Chapter 50: Stepping on Thunder

"That's a good point!" After the meeting ended, Company Commander Luo walked to my side: "Originally, I was worried about whether you could be a good company commander...... After all, organizing is a bit different from fighting a war, so rest assured now! ”

"What to report to the battalion headquarters?" I asked.

"Here we go!" Company Commander Luo glanced around with some reluctance and said, "This is about to leave the battlefield, and I am really a little reluctant!" ”

I shook Company Commander Luo's hand in understanding.

Just like I will be a little sad when I leave the second platoon, of course Company Commander Luo will also feel this way, especially after Company Commander Luo goes to the battalion headquarters, it can be said that there are fewer opportunities to meet with the soldiers.

"And ......" Company Commander Luo said, "you ...... It's good to see that the idea of two with three dozen is very good, I think it can be promoted throughout the army, you won't mind! ”

"Of course not!" I say.

"One thing I want to warn you!" Company Commander Luo nodded and said, "A meeting like this...... Don't forget about the instructor! ”

"Hmm!" When Company Commander Luo mentioned this, I remembered the instructor who was always hiding in the rear...... Thinking about how many times I have to cooperate with him in the future, I can't help but feel a big headache.

To be honest, it's okay for me to be a company commander and lead soldiers to fight...... If I am asked to deal with these people and things, it will only affect my mood for the war.

Company Commander Luo patted me on the shoulder as if he understood my feelings, and said with a smile: "I believe you can handle it, just tell me if you have any difficulties......

"Yes!" I hurried to one step forward.

I'm not such a stupid person, of course I know what the subtext of Company Commander Luo's words is, and it will be much better to have him as a battalion commander in the future.

"Company commander!"

"Company commander!"

……

I don't know when. The trenches were already full of soldiers from our former second company. All of them are here to say goodbye to Company Commander Luo!

They still shouted the company commander one after another...... This is not to say that the soldiers did not know that Company Commander Luo was already a battalion commander. Instead, I wanted to zuihou and call him "company commander".

The big hands were clasped tightly together, and the hugs between comrades-in-arms again and again made Company Commander Luo's eyes gradually blur.

"Comrades!" Company Commander Luo waved his hand at the soldiers and said, "Follow your Yang Company Commander to fight devils, and one day when we return to China, let's talk about the comradeship!" ”

"Good!" Once again, the warriors hugged each other.

Who is the soldier...... What is said is often what happens when we return home, because this is what each of us hopes for and yearns for.

Walk off the battlefield alive...... That's what we're aiming for, which seems ironic. But it's the reality.

After sending off Company Commander Luo, I began to think about the next battle.

The Vietnamese army didn't know whether it was preparing or summing up combat experience or what it was doing, and it had not come up for a while now. This gave me time for further scheduling.

As I said before, the principle of integrating a platoon of recruits with a platoon of veterans, the first to do this work was the platoon of Scars on the 393 heights.

Of course, this is not a problem for Scar...... In fact, Scar's troops didn't know how many new recruits had changed from start to finish, so he had experience in this matter. So with the cooperation of Zhang Zuoliang and Scar, the platoon soon expanded to more than 40 people, and organized a short meeting to let the two troops know each other, and Zuihou assigned a veteran to lead two recruits...... It's a bit like taking in an apprentice. We don't have time for the group training of our entire army, but it's still okay to do it like this in the way of a master leading an apprentice.

Scar walked up to me and patted me on the shoulder. said: "Brother, there is you! This has become a company commander! ”

I was a little weak in front of Scar, because I knew that his military quality or experience was better than mine, and even his organization and coordination skills were better than mine, and this company commander should be more suitable for him.

It should be said...... Scar is still what I would like to see as a company commander, I would rather be a platoon commander and lead soldiers to fight, and I don't have to think about anything else.

But I knew it couldn't be...... There must be something about Scar that prevented him from being promoted, otherwise he wouldn't have been a platoon commander with his military qualities.

Scar seemed to see through what I was thinking, and smiled easily: "Don't underestimate yourself too much, you should think about it...... After so many battles, which battle can win less than you? Fighting a war depends not only on military quality, but also on the head, and you have a head...... So the soldiers are all obedient to you, and they are willing to fight with you, you know? ”

Since Scar said so, then I can only bite the bullet and go now.

What's next...... It is to pull the integrated haode row up to the 419 high ground to change the defense. The two veteran platoons on the 419 heights were pulled back to integrate.

