Chapter 162: Artillery Battle
"Boom!"
A few days later, our tests of the gun-sighting radar began in earnest.
As I said before, we contacted the troops on the front line in advance and prepared false targets at designated positions at night to lure the Vietnamese troops into firing...... This time, the soldiers of the 40th Division on the front line used the method of stacking sandbags, that is, laying a few sandbags on a conspicuous position on the slope facing the old mountain, and then tossing a little new soil on it.
Don't look at this sandbag and the new soil as inconspicuous, these things are a great thing in the stalemate between the two armies on the front line...... The reason is that this is the method used by the enemy and us when compressing each other's positions, first piling up a few sandbags as cover, and then relying on the cover of sandbags to dig a tunnel or cat's ear hole under it.
Although this practice does not have great military significance, a cat's ear hole is just hiding from such a person, and it is dug under the nose of the enemy, and if it really starts, it will soon be knocked out by the enemy's artillery fire.
But this kind of action has a lot of political significance...... Where the cat's ear hole is dug up, it means that our control line is the land that extends here, if you don't care about this and don't care about that, then there is no doubt that its actual control line will gradually be compressed by the other party.
This is also the reason why both the enemy and us insist or have to insist on risking their lives to touch each other's holes at this time, and at the same time, it is also the reason why cat ear piercings are dangerous and difficult to survive, but our soldiers have to hide.
Of course, this time we didn't mean to move the control line forward, our purpose was just to let the Yue devils open fire...... Naturally, the Vietnamese army did not know this, so a volley of shells came at the "target" as soon as it was dark.
In just a few seconds, Chen Weihua shouted at us who were waiting not far from the artillery sighting radar: "Turn around in the third and fifth holes...... Mortar. Three! ”
It should be clarified. This position behind the cannon is represented by a dense position system. The Chinese army uses the 6000 secret position system, and European and American countries generally use the 6400 secret position system, so Chen Weihua and others have done some work on this before this, so that the 6400 secret position system can be converted into the 6000 secret position system very quickly in wartime.
I nodded to the communicator, who had already prepared, and immediately reported the numbers to Wu Dengxiong in the artillery position.
That's why we're next to the sighting radar......
Obviously, if we were not at the artillery radar but at the headquarters, then the numbers reported by Chen Weihua would first have to be transmitted to the headquarters through the guò correspondents, and then from the headquarters to the artillery positions. This will undoubtedly increase the preparation time for artillery fire, that is, it will be detrimental to our timely and accurate hitting of the target. And now there is no doubt that the efficiency has increased.
Then I soon heard an angry roar from the walkie-talkie: "Release! ”
"Woo......" The air soon sounded with the whistling of cannonballs.
Immediately after Wu Dengxiong's several loud roars, two more batches of shells poured up, and soon there was a loud "boom" on the old mountain.
This time, three batches of three guns were fired.
The reason for this is that the test of the artillery sighting radar is not only whether it can quickly detect the enemy's shells and quickly calculate the position of its artillery position, but also has a very important function of correcting our artillery fire to guide it to accurately hit the target.
Having studied artillery, I know very well that this step was also done by artillery observers before...... That is to say, it is not enough for our artillery to know the exact location of the target, and after obtaining these numbers, the artillery calculates and adjusts the elements according to the theory. However, when the shell is in the air, it will inevitably be affected by the wind and air density, which will cause some deviations in the impact point.
At this time. Artillery observers observing from the front line will use their communications equipment to send some corrections to the artillery positions, but these corrections will obviously be interfered with by the enemy's artillery on the front line and some errors in human judgment.
Now it's much more convenient and accurate, because even this step can be done by the gun-aiming radar...... The artillery sighting radar can monitor 20 targets at the same time, so it can naturally monitor the ballistics of your own artillery in the gap between monitoring the Vietnamese artillery.
Of course, when monitoring the ballistics of your artillery, you do not calculate the artillery position backwards, but calculate the explosion point forward, and compare this explosion point with the previously calculated enemy artillery position.
This comparison is ahead of its time, because it is often known whether the shells will hit the target or in which direction they will be off, even while they are still in the sky.
So Chen Weihua immediately reported the corrected numbers to the correspondent, and after the correspondent conveyed these numbers to Wu Dengxiong, he immediately ordered another batch of artillery that had already been loaded and prepared to adjust Zhu Yuan...... All of this was done in just a dozen seconds, which made me feel that these three batches of shells were fired with the same Zhuyuan, but in fact, there were two adjustments in between.
