seventy-Seven: What Does "Nothing"

-

Why do murders need to be investigated, and why do murderers need to be found and punished?

A lot of times, we don't really think about it.

The law gives such a set of guidelines.

But the law itself?

Society itself?

Mo Shi looked at the blue bird—at the only being who belonged to the same world as him, and thought.

Moser understood why the investigation team sent by the trial court was passive and sluggish. In this snowdrifter society, there is no element to force law enforcement agencies to find the killer. Nothing in the Law explicitly obliges Kingdom institutions to seek out those who have harmed others. That is, if there are no applicants and litigants, the trial court will not investigate and will not try.

And right now, within the walls of this spinel academy, the motivation to find the murderer is not really that powerful:

First, the Academy wants to exclude the murderer, who is a kind of turmoil and absurdity that should not exist, and shows some kind of institutional flaw and mismanagement.

Second, the family of the deceased wants to know the truth.

Thirdly, the students, as well as the teachers, and others, all people, are born with an aversion and fear of the murder of their fellow man.

Is any of the above three points urgent enough to be done?

No.

If the killer doesn't continue to kill people in the future, then it would be a "waste of resources" to go to great lengths to find him (for a poor society, nothing to blame), not to mention that the students in the Spinel Academy are more or less of aristocratic blood and clan support. And the living will always be more difficult to cope with than the dead.

So after a small month of investigation, the Inquisition's decision was to recommend that those students who had a good relationship with Terry Goldmane leave Spinel Academy.

There were many people who were not satisfied with this decision, but no one objected.

- Nothing can be done.

There is no object that can be clearly pointed to, and there are too few clues to be analyzed. And so the matter was stopped.

-

Moshi realizes that he is seen as a potential murderer.

Although he was a loner in the first place, he was now excluded. Fortunately, they put their trust in Dino Firesparrow and still huddled around him as a small center. Moshi knew that there were still people who were constantly trying to get more "news" from Dino to support their suspicions.

However, Mo Shi did not do anything.

He had no way to defend himself, so he could only pretend that he was blind to it.

On one occasion, when Moshi tried to ask their law teacher for details about the disposition of the property, the professor did not answer and walked away from him quickly.

For a moment, a distant painful feeling surged in Mo Shi's mind, but what he actually felt at the moment was crying, laughing and angry, and he was about to pass it lightly-

"I'm doing well in my law classes," Opal Zirconium said, walking up to him, "and you might be willing to discuss your doubts with me?"

He turned his head to look at the clear blue eyes.

Opal Zirconium had a smile on his face, and Moshi even felt like he could smell a mild scent of grass and trees in him. He thought maybe it was the explicit smell of Opal Zirconium's in vitro hormones. Opal Zirconium is a Bea, soft, humble, and reserved.

"If you don't mind. Mo Shi asked.

"Why would I mind," Opal replied, "I know you're not that kind of person." ”

"Am I not the one who will kill Terry Goldmane, Feda Duanxi, and Konébian Xuan?"

Opal was not threatened by Mo Shi's sharp tone, as if he really didn't have the slightest suspicion: "It's already spring of snowmelt, I want to try to teach that edelweiss bird to fly again, do you want to help?"

Moshi agreed.

They went to the back garden of the herbaries, where they tried to release the bird.

The opal held it in his hand, lifted it high, and tossed it slightly. The gray-white bird lay sluggishly in the palm of the young man's hand at first, and then panicked.

"I know you're going to use very subtle object-shifting magic," Opal Zirconium panted as he clasped the bird in his hand and looked at Moshi, "Do you think there's any spell that can help?

"I don't think so. Moshi walked over, took the bird from Opal's hand, and tried to lift it, "None of the object-moving magic I know of can work on animals. ”

The edelweiss flapped its wings, struggled forward twice, and fell back into Mo Shi's hands. Throw up, catch, throw, catch, and so on.

Soon he was too tired to continue.

He sat side by side with Opal on the steps of the back door of the herb room to rest, with the Edelweiss perched on Opal's shoulder.

It was a sunny day. Where the sun shines, thin layers of green rise from the ground.

"How's the anesthetic you've been working on now?" Opal asked him.

"I've experimented twice on the rats I caught. Speaking of this, Mo Shi gestured with his hand in the air, "The first time it was successful, it fell asleep soon after taking the potion, and it did not wake up after the knife cut the skin on its back - after about half an hour, it woke up again and there was no problem." But the second time, the rat, it didn't wake up, maybe because I used too much medicine...... I need more experiments and samples—"

"Why don't you get out of here, Moshi?" asked Opal Zirconia suddenly, but his tone was as light and gentle as a breeze, "You're under suspicion here, and you're not having a happy time. Moreover, I have heard that you have been appreciated by His Majesty the King, and it is not that you have left here and have nowhere to go. ”

"I didn't come here to make a living. ”

"So, are you doing it for the sake of learning itself?"

"Yes. The pursuit of knowledge itself. ”

"You want to be a teacher?"

"I would like to be a teacher. I used to be Dino Firesparrow's magic teacher. Mo Shi looked at him and asked, "What about you?" Opal, what are you going to do when you're done learning what you want to learn here?"

Opal Zirconium was silent for a moment.

"I ......," he said slowly, "I have nothing to inherit and no ambitions. I guess my father will get me a position. Maybe you—you, Lord Moshi Toyoho, will leave a vacant seat for me as a retainer in the future, when your position is secure?"

They looked at each other and laughed.

Then they went on to help the edelweiss learn to fly again.

The bird struggled to flap its wings, but eventually failed to fly.

But that afternoon Moshi felt very calm and pleasant.

He forgot everything for a moment. Think of yourself as a real student youth, one of the many snowwalker youths, ordinary and unburdened.

Friends, compatriots......

All of them are beautiful words.

-

When summer arrived, a fourth murder took place.

It was still a student of the White Academy.

His upper body was pressed into the fireplace of his room, and the charcoal fire scorched his clothes and flesh beyond recognition.

"Terry Goldmane and his friends are gone, aren't they? Why do horrible things continue to happen? What are these things aimed at? Who's next?"

Everyone is trying to question.

- These deaths are no longer irrelevant.
