Volume VII The means of mending the heavens are slightly exerted 34 thousand xing

In the book review area and the post bar, I saw that the students had a very heated discussion on Xiao Deng's employment, and some students thought that Xiao Deng did not reuse Ji Zongzhou and Pan Xianer, which was inevitably a little too generous to tolerate people.

Personally, I think so:

Many of the intellectuals at the end of the Yuan Dynasty regarded themselves as Yuan people, and the courtiers of Meng Yuan regarded Meng Yuan as orthodox. To give two examples, one Liu Ji, this should be the most famous intellectual in the late Yuan Dynasty, but before he voted for Zhu Yuanzhang, he actively offered advice to Meng Yuan, spared no effort to assist Meng Yuan's local generals, and vigorously suppressed Fang Guozhen and others. Liu Ji's resume is as follows:

In 1333, Liu Ji was only twenty-three years old when he was admitted to the Jinshi, and his teacher Zheng Fuchu once said to his father: "This son must be the door of the high public!" The secretary and supervisor revealed Manshuo and said to people: "This Wei Zheng and the like, and Yingte is too much, and the future will be a time machine." ”

In 1336, he was a county governor in Gao'an County, Jiangxi, and was an honest and honest official, and was famous for fighting the powerful. However, it is inevitable that because of the status of the "southerners", they will be excluded and attacked everywhere in the officialdom. At the age of twenty-nine, Liu Ji reviewed a wrongful life and was sentenced to change the original sentence, so he offended the prosecutor and was transferred to the official Peng Shi. In the second year, he was forced to resign due to differences of opinion with the shogunate bureaucrats, and soon he was promoted to the deputy promotion of Confucianism in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, the provincial examiner, and several times wrote to impeach the imperial history for dereliction of duty, which was obstructed by the minister of imperial history, and Liu Ji resigned again in anger.

In November 1348, Fang Guozhen first raised troops in Taizhou, Zhejiang, and the corrupt and incompetent ruler of the Yuan Dynasty, in order to suppress the peasant uprising, was forced to appoint Liu Ji as the capital of the Marshal of Jiangsu and Zhejiang Province. Once Liu Ji was reused, he also devoted himself to serving the Yuan Dynasty, and he suggested building Qingyuan and other cities to suppress the rebel army; And vigorously opposed the appeasement, proposing: "The Fang brothers are the first to be in chaos, and there is no punishment if they are not punished!" Fang Guozhen was terrified because of this, and bribed Liu Ji generously, "but it." Liu Ji refused to accept his bribe. Fang Guozhen failed to buy him, so he sent people to Dadu by sea to bribe the important ministers of the court with a lot of money, so that the court issued an edict to appease him. Therefore, the Yuan court charged Liu Ji with "losing the will of the Son of Heaven and remembering Yuan Yuan", removed him from his position, and detained him in Shaoxing Mansion. Liu Ji was so angry that he wanted to commit suicide several times, but fortunately, thanks to the desperate resistance of the doorman Mirisa and others, he was able not to die.

Fang Guozhen took advantage of this opportunity to develop his own strength, and the peasant armies in other places also revolted in response, and Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces restored Liu Ji's official position in desperation, and first ordered him to "recruit Anshan Kou Wu Chengqi and others". Liu Ji recruited "volunteers" on his own and adopted the method of suppressing and appeasing them to carry out bloody suppression of the rebels who refused to obey the order. Later, he and the provincial Privy Council sentenced Shi Mo Yisun to each other's horns, mutual support, and jointly attacked Fang Guozhen, because of the suppression, he was successively promoted to the Privy Council and Langzhong by Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, but when it was reported to the imperial court, the people in power in the court excluded the Han people, and under the pretext that Liu Jiyuan had only served as the deputy promotion of Confucianism, and he could only move to the governor's office according to his seniority, but in fact, he was demoted, and lost his military power.

Three ups and downs, hitting walls everywhere, Liu Ji was disheartened with the Yuan Dynasty, and in despair, he put the statue of Yuan Shizu on the case, and bowed to the north and said: The minister did not dare to bear the Shizu Emperor, it was really because there was no way out. He fled to Qingtian in the seventeenth year of Emperor Shun of Yuan (1357).

He once said: "I am angry with Fang Guozhen and Zhang Shicheng in my life!" ”

In his poem "The Second Rhyme and Meng Bo Zhen Xing", he wrote: "In the past five years, there have been hundreds of battlefields in Jianghuai, and it is always hurtful to raise your eyes. I have heard that there are many thieves like ants, but the officials and soldiers are like wolves. Another example is written in "Wen Gaoyou's Slogan": "I heard that Gaoyou has withdrawn from the siege, but I am worried that Huaidian has not fully returned." The holy pilgrimage is gentle, and the generals should know what is wrong. ”

It can be seen that he is dedicated to serving Meng Yuan, but he can't use it.

Even after returning to his hometown, he still did not change his loyalty to Meng Yuan, on the one hand, he gathered his hometown to practice self-protection and guard against Fang Guozhen's attack; On the other hand, he wrote angrily and wrote 10 volumes and 18 articles of "Yu Ion" to see his ambitions. "What is the one who is depressed? Away from fire, the image of civilization, with its text is depressed, for the governance of civilization in the prosperous era, so it is called "Yu Ion". ”

It was not until the twentieth year of Zhizheng, that is, in March 1360, that he was called by Zhu Yuanzhang to go to Jinling, and since then he has been able to give full play to his wisdom. And it is said that he was still unwilling to answer the call at first. Zhu Yuanzhang sent to invite Liu Ji out of the mountain was a capable minister under him, named Sun Yan. Liu Ji was reluctant to come out at first, and Sun Yan sent him a sword, which meant that if Liu Ji insisted on refusing to go out of the mountain, then let him watch it. Is it suicide? Or wait for Zhu Yuanzhang to cut off his head? The choice is yours. Liu Ji had to go out of the mountain at this time.