It would have been almost unimaginable that an artillery observer could have made such a precise adjustment in such a short period of time, if it had been adjusted in the past, that is, by an artillery observer...... Because the artillery observer has to wait for the shells to hit the ground, and then have time to determine which shells are their own, and estimate the offset distance, and then report it.
However, all of this would only take a few seconds to process with the gunsight radar, and the accuracy would not even require a third batch of shells...... The third batch of shells fired this time, it is assumed that Wu Dengxiong was worried that the target would be transferred in time, or that the artillerymen were holding back too long, so they simply let the third batch of shells that were ready to fire also be fired.
"Hit!" After a while, Staff Officer Wei, who was in charge of liaising with the 40th Division, raised his head and shouted at us: "News from the front line, in the afterglow of artillery fire, the mortars and artillery corpses of the Vietnamese army have been found damaged!" ”
"Well played!" Immediately, there was a cheer around.
Wu Dengxiong on the other end of the intercom apparently heard the news as well, but they didn't have time to cheer...... According to the procedure, they should immediately move their positions at this time, after all, it is the Yue devils who now occupy the main peak of the old mountain, and their artillery observers at the high place can easily see the smoke when our artillery fires.
Sure enough, after a while, I heard the whistling of shells in the air again......
"Howitzers, three-five-eight, three-gun. 38 Holes 5 ...... Five doors, three or two ......" Chen Weihua quickly shouted, and as soon as he called, there were a series of them, all directions, a total of eighteen doors.
Boy...... Hearing this, I couldn't help but curse in my heart, these more devils are still prepared...... The fact that they were able to counterattack with the howitzers of an artillery battalion in such a short time without an artillery radar is enough that they were ready to open fire from the very beginning.
In other words, the mortars that the Vietnamese army fired at the beginning were just a decoy in a certain way, and there were actually more large-caliber artillery pieces behind these mortars as cover.
At this time, if this battle were to be fought by other artillery units of our army, then we would have to fall into a dilemma.
To fight back or not to fight back?
If you don't fight back, you will have to let a few mortars of the Yue devils be arrogant in front of you.
If you fire back, it is very likely that you will attract more artillery blows from the devils.
Of course, our army can also use the same method to deal with the Vietnamese army, and the result of this is that you will come and go and trigger a large-scale artillery battle.
Such an artillery battle should be said to be mutually advantageous and disadvantageous...... The strength of our army is that there are many more artillery pieces than the Vietnamese army, and the strength of the Vietnamese army is just like the coordinates reported by Chen Weihua.
It should be said that this method is very effective, one is because if the number of artillery is small, then the amount of smoke emitted when firing is not large, which makes it difficult to attract the attention of artillery observers. Another such scattered artillery positions were undoubtedly a test for artillery scouts...... If it was a concentrated artillery position, the artillery scouts only needed to calculate one coordinate, but now the Vietnamese army dispersed it into ten, so it had to quickly calculate ten coordinates. More importantly, the small range of these scattered targets makes it difficult for artillery to hit accurately at one time, and at the same time it is difficult for artillery scouts to make corrections......
This is also the reason why, although the number of Vietnamese artillery is not as large as ours, it has always been able to survive and even poses a considerable threat to our army.
But now the situation is obviously different, because we have artillery sighting radars, artillery sighting radars capable of capturing twenty targets at the same time.
Because it can capture twenty targets at the same time, it can accurately calculate the four positions to which these twenty targets belong this time.
We quickly transferred the coordinates of these four positions to Wu Dengxiong, and the other twenty guns in Wu Dengxiong's hand quickly roared...... The artillery battalion of the composite battalion has 30 howitzers, which was decided when the composite battalion was formed in order to allow the composite battalion to have sufficient artillery support, and at this time I also divided it into three parts, each with ten guns.
The artillery position that fired first was unable to play a role in the active transfer because it was very likely that its position had been exposed, but the other two groups of artillery could confidently launch a strike at the four newly detected Vietnamese artillery positions.
Just like just now, our artillery was still guided by the artillery sighting radar and fired hundreds of shells in the direction of the Vietnamese army.
Of course, these hundreds of shells were not directed at one target, but two artillery positions were each responsible for two artillery positions of the Vietnamese army.
Due to the high speed of the artillery sighting radar, the two artillery positions of our army had complete time to clean up one enemy artillery position and then clean up the other. (To be continued......)
