Chapter 17 Altitude Training (5)

The training went very smoothly.

After all, the foundation of the joint venture is good, and there is still a lot of practical experience, what they lack is all kinds of inadaptability to the plateau environment.

This discomfort improved immediately after they got their mindset right and we started adaptation training in stages.

For example, altitude sickness, which is common among the fighters, improved immediately when we descended to an altitude of 3,000 meters, and many fighters went from a sick and wilting state to a vigorous state after only two days.

Another example is the problem of different bullet offsets due to thin air...... This has formed a conditioned reflex for the fighters, which is deeply imprinted in the minds of the fighters, and it is difficult to change it for a while.

There is no trick to this, just feed it with bullets as you did when you first started practicing shooting, and when you hit too much, a new conditioned reflex will naturally form in your mind.

This may be difficult for the troops of the 319th Division to do...... Feed with bullets, where did you get so many bullets on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, it's good to have a few live shots a year.

First of all, the development of this plateau is extremely backward, and the living conditions of the common people are not good, which makes our army not only have to transport bullets and shells, but also food and other daily necessities have to be transported from the interior, and this has brought great pressure to logistics.

The second is that transportation only relies on a few simple roads for thousands of miles...... At this time, there were no railways, and there were not even roads near the war zone, and transportation was entirely dependent on human or animal power.

According to Staff Officer Li, during the self-defense counterattack against India in '62, the entire Eastern Theater had only 60,000 tons of military supplies. And 30,000 tons of them were hoarded in advance. The whole counterattack was fought. In just over a month, only 22,000 shells and 700,000 rounds of ammunition were consumed.

It's also a counterattack. In the self-defense counterattack against Vietnam, our army consumed 1.06 million artillery shells and 55 million rounds of ammunition in less than a month.

This also shows how difficult it is to resupply on the Tibetan Plateau.

But these were not big problems for us, and the Black Hawk helicopters were nothing anyway while we were in acclimatization training, and the pilots were idle, so without saying a word, they took on the task of transporting supplies for the synthetic battalion.

You must know that the Black Hawk helicopter can lift a maximum of 4,000 kilograms of heavy loads, even if the transportation capacity is halved on the plateau, there are 2,000 kilograms, and more than 20 Black Hawks make two round-trips...... The amount of ammunition it carries is basically enough for us to practice.

Just like the oil seller said, "only the hand is familiar", and the effect of feeding these batches of bullets will soon come out. Within a few days, the fighters had almost adapted to the new offset, and it could even be said that a considerable number of men had better marksmanship than they had been on the plains.

It's easy to see why...... The thin air has less resistance to the bullet, which means that the ammunition is straighter or more accurate and has a longer range. On the plains, the 81 bar, which has a range of only 400 meters, is not a big problem to hit 450 or even 500 meters on this plateau.

This is especially true for SVD sniping, but these can only be established in windless conditions.

After training like this, it only took more than a month for us to go to Base 3 again.

At this time, when the soldiers saw this No. 3 base again, they couldn't help but feel a lot, because a month ago, they only ran here for less than 3,000 meters before they passed out, which was a great shame for them. Now when they stand here again, it is no longer the Wuxia Amon of the day.

In fact, if you want to talk about feelings, it should be Staff Officer Li and Battalion Commander Chen who feel more deeply.

More precisely, it should be all the commanders and fighters of the first battalion...... Because in the past month, they have personally experienced the process of winning the synthetic camp to being caught up by the synthetic camp and even now being overtaken.

"Battalion Commander Yang!" looked at the soldiers of the synthetic battalion who were already far ahead of the front on the runway. Staff Officer Li smiled bitterly: "Originally, I thought that you would have at least two months, but I didn't expect it to be only one month...... You will be fully adapted to life on the plateau. Now it's even better than we are. I'm ashamed to say that this battalion that is training with you is the top soldier of our 319th Division! ”

I already knew.

This is partly because of the importance of the tasks that we are likely to carry out in the future...... Although we do not yet know what the mission is at this time, it is conceivable that this mission is likely to affect the relationship between Japan and India, and if one is not handled well, it is very likely that another battlefield will be opened, which is absolutely undesirable for our country, which is still at war with Vietnam and the Soviet Union on the other side.

For such an important task, the 319th Division naturally would not send a unit to participate in it casually.

On the other hand, it was because of this period of training that I saw something in the first battalion.