At the end of the Yuan Dynasty, intellectuals like Liu Ji abounded. If Liu Ji is a first-class representative of the strategist, then the other one, Yang Weizhen, is a representative of the literati at the end of the Yuan Dynasty. A very famous scribe. It is called the Iron Cliff, and it is the leader of the poetry circle at the end of the Yuan Dynasty. He is also from Zhejiang. He has been a minor official, and when he was an official, he was also very honest and wanted to do something for the people. However, Zhang Shicheng later rebelled and summoned him many times, but he never answered the call. This was true even after Zhang Shicheng surrendered to Meng Yuan. He still refused to answer. Maybe in this, he has the meaning of protecting himself, but his disgust with the righteous army is also self-evident. Mengyuan orthodoxy, there have been disputes, and there are those who take Mengyuan as orthodoxy. Yang Weizhen wrote to Meng Yuan, although he thought that Song should also be orthodox, but he also admitted that Meng Yuan was also orthodox.

Liu Ji made great contributions to Zhu Yuanzhang, but when Zhu Yuanzhang was a hero, why did he only give him the title of Earl of Sincerity? If you don't give him a prince, why don't you even give him a marquis? There is a suspicion of the hero, but I think it should be more because of his past experience. Why is Zhu Yuanzhang disrespectful to intellectuals? Employing some torture? I think that in addition to his consolidation of power and his origin, it should also have something to do with the fact that many intellectuals at the end of the Yuan Dynasty were loyal to Meng Yuan. is like Zhang Shicheng's name, there is an anecdote, that is, Zhu Yuanzhang reused Wenchen, saying that he knew the truth that he could not rule the world immediately. One of his old people was not satisfied, so he said that the name Shicheng was insulted by literati. "Shi, Cheng villain also." This anecdote may be true, and it may be echoed by people at the time, but why is there such a statement? It was also because the literati at that time were loyal to Meng Yuan, and it was difficult to gain the trust of the rebels. Naturally, this is also due to the historical limitations of the time, and it cannot be said that these literati are wrong. At that time, the concept of the state and the nation had not yet been formed. Moreover, the Red Turban Incident killed quite a few landlords and wealthy families, and it can also be regarded as the class enemy of intellectuals. Not only at the end of the Yuan Dynasty, there was no dynasty that did not call the rebels "thieves" and "rogues", and the root of it was that even if the rebels rose up, the landlords and gentry bore the brunt. They were the beneficiaries of the existing system, and of course they were hostile to the rebels.

Therefore, whether it is from the nation or not, "drive out the Tartars"; Whether it is class or not, the majority of the unprofitable make the minority of the profiteer, for Zhu Yuanzhang and other rebels, and for most of them intellectuals, they cannot be trusted. After entering the Ming Dynasty, there were still many intellectuals who refused to go out of the mountains, preferring to live in seclusion and regard themselves as the remnants of Mengyuan.

In short, at the end of the Yuan Dynasty, the heroes rose up together, drove out the Tartars, and restored China, who was the real hero? Is it a literati and a Confucian scholar? Are they strategists like "Calling the Wind and Rain, Liu Bowen"? Definitely. The real hero is not Zhu Yuanzhang, nor Chen Youliang, the real hero is the people. * Say: "The people, and only the people, are the driving force that makes history." "Honestly! If there was no monstrous momentum of the people's uprising, there would be no figures such as Zhu Yuanzhang and Chen Youliang; If there is no unstoppable trend of the people resolutely resisting the rule of Meng Yuan, there will be no change in the position of people like Liu Ji.

Therefore, back to our topic, some students think that Xiao Deng seems to be intolerable, in this big climate, it should be understandable that Xiao Deng is suspicious of Ji Zongzhou, right? Moreover, Ji Zongzhou has some skills, but he is not amazing, nor is he like Hong Jixun and Yao Haogu, who are difficult to see and cannot find someone who can be replaced. Moreover, although Xiao Deng was suspicious of him, he didn't just give it up, and still gave him a high position of Yidu Zaizhi, second only to Xiao Mao Pingzhang and Zhao Guo, and he went in and out with him, and many parliaments related to important military aircraft also asked him to participate. In the eyes of outsiders, this should already be considered a very grace, right? Looking at the books, the reason why I feel that Xiao Deng can't tolerate people, I think that it is actually because of Xiao Deng's psychological activities, all the princes have seen it, so they think so. But outsiders, all they can see is appearances. Even if Ji Zongzhou knew that Xiao Deng was suspicious of him, could he go out and talk around? He can only stuff it in his chest, like a person drinking water, knowing whether he is warm or cold. From the perspective of outsiders, he is still a well-deserved and hot Haidong nobleman and powerful minister.

And again, Pan Xianji.

