Chapter 204: 7.12 Campaign (3)
I guessed correctly, not long after the 320 Artillery Regiment completed the test firing of Qingshuikou, several red signal flares rose in the sky. Almost at the same time, the whistling of artillery shells and the howling of thousands of Vietnamese soldiers were heard from the direction of the Vietnamese troops.
It is said that at this moment, the soldiers stationed on the front line were taken aback by the scene in front of them......
Although the infantry on the front line received the news that the Vietnamese army was lurking in front of our army's position and was about to launch a large-scale charge, and even the radio rangefinder clearly pointed out that the Vietnamese army's lurking position was not far from our army's defense line, in fact, the infantry on the front line did not believe it very much.
The reason for his disbelief was that the infantry on the front line had generally tested the latent positions of the Vietnamese army.
This is a common method used by our infantry to deal with the Vietnamese army's lurking, and it is also a common method used by the Vietnamese army, that is, to conduct fire reconnaissance on the positions where the Vietnamese army may be lurking.
The so-called fire reconnaissance is actually a little bit of earth, which means using machine guns and mortars to shoot indiscriminately at the forest or grass, and sometimes even firing a few incendiary bombs.
But after several attempts, nothing happened...... Because the infantry received very certain news from their superiors that the Vietnamese army was lurking not far from our army's forward position, the fire test naturally escalated, and the infantry of our army in the direction of Songmaoling even used mortars and machine guns to meticulously "comb" the grass in the forward position several times, but there was still no movement.
So the front-line infantry of our army made this judgment: "There may be only a small number of Vietnamese troops lurking at the front of the position, or the intelligence of the superior is wrong!" ”
Later we learned that some of the commanders even ordered the troops to rest.
This order does seem a bit out of place. But having fought on the front lines, I can understand this.
The psychological pressure to be borne by the troops stationed on the front line is beyond the comprehension of the rear troops. And in this battle. The front-line troops have been under pressure for quite a long time...... It has been three days since the "silence" of the Vietnamese army began, and in these three days, every minute and every second of the soldiers thought that the Vietnamese army was about to attack. This keeps the fighters in a state of tension for a long time, so over time, it is bound to cause extreme mental and physical fatigue.
On the other hand, during the three days of "silence" of the Vietnamese army, there will be a phenomenon of "wolves coming." That is, there are so many worries that the Vietnamese army is really going to attack now, but it cannot arouse the high enough vigilance of the soldiers.
Not to mention. The front-line infantry still used firepower to test the forward positions, but the results did not find anything unusual, which would make a considerable number of grassroots commanders think that this was another false alarm.
Later, according to the confession of the Vietnamese prisoners, the Vietnamese army at this time was lurking in the grass at the front of our army's position, and the closest distance between it and our army's defense line was only more than 200 meters. The firing test of our infantry was actually very accurate in the latent formation of the Vietnamese army, and the two battalion commanders of the Vietnamese army were killed on the spot, and the Vietnamese troops lurking on the front line suffered heavy casualties.
However, the Vietnamese army, which had lost its command, remained silent with astonishing discipline, and none of the lightly or seriously wounded groaned or moved.
It's all a bit hard to believe...... It is not surprising that there are one or two such fighters, in fact, there have been many such examples in the battles between China and Vietnam, and our army has them. The Vietnamese army also has it. But if it is a whole army like this, then this kind of discipline and plain zhì is enough to make any army sigh to itself. Even the agents in my hands are not sure that I can achieve such a process.
But the 316A Division of the Vietnamese Army did it, so this unit really deserves to be the ace unit of the Vietnamese Army.
It's a pity that no matter how good the Vietnamese army of the 316A Division is and how good Su zhì is...... When they jumped into our artillery-dominated trap, they were doomed to failure, and a fiasco.
This also proves that the era when the spirit can defeat a qiē has passed, and in a certain sense, the warrior who blindly emphasizes the spiritual armament is nothing more than the flesh in his clothes in the future of scientific and technological development and high development.
It was precisely because the soldiers on the front line were not psychologically prepared that the sudden charge of the Vietnamese army startled our soldiers.
First of all, I didn't expect that there would be so many Vietnamese troops, and the Vietnamese troops lurking in front of our army's position are generally one or several companies, and this is only the vanguard force, and its follow-up troops are densely packed like ants and overwhelmingly pressing towards our army's defense line.
In fact, even I, the person who set the trap, did not think of this, I thought that the Vietnamese army would get a maximum of 5 or 6,000 people, but who would have thought that the actual number of troops invested by the Vietnamese army was three times as many as we expected.
The second is that the Vietnamese army is closer than imagined to our army's position...... The nearest distance is only more than 200 meters, and the mines laid by our army's rocket minelaying vehicles are even behind them.
