Chapter 2 Fighting Jiazi Again

The Second Battle of Jiashishan was fought in October 1942. Taking advantage of the Japanese army's build-up of troops to "sweep" the anti-Japanese base areas, and the coastal army and civilians were nervously preparing for the opportunity of countering the "sweeping" and "encroachment," together with the recalcitrant bandits Zhu Xinzhai and Li Yanxiu, a total of more than 4,700 people, like a pack of wild wolves, they attacked us again on the Riju Highway in South Vietnam on 8 August, in an attempt to make a comeback and reoccupy the Jiazi Mountains.

Under the personal command of Zeng Guohua and with the cooperation of the Sixth Regiment and fraternal units, the 2nd Brigade of our Mountain Column organized this anti-stubborn campaign.

Soon, the recalcitrant army divided into two routes and attacked the Jiazi Mountains in a pincer offensive. One route captured the areas of Huangdun, Tanjing and Cuijiagou from north to south, and approached the main position of Jiazi Mountain; Occupy Xue Qing, Wentuan, and Caoling all the way, and approach Fupeng Mountain.

Relying on the favorable terrain, our Sixth Regiment relied on the favorable terrain to tear apart for a day, repelled three fierce attacks by the recalcitrant army, and then withdrew from the battle that day and night due to the lack of ammunition supply, and transferred to the main peak of Jiazi Mountain to hold on.

On the morning of the next day, the recalcitrant troops of the west and north roads jointly attacked our Puwang position, and the main force of the 6th Regiment of the 2nd Brigade of our Mountain Column was caught in a flanking attack. At this critical juncture, Zeng Guohua, who was personally commanding the front line, called the 4th and 5th regiments: "I ordered your regiment to come to Jiazishan immediately to support. ”

After receiving the order, the 4th and 5th regiments of the brigade of our army immediately launched continuous attacks on the enemy from Sanhuang Mountain and Shangjian to cover the withdrawal of the 6th regiment from the Puwang position. The 6th Regiment withdrew to Fupeng Hill that night and rushed to build fortifications. At this time, the 3rd Battalion and 9th Company of the 4th Regiment of the 2nd Brigade also rushed to reinforce and launched an attack on Caoling and Xueqing on the southwest side of Jiazi Mountain on the evening of the 12th, in coordination with the 6th Regiment of the 2nd Brigade of the Mountain Column......

In the headquarters of the Shandong Military Region, Luo Ronghuan, Zhu Rui, Chen Guang, Li Yu, Chen Shiyu, Xiao Hua and others were looking at the map and discussing. Luo Ronghuan spoke first: "Comrades, Sun Fatzi took advantage of the opportunity of the devils to 'sweep' and 'encroach' on us, and made a comeback, and the momentum is not small!" ”

Zhu Rui immediately said: "Comrades, Chairman ** sent us a telegram on 15 August, saying: 'All avoidable frictions between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party in Shandong must be avoided. We should not be involved in the Changenduo incident. Do you want to refer to this again? ”

"I don't agree with the withdrawal. Even if you withdraw, you have to beat him hard before withdrawing! Chen Guang said with a glare.

Xiao Hua looked at the three leaders of Luo, Zhu, and Chen, who had just spoken, and then turned his face to Li Yu and Chen Shiyu and nodded: "Deputy Political Commissar and Chief of Staff, let me say a good word first: I personally think it is better to let go of this Jiazishan first." He sat down.

Li Yu's face was dazed: "Could it be that you just gave up?" What a pity! ”

Luo Ronghuan said with a smile: "It's not giving up, but an extension of a 'flanging tactic'." I flipped it up today, and I flipped it back tomorrow. ”

"Alright! I then ordered him to be beaten up and withdrawn from the fight. When Chen Shiyu said this, he said to the radio chief on the side: "Quickly send a telegram to the troops in Jiazishan, and the telegram: 'Because the Japanese army has swept our coast, our army will stop fighting on both sides in order to avoid fighting on both sides. But before withdrawing, beat him up hard. He also guided the 3rd Battalion of the 4th Regiment of the 2nd Brigade to return to Hailing to carry out anti-'sweeping' and anti-'encroachment' tasks. 'That's all right! ”

"Okay, that's it!" Everyone spoke in unison.

On the night of 18 October, the troops of our Eighth Route Army, which insisted on Jiazi Mountain, took the initiative to withdraw from their positions and moved to the area of the waterlogged slope on the east bank of the Shuhe River to assemble. The Second Jiazishan Anti-Recalcitrant Campaign lasted eight days, fought more than 20 times with the recalcitrant army, killed and wounded more than 366 recalcitrant soldiers, and our army suffered more than 120 casualties.

In November 1942, Sun Huancai, who had fled to the north of the Riju Highway, with a strength of about 5,700 men from four regiments and two brigades, took advantage of the enemy's general sweep of China's base areas in Shandong Province and the concentration of forces in China's coastal areas to actively counter-sweep and seized the opportunity to invade and occupy the Jiazi Mountainous Area, which was about 50 miles in length and breadth.

