Chapter Ninety-Four: Training
The next day, the training officially began.
The first was the training of infantry to follow tanks...... Infantry follows tanks, which is a very common form of infantry coordination on the battlefield. To put it simply, because the tank has poor perception and adaptability to the battlefield situation, it cannot do without the infantry at any time, otherwise it will be easily destroyed by enemy anti-tank weapons.
Infantry followers: In terms of situation, there are foot followers and vehicle-mounted followers.
Foot following is used when entering unsafe areas or when speed is not required, and it is obviously safer because the infantry is walking on foot around the tank, and the targets are scattered and react quickly, and enemy fire cannot inflict many casualties. The downside is that the speed of progress is slower.
Car Follow...... As the name suggests, the infantry is driven quickly in tanks. The disadvantages of this way of following are obvious, one is that the target is too concentrated, the infantry has to gather on the tank armor in order to ride the tank, and because the tank armor is hard, so the bullets and shrapnel from the enemy will produce a large number of ricochets to kill the soldiers on the tank at the first time. The second is the slow reaction speed, and the infantry must have a disembarkation action when the enemy situation is discovered, and then they can rely on the surviving forces to organize defense.
Therefore, this type of following is generally used in relatively safe areas or for battles that require speed, such as intersperse.
Let's practice hiking first...... It was aimed at the situation that the tanks exposed in the counterattack were always detached from the infantry and were blown up by the Vietnamese army.
So the tanks drove in front, the infantry in the rear, and the tanks were separated by more than 20 meters, so that they lined up in a column and drove along the rugged terrain on the training ground...... The reason why it was so separated was that it would not allow enemy artillery fire to strike, and secondly, it allowed the infantry to have room to maneuver between them.
I and several tank and infantry staff officers followed the team in several jeeps along the way...... The jeeps in which the staff officers rode carried a communications officer. They use walkie-talkies to constantly give instructions to tanks or infantry to correct their mistakes.
In addition to a communications soldier, I also had a clerk and a guard with me in the back of the car. The security guard is responsible for the security of the chief...... I didn't want to bring it. Because it would make the jeep look cramped, but the staff officers meant it...... In wartime, it is very likely that our army cadres will become the target of attacks by enemy agents, so this guard must be brought.
Then bring it with you, but I was thinking to myself...... If any agent really tries against me, I don't know if I'm protecting the guards or the guards protecting me.
As for this paperwork...... Then don't think about it, just follow the training content of the record training situation.
Originally, I wanted to bring Zhang Fan, but considering that the training ground is a serious place, although it is not a good thing to bring female soldiers...... But the fighters all know my relationship with Zhang Fan. And then they think to themselves...... We were eating dust behind the tanks under the sun, but the battalion commander was playing the elephant and driving the jeep around in front of us......
All right! As a battalion commander, I have to pay attention to the impact no matter what I say, so I left Zhang Fan at the command headquarters. Zhang Fan was unhappy about this, but her advantage was that she would think about problems from someone else's point of view, so she didn't need me to explain at all to understand my approach...... So the upset is only for a while, and it will pass quickly.
Watching the troops run a few laps like this, I felt that something was wrong, and immediately stopped the troops and gathered the main cadres to my side.
"What's going on?" I said: "Look at the current situation as if it is easy for infantry to follow tanks, and there will be so many problems on the battlefield in weishenme?" ”
"Maybe it's because we're in real time right next to us!" Ding Chengdong said: "The terrain and roads on the battlefield are different from the training ground, and sometimes you can't see after turning a corner on the road. So it's more difficult to command! ”
"Maybe that's one of the problems!" I nodded and said, "But that's not the whole story, I think if you follow the warriors like this." Even on the battlefield or on the road in Vietnam, there will not be such a big mess! ”
What I mean by chaos is that the separation of infantry from tanks on the battlefield is a very frequent and common thing, which is why I find it strange...... It stands to reason that as long as the tank is not too fast, there is no reason why the infantry cannot keep up.
"Battalion commander......" At this time, Huang Jianfu, who was sweating profusely, took off his tank hat and said, "Can I say a few words!" ”
"Say!"
"Actually, the tank and the infantry are always separated...... There are two reasons for this! After a pause, Huang Jianfu continued: "One is the problem of communication equipment, we do have headphones and microphones in the tank cap, but because of the quality problem, sometimes the sound is very noisy, and the noise in the tank is too loud, sometimes it is really inaudible...... There have been such examples on the battlefield, the wooden bridge broke after a tank at the head of the platoon passed through the wooden bridge, and it drove all the way forward without noticing, and all the tanks behind were left behind, no matter how it was called, it was useless! Zuihou's tank had to go a few kilometers to react, only to be ambushed by the enemy! ”
"Hmm!" I nodded, but I'm sure that's not the main reason.
