Chapter 46: The Hilltop Position

Chapter Forty-Six: The Hilltop Position

"Second Platoon Leader!" Company Commander Luo waved his hand at me and shouted, "Up! ”

"Yes!" I answered the call and rushed over the trench with my men with their guns in hand.

This is a battle to grab the position on the top of the 419 Heights, and we have already robbed the Yue devils countless times on the 581 Heights, so we know what to do and how to cooperate.

And we know that...... Because the Vietnamese army was operating outside the range of the AK47, they did not reach the summit position so quickly at this time...... So we had just time to go down Heights 393 and then climb up Heights 419.

I did not rush to take the fighters to seize the hilltop position, because I knew very well...... Although the hilltop position is dangerous, it is also an area blocked by enemy artillery, so it is easy not to pull the soldiers up. Another reason is that there are only a dozen people in the second platoon I lead, while the Yue devil has two platoons of 60 people, so if they rashly occupy the position on the top of the mountain...... It is very likely that the two armies will meet on the hilltop position and develop into hand-to-hand combat.

A dozen people fighting hand-to-hand with sixty or so people? That's almost looking for death......

Then can a dozen of us defeat the sixty or so people of the Yue Devil?

Actually, we are not a dozen, but more than seventy...... All of the second company plus a platoon of machine guns.

In modern warfare, what is important is the cooperation of all units, and there is a strong backing behind us, so why don't we use it?

As for the recruits...... If only they didn't add to the mess and didn't shoot indiscriminately!

So I viciously ordered the retreating recruits: "Stay in the trenches for me, only look at me and don't shoot, do you understand?" ”

The dejected recruits replied sparsely: "Got it! ”

"Do you understand?" I asked again.

"Got it!" Only then did the recruits' voices become neat in their answers. And that included the company commander.

"Good!" I said, "Just watch from the sidelines." See how others are fighting! ”

I said that I would ignore them again. With the fighters, they rushed into the fifty-meter line of the hilltop position and dispersed and hid in the muddy water.

After a while, the devils came up, and their eyes were quickly attracted by the recruits hiding in the trenches, so the "whooshing" was a row of bullets, which made the recruits hurriedly retract their heads.

But we didn't shoot, and neither did the troops under the command of Company Commander Luo behind us, because we knew that there were too few enemies coming up at this time...... At this time, shooting is undoubtedly to startle the snake and give a wake-up call to the follow-up Vietnamese army.

So we continued to wait until the more devils on the hilltop position gathered more and more, and Company Commander Luo gave the order to "fight...... In the next second, bullets from the 393 heights poured down towards the Vietnamese army in pieces.

The more devils thought that the People's Liberation Army was defeated...... They were wrong.

The Yue devils thought that the PLA troops they were facing would not fight...... They're still wrong.

Maybe. This can also be said to be a benefit of Battalion Commander Wang's chaotic command, that is, the Vietnamese army relaxed its vigilance and underestimated the enemy, otherwise, they would not have seen that there was a 393 high ground not far from the opposite side and would rest assured that they would pull the troops to the top of the hill.

But it's no wonder that they would, who would have thought that the PLA troops in front of them would put the troops that can't fight on the main peak, and the troops that can fight on the second peak as a cover task?

Thereupon...... They quickly paid the price for their light enemies.

Although the 419 Heights are higher than the 393 Heights, the height difference is not large, so the 393 Heights can clearly see the Vietnamese troops on the opposite hilltop position, plus our troops are still hiding in the trenches, so it is a situation where the enemy is open and I am dark. On weapons...... Although the Vietnamese army uses the M16 with a long range. But the distance between the two peaks is only more than 100 meters...... This distance will be within reach of both weapons, so the M16 does not have an advantage. In addition to AK47, our army also has mortars and Type 58 twin-mounted anti-aircraft machine guns......

This fight is hilarious. The bullet swept across the 419 Heights, only to hit the rocks, mud and corpses of the hilltop position...... Where is this gun, it's obviously a machine gun! I heard that this bullet has been so harmful that it can cut the target into two with just one shot, so where can this devil stand it, and he was beaten in an instant, and he had no power to fight back, so he could only lie on the top of the hill and dare not move for half a minute.

It is right to lie on the hilltop position and not move...... After all, there is a height difference between the two heights, and the anti-aircraft machine guns are still hiding in the bunker and shooting out through the shooting holes, and the firing angle is limited, so it is difficult to hit those targets who are lying still on their stomachs.