Sun Huancai continued to engage in great friction with our Eighth Route Army, actively expanded its strength, rushed to repair fortifications day and night, and used the so-called "meat ball" tactics to attack us step by step, destroying the anti-Japanese democratic regime, and hunting down and killing our local workers, especially our rural cadres and enlightened people.

In order to consolidate the coastal anti-Japanese base areas, get rid of the passive position militarily, and more effectively deal with and smash the enemy's sweep and encroachment, and in the name of supporting Wan Yi, at the suggestion of Luo Ronghuan, the Shandong Sub-Bureau and the Shandong Military and Political Commission decided to launch the third Jiazishan Rebellion Campaign to recover the Jiazishan Mountains with superior forces.

Before the war, Zhu Rui, secretary of the Shandong sub-bureau, presided over a meeting of senior military cadres, and after Zhu Rui made an important speech at the meeting, he asked Luo Ronghuan to make arrangements.

Luo Ronghuan, commander of the Shandong Military Region, stood up and said: "In addition to the 111th Division, the troops participating in the battle also include the 115th Division, which has just been transferred back from northern Jiangsu, the 2nd Brigade, the 6th Regiment of the 5th Brigade, the 6th Regiment of the Special Service Regiment, the 5th Regiment and the 6th Regiment of the 2nd Brigade of the Shandong Military Region, the Independent Regiment of the Binhai Military Division, and the Juzhong Independent Battalion. Below is Comrade Chen Guang giving the battle order. ”

Chen Guang stood up with a bright face: "Yes!" Four columns were now formed: the left column was commanded by Chen Shiyu, chief of staff of the division and commander of the Binhai Military Region, and the two regiments of the Shandong Military Region and the Binhai Independent Regiment to attack from east to west; The right column was commanded by Brigade Commander Liang Xingchu and instructed the Fifth Brigade to bypass Zhulu and Liujia Dongshan from the east and capture the stone field where Sun Huancai's division headquarters was stationed, and the center blossomed. ”

"Yes!" The Way.

In addition, Zeng Guohua of the Central Column commanded and instructed the 6th Regiment of the 2nd Brigade and the 5th and 6th Regiments of the 2nd Brigade of the Shandong Military Region to capture Zhifang and Xuanzikou from the west; The roundabout column was commanded by Wan Yi to outflank Jiazishan and Zhifang in Shannan from the west by the 111th Division, the Juzhong Independent Battalion, and other local troops from the three counties of Japan, Jiangxi, and Ju, to cut off Sun Huancai's rear road, and to monitor and block the enemy's support in the north. ”

The battle began at 10 o'clock in the evening of 17 December, when the right column instructed the 13th Regiment of the 5th Brigade to launch an attack on the stone field.

The Central Column instructed the 6th Regiment of the 2nd Brigade to capture the Rotary Pass with heroic movements; The 5th Regiment of the 2nd Brigade of the Mountain Column quickly captured Sanhuang Mountain and cut off the way for the rebels to break through to the west; The 111th Division of the roundabout column captured the main peak of Jiazi Mountain and the positions of recalcitrant troops such as Zhaojia and Liu Jiacai; The 6th Regiment of the 2nd Brigade of the Left Column took control of the positions of Fupeng Mountain, Yunding Mountain, and Puwang, preparing to intercept the enemy who was reinforced from the north to the south, and to defeat the traitor Zhu Xinzhai who came to reinforce him.

After a while, he taught the Fifth Brigade to capture the recalcitrant pillbox in the stone field, and then defeated its repeated counterattacks, killing and wounding more than 300 recalcitrant soldiers, and we also suffered more than 100 casualties.

Then, he instructed the 2nd Brigade and 6th Regiment to attack the site several times without defeat; At the same time, the 5th Regiment of the 2nd Brigade of the Mountain Column captured some pillboxes west of the Zhulu River and annihilated more than 200 recalcitrant troops.

At dusk, the Fifth Brigade was instructed to focus on attacking Liujiadong Mountain, but repeated attempts at blasting failed; The 115th Division's Special Service Battalion and the 1st Regiment of the 2nd Brigade and the 1st Regiment of the 2nd Brigade captured Maodun and annihilated the enemy.

The remnants of the traitor Zhu Xinzhai were aided from the north and south of the Riju Highway, and were defeated by Wan Yi's division in the floating shed Shandong. At dusk that day, the recalcitrant troops in the precipices before and after the giant peak, the dustpan mouth, the head of the North Mountain and other places retreated to Liujiadong Mountain and Zhifang, and were annihilated by the main force of Wan Yi's division and the first branch of the Anti-Japanese University. After three days and nights of fighting, our army has taken control of the main positions on Jiazishan. The recalcitrant army was forced to retreat to the central area, concentrating on key points, and trying to stubbornly resist and wait for reinforcements.