"Another reason...... Huang Jianfu glanced at the people around him, and said with some embarrassment: "Sometimes the tank is forced to abandon the infantry ......"
"Hmm!" When I heard this, I couldn't help but be stunned: "You mean that the tank deliberately dropped the infantry?" ”
"Nor can it ...... Say so! Huang Jianfu swallowed a mouthful of saliva and replied with some difficulty: "Our tank soldiers are very aware of the firepower situation of the infantry, one squad of infantry has four 56 and a half, two 56 rushes, and one squad uses a machine gun and a bazooka. This firepower is too far from that of the Yue Devils, so the infantry can only be suppressed in a fight, and most of the time they can only shrink behind the tank to avoid bullets...... So is it the infantry covering the tank or the tank covering the infantry? Don't think about the next thing, we are like a living target for the devil, and if we don't leave, we will only wait for death...... In addition, we also know that most of the anti-tank weapons of the Vietnamese army are also bazookas, and the accuracy of this thing is not very good, so the faster the tank, the less likely it is to be hit, so the tank soldiers will step on the accelerator intentionally or unintentionally on the battlefield, which will naturally leave the infantry! ”
"Oh!" After listening to Huang Jianfu's words, it suddenly dawned on me that the problem of this infantry following was not only poor coordination, but also the fundamental reason was that the firepower of our infantry was not enough to provide cover for the tanks.
Think about it, if the infantry cannot play a covering role in the tank, and the tank is blown up by the enemy again and again under the "cover" of the infantry, then after a long time, it will naturally lose confidence in the infantry's cover, so the coordination will be useless.
Thinking of this, I said to the clerk next to me, "Write down, the infantry firepower is not enough to provide cover for the tank!" ”
"Yes!"
The solution to this problem is undoubtedly to strengthen the firepower of the following infantry, as well as the ability to respond to attacks and effectively suppress enemy fire.
So another targeted training jihua was soon introduced:
The first is the intensification of infantry firepower...... This is not difficult for our battalion, the second company is mostly equipped with AK47, and the only thing to replace is a company composed of new cadets (because the soldiers of the second company want to keep the original number, so the company of the new cadets has become a company), which makes Zhao Jingping transfer a batch of 56 to rush up.
But here's the problem...... Some of the tactics that our battalion has summarized now are often used for the whole army, and it is obviously impossible for the entire army to be equipped with 56 punches, and the Type 81 rifle will not be equipped in batches until 83......
So we wrote in the tactical general that the infantry who were tasked with following the tanks should be equipped with 56 punches with high firepower as much as possible.
The second is to design some emergencies similar to exercises to improve the adaptability and suppression ability of the infantry tank.
For example, without telling the trainees in advance, the other trainees were allowed to act as the Blues in ambush halfway through...... Of course, neither side distributed bullets, but in order to get as close to actual combat as possible, a staff officer was sent to shoot a shuttle into the sky when the battle began.
All right...... At this time, I realized that the empty cartridge ammunition was also useful, and I used to think that the exercise of playing the empty cartridge was like acting, but now I realize that the real situation is not the case.
Take the training of our troops, for example, in the absence of empty ammunition...... The trainees did not have the feeling of entering the battlefield when they encountered a "surprise attack", only heard a limited burst of gunfire, and then organized a counterattack because the Blues could not shoot, so the Red Army could not find their ambush location at all, and of course did not know which direction to go or what tactical formation to use to organize a counterattack.
However, the problem was quickly resolved, and with the addition of empty ammunition, the training soon became realistic: a mixed infantry unit marched on the mountain road...... Suddenly there was a burst of gunfire under unforeseen circumstances, and the Red Army immediately realized that it was being ambushed, and immediately organized a counterattack relying on tanks, while the commander judged the distribution of enemy fire according to the gunfire and the light of the fire and made various appropriate arrangements......
Zuihou is to educate both infantry and tank crews in the necessary ideology, so that they realize that tanks and infantry are interdependent on each other on the battlefield.
For infantry...... Protecting a tank is equivalent to protecting yourself, because the tank can provide cover and powerful firepower for infantry. And for tanks, the cover of infantry is also the basis for their survival on the battlefield. Therefore, both sides must have confidence in each other, just as infantry comrades-in-arms give their flanks safely and securely to their comrades.
Of course, this ideological work is a headache for instructors. (To be continued......)
