Chapter 37: Zheyin Mountain (2)
Three days later, we took a helicopter to Zhiyin Mountain.
The difference from the past is that in the past, we flew to Yunnan by civil aviation, and the troops on the Yunnan side of the helicopter will prepare for us, after all, they are all straight-five changes, so we don't need to be so troublesome to fly around in helicopters.
But now it's different, and now we're using Black Hawk...... There are only 24 of them in the whole country, and they can't prepare the front-line troops for us, so we have to drive to the battlefield in helicopters ourselves.
But we soon found out that it was actually faster and more convenient to fly a helicopter to the battlefield than to take a civil aviation.
The reason is that if you take a civil aviation, you first have to take a car to the airport, and after flying to Yunnan, you have to take a car to the front line, so it will take more than ten hours to say the least, and you can't carry too much equipment with you...... If you want more equipment, you can get it from Yunnan, and some equipment may not be available.
But if you go with the Black Hawk, you won't have to worry about these problems, taking off from the base and heading straight to your destination. Of course, this requires a refueling trip at the transit airport and necessary maintenance...... The straight-line distance from Beijing to Yunnan is more than 2,000 kilometers, which exceeds the maximum range of more than 1,000 kilometers for the Black Hawk.
And we can also carry a lot of equipment with us, including gunsight radar.
This is difficult to do in the past when using the Zhiwu change, on the one hand, because the Zhiwu change has a short flight range and must be refueled several times, on the other hand, it is also because of the high failure rate of the Zhiwu change, it is difficult for us to guarantee that the Zhiwu change will not have problems in such a long continuous flight.
Ten hours later, the helicopter arrived at the forward base (the Black Hawk traveled at 354 kilometers per hour, which theoretically only takes six hours to reach Yunnan, but it was not driven at the top speed on the road, and it took ten hours to refuel and check on the way).
Of course, this base is far from our destination...... There is still a certain distance from Zheyin Mountain.
The reason for this is that we have helicopters in our hands, and a few tens of kilometers in a straight line is only a matter of a few minutes for us, so we don't need to show the secret weapon of the "Black Hawk" in front of the Vietnamese devils so quickly.
However, I don't think the "Black Hawk" thing is a secret weapon for the Vietnamese devils, because they have suffered from it in the previous war between the United States and Vietnam.
It's just that now the "Black Eagle" is in the hands of us Chinese.
"Battalion Commander Yang!" As I stepped off the helicopter, I saw several cadres come up to me and shake my hand.
What surprised me a little was that the cadres in front of me knew at a glance that they were not at the staff officer level.
Sure enough, a veteran cadre at the head introduced himself: "I am Xu Liangfeng, the commander of the 51st Division (false number), and welcome the arrival of the synthetic battalion." β
"Hello Chief!" I couldn't help but salute.
To be honest, this surprised me, on the one hand, because it is not close to the front line, the distance in a straight line is more than 20 kilometers, and it takes seven or eight hours to get here by car, to say the least. On the other hand, it was because in the past it was all staff officers who came to receive me, and the staff officers could cooperate with our synthetic battalion to fight, who would have thought that this time it would be the division commander who came to greet me in person, which made me a little unbearable.
Later, I learned that in fact, the front-line command of the battle of Zheyinshan also attached great importance to it.
They attach importance to several reasons, the most important of which is the fear that the morale of the troops will be affected by disarmament, and there will be unimaginable signs of passivity and sabotage in all aspects, so that sending troops into battle is very likely to lead to a large number of casualties.
As a soldier, I know this firsthand...... On the battlefield, the more passive they are, the greater the casualties, but the kind of people who do not want to die and go out to fight the enemy, and the number of casualties is very small.
Therefore, the front-line command was worried when it received the order to recover Yinshan.
From this point of view, these cadres mentioned above are undoubtedly good cadres who will think about the soldiers.
On the other hand, they are also worried that this can be considered the last battle of their troops...... It is very likely that the annexation will be carried out after this battle, and no one wants to end in a bad battle at this last moment.
In fact...... They still have a hope in their hearts, that is, if this battle is fought well, then the superiors will cut fewer soldiers because of their appearance.
When I knew this, I felt a burst of sourness in my heart for no reason: this is the soldier of this era, and the opportunity to stay in the army and endure hardships is exchanged for bloodshed and sacrifice, which makes people feel bad in their hearts.
Several people quickly walked into our office.
"This is Staff Officer Yang of the infantry unit and the company staff officer of the artillery unit!" Division Commander Xu introduced to me: "They will cooperate with the actions of your synthetic battalion in this battle. β
When I heard this, I felt that something was a little different, in the past, only one staff officer was dispatched, but now one was sent to each of the infantry and artillery, and they also carried two sets of communication equipment and communication troops, which fully showed that they attached great importance to Cheng DΓΉ.
I'm a little surprised to see this, didn't it mean that the morale of the fighters on the front line was affected because of disarmament? How does it look like a different story now? (To be continued......)