Pan Xian'er betrayed the master to seek glory, not like Ji Zongzhou, who simply opened the city gate. If Ji Zongzhou can't open the city gate, Wang Shicheng will definitely be defeated. And Pan Xianer came up with a ruse of an oxcart formation, causing Pan Cheng to be able to support him for a while, but he was destroyed in a battle, and left a reputation of being ridiculed. If it is ruthless, it is much stronger than Ji Zongzhou. When Pan Cheng was powerful, he was submissive, and he didn't dare to speak out when he was scolded, so he made compromises to survive; But once Pan Cheng was in decline, he made a trick, which led to and contributed to Pan Cheng's downfall. Such a person is like a poisonous snake, watching in the dark, swallowing his anger when he is not powerful, and once he gains power, he will jump up and bite people. Just ask, how can Xiao Deng not feel creepy about this?

However, although Xiao Deng was suspicious of him, he still refused to kill him. and also said to Hong Jixun: This person is talented, don't be a pity. He also gave him the position of the Privy Council of Yidu, which is not high, low or not, and can participate in military aircraft. And there are a lot of old people in Haidong, no other use, but Pan Xianer is used to hold this position, looking at the four provinces of Haidong, in terms of the privy council system alone, this is one of the dozens or twenty people. What is Pan Xianer under Pan Cheng? Strategists and staff only. When he entered Haidong, he entered the hall and became one of the ten or twenty people with the highest military rank. Although this position is far inferior to Monk Li, Tong Shengyang, etc., can Pan Xianer be compared with Monk Li, Tong Shengyang, etc.? He has only voted for Deng She for less than a year, and if he is suddenly promoted to a higher position than Monk Li, Tong Shengyang, etc., it seems that it is unreasonable, right? Therefore, if you compare his qualifications and merits, Xiao Deng can't seem to be said to be a reward for him. What Xiao Deng has to consider is not only to use a Pan Xianer, but more importantly, not to cause dissatisfaction among the old people. When troubled times, reuse will. Of course, the advisors are important, but after all, the army is the most important force.

It was his strategy that led to the downfall of Pan Cheng, but Ju Sheng and others had the credit of combining inside and outside, which was equivalent to offering Yidu, but they were only the members of the Yidu Privy Council. It's true that he had a miracle plan, but it didn't work in the end. At most, it is to let Xiao Deng have a deeper understanding of him. Didn't Xiao Deng also say to Hong Jixun because of this: Isn't it a pity not to use Pan Xianer?

Suppress him first, and then give him some benefits appropriately, so that he knows that Tianwei is unpredictable, and he doesn't dare to treat Xiao Deng like he treats Pan Cheng, and then slowly reuse it. This seems to be the same thing in the past?

The above is a little personal opinion. Students are welcome to submit comments and criticisms.

——

Luo Guoqi, Fang Congzhe and others returned to Yidu with the ship and went ashore in Laizhou.

There were many warships on the sea, coming and going. No matter how you come and go, there are soldiers and soldiers on it, and there are many military flags. Looking at his dress from a distance, it seems that not all of them are water pawns, most of them are foot pawns. There were also a number of ships, from which the neighing of war horses could be heard, and probably also cavalry.

The rain has not stopped, the sea and sky are vast, and the roads are muddy.

came to the shore, and saw more soldiers on the dock. Laiwu is responsible for the transportation with Haidong, and its place has always been very busy. Especially now, when Haidong is vigorously supporting Yidu, it is transporting grain seeds and cattle, and the goods are often piled up. Nowadays, there is not even a single civilian cargo. In addition to the soldiers, there are all kinds of military supplies.

Some of these military supplies were covered, such as firearms, artillery, and other water-phobic things, as well as mines and other relatively secretive and relatively new firearms. Others, such as baggage carts and spears, are not afraid of water, and there is no need to cover them up. It was so directly drenched in the rain. The rain fell in no boundless and washed it clean.

The military flag is clear, and the soldiers are neat. Military flags of different colors guide the soldiers at the head of different battalions, some on the ship, some on the ship, some on the disembarkation.

Luo Guoqi found that the soldiers who got on the ship and the soldiers who got off the ship, looking at their outfits, were completely different from each other. Most of the soldiers on the ship wore a variety of clothes, some wore armor, some wore leather armor, some wore cotton clothes, and some even wore common people's clothes.

The soldiers who disembarked from the ship were dressed in uniform manners. The officers are all bright and brightly armoured, while the non-commissioned officers are all cotton and leather armor. And both officers and non-commissioned officers wear logos.

The officer's logo is divided into two places, one is on the shoulder armor, and the dots are colored, or red, black, or white; One is on the armor on the chest, wearing something similar to a name tag. On the top are all written in the same format, three lines of words, and one line on the head, that is, the name of the battalion head to which the officer belongs; the next line, the officer's official position; On the second line, it is the name of the officer.

The mark of the non-commissioned officer is the same as that of the officer, which is also in two places, divided on the shoulder and on the chest. It's just that instead of color, it's an epaulette on the shoulder. The same is divided into red, black, and white. In addition, the name tag on their chest was not worn, but was firmly sewn to the top of the leather armor. As for the content, it is roughly the same as that of an officer, and there is not much difference. It's just that one line is missing, and there is no title of official position. In addition, there are two more lines, one line is written about the soldier's place of origin, where he lived, and the other line recorded the year when the soldier began to enlist in the army.

Luo Guoqi is very familiar with these two types of military uniforms. The former is the dress of Shicheng's old department; The latter is clearly the elite of Haidong. Red, black, and white, red is a Han pawn, black is a beautiful pawn, and white is a Jurchen. However, when it comes to detail, not all soldiers wearing red epaulettes are Han Chinese.

Because Deng She has a clear provision in the military law: In the Goryeo and Jurchen armies, anyone who has made great contributions, regardless of generals or non-commissioned officers, if they want to enter the Han camp, listen to it.

