Chapter 148: Friendly Casualties

Chapter 148: Friendly Casualties

Bursts of fire, patches of heat......

With these fires and heat waves, there were screams one after another.

No one thought of it...... On the same heights, on the same hilltop position, and even on the same night, it would be burned twice in a row with incendiary bombs, only the difference was ...... The first time it was a company of our army that was burned, but the second time it was a company of the Vietnamese army that was burned.

As a result, the tragic scene that our army had just experienced happened to the Vietnamese army again, everywhere there were Vietnamese troops who were set on fire and running around, everywhere was a terrible shout, and the air was once again filled with a thick smell of gasoline and burning.

I believe that this time the casualties of the Vietnamese army were much greater than those of our company before. The reason is very simple, the previous company was at least divided into several trenches and scattered in defensive formation, and even some of the soldiers of our army had time to dig cat ear holes, which is also the reason why the company still survived more than 50 fighters. However, in order to chase and kill us, these Yue devils in front of them basically concentrated on the trench closest to us......

As the saying goes, "harming others will eventually be harmed", and it is precisely because the more devils want to put us to death, but they are wiped out under the incendiary bombs of our army.

Our soldiers silently looked at the fire on the top of the mountain, and the Vietnamese soldiers who were bathed in the fire, and there was no pity and forbearance in their hearts, and there was only hatred and happiness.

I don't need to say much about the reason...... The comrades-in-arms of the first company were also bombed and burned by the Yue devils just now, and now we will also give the Yue devils a trip like this, that is, to treat them in the way of others, that is, to avenge the dead and wounded comrades-in-arms. That is the liberation of hatred and happiness!

But...... If we think about it. These burned Vietnamese troops were not the ones that burned our army. It can even be said that both of us are soldiers who are actually acting on orders...... But where do the soldiers think so much when they are angry, what we think in our heads at this time is actually very simple: the more devils beat us, we have to return them exponentially!

So...... On this battlefield, the soldiers did not have much enmity with each other, and as they fought, this enmity became deeper and deeper.

Company Commander Luo waited for a while, and when the fire on the hilltop position was about to be extinguished, he waved his pistol and shouted, "Comrades! Come on! ”

"Rush!"

……

The warriors screamed and rushed to the top of the hill again, but this time there was no need for such a loud shout. Because it can be said that it is easy to recapture the position this time, our group almost came up to sweep the tail and collect the corpses.

Just as our company occupied the 119.7 heights again, a large number of shells were fired towards the 278 and 332 heights in the rear, and then the earth-shattering shouts of killing rang out again in all directions...... This time the offense was real.

By daybreak, our army had occupied the three heights on the front of Sabah.

I would love to say that this battle was fought very well by our army, or that we took these heights with very few casualties...... However, this is not the case.

It should be said that after our company captured the 119.7 heights and annihilated the remnants of the enemy on the 119.7 heights, our troops had an advantage over the Vietnamese army in all respects.

In terms of troops, our army can almost be said to have killed chickens with a knife, with one regiment against a company on the 278th high ground and four platoons on the 332nd high ground...... It is said that after the war, many officers of our army could not believe that there were only such a small number of troops on these two heights, but the fact was that the corpses and prisoners of the Vietnamese army added up to such a small number of people.

In terms of firepower. Our army has two mortar batteries, plus fire support from a howitzer battalion. It can be said that in artillery has an overwhelming advantage.

In terms of topography...... The Vietnamese army may have the advantage, but after the 119.7 heights were completely occupied by our troops...... The iron triangle defense of the three heights has been broken, and in the middle of the year, our army even brought up a few Type 54 anti-aircraft machine guns to the 119.7 heights...... This anti-aircraft machine gun is the kind I used to blow up the artillery positions of the Vietnamese army before, and the name of the Soviet style is the Deshka type, and in our army it is called the Type 54.

The machine gun was fired at the 119.7 heights, and then waited in the position...... As long as a tracer bullet was pointed at the corresponding target, the Heavy would shoot at the end of the tracer bullet, like an autumn wind sweeping away a leaf, and the target would be destroyed in a few strokes.

Here I have to talk about this tracer bullet...... The so-called tracer bullet, as the name suggests, is a bullet that will drag out a ray of light, which is similar to an ordinary bullet, except that it is equipped with chemical agents, such as phosphorus and magnesium, at the tip or tail of the bullet...... After the bullet is fired out of the barrel at high speed, these chemicals glow in the dark because the bullet moves at high speed in the air, and the friction between the tip of the bullet and the air creates a high temperature that ignites these chemicals.

