Chapter VII Artillery Observers
Chapter VII Artillery Observers
Some people may say, what role can the dozen or so Vietnamese soldiers play? Can a dozen Vietnamese soldiers stop a regiment?
To be honest, this is indeed possible, just like we can stop several regiments of the Vietnamese army with a company at the pass in Dai Nai Mountain, because the war of this era is more developed in individual weapons, so as long as there are suitable geographical conditions, coupled with sufficient ammunition and military quality, it is not a strange thing for a dozen people to stop a regiment.
What's more, these dozen or so Vietnamese troops do not need to stop our army for long, and other units of the Vietnamese army will soon catch up from all directions.
So the battle soon began, and with the order of Company Commander Luo, a Type 56 machine gun spewed flames at the dozen or so Vietnamese soldiers...... The reason why only one machine gun opened fire was because the enemy was more than 600 meters away from each other, and only machine guns could get it.
In fact, our troops did not have only one machine gun, but just like in the previous battles, most of the machine guns were distributed on both sides of the position to form crossfire, controlling the road or the front of the position. This makes it possible for only one machine gun to work in Xiangshang.
Of course, the sniper rifle in my hand will also work...... The advantage of a sniper rifle is that it has an advantage in range and accuracy, and it is easy to move, unlike machine guns, which are likely to cause weak points once they move.
So I didn't think much about it, I ran around the side with my gun in my hand, found a suitable spot and set up my gun.
However, when I set up the gun, I found that the Yue devil had already fallen on the ground and hidden...... The machine gun just now only killed one Vietnamese soldier, which is not to say that the machine gunner was inaccurate, but that the machine gun was a long range of firepower. However, the vibration of the barrel and body of the gun is often caused by the bullets fired behind it to fly randomly. This is the reason why Weishenme machine gun veterans usually like to use burst fire, and burst fire is only used when the enemy is too dense or the fire is suppressed.
Apparently. Our troops started fighting, and this machine gunner was not a veteran. Therefore, his shooting not only did not achieve the desired effect, but served as a warning to the Vietnamese army.
But I didn't care that much at this time, I had already focused all my energy on the Vietnamese soldiers lurking in the grass.
The grass is not very dense, maybe because of the previous battles here, the grass has been sparsely cut by bullets or shells, but the problem is that the distance between the enemy and us is too far, so it is still difficult for me to find a target in this place with the devil lying on his stomach.
But I'm not worried about that, because I know that these more devils have to move after all, otherwise they will lose the meaning of ambushing here.
Really. As the troops of the 168th Division approached the lurking point where they were, they threw a volley of grenades down the road......
"Bang!" At that moment, the gun in my hand went off.
My position is the flank of the Vietnamese army, and the flank means that the trajectory of the grenades they threw will be clearly in my eyes, so I don't have to think about it...... On the other side of the trajectory, the devil is hiding.
After the first shot, I heard the exclamation of the deputy division commander not far away, because he had been observing the battlefield with a telescope, so it was clear that my shot had hit the target.
But...... What made the deputy division commander even more surprised was still to come, because the next period of time was the time when the devils were waiting for the grenade to explode, and at this time they did not continue to throw the grenade, and even at this time they did not shoot with their guns......
However. I then fired two shots in quick succession and knocked down two Vietnamese soldiers who were lurking.
I didn't spot them, I just noted their location the moment they threw their grenades.
In fact, I've made more than three notes. Just as I was aiming my rifle at the fourth target, the machine gun rang out again...... I couldn't help frowning, the machine gun bullets did hit the grass, but no one knew how much damage those aimless bullets would do to the Vietnamese soldiers lying on the ground, on the contrary, they hit the grass and shook everywhere......
This quickly disrupted my vision, and the grass was shaken by machine gun bullets, which meant that the Vietnamese troops lurking in it could change their hiding ground as they pleased, without fear of being spotted by me.
So the machine gun at this time was a threat to the enemy, but it was a source of interference for me.
"Da Da Da ......" At this time, the battle quickly began.
It was the soldiers of the 168th Regiment who fired the shots, and after they were bombarded indiscriminately by the grenades of the Vietnamese devils, of course they knew that there were Vietnamese troops lurking next to them, so they quickly organized troops to fight back.
Seeing this, I couldn't help frowning, and shouted to the deputy division commander not far away: "Deputy division commander...... Order the 168th Regiment not to organize resistance, and to continue without caring about anything! ”
The deputy division commander couldn't help but be stunned, but soon understood what I meant, and immediately asked the guards to set up a radio to contact the troops.