Not only are there differences in military uniforms, but the flags of Shicheng's old department and Haidong's elite are also very different. The flags raised by the battalion leaders of Shicheng's old department are also very similar to their clothing, just as varied. Some of the direct letters are named after the counties of Shandong, which should be named after the places where they were originally stationed; Some are heroic and outward, quite aggressive, probably a good name given by Wang Shicheng.

Let's take two examples.

Just to the left of Luo Guoqi and the others, there were two old divisions of Shicheng queuing up to get on the boat. The head of the camp a little farther away waved the banner: "The Great Song Yidu Gaomi Thousand Households." The head of the camp a little closer, but the banner was: "The Great Song Yidu is mighty and the tigers and leopards are tens of thousands of households." ”

However, the flags raised by the Haidong elite soldiers who got off the ship were also like their epaulettes and name tags, and when you looked at them, dozens or hundreds of flags of different heights and sizes were exactly the same.

Let's take two examples. On Luo Guoqi's right-hand side, there was a Haidong army that had just finished disembarking and was assembling for training. The number is not much, a hundred and ten, and it should be about the formation of a hundred-man team. A military flag was erected in front of it, which read: "Haidong Du Liaodu commands the Envoy Division A Battalion C Team." ”

campers, thousands of households are also; The team of 100 is also. Further down, the ten-person team also has a flag, but there is no need to write in such detail, just simply write: "What is the C team of the Duliao A battalion." ”

"Something", the word "so" in it, is also based on the heavenly stem of A, B, C, D, and so on. Deng She had earlier stipulated the military system, and in order to facilitate the distinction, the name of Tiangan was only allowed to be used by the Haidong Wuya. Because Haidong Wuya is an elite and field army-like troops, they take Tiangan as their name, first, to indicate their elite status, and secondly, it is also to take the meaning of "good attackers move above the nine heavens".

As for the local garrison army, that is, the city defense army, it is only allowed to use the land branch as the number. First, it means that their elite level is not as good as that of the field army, and secondly, it also means that "the good defenders hide under the nine lands". Tenkan, which represents attack; The earthly branch, which represents defense. The difference is clear.

When a random army or soldier comes out, and when you look at their banners and logos, you can immediately understand the nature of the unit to which they belong.

Compared with the field army and the city defense army, there is another difference between the two, that is, the field army is far more treated than the city defense army. The most elite soldiers, the best weapons, the fastest supplies, and even the highest salaries and the best environment have always been given only to the field army. Moreover, the promotion of officers in the field army is also the fastest.

The field army in Haidong had five yayas before, and now it has two yagongs in Yidu. These seven armies were all under the command of the envoys, that is, the establishment of the Wanhu Prefecture, with a total of nearly 60,000 people. Except for the two yamen of Yidu, one has only been reorganized, and the other has just selected the personnel and has not yet started formal training, these tens of thousands of people today are the main army in Haidong that is the most capable of attacking and fighting so far.

The Haidong army has made outstanding military achievements, and Deng She often gives them a good name. However, unlike Shicheng's old department, even if it has a good reputation, the main banner of the Haidong army is still the number flag with the name of the heavenly stem and the earthly branch respectively. If you have a good name, you can fly two flags. A number flag, a name flag.

In addition, Deng She has always been very cautious about the formation of the field army and the composition of the personnel in the army. In principle, only Han soldiers were selected into the field army.

However, since Haedong already possessed the old land of Goryeo and its influence has gradually developed into a Jurchen gathering area, too much discrimination is not conducive to unity. At the same time, among the Koreans and especially the Jurchens, there are still many fierce and brave soldiers. The Jurchens grew up immediately, lived in a harsh and harsh environment, and were fierce and light to death, which was their ethos. Although the Koreans are a little cowardly and have a large population base, it is not a problem to select some of them who dare to fight and are not afraid of death. There are people who dare to fight, but it is a pity not to use them.

Furthermore, if some Jurchens and Goryeo people can be used in the Wuya, it will be a good hope for their clansmen and those in their clan who are willing to become famous immediately. For Haidong, it is also a kind of attraction and differentiation.

Therefore, after considering the above aspects, Deng She still transferred a part of the soldiers who had military merits and were indeed brave and good at fighting in batches and successively added them to the Wuya. Up to now, there are a total of three troops composed purely of foreign races in the Haidong Five Ya.

One was in the command of the envoys in Duliaodu, and a thousand households were formed by the Jurchens. The other two were composed of Goryeo people, one in the Andong army in western Liao, and the other in the Dingliao army in Korea, and they were also Qianhu.

In the past, there were five chaotic Hua, and recently Meng Yuan entered the Central Plains, and up and down Haidong, not only Deng She, including Hong Jixun, Yao Haogu and others, are actually very wary of foreign races. What's more, the generals in the army, who killed the Tartars, hated the alien race. Although there are only these three thousand households in the five ya, they are still too many.

Hong Jixun once advised Deng She several times because of this. He said: "The army is the important weapon of the country. Those who are not of my race will have different hearts. In the past dynasties, although there were foreign races who served our China, they were indeed loyal. However, even if there are ten loyal alien races, as long as there is one An Lushan, it will be a worry for the country. And I, Haidong, is different from other places. There are many interracial ones. Using them to guard the place, the minister was already very uneasy. If you transfer them to the elite again, let them wear fine armor, pick up sharp weapons, and be on an equal footing with the generals of our Han people. It may be okay for a while, but if it is a long time and the number of people is large, how can it be worry-free! ”

He admonished many times, and even cited the example of Meng Yuan not using Han people as cowardice, and asked Deng She to eliminate all the foreign races in the five ya.