What does it do...... As I've said before, it's about directing your allies in the dark, such as some of the more difficult firepower points...... A string of tracer bullets hit it, which is to tell the friendly target to be at the end of the light, so the anti-aircraft machine gun and mortar that can't see the target from a distance will be smashed into that position one by one!

Tracer bullets are something that too many recruits like to use, because they all feel that this bullet is majestic, and it will glow in strings at night, and it is like a commander to indicate the target for our army's long-range fire...... But in fact, if you think about it a little, or ask the experience of the veteran, you will know that this bullet is a deadly thing, because while indicating the enemy's firing point, it also exposes its position under the enemy's gun and muzzle.

However, even if our army has so many advantages, it can even be said that the great victory of our company on the 119.7 heights has greatly boosted the morale of our army and suppressed the arrogance of the Vietnamese army...... After finally taking the two high grounds, the number of casualties was even more than that of the Vietnamese army......

This result was not only a surprise to the superiors, but also a surprise to us, and even the troops involved in the war found it difficult to accept.

However, I should still be glad that my company did not participate in the subsequent general attack because of the 119.7 heights, because I later learned from the participating troops...... The Vietnamese defense on the high ground was very good at using underground tunnels combined with surface fortifications, using side-firing fire, reverse fire and other methods to throw the attacking troops into confusion and suffer a large number of casualties.

The so-called side-firing fire is to use the tunnel fortifications to ambush on both sides of the open field, and when our troops attack to the corresponding section, they suddenly emerge from the tunnel fortifications and shoot at our troops from both flanks.

The firepower is even more desperate, and it is also a tunnel fortification, but this fortification is hidden on the offensive line of our army, even if our attacking troops pass over their heads, they will not make a noise, and when our army has gone through a certain road...... Then he suddenly came out of nowhere and fired at our troops from the rear.

All of these caused heavy casualties to the two battalions that attacked the 278th and 332nd heights, and they were also the points emphasized by the two battalions when reporting casualties.

I can understand the reason why these two battalions emphasized the tactics of the Vietnamese army, after all, they could not accept that their troops had to pay so many casualties to take these two heights with such a big advantage...... On the one hand, it can make the superiors feel that the casualties are excusable, and on the other hand, they can also make themselves feel more comfortable.

However, I believe that the change in the tactics of the Vietnamese army is only one reason for the heavy casualties of our army...... My company did not participate in the attack on these two heights last night, so I had the good fortune to see the whole attack from the hilltop position...... But this also seems to be unfortunate......

Because I saw a lot of scenes that I didn't want to see: Vietnamese troops firing from the side and against our troops...... Our troops are always in chaos, and this confusion does not mean that they are greedy for life and afraid of death, on the contrary...... They also bravely fired back in the direction of the Vietnamese army's firepower.

However, the Vietnamese army quickly retreated into the tunnel after bursting out of the bullet, so this "return fire" was directed at their own people who were charging on the other side. After being attacked, they will think that the other party is a Vietnamese army...... So he "fought back" again......

Originally, I thought that it would not take much time to capture these two heights, just like our army captured the 119.7 heights, and it should take time to clear the Vietnamese troops hiding in the tunnels on the heights...... But the battle was fought until dawn, and it was not until dawn that the various units clearly identified each other, and the situation of the battle began to become clear.

Therefore, most of the casualties of our army were actually not fought by the Vietnamese army, but friendly casualties of our army after its own chaos.

"They're all recruits!" Scar said this: "I didn't have much training before the war, and I hit it as soon as I pulled it...... Who will play clearly? ”

Scar is of course right, on the battlefield is often not more people, not which side is braver, not whether the mind is good or not...... What is more important here is the overall coordination, the tacit understanding between the troops, and whether the team can be brought into play......

In these respects, our army is still much worse than the Vietnamese army.

But what can be done about it? These are not just a slap on the brain, shouting two slogans, or having a meeting to emphasize it, it requires pre-war training and time.

I think the old man must have been aware of these conditions in our troops, for I remember when he spoke of the battle...... He often sighed bitterly: "What can be done about this? Sweat less before the war, and bleed more during the war. The battlefield is like this, you can never hope that the enemy will cater to us, but you should try to adapt to the enemy's style of play...... How to adapt? With your life! There is blood! ”

It's very simple to say, and I didn't feel much when I heard it before, but now that I think about it...... But I feel that every word is heavy, like a hammer, and the words are knocked on the heart! (To be continued......)