What makes me a little strange is that there has been no fighting on the Sino-Indian border since 62, and it has been more than 20 years now, which means that this battalion should not have much actual combat experience.

But in fact, on the contrary, the 1st Battalion demonstrated their rich combat experience in training everywhere, especially in mountain tracking and combat.

Later, I learned that the first battalion had indeed participated in actual combat, but their actual combat targets were not Indian devils, but poachers...... There are many state-protected animals on this plateau, such as Tibetan antelope, wild yak, etc., whose fur, horns and even bones can bring great economic benefits, on the other hand, the life of the people on the plateau is very backward and poor, so some people take risks to pick up guns and start poaching, and later the poachers even formed an interest group.

This gave the first battalion a chance to fight, and they usually practiced with these poaching gangs who were familiar with the terrain in the mountains.

But even so, our synthetic battalion easily surpassed the first battalion in training.

This is not something I am proud of, after all, the composite battalion is a unit that has experienced so many battles and is built with advanced equipment and modern tactical theory, and it is normal to have more than one battalion.

Of course, I also know that this kind of surpassing is only in training, but in actual combat...... The synthetic battalion is likely to suffer because of the unfamiliar terrain.

From this point of view, our decision to have the first battalion and the composite battalion train together was the right step, because the two units now seem to be complementary...... The first battalion taught the synthetic battalion the experience of plateau and mountain warfare, and the synthetic battalion taught the first battalion the concept of modern tactics.

"It's time to talk about the mission we're going to do!" I said to Staff Officer Lee.

"This ......," Staff Officer Li replied a little helplessly, "I also want to know." ”

As a soldier, of course, I know one thing, that is, don't ask more questions if you shouldn't ask. But now I feel like it's time to ask.

"That's what I thought!" I said, "Maybe the superiors didn't know that the training of the synthetic camp was progressing so quickly, so they didn't plan to tell us about the mission until now." But the reality is...... We have reached the time to know the task, and only when we know what task we want to perform in the future, or what requirements we have, can we do some targeted training. What is your opinion? ”

After thinking about it, Staff Officer Li nodded: "What the battalion commander said is reasonable, I will report the situation to the division commander immediately." ”

Things turned out to be as I imagined, and Division Commander Wu then called me, and he said in a tone of disbelief on the other end of the phone: "Battalion Commander Yang, I heard that your synthetic battalion has completed adaptive training?" ”

"Yes!" I said, "I'm sure they're ready to do the job!" ”

"Good." Division Commander Wu paused and replied, "This is much faster than we thought, but it also proves that your previous opinion is correct, and the synthetic battalion is more suitable for this mission." I'll take a trip to the base tomorrow and we'll meet. ”

"Yes!" I answered.

Later, I learned that the reason why Division Commander Wu wanted to meet "tomorrow" was because his location was a full seven hours' drive from our base, which was one of the reasons why Division Commander Wu had never met with me, after all, there was also a situation on the front line at this time, and as a division commander, he was not suitable to rush to the rear of thousands of miles unless he was absolutely necessary.

My first reaction when I heard that was...... Why don't we let our Black Hawk helicopter pick it up?

But in the next second, it quickly became clear that the Black Hawk helicopter was a secret weapon, and it would not be exposed to the Indian devils until the best time.

"Here's the thing!" After exchanging a few words with me, Commander Wu and I sat down in front of the map and pointed to a place and said, "The location where the Indian side has made a move is here, on the north bank of the Sandro River. It was a detachment called the Special Services in India, abbreviated as SSB, that provoked the incident.

I will first introduce this special service, which was established in 63 to be responsible for reconnaissance and intelligence gathering on the Sino-Indian border, and most of its original members were veterans who had fought with us in 62 and had excellent appearances. ”

Hearing this, I couldn't help but sigh, India's move is quite powerful, and some of the veterans are selected to form a force...... Although the Indian army's appearance back then was really not flattering, it was still possible to pick up the tallest among the short ones, not to mention that these people were quite familiar with the tactics of our army because they had fought with our army.

"They started by setting up a post on the Sandro River." Division Commander Wu continued: "At first, we didn't care too much, thinking that it was just for observation or temporary hiding, but this year they did not withdraw, not only did they not withdraw, but also used the Mi-26 to strengthen the fortifications, it seems that they are going to be stationed for a long time, this is a big problem!" (To be continued......)