The elite of the Mengyuan had two troops, one Tanma Red Army, most of which were placed in places, also known as the "Mongolian Army". In the north, there were four major Mongol military capitals, Wanhufu. Needless to say, it can be seen from the name that the main force is composed of Mongols. There are also some people with colored eyes. In its non-main establishment, there are also some Han Chinese, but the number should not be too much.

One is the Central Guard, which is the central army formed by Kublai Khan, the ancestor of the Mengyuan Dynasty, in imitation of the forbidden army system of the Central Plains Dynasty. There are two parts, one is the Su Wei pro-army, and the other is the cowardice who follows the old system.

Cowardly Xue can be described as the elite of Mengyuan's elite. It is called the "Great Chinese Army". There are four cowardly Xue Chang, who were commanded by the "Four Heroes" during the time of Temujin. Subsequently, the position of cowardly Xue Chang was also inherited by the descendants of the four masters. The members of the cowardly Xue, like the Lang officials of the Western Han Dynasty, are all composed of the children of high-ranking officials. Its members are also called "Fanshi", the meaning of the upper Fan Shuwei, the Mengyuan custom: "Fanshi" only uses the Mongols, the fixed number is not enough to use the color people, except for the exclusion of the Han people within the scope of the matter, and the southerners.

After entering the Mengyuan Dynasty, Xue Xue did not go on the expedition.

If it is said that this army no longer has the role of going out to war, but simply retains its nature of guarding the palace and following the safari, then the Su Guard pro-army is the real main army of Meng Yuan. "The forbidden soldiers of the Son of Heaven, the guards are inside, and the garrison is outside." It is used to control the light and deter the world. And even in this Suwei army, it is still dominated by Mongols and Semu people.

If it is purely in terms of numbers, the Han people account for the majority, two-thirds. But that's all because there are too few Mongols and Semu people. There is no need for Han people, so it is not enough to "control China". However, if we were to distinguish the position of each of them in charge of the garrison, and the status of the Suwei pro-army, the Han people were still inferior to the Mongols and Semu.

Some of the Han people's guards were not so much the main force as the engineer army, and most of the ordinary tasks were only responsible for night patrols, repairing city walls, and so on. Even so, the predecessors of these Han pro-armies were mostly the subordinates of the Han people in the Central Plains who were the first to surrender to Mengyuan.

Only it descends early, so it can be trusted.

But how many days has Deng Shede Goryeo been? Although it was vigorously promoted, the promotion of sinicization in Goryeo was indeed in full swing; In the end, the time is still short, and the effect of too good has not yet appeared. In such a situation, how can you rest assured that you can use beauties and Jurchens as the main force?

However, Liaodong is vast and sparsely populated, and there are not many Han people. After years of conquest, the population is even more sparse. After the fierce battles with Guan Duo and Pan Cheng, the fierce battles with Wei Sijian, and the many confrontations with Shijiabao and Nahachu, and the two expeditions to Goryeo, the original red scarf pawn also suffered a lot of losses, and gradually became overstretched. Without the Jurchens and Koreans as supplements, it will be difficult to support.

Speaking of which, now Deng She's got Yidu. It seems that the proportion of Haidong Han people has also increased slightly as a result. However, in the battle with Richard, the flames of war spread almost all over Shandong. The civil community has suffered a great deal. Moreover, if there is a large-scale conscription from it, it is not the way to govern the country. The old department of Shicheng that was obtained, and the only people who are available now are the thousands of people left by Bi Qianniu's Yiya and Chen Yu's head.

Why did Deng She transfer the reorganized Shicheng New Army to Haidong, and first left one of Wen Huaguo and Zhang Yi'er's army, and then transferred the elite of several Ya from Haidong? Isn't it because most of the Yidu army was broken after the fierce battle, and it was not enough to deal with the subsequent war? The problem is that this move can be dealt with for a while; However, in the foreseeable future, the battle between Yidu and Chahan will definitely continue for a long time, and the north, west, and south of Yidu are all under the blockade of Chahan.

Use beauties and Jurchens, as a last resort.

Therefore, Hong Jixun's advice is not unreasonable, but unfortunately due to the current situation, Deng She cannot adopt it. And even a while ago, Qing Qianxing in western Liaoning also put forward an opinion to Deng She.

Qing Qianxing's opinion is completely opposite to Hong Jixun.

He gave Deng She a book after learning that Deng She had transferred the elite of Haidong to Yidu. He said on the article: There are few Han people in Liaodong, and there are many beautiful people in North and South Korea. If only the Han soldiers are used as the main force to kill the enemy on the front line, not only will there be problems in the replenishment of troops, but also the Han people will inevitably suffer casualties after long-term battles, and once there are casualties, the number of Han people will be even more scarce. There are few Han people and many beautiful people, which is not conducive to stabilizing the place.

He said euphemistically: "Although the lord's move is to sympathize with the beauties and the newly acquired land, he may also be unwilling to bother them with excessively heavy military service. However, all the Han soldiers were used to plunder the land, and only the beauties were used to defend the city. However, it is very detrimental to the long-term stability of the country. ”

Although the old army of the former Goryeo has been dismantled and reorganized many times, there are still 70,000 or 80,000 people left in its number. Among them, eighty percent of the guarded places are scattered throughout Liaodong, Korea, and South Korea according to the principles of "locals do not defend local cities" and "southerners fight in the north, and northerners fight in the south". The remaining two percent, all specially selected to be particularly good at fighting, most of them are old soldiers, belonging to Chen Hu and Qing Qianxing, all of them are stationed in Liaoyang, and now some of them have gone to Liaoxi with Qing Qianxing.