But...... Correct does not mean that it works, because we have long been hiding within the 50-meter line of the hilltop position, so as soon as I gave the order, grenades were thrown one after another at the summit position.

Now those devils lying on the top of the mountain are suffering...... Get up and run, it's full of bullets whistling overhead. Don't run away...... I just watched the grenade smoke nearby and couldn't do anything.

Now it seems that they have only two options, either to be killed by a machine gun or by a grenade......

Obviously, most people still choose to fight to the death, so they get up and back in a low position...... It must have been too late to crawl back, as the grenade exploded for only a few seconds.

But as we can imagine, there were rows of bullets waiting for them, and a horrific picture appeared...... Those Vietnamese soldiers were like tofu cut by a treasure knife, and some were broken into pieces because the cat fled with their waists.

Fortunately, the grenade we threw exploded quickly, and the green smoke and water vapor that burst out just stopped this disgusting scene. It's just that...... Blood and corpse pieces from grenades still fell all over us.

It's nothing to us, and we've all seen it even more terrifying...... But for those recruits, it was unacceptable. Later I heard...... At that time, the vast majority of recruits were following orders to see how we fought......

In fact, it is not so much to see how we fight, but rather that they do not believe that we can defeat those powerful Vietnamese troops with only a dozen people. Since we don't believe that we can defeat the Vietnamese army, it is conceivable that the Vietnamese army will attack them hiding in the trenches next, so they are ready to meet the attack of the Vietnamese army!

It's just that what they didn't expect was ...... What they saw was not the defeat of the Vietnamese army, but the terrible death of the Vietnamese army under the fire of our troops...... Eight out of ten of them were in the trenches and threw up, so that after a long time of fighting, they had not yet recovered.

War is like that, human life is so worthless, a few bullets can beat a living person into mud...... This is what the soldiers really can't adapt to and can't accept, because this is too different from the outlook on life in peacetime.

But it's the recruits, not us.

Recruits have reasons to sigh and vomit, and we only have one concept in our hearts: life or death.

If you don't want to die...... It's just a matter of killing the enemy.

The enemy is not dead, the enemy has not retreated...... So our mission is not done yet.

The next second after the grenade exploded, we jumped from our stealth and rushed to the top of the hill...... I didn't give orders to my soldiers, in fact, they couldn't hear the grenade explosion even if I gave the order. In other words, it all depends on the tacit understanding between each other, or the habit of so many battles.

This tacit understanding was not only between the soldiers of our platoon, but also the soldiers of the 393rd Heights who reacted accordingly as we rushed upward: the mortars stopped bombing, and the submachine guns and machine guns also changed the point of fire from the burst and raised the angle of fire.

Obviously, this series of actions could not be done by the commander's orders, because they happened almost at the same time, and any one step that was only a few seconds slower could cause accidental injury...... For example, when we charge, the mortar will shoot one more shot, or the AK47 with a large bullet scattering area will shoot one more shuttle.

If you have to wait for Company Commander Luo's order...... First, Company Commander Luo couldn't command it, and secondly, he wasn't in a hurry at all.

Therefore, these rely on the tacit understanding and cooperation between the soldiers...... And these tacit understandings and synergies were all earned after we paid our blood and lives again and again in the war.

But as the so-called layman looks at the excitement, I think those recruits may not understand the truth at all, but blindly think that this battle is easy for veterans to fight, and it is also a row of bullets and shells...... The more devils were inexplicably corpses all over the field, and they were beaten down inexplicably......

For those of us who are veterans, we know very well what the next step might be and what to do next.

For example, now, instead of rushing to the top of the hill in one go, we first seized the ridge line, and then threw a volley of grenades on the other side of the ridge line before rushing up.

When we rushed to the top of the hill...... I saw that there were only about 20 people left in the two platoons of Yue devils, and our bullets chased after them again, knocking down more than a dozen ...... Only a dozen Vietnamese soldiers in Zuihou escaped alive.

The reason why these dozen Vietnamese soldiers were able to flee back was not because they escaped from our range...... You must know that the theoretical range of the sniper rifle in my hand is 1,000 meters.

The reason for this was that I knew that the Vietnamese army would cover their retreat with artillery fire, so I withdrew my troops before the Vietnamese army bombarded them with mortars.

As a result, the hilltop position fell into the hands of our troops with ease, and all our casualties were nothing more than a soldier's mortar fragments. (To be continued......)