Because Zhang Zuoliang and all the recruits are very cooperative...... They can't do this if they don't cooperate, just like they said, if they don't have the ability and don't integrate, then all that awaits them is death. Therefore, after the painful lesson of the previous one, all the recruits were very active in joining the veteran army, and very humbly asked their "masters", that is, the veterans assigned to them, for advice.

Then I assigned the combat mission: abandon the hilltop position, the first platoon built fortifications against the hilltop position on the anticline of Heights 419, the second platoon and the machine gun platoon served as fire cover on Heights 393, and the third platoon served as reserves.

The advantages of assigning combat missions in advance are...... The veteran can tell the recruits in advance what to do, such as what to do to build fortifications on the anticline against the hilltop position, what kind of charge is likely to occur, and what dangers there will be...... The cover duty will tell the recruits how to cooperate with the fighters on the anticline, etc.

By switching roles after one or two battles, the recruits quickly know what to do or how to coordinate with the rest of the unit when taking on different missions.

Some might say...... This learning time is so short, can the recruits and soldiers learn it in time?

There is some truth to this consideration, after all, there is a process for learning everything...... However, the difference between learning and peaceful shijie on this battlefield is ...... If you don't learn well, it means death, so this pressure is undoubtedly unprecedented. Under such pressure, the recruits will undoubtedly devote 100% of their energy and attention to the veterans for advice, learning and digestion.

Just like now, once the integration and distribution are completed, the recruits and soldiers will hurry up to ask the veterans this and that, and the veterans will be dragged so that they can't be separated at all......

Of course, this is understandable, this is a matter of life and death, who dares to be a little sloppy?

And this ...... That's exactly what I was hoping for. I believe this continues...... As long as they are alive after a few battles, then they will have a certain ability to survive on this battlefield.

"Report to the company commander!" While the soldiers were busy teaching, the observation post on the 419 heights reported to me through the walkie-talkie: "The Vietnamese devils have sent tanks up!" ”

I listened closely, and there were a few "rumbling" motors on the other side of the mountain.

So I understood what the Yue devils were waiting for, they were waiting for the fire cover of the tanks...... In other words, although this tank cannot exert its mobility in highland warfare, it is still quite strong as a fire cover.

First, its own tank guns and anti-aircraft machine guns are quite powerful, especially many Vietnamese tanks are equipped with rifled guns, which are superior to mortars in terms of power and accuracy.

On the other hand, it is the armor of the tanks that provides the necessary cover for the covering troops and the assault units, as long as these tanks are on the anti-slope and outside the range of our bazookas...... Then we can't do anything about them. The range of this bazooka is only 300 meters, and the wind deflection rate is quite large...... As a result, Vietnamese tanks can generally approach the foot of our army directly.

There is no doubt that in this way, the Vietnamese covering force is much closer, and the charging distance of the charging force is also greatly shortened.

But actually...... There was no need for the Vietnamese army to do this. The reason is very simple, when I realized that our army's artillery was inferior to the Vietnamese army, I had basically abandoned the hilltop position.

Some might say...... Last time, we used directional mines to knock the enemy off the hilltop position, didn't we?

But this method can be used once, twice, but not a third time...... Did the devils know that we had directional mines on the hilltop position, and would stupidly send a large army to let us fight? They only need to send a dozen people up to "step on the thunder" first.

The so-called "stepping on mines" is also a kind of term we have for reconnaissance and demining, and this kind of reconnaissance and demining is a little different from ordinary demining, and ordinary demining should be said to be mostly time-based, and although the danger is high, it is still possible to save one's life by virtue of one's ability. But what about "stepping on thunder"?

For example, directional mines...... This kind of mine is completely in the hands of the enemy because the detonation time is completely in the hands of the enemy, so strictly speaking, it cannot be arranged at all, and the other party just sees someone coming up to detonate it. But here's the problem...... What if we only send a few people up? If it detonates, it can only kill a few people, and if it doesn't...... I could only watch as the directional mines were destroyed.

Because this kind of reconnaissance and demining can basically be said to be sent to death, the soldiers vividly call it "stepping on mines." It means exchanging human lives for enemy mines.

Therefore, directional mines are not omnipotent, and I believe that when the Vietnamese devils attack again, they will use artillery fire to carry out an intensive bombardment of the hilltop position, and then send people up to "step on the mines". Because we don't have an advantage in artillery fire, we can only watch them do it......

Now, knowing that the Vietnamese army had brought in tanks, I am even more convinced that I was right to abandon the hilltop position. (To be continued......)