According to this situation, Qing Qianxing said: "Regardless of the defenders of the city, there are nearly 20,000 people in Liaoyang and Liaoxi. Liaoyang is adjacent to Naha, and Liaoxi is hostile to Shijiabao. There was a lot of fighting in these two places. According to the minister's own eyes, the beautiful soldiers stationed in the two places, all those who encountered wars, braved arrows and stones, committed sharp blades, were born and died, and fought with the enemy day and night without a break, it can be said that they were not inferior to the elite of the five ya. Not afraid of the battle, it is brave; It is the heart of the royal family, and it is for loyalty.

"With such a loyal and commendable pawn, why does the lord have to distinguish them from the elite of the five yas in terms of treatment? Now, the lord has only benefited from the capital, and he has just gone through a bloody battle. The ministers heard that due to the lack of Yidu army, the lord had already issued an edict and ordered the five yamen to cross the sea. The minister thought that this was just a temporary move, and it was an emergency, but it was definitely not a strategy for the old man to seek a country. The essence of Haidong has only five ya. Daily use is cut every day. The beauties of Haidong, more than 10 million! Why not open the door to the army, follow the example of the five ya, select their brave and loyal people, practice locally, if there is an emergency, you can also mobilize them to cross the sea, the sea route is unimpeded, the morning and evening come, and the use of force in Yidu? In this way, one is not afraid of the few Han people in Haidong; Second, the supplement of the worry-free army.

"Moreover, the lord first had the move of the Han people from Liaodong into Goryeo, and the minister heard that the lord now has the intention of migrating the people to Yidu, and the minister is also brave enough to guess the lord's intentions, which is nothing more than the ear of the 'Han and Li family'! Migration is the best policy. But there are tens of millions of beauties, how can they be moved? No matter how many Han people there are, how can they fill up North Korea and South Korea? Sending brave beauties to join the army not only relieves the pressure on the local area and is conducive to stability, but also uses them to fight abroad, isn't it also a good way to weaken it?

"Although the minister is beautiful, since the lord, he has long regarded himself as a man. In the hometown of the minister, someone said: 'Qing Qianxing, Li traitor also.' The minister was not angry, but rejoiced. Why? Non-ministers want to be infamous, they are the lord's talents, their virtues are heavy, and they have the destiny of heaven. Moreover, 'Han and Liben are one family', which is true! Although the minister is ignorant, how dare he disobey the mandate of heaven? Though the ministers are ignorant, they dare not disobey the truth. That's why it's so. Therefore, although the minister was discredited by his hometown, the minister did not think so; And waiting for the praise of the hereafter, it is the minister who rejoices!

"The minister's advice is from the bottom of his heart. He bowed to the table and asked the lord to consider it. ”

"Sending brave beauties to join the army not only relieves the pressure on the local area and is conducive to stability, but at the same time, isn't it also a good way to weaken them by using them to fight abroad?" This statement in Qing Qianxing's book is hinting at Deng She, where are there immortal people in war? Don't just think about the threat of the pawn, but also see the benefits of fighting with the beauty. Dispatched brave beauties from the local area and sent them to the front line to fight, some were killed and some were wounded, which not only reduced the pressure of the local defenders, but also took the opportunity to reduce the number of beauties. Maybe in a war, the beauty will not die too much. The amount adds up, and the number is still quite a lot. For example, the Liaodong Red Scarf, when I first arrived in Liaodong, there were 120,000, but now? Fifty or sixty thousand is good. In the first battle of Yidu, the casualties of the Haidong army were no less than 20,000 or 30,000.

Sending beauties to the army is equivalent to migrating beauties to Shandong. And it saves the trouble of migration, and can use it to fight. Kill two birds with one stone.

Luo Guoqi and Fang Congzhe were at the Laizhou wharf, saw the warships coming and going, and asked the officials who came to meet them, knowing that the one who was transported to Haidong was indeed the Yidu Anqi Ya newly formed by Shicheng's old department ,——. Since there has been no formal training yet, and no formal formation has begun, their clothing and flags have not changed. And those who came from Haidong were indeed the elite troops transferred by Deng Shecai.

Li Lan, the prefect of Laiwu, also waited at the port to greet him.

He is an official in this place, and he is really busy, ushering in the send-off. It also happened to coincide with a large number of troops, coming in an endless stream from all over the country. Busy hitting the back of the head with his foot. Luo Guoqi also knew that he was busy, and he was in a hurry to report to Deng She the specific situation of the envoy to western Zhejiang, so he did not stay in Laiwu for long. Li Lan was originally a guest of Hong Jixun, Luo Guoqi had seen him a few times, and he was not very familiar with him, so he was on the dock, just said a few words to him, declined his hospitality, and then turned to Yidu by land.

As for the first batch of grain that was transported with the trip, there was no need for Luo Guoqi and others to take care of it, and there was a person in charge sent by the province to deal with it.

On the way, from the mouth of the official who greeted him, Luo Guoqi also had a little understanding of the situation in Yidu in recent days. They went to western Zhejiang a year ago, and they came back fifteen years later. In the past 20 days, there have been no major changes in Yidu, and there have been many small changes.

The biggest thing should be the promulgation of the military rank system.