However, fortunately, our army is prepared, thanks to the intelligence department of our army, which intercepted the radio of the Vietnamese army again and again, and was able to accurately decipher it, which made our infantry even if they did not believe it in their hearts, but still held the idea of "it is better to believe it than to believe it" and prepare for battle...... After all, it's a matter of your own life.
So the battle began when the Vietnamese army began to charge, and almost at the moment when the Vietnamese signal flare was raised, fierce gunfire and explosions rang out on the line of Lao Son.
It is not difficult to imagine that if this is estimated according to the general situation, it is impossible for our army's defense line to hold out for long.
In terms of the infantry of the Vietnamese army, their strength was several times that of our army, and they successfully lurked in the front line of our army's position to achieve a very good surprise attack.
On the side of the Vietnamese artillery, they have stockpiled enough shells and artillery that can clear obstacles for the infantry.
Therefore, under normal circumstances, this arrangement of the Vietnamese army should be in a safe place.
But......
Now it is not the general situation, now our army has artillery sighting radars.
"Fire!" As soon as I gave the order, more than a dozen correspondents conveyed my order almost at the same time.
This order was followed by the firing of thousands of cannons, and thousands of shells continued to pour in the direction of the Vietnamese army.
The shells are actually divided into four parts:
Part of it is an artillery regiment of the 4th Artillery Division of our synthetic battalion. The task of this part of the artillery was to strike at the artillery units of the Vietnamese army.
Considering that the Vietnamese artillery is likely to have two or more artillery divisions, and for our army, being able to eliminate as many Vietnamese artillery units as possible as quickly as possible is the key to reducing casualties...... Once the Vietnamese artillery is eliminated, our artillery will be safe, so we can concentrate on dealing with the Vietnamese infantry.
So I don't think it's enough to fight the Vietnamese artillery with only one artillery battalion of the composite battalion. Therefore, an artillery regiment was transferred from the 4th Artillery Division to carry out the task of destroying the Vietnamese artillery together with the composite battalion.
Of course, this task has its peculiarities. First of all, the artillery units carrying out this task must be able to strike at the Vietnamese artillery quickly, accurately, and ruthlessly. Secondly, and more importantly, when the Vietnamese artillery is eliminated or largely eliminated, our mission will be completed.
At this time, it is impossible to play with so many artillery pieces and shells in the artillery position, which is undoubtedly a waste of resources.
Therefore, the troops carrying out this task should be precisely the mobile units in the artillery, that is, they will be used to strike at the Vietnamese artillery when needed, and when the Vietnamese artillery is eliminated or temporarily suppressed, it will carry out other tasks.
The other part is the 320 artillery regiment.
The task of the 320th Artillery Regiment was relatively simple, that is, to use artillery fire to shine on the Qingshuikou area and bomb it again and again. Their task was to make it impossible for any Vietnamese troops outside Qingshuikou to enter, and not a single Vietnamese army inside Qingshuikou to get out.
Obviously, this will make the Vietnamese army cut in two, unable to reinforce each other.
The third part is the main force of our artillery.
This part includes howitzers, cannons, rocket artillery, etc., and hundreds of artillery pieces of various types roared angrily in the direction of the Vietnamese army.
Of course, at this time, because the vanguard of the Vietnamese army had already strangled with the front-line infantry of our army...... This was due to the fact that the latent positions of the Vietnamese army were very close to our defense line, and within a few minutes of a charge, almost all the positions of our army were in close contact with the Vietnamese army.
It is clear that at this time our artillery could not support the front-line positions, because this would cause accidental damage to their own people.
So we can only use artillery to block the front of the position and strike at the follow-up units of the Vietnamese army.
The Vietnamese army's troops, the vanguard troops, that is, the troops lurking in the front line of our army's positions, are only at the company and platoon levels...... Too many lurking troops will be discovered by our army. This is followed by battalion and regimental strength.
This configuration is of course reasonable, once the battle starts, the company, platoon-level troops lurking in the front of the position will first attack the enemy's position, so that the enemy can not effectively organize defense, and take advantage of this time the follow-up battalion and regimental forces are following up, so that the enemy's position can be quickly taken.
But this is a joke for our defense.
The first thing that came into play was a large area of mines laid by our army at the front of the position...... Although these mines are all bare on the surface and can be easily removed, this is a defect of rocket minelaying vehicles, which simply eject mines into a designated area.
But the problem is that these mines are so numerous and dense that even if the devils can clearly see and distinguish them, it is difficult to ensure that they do not step on them under their rapid charge, not to mention that it is not yet bright at this time, and they can be said to have no time to tell which mines are under the pressure of bullets and shells.
Later I learned that the Vietnamese commander's solution was to have some of them charge forward and throw grenades forward, and all of them were not allowed to stop, and they had to charge as fast as they could. (To be continued......)
