62 Covert Operation: North (Central Plains)

We soon passed through Tongguan and entered the Central Plains.

As soon as I got out of Tongguan, my eyes suddenly opened up, and a thousand miles of plains appeared in front of me.

The land of the Central Plains is as flat as a mirror, and the altitude slowly decreases from west to east, making people feel the urge to run.

It was the first time I walked freely on the land of my hometown.

But it didn't go right in the first place, because there was no way. The railroad is gone, the royal road is gone, the masonry road is a pile of rubble, and the fields next to it are a puddle of broken soil, and it is impossible to tell what is what. The fields were full of ruts, like whip marks on the prisoner's body.

The trees in the field are conspicuous, they are bare, the crows have bent the dead branches, and the dead leaves are blown by the wind and piled up under the trees, in the corners of the walls, among the stones.

The filthy dead leaves could not hide the rotting corpses, the swollen corpses ripped through the tattered clothes, and the occasional wild dog could be seen gnawing on them.

The wild dogs were frightened away by the tummella on the side, and there were still fine pieces of cloth and long hair in the grass.

Our convoy was driving on a black field, which was the result of being burned.

We wanted to take the royal road, but when we arrived, we found that the wide royal road had been blown into potholes.

In fact, the roads of the entire Central Plains were destroyed, all the bridges were destroyed, and even the railroad tracks were stripped and melted into arrowheads.

As we walked, villages passed by our car.

The Central Plains is indeed the Central Plains, the villages are so dense, and the richness is the first in the world, but after a few days, I have never seen a trace of cooking smoke in those villages.

Those are empty dead villages.

Some of the villages were burned to the ground, while others were left in ruins.

There was no one in the village, and there was no one in the township.

We walked through a few towns to replenish our food, but found that there was nothing we could do.

The streets are littered with discarded shoes, fallen glass, broken masonry.

The shops on the street have been looted, broken wine flags flutter in the wind, and glassless windows "clang".

Occasionally you can see one or two people and run away immediately when they see us.

I even saw people coming out of a hole in the ground.

The hole was covered with a stone slab, and when he saw us, he immediately retracted it.

We arrived at the first county in the Central Plains - Wangjing County.

From afar, her tall walls were intact, and so were the gates.

But when you go inside, you can see that she has completely changed, like a gentle woman to a vicious dominatrix.

The locals were completely reduced to slaves being bought and sold—and that's if I assumed there had been no massacre—and the shops inside had been turned into prisons, and the Royal Army in chartreuse uniforms were clamoring for men, women, children, and looting.

We replenished our food and water sources and left this miserable place.

All the way through Tan County, Shaanxi County, Xia County, Xiadong County, Ningyi County, Mianchi County, Mianbei County, Mianshui County, Yima County, Xin'an County, Luodong County, Yi County, Ling County, Tong County, Mengjin County, Xima County, Yanshi County, Gongyi County, Xingyang County, we came to Luoyang City.

Luoyang still amazes me, she is like a mountain, a monument, a lighthouse, she guides people like the North Star.

I picked up the binoculars and looked at Luoyang, and the city wall dozens of meters high was full of the Central Plains Provincial Flag of "Dingding Central Plains", the Hebei Provincial Flag of "Saiwaiyan Zhao", and the Mansion Flag of "Zhao County Zhao"; Soldiers dressed in Central Plains and Hebei uniforms walk around the city walls; Some officer-looking men pointed downward.

Outside, the allied forces of the provinces surrounded Luoyang.

They blew up the walls, but the black powder couldn't leave even a single scar on her reinforced concrete walls.

They wanted to dig tunnels, and they dug so deep, but they still dug into the moat. After drowning a group of people, they simply emptied the moat.

They continued to dig the tunnels, but no matter how deep they dug, the foundations of the walls remained! So they decided to bury the walls by mounds of earth.

Countless people braved the bows and arrows on the city wall, carried a basket of dirt on their backs, ran under the city wall, threw it away, and ran back immediately, and so on.

But after throwing it for a few months, it was only a dozen meters, and it was still a long distance from the city wall.

The besieging troops had no way out and were prepared for a siege of several years.

We went north from Luoyang, passed through Wei County, Zhengbei County, Xinzheng County, Lanling County, Xiling County, Xinfeng County, Xinwu County, and arrived at Kaifeng City, the new capital of the Central Plains.

We looked at the city wall of Kaifeng from afar, but we didn't go in, because it was the headquarters of the generals of the various armies, and we didn't want to cause trouble.

Continue north, passing through Jinshui County, Shangjie County, Tangnan County, Tangbei County, Yingnan County, Yingbei County, Runan County, Xiangnan County, Xianbei County, Yucheng County, Xixi County, Yanzhou County, Kaocheng County, Rubei County, Gujian County, and finally to my hometown Luobei County.

At my suggestion, the convoy entered the county seat of Luobei.

I have been to the city a few times, and I still remember those magnificent restaurants and hotels, and the yamen of the county government.

Now things are not people, the shops on the street are stationed with foreign troops, and the various pedestrians on the street are not even speaking the Luobei dialect!

The people in the county who despised the countrymen so much at the beginning are finally the same as everyone else!

All the Luobei people are gone!

I didn't hear a single Luobei person speak Luobei dialect in Luobei!

Get out of the county seat and continue north.

I didn't go to my Zhaojiazhuang because I knew that her fate would be the same as the thousands of villages I had passed.

Look what she does, grieve in vain.

We came to the edge of the Yellow River.

The Yellow River is quite powerful, and many pontoon bridges have been washed crookedly, and the people on them are cautious.

The river is still surrounded by early winter reeds, with a lot of white foam in the bushes, and occasionally white-soaked corpses can be seen in the foam.

We walked along the Yellow River for a long time and finally found a restored iron bridge.

After showing the Royal Army's pass and letter of introduction, the group finally arrived in Beiyang County, on the north bank of the Yellow River.

We came to Hebei Province.