Wen Huaguo and others obeyed Deng She's order and set the rank of twelve. Originally, according to Hong Jixun's opinion, it was the ninth level. Dunshe made some corrections and changed it to level twelve. Broadly speaking, it can be divided into four classes. The highest level is "will", which is divided into three levels; The second class is "school", which is also divided into three levels; The second rank is "Captain", which is also the third class; It is also a "shi", which is also a third level.

It is also modeled on the ancient knighthood system, which is divided into two layers: "low rank" and "high rank".

The first level of "shi" is a "low rank". If you are above the rank of "lieutenant", it is a "high rank". The "low rank" is specially awarded to soldiers. "High ranks" are reserved for officers. However, if there is an outstanding merit, or if a non-commissioned officer has entered a military academy and graduated, the "lower rank" can also be transferred to the "high rank".

"High rank" is divided into two categories. At the school and lieutenant levels, as long as the qualifications are sufficient, they can be promoted. It is tentatively scheduled to be transferred every two years. That is, you can be promoted to one level in two years. The "general" level, also known as the "heavy title", cannot be awarded unless there is outstanding military merit.

Luo Guoqi did not participate in the formulation process of the military rank system, but there were rumors about it. After listening to the official's explanation, he understood the details a little, and he was a little confused, and said: "Listening to my brother's words, isn't this 'military rank system' the same as the previous dynasties and Mengyuan's lord system and scattered official ranks?"

"Just like 'heavy title', there is also a law in the former Song Dynasty: after the military attache is transferred to a martial arts doctor, if there is no officer, this is the 'stop law'. For example, 'school' and 'lieutenant' are also names in the honors system. It's just that the level of 'will' is reduced. What is the difference between this and a loose official? ”

The meaning of his words was vaguely felt that Dun She's doing something too much. Fang Congzhe was also very puzzled.

The official smiled and said: "The system of honorable officers and loose officials in the previous dynasty has no name, but not reality. For example, the Song Commander is an additional official title. Not to mention that most of them do not have real seals, even if there are real seals, they are just according to the number of households that are actually sealed, and they are converted into 25 Wen per month for one household. A little money, why bother? Who will put it in the eye! Just as Lord Hong said: There is no benefit, and it is difficult to motivate the war. The military rank system established by the Lord of the present day. Respectively, according to the benefits. Just like Qin's military exploits, he was knighted. For example, there are three levels of "shi", "shi", which are divided into upper, middle, and lower levels, and each level of promotion can be given a certain number of acres of land or exempted from taxes for several years according to regulations. Under the heavy reward, is there no brave man?

"This is the biggest difference between the military rank system in Haidong and the honor system. And the honors and loose officers are all for officers, although there are also brave generals who rise up on their own, and there are rare and few. However, my military rank system is also given to non-commissioned officers, and they are treated equally; Coupled with the military academy system, the two complements each other, which also gives the soldiers a chance to get ahead. If it is more affordable than acreage, perhaps this is actually the most important. ”

Luo Guoqi groaned slightly, he didn't know much about this change at the moment, and he couldn't tell the difference. Because he asked again: "Shicai, I heard you say that there are three levels of 'shi', called 'upper, middle, and lower'." So, what about 'school, lieutenant' and 'general'? Isn't it also called 'upper, middle, lower'? At this, he smiled. Because I don't think it's possible. The official nodded and said, "Exactly." ”

"This ,......, this is too simple, and it loses the meaning of prestige, right?"

"The lord thinks that instead of choosing a good name, it is better to 'keep it simple'. Wen Pingzhang and other adults actually have a lot of good names, but I heard that they have all been ticked off by the lord. Such as 'General Dragon and Tiger Guard' and the like. The lord said: 'Call it Dragon Tiger Guard, is it really Dragon Tiger Guard?' The way to govern the army is to be concise and clear. Remove all of them, the same as the taxi, and the above, middle, and lower names can be used. In order to declare that Haidong is not vain, but to seek truth. Therefore, 'school, lieutenant' and 'general', just like 'shi', are also named after these three levels. ”

Luo Guoqi and Fang Congzhe suddenly realized. Luo Guoqi said: "I see. Then he asked the generals to divide the seals, "Has the military rank system ever been divided?" ”

The official replied: "Because of the time constraints, only the soldiers who have contributed to the battle of Yidu are now sealed. The Haidong armies will begin about the future. ”

"'Will' is 'retitled', and it is expected that there will be no seal." The school, the lieutenant, and the 'scholar', etc., I don't know how many people have been divided? The highest recipient, it is expected that it should be Wen Pingzhang? ”

"Not bad. Wen Pingzhang was the highest. However, it is not that no one has been given the title of 'general'. The lord believes that Haidong is a big country in the northeast, and it is indispensable to have a 'general'. The absence of 'generals' is not enough to boost morale, nor is it enough to show the might of our Haidong. Therefore, three people were named 'generals' this time. Wen Pingzhang is one of them, the highest, as a lieutenant general. Chen Pingzhang and Zhao Zuocheng are the second, followed by the lower generals. ”

"Chen Pingzhang?"

"Of the Haidong armies, only Chen Pingzhang was sealed this time."

Luo Guoqi understood it and asked him to go on. The official continued: "There are two ranks, 'colonel, lieutenant', and a total of thirty-four people have been knighted. 'School', etc., 12 people, 'Captain', etc., 22 people. The highest level of 'school' is the two marshals Zhang, Li, Bi, and Chen, all of whom are 'senior colonels'. "Zhang, Li, Bi, Chen, Zhang Ji'er, Li Monk, Bi Qianniu, Chen Yutou.