It should be said that the troops of the 168th Regiment stopped to organize a counterattack is a normal reaction of a unit, just like a person who is lightly knocked on the nerve of the knee will naturally lift his legs...... It's just that if they do this, they are in the hands of the devils.
To know what is the most dangerous thing about the 168th regiment right now? In the modern battlefield, a large number of people is often not a good thing, but will become a kind of target -- the target of artillery bombardment.
Once the vanguard of the 168th Regiment stopped to counterattack, the troops behind continued to squeeze forward because they did not know what was happening in front of them...... So they'll soon be crammed together on this stretch of road.
"Attention all! Attention all! I heard the deputy division commander shouting over the walkie-talkie: "Don't pay attention to the ambush of the Vietnamese army, repeat, ignore the ambush of the Vietnamese army, go all out to break through the fire blockade of the Vietnamese army, and reach the bridgehead is victory!" ”
At this moment, a bullet I fired knocked down a Vietnamese soldier who stood up and fired at the 168th Regiment, which also made the 168th Regiment soldiers realize that someone was covering their retreat, so they quickly rushed forward along the road desperately......
Although some of these soldiers constantly fell under the grenades or indiscriminate guns thrown by the Vietnamese army, the deputy division commander and I both knew that this decision was right: at least half of the dozen Vietnamese soldiers had been killed by us, and they still had very limited ammunition, so even if the soldiers of the 168th Regiment stood in front of them and let them fight, how many Vietnamese soldiers could kill?
On the other hand, if you want to clear these Vietnamese troops and then advance, it will be very capable of causing the entire regiment to suffer heavy casualties under Vietnamese artillery fire.
The facts soon confirmed our thoughts, because with a scream, a shell exploded near us.
I quickly realized that this was long-range artillery fire from the Vietnamese army...... This can be judged by the smoke and dust that explodes when the shells explode, and the long-range artillery fire is high and wide because the shells are large and come from a long distance.
But what about Weishenme will have only one shot? This is the test firing of Vietnamese artillery.
Although long-range artillery can shoot far, hitting far also means a problem: the artillery cannot directly see the target and adjust the elements, which requires artillery observers to determine the enemy's position in the front, and then report the elements to the rear artillery positions.
And there are still some problems...... In order not to waste shells, the artillery positions in the rear and the artillery observers in the front formed a cooperative mechanism -- test firing.
To put it simply, the artillery observer reports a Zhuyuan, and the artilleryman first tries to shoot one or two shells, and the artillery observer will constantly correct the Zhuyuan according to the deviation of the landing point of the shell, so that after a few times, a large number of shells will soon come over.
None of this is surprising, as is the fact that our artillery fire also takes such a method when bombarding the enemy, just like a few artillery observers from our company who just arrived...... That's what they do.
What makes me strange is...... The Vietnamese army's test-fired artillery shells actually hit our high ground...... Of course, I would not have thought that the target of the Vietnamese artillery would be us, of course their target was the 168th Regiment.
However, if the shells will hit us, it means that the target of the Vietnamese artillery shells should be near the bridgehead or on the road at the foot of our high ground......
From this point of view, the Vietnamese artillery observers can clearly see our area. In other words, it is very likely that the artillery observers of the Vietnamese army were among the dozen or so Vietnamese soldiers interspersed here.
So I quickly locked my sniper scope on the grass in front of me again...... I had to get rid of that artillery observer in time. Otherwise, give him a little more time to correct the landing point of the shells in time, and the road or bridgehead will soon be blocked by the artillery fire of the Vietnamese army, and the soldiers of the 168th Regiment will never be able to pass!
But how to find out the Vietnamese artillery observers and kill them? This is another headache for me.
Artillery observers can't have words written on their heads, and even if they do, I can't see them...... It quickly occurred to me that the few artillery observers who had just been assigned to our company were all equipped with a pair of binoculars, and even two of them were holding high guns to the mirror.
It is impossible to bring this line with the gun-to-mirror, the target is too obvious, but the telescope will definitely have it, after all, they have to accurately observe the landing point of the shell and correct it in time.
So we didn't look for anything, we just searched the grass for the telescope.
With a target it was much easier to find, and I quickly found a pair of binoculars wrapped in rags behind a rock...... At this moment, two shells were heard in the sky again......
This time, the shell landed only a few hundred meters away from the road under the high ground, which means that it is very likely that he only needs one more correction to successfully block the road.
So...... I only have one chance. (To be continued......)