"'School' and so on, there are Tong, Yang, and Gao generals. There are also Guo Qianhu, and Fu Youde, who is new to my Haidong, has also been awarded the title of second-class school. Tong, Yang, Li, Gao Zhujiang, Tong Shengyang, Yang Wanhu, Gao Yanshi and others. Guo Qianhu, Guo Conglong.

The official said to a few people in the 'general' and the 'school', and said: "Wait for the school again, and the captain, the number is very large, and when the adults arrive in Yidu, you can go and see it." The Lord has ordered the Privy Council to write down the names of all the generals who have been appointed as 'generals', 'schools', and 'lieutenants', and to put them on the streets as a sign of grace.

"And 'taxi' and so on. So far, there are about 4,000 people who have been canonized. The least number of sergeants is 800; The second rank is second, in the early thousands. The remaining 2,000 or so are all such soldiers. I wonder if you noticed it at the pier just now? There were a few hundred households of the local garrison in Laiwu, and they were transferred over to maintain order. Among them was the 'shi'. ”

"But how do you know?"

"Surely the adults didn't notice. The difference between the 'soldiers' and the ordinary soldiers is in their epaulettes. The sergeant has three copper threads embroidered, the sergeant has two and the inferior sergeant has one. The logos of 'Colonel, Lieutenant' and 'General' are also roughly the same. The difference is that 'Colonel' and 'Lieutenant' are silver threads, and 'General' is silver stars. In this way, in peacetime, in the army, those who receive military ranks can be respected; If on the battlefield, the commander is killed and there is no other replacement, at that time, the person with the highest rank can take over the command. It is also enough to be in order. Especially if an ordinary soldier is in a stroke, no matter how chaotic the war is, he will not lose his command. ”

Luo Guoqi thought so.

This is a recent reform made by Yidu in the system, in terms of personnel. Two more pieces of news. Wen Huaguo, Zhang Ji'er and others have all gone back to Haidong. After the handover between Wu Henian and Yan Zhixi was completed, he also announced a few days ago that he was officially transferred from the left and right divisions of the province and came to Yidu to take over the position of the prefect of Yidu.

In addition, there is a message. In order to prepare for the war against Chahan, Deng She wrote Haidong a few days ago, named Yao Haogu and several other important ministers, and came to Yidu that day, saying that he was preparing to hold a military meeting. The official was not a member of the Privy Council, and he had heard a little about it, but did not know the details. In a word.

There was another piece of news, but Deng She had already issued an order announcing the establishment of a concubine, so there was no need to say more. However, the official heard a gossip from nowhere, saying that it was because Deng She rejected King Xiaoming's "marriage", and An Feng was very dissatisfied. Liu Futong sent a delegation to Yidu day and night. I don't know if I still want to bring up the old things again, but I still came here for the "marriage" thing.

Last time, King Xiao Ming "gave marriage", it was in a consultative tone, and Deng She could politely refuse. But if this time King Xiao Ming made a clear order, Haidong was afraid that he would refuse again. Speaking of this, the official was very worried about Deng She. Luo Guoqi and Fang Congzhe asked about the ins and outs, and they couldn't help but feel very tricky.

But fortunately, this is just gossip and has not been confirmed. Maybe it's just hearsay? This is the only way for people to explain to each other. The group talked and talked about it, and when they traveled until the evening, they stayed in the neighboring county and stayed overnight. The next day, before dawn, he set off again, and before noon, he returned to Yidu.

Deng She was originally discussing with Hong Jixun, Zhao Guo and others, but when he heard that Luo Guoqi and Fang Congzhe had arrived, he smiled and said to the ministers: "This is our great hero Haidong is back!" And he ordered the men of the mission to come in.

Luo Guoqi and others entered. Deng She praised them, and saw that they were all tired, and knew that the journey was hard, so he said: "Your envoy to western Zhejiang this time not only did not fail in your mission, but also borrowed as much as 100,000 stones, which is really beyond my expectations. You have worked hard. I will have a great reward. Looking at the sky outside the hall, it was almost noon, and he instructed the guards and said, "Tell the dining room to prepare a wine banquet, and invite all the heroes to eat first, and then please go back to the house, rest for a while, and meet your families." I'm sure I'm missing you guys. When I wait for tomorrow's court meeting, I will reward you for your meritorious deeds! How is it? ”

There is no objection from anyone. Bow down and quit.

Deng She left Luo Guoqi alone, and when he saw the members of the mission go out, he praised him greatly, and said: "You came to write a few days ago, saying that you have arbitrarily decided on the purchase of grain, and you are deeply frightened, and ask me to punish you. You have been in the army, and you should know that 'the general is outside, and the king's order is not subject to it.'"

"Since I have given you the power to act on the fly, I believe in your abilities. I am not afraid that you dare to 'make decisions without authorization', and I hope you dare to make decisions without authorization! You're doing a good job. Distinguishing between the important and the important and rationalizing the priorities is not only faultless, but also meritorious. It's for great merit. He deserves to be rewarded heavily. 'Punishment', where to start? ”

Luo Guoqi knelt down and thanked him.

Dunshe called him up, took a document from the desk, ordered the attendant to hand it to him, and said, "You have come just in time." I am discussing the military with the ministers. You are the governor of Yidu Province, and you have also been in North Korea for a short time, so you know the situation there. In my Haidong Army, you are also more familiar. Han Jun, Li Jun, you have all been in contact with. Take a look at this document and give me your opinion. ”

Luo Guoqi took it, opened it and took a look, only to see a sentence on his head, which read: "Please ask the Lord to serve in the army." "The signature at the bottom is Qing Qianxing.
